Char is super friendly. The location of the hostel is great, since it is super close to some restaurants and Cafés. The room and the bathroom was very clean. I felt very comfortable there! It also had a lil living room, where you could get in contact with the other guests. Would definitely recommend!!

Char was very communicative leading up to the stay! It's pretty cute and pretty comfortable. If you're on Port Alberni for some reason, would recommend staying here

Nice hostel with all the amenities, short walk from restaurants, short drive from shops. It's dated but does the job!

Char was friendly.
Place was run-down and dirty. Just a few dingy rooms under an old church hall.
The carpet in the bathroom was a low-point.

First time we've stayed in a hostel, and it was as positive as friends told us it would be. We thought hostels were for young people, and we're senior seniors. We met new friends from different countries and had interesting and informative conversations about their experiences in their part of the world. Char has done a wonderful job creating this hostel, which is a welcome benefit to travelers. It of course is not as 'luxurious' as an expensive hotel, but it was comfortable and was all we needed. Every unit has its own private bathroom, and the hostel has a full kitchen and a common area (TV etc). Free internet is very useful in making future travel arrangements. Thank you, Char.
Not a complaint but expect to be cozy in bed with your partner.

I loved the Jazz night on Sunday upstairs, an eclectic place. We missed the poetry night on Wednesday.
We were able to prepare meals or snacks when needed and it was great to have some items provided like some ice cubes from the freezer and other occasional items like bread and jam when we ran out of these items.
We enjoyed briefly talking to other travellers but mostly we had the common space use to ourselves. Thanks Char and Karl.
No complaints. Would have loved two beds instead of bunk beds but we knew we were getting bunkbeds when we booked and the Hostel has to maximize the number of beds for families. Perfect for when we bring our grand daughters.

I was leary at first, booking a hostel with 2 children and my 70 year old mom but we needed a pet friendly accommodation and after reading the reviews I decided to give it a shot. And well, what a nice surprise. We stayed in bedroom #3 with 2 bunk beds and a privatebathroom.. It was accessible for my mom and the kids loved sleeping on the bunk beds. The kitchen was right there and though we had neighbors in other rooms we didn't even know it. We crossed paths once and everyone was friendly; especially toward our 7 month old lab. It was clean, quiet and comfortable. We ran into Char twice and saw was lovely, busily typing and cleaning. It was warm however given there is no a/c, but there are fans and its on the bottom floor so it was cooler overnight. We'll definitely be back! Thank you :)
Air conditioning would have been be a bonus but not the be all end all!

I booked last-minute and late at night, and was welcomed - remotely - by Char. Super friendly and courteous. Just what I needed to settle in easily and comfortably. I had a four-bed dorm room to myself.
The instant coffee.

An interesting set up. A converted church, with the hostel in the basement and a music hall upstairs in the church. Pet-friendly was a big plus.
The music upstairs came through quite loudly through to the rooms (But it was good music and ended around 10).

My room was extremely comfortable, also because, despite being a quadruple, I was there on my own. Having also a private bathroom was a great plus. The common areas were very nice, they remembered grandparents' house.
The only flip side is that there was a faint unpleasant smell, but you notice it just when you enter the room and quickly get used to it.

Very convenient and great service.
