Stayed 2 nights to break up my long trip. I arrived at the hotel from the airport via Uber but looks like it's easily reachable by public transit - if you don't mind longer commute and don't have lot of luggage. I did take the tram to the beautiful Amtrak train station after checkout and was super convenient.
The receptionist was super friendly and even found a room ready for me before check in time. I got a corner room so could see the cathedral outside, tram line, and the capital building in the near distance.
Being a historic building, it was beautifully preserved. The bathroom was modern. The room itself could use bit more storage/shelf space. The chair in front of the desk was too short and not-adjustable so had to use pillow.
The digital tipping was great since it's always struggle to remember to get change or cash.
Breakfast was a bit better than the standard moderate-budget hotel chain style. Included in the room rate so was a good value.
Wish there was a more eco-friendly practices - plates/cups/cutlery are all disposable - but after being out of the country for 8 months, remembering how U.S. lodgings are not up to the part on sustainability as other parts of the world. And most don't have kettle.
All in all, it's one of the best experiences for lodging in U.S.

I stumbled upon Hotel Celeste a couple years ago and loved it so much that it is my "go to" when I am in St. Paul. I look forward to the combination of quiet and elegance that Celeste offers. I especially enjoy the breakfast area. It is a lovely way to start the day.

Hidden gem! Quick walk to Xcel center for last minute concert. Love the character of the building. Everything seemed clean- ice bucket had water in it so that hadn't been checked. Would stay again.

We live in Saint Paul, and I needed a getaway. After checking the airfare, the idea of a trip within our own city seemed possible. Something unique was needed. Celest was the answer. It is a wonderful property with an amazing history. The bar is intimate but watch out for Kevin. I highly recommend it for the pleasure or business traveler.

What ever they pump into their vents stinks to high heaven! We had to open the window and put the heat up which didn’t reach the bathroom, making getting out of the shower a ver unpleasant experience

Charming hotel with interesting furnishings and friendly staff. Our room, with a king bed, had only one chair which we found inconvenient. The location is handy for good dining options.

We stayed for a concert at Palace Theater. Great walking distance and close parking. Checking in was a breeze! Greeted us right away and explain about additional charges and refund when we leave. Explained where our room was and explained breakfast. Beautiful and clean hotel! Lock the doors at night to keep everyone safe. Cant wait to stay again!

Stayed with a couple friends for a concert, and man, we were pleasantly surprised. This converted convent to an amazing hotel is a chance I'm glad I took. Incredible woodworking inside, some acquired original paintings, stained glass windows, sky high ceilings, and full of character. Celeste is not your cookie cutter, run of the mill place to stay. Todd let us check in early, gave us a tour of a few normal off limits areas and a peek at the unoccupied Honeymoon Suite. It was beautiful! The hotel was only about an 8 minute walk to the Excel Center where our concert was. Breakfast was great; eggs, sausage, sausage links, coffee cake, a coffee bar, and a lot of other selections and it was in the old chapel room! There's a sweet little bar for an evening cocktail. The staff is wonderful and welcoming, gave us tips where to park, as the hotel doesn't have a dedicated lot (a block away, $10 for 24 hours), and within walking distance of great places to eat (Cosetta's, Zamboni's, Wild Bill's, Patrick's, etc). It was quiet, had comfortable beds, and a spacious bathroom. Take a chance on this place! It's 100% worth it.

Easy walk to the Xcel Energy Center and dinner before. Lots of shops and attractions around the area, and a parking garage right next door.

Positives: This a beautiful building with great architecture inside and out. First impression of our room was very positive and the breakfast provided was quite good.
Negatives: Our room was directly above the lounge and the music and crowd noise penetrated the flooring and kept us until well after midnight, despite the posted closing time of 11pm. We were also able to clearly listen in on the good times of the guests staying directly above us. Consequently we were not able to get a restful sleep. Parking is not included - the hotel does not validate, so parking can get very expensive if you are entering and exiting the parking ramp multiple times during your stay.

Amazing building and location

First room had pigeon feathers and poop that had come through the window onto the carpeted floor. Changed to another room in that room still had trash from the previous guest in it. The issue getting a clean room really overshadowed the stay, which was a convenient location and a unique space with some fun flare.

We arrived late in the evening, the parking was easy to find and pretty much attached to the building, at about a $17 rate per day, which I find to be reasonable. We had never stayed here before, but we chose this property because we like to find non-chain/historical/unique properties when we travel, and the couple photos I saw made this property look beautiful, and we were not disappointed upon our arrival. I was happy to notice that the building is locked, and you can only gain entry with a key or get buzzed in. The lady that greeted us was very friendly, knowledgeable and efficient. We had no idea about the historical nature of the property, and were a little surprised by the decor and nun portraits throughout the hotel, but after a quick google search, it made more sense. We did not spend a lot of time at the property, but the building is beautiful. I have a high standard of cleanliness, and this was by far the cleanest hotel I have ever stayed at! Rooms are simple, comfortable, and historically well preserved. Not a super quiet neighborhood, typical city noise. We did notice quite a few people roaming the streets who appeared to be homeless and displaying behaviors consistent with substance abuse, however we never felt unsafe, and who doesnt like a little people watching? I would have loved to see some reading material somewhere about the history of the convent that it used to be, as i find that interesting. Beautiful, CLEAN, comfortable property and friendly staff. :)

This was another great stay at the Celeste. We have stayed there quite a few times - it’s our “go-to” in St. Paul and a perfect balance between a lovely ans quiet hotel and easy location to get around. Downtown St. paul is a bi sleepy and if you’re looking for great nightlife or lots of walking to plentiful shopping, this is not the locale. The Fitzgerald Theater and the Xcel Center are close as is Landmark Center and the Ordway. West 7th Street and the Farmers Market are close. While safe, the neighborhood is not vibrant. The hotel again was clean, comfortable, and wonderful. The breakfast is generous and the decor strikes a wonderful balance between stylish and a tiny bit of irreverence to the history of the convent that formerly occupied the property. Beds are super comfy, linens are soft and fresh and the bath products are A . The Celeste has survived and thrived and we will stay here again and again because of the friendly staff, the spacious and relaxing property, and the easy location to what we need to do. Thanks for restoring our faith in non-chain, service-oriented properties.
