Due to reports about the elevator, I called the hotel directly before booking to confirm it was working again. While driving there, the hotel called around check in time to inform me that the elevator would not be working for the weekend. They did not offer a way out of the reservation and I had no way to make alternate plans. It would have been appropriate for the hotel to offer something like free parking (you have to pay to be in the lot) or a breakfast for the inconvenience, but they didn't. This is the primary reason for my rating. Otherwise, it was clean and the downtown was within an easy walk. We ate at the hotel's restaurant for breakfast - the service and food was meh. For the price, I would look elsewhere next time.

The room was very comfortable and clean, fairly recently updated. I thought it was quite nice. The elevator was broken so we had to haul our bags up to the third floor and hike back and forth. That part was not fun. The shampoo container on the wall in the shower was empty. It's an older hotel, not fancy, but decent. We had breakfast in their restaurant and it was good, not great. The avocado toast was a total rip-off. Overall, I thought it was a decent place to stay.

Nice to see the Capital Plaza back after the flood! It is my home away from home. My family lives here and I have Ben coming here for at least 20 years! Love it.

The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The hotel is very clean and beautiful. We did have a bathroom door that didn’t shut and no shower gel. Other than that, we loved it.

Apparently the property is under renovation and there are NO elevators and my room is on the 4th floor. How come I didn't know this before I booked?

One person at check-in that was busy on the phone for over 15 minutes before attending the line. Could only get me a room on the fourth floor with the elevator out of service.

Very friendly staff, very apologetic for the elevators not working or the restaurant still closed. They reopened the day of the total eclipse, about 9 months after the catastrophic flooding of Montpelier's downtown area. They did a fantastic job making, what they called "soft opening" happen just in time for the big event.

This property could use some upgrades. Some very strange smells (not good ones) throughout the hallways. HVAC systems (in room units) need replaced. Carpet is tired and dated. Staff did the best they could but hard to overcome.Beds were comfortable and great location!

Very nice hotel, very friendly staff and the room was nice. Only downside was that the hallways were stuffy and not air conditioned (outside temperature was very hot duty our stay). Great location , easy walk to a super bakery and neat stores plus great dining both within hotel and within 3 minute walk

Great stay. TV was a real problem. Hard to find channels, etc. Just a clunky system. Maybe some instruction would help. Food was excellent.

The staff, especially the concierge, are super friendly. She gave us a quiet room as we requested. The place is close to restaurants, a cinema, museums, public transportation, etc. Unfortunately, many places/restaurants around it were closed due to holidays. The room was nice and quiet. However, the bed wasn't as comfortable/soft as expected. Overall, it's better than expected, though. Highly recommend it.

Great location with friendly staff and a great steakhouse. The kind of quaint accommodations you look for in Vermont. Desk staff was beyond kind. She gave history of town and local recommendations.
