An old property located just on the shoreline at the most central place possible. Both staff members i came across were exceptionally nice and accommodating.

Room was unfortunately grubby upon arrival, room was dusty, the bedding had clearly been used (hairs and stains on the bedding). This was brought to the attention of the landlord who didnt apologise but did offer to change the bedding when we went out. When we returned the bedding had not been changed, but a bag with fresher sheets had been placed outside the door.
Another thing to note was that the milks supplied with the tea and coffee were mostly >1 month expired.
The bed was thankfully comfortable, but overall the lack of cleanliness was concerning, especially at £70 for one night.

On booking I opted for paying at Railway Inn, but on arrival I was advised that payment had to be in cash not card, even though the Railway Inn took card payments in the bar. I asked for a receipt, which wasn’t available straight away, but rec’d the night before departure

We visited The Railway Inn to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary and found the room we stayed in had been refurbished and very clean.
The shared shower and 2 WCs was not a problem.
Tracy and Gary made us feel very welcome and despite the pub being closed (covid) it looked very inviting and cant wait to August as we have booked 4 days for my 66th birthday celebration.

We knew and expected cheap and cheerful but this had no cheer. Room very basic but clean was a no (left over clothes from previous occupier) and for shared toilet/bathroom this was disgusting. We couldn't wait to leave so we could find somewhere clean. Again this may have been cheep for dawlish however for the price we paid the night before and the night after for rooms I can only rate this is bad.

The hotel was average , the hosts were very helpful and went out of there way to help us however the place could do with a bit of TLC . It served a purpose and was relativly cheap compared to other accomadation in the area and i would stay there again .

We booked this stay late, only the day before. We know Dawlish very well, yet it took a while to find as its up a dead end street with no car access. My husband stayed in the car while I went into the Inn. The lady was very helpful and apologetic, but there was no parking. She said the people running the Bar were not the owners and had nothing to do with the accommodation side. We were shown to our room. I know this is a old Building but it was in very bad condition, the window wouldn't open and the room was very hot and stuffy. The carpet was awful, bed very old and uncomfortable with very old faded bedding. There was no TV, the wall paper was bubbling and dirty. The communal shower is old, dirty and covered in cobwebs. the communal toilets are very small, cramped, dirty and the flushes are useless. It is very noisy up stairs. the communal lighting is bad. We stayed for 3 nights and I dreaded each one of them.
The bar on the other hand was ran by very nice helpful people who chatted to us every night. The Owners of this place DO NOT Advertise this property accurately.

No lock on the communal toilet door.
TV kept going silent, only way to correct it was to turn it off and on again.

Unfortunately on 10 July the previous owners had departed this hotel leaving a big mess for the new owners Sue and Callum to try and rectify.
Upon arrival at the Railway Inn at 21:00 we were greeted with this bad news by the new owners who were very apologetic and had arrived to take over the establishment only three hours previously and they had no knowledge I had reserved 2 of the 3 rooms at this very small but historic pub.
Unfortunately on contacting Hotels.com I spoke to 4 different people and after 50 mins the call dropped out with NO return call or email by them even though the Hotels.com team had my number and email address from my original reservations.
Most upset at the customer service offered as I'm a long term member over many years and have booked 2 weeks of hotel rooms for my holiday.

Several things were wrong really. When I arrived the lock to my room was broken & didn’t lock at all. I had to go down stairs to the pub & ask them to fix the lock to my door. They asked a couple of regular customers there to try & fix it, with no success. Later on they called for a locksmith to fix it.
The sink in my room was inadequate. Only one tap work & the bed I slept in was lop-sided. Also the toilet didn’t flush properly.
As I stayed for quite a long time, the stay was quite uncomfortable. Also the room wasn’t properly ventilated. When I arrived back there during the evening, after my course, the room was like an oven.
Also they played extremely ,loud music which seeped through the floorboards & effected my sleep.
I liked the town of Dawlish, the people were friendly, but I shall definitely not be staying at this “hotel” again.
