There is no door to the kitchen which allows an incredible amount of light into the room in the morning.

The new owner, who was also the one who attended us at the reception, is not a pleasant person, not very decisive and has a very bad attitude. I had just finished checking in and giving my credit card for a security deposit, when the owner told me that the water coming out of the pipes is not good, that it comes out brown and that I can shower without any problem but that I should not brush my teeth with that water. He had friends and family staying at other hotels in the area and they did not have this same problem. When I asked him why this was happening at his hotel, he told me that it was not only in his hotel but that the whole peninsula has the same problem of brown non-potable water coming out of the sink and shower in the room. When I complained about this, he told me that my reservation was made when the other owner was there and that now this was not his problem, that I was just a transferred reservation. In fact, after checking with other hotels and restaurants in the area, they told me that the owner is lying and that the only establishment on the peninsula that has this problem is “The Fox and the Hounds.”

Nice place to stay although new owners still sorting a few issues. Were very helpful with booking issues though

The Fox and Hounds looked and sounded impressive but our stay was disappointing. The spare blanket had not been cleaned and folded, insects on the benches, dirt behind the door, non potable water so there was bottled water (water and milk were both frozen solid) and the shower water was brown. Another room was offered but we declined as we had already unpacked and were tired from traveling all day. For what we paid the room was not up to standard. I could just imagine what overseas tourists think.

There was no potable water. The water that was there stank. Bottled water for drinking and teeth cleaning was provided. Ick.

The food onsite was delightful and we were found it so convenient after a hectic day. The lady that checked us in was wonderful and helpful.

Lovely old tudor style English Inn. Beautiful surroundings, lovely rooms. Friendly staff. Would be great if they supplied breakfast.. even toast and tea.
(To keep in with the old english theme) Great that they supplied water, as tap water was not suitable for drinking.
Even tho most people had cars...a shuttle bus down to the Historic site would have been fabulous....even @ $5 pp. Meals are quite expensive but so are other places in Tasmania.

Friendly and comfortable. The water is not drinkable and is brown. Bottled water is provided for free for drinking and brushing teeth, however, we did not want to have a shower in the brown water. Otherwise, lovely views and restaurant, and friendly staff.

Great place, close to the historic site. We we upgraded when we checked in. A nice gesture without us even asking. They also were very accommodating when we realised we booked the wrong checkin date. Great PR and customer service.

Loved the look/presentation of the hotel on a whole. Staff were great. Check-in/out was a breeze. Room was clean and well presented. Service at the bar/dining area was great.
The meals we had were excellent (I would come back just for the Guinness pie). Had meals on both nights of our stay, trying different foods for each. All we tried were beautifully presented, cooked fresh and very tasty.

The room was neat and tidy, with an excellent view, but it could do with an upgrade. The addition of a table in the living area would have been very handy, along with more places to hang your towel (there was only one towel hook in the bathroom). The location is really handy for Port Arthur, and the staff were friendly. The food at the restaurant was also really good and affordable.

Perfect place for an overnight stay while visiting the Port Arthur heritage site.
Staff were friendly on check in and again when we dined at the restaurant for dinner. Food was great too.
Rooms are a little older but clean and comfortable.

Friendly helpful staff and very trad menu in keeping with the style of the property. A bit surprised about the need for bottled water but I get it, given the Tasman peninsula’s unique location.
