DALYAN
Dalyan is exquisitely nestled between the pine-clad mountains, fertile lowlands, lagoons, river and shallow, turquoise sea. It is the nearest town to one of the most beautiful beaches in the World. In 2008, Iztuzu Beach won “The most beautiful open space in Europe” by The Times. Due to the conservational plight to protect the beach (where the endangered Giant Loggerhead sea turtles lay their eggs), this natural paradise has been saved from overdevelopment.
The 3-mile beach, with its fine soft sand, is part of a Special Environmental Protection Area and was the first area of land in Turkey to gain this status. Prince Phillip (as president of the World Wildlife Fund) made a request to the Turkish Prime Minister to halt the building of a hotel complex at the beach following advice from keen environmentalists (including David Bellamy and June Haimoff). The nature reserve was granted protection not only for the turtles and natural beauty of the beach, but also because of the archaeological and geological importance of this 461km2.
The Giant Loggerhead turtles (Caretta Caretta) have laid their eggs on this beach for 90 million years (the turtles always return to lay their eggs on the beach where they were born). Between the 1st May and 1st October the female turtles come up onto the sand during the night time and lay their eggs in clusters of about 100. After nearly 60 days the baby turtles hatch and crawl by moonlight down to the sea. Each year between 40,000 to 50,000 eggs are laid. The beach during these months is closed between 8pm and 8am.
The blue-green Dalyan River (also known as the Calbis River) runs from Koycegiz Lake down to the sea and is also home to the Nile Turtle, which is also a protected species. Life in Dalyan revolves around the river, creating a sense of tranquillity that spreads throughout the town. Dalyan feels like the perfect location to rejuvenate and unwind. When relaxing at one of the many bars or restaurants on the riverbank you can see the occasional turtle come up for air - a splash of water louder than the rustle of the reeds or the background humming of the boats.
Koycegiz freshwater lake, north of Dalyan is fed from the Namnam River and the Yuvarlakcay River (possibly an otter habitat). It is one of only seven coastal lakes in the world where the sea and lake water interconnects. The lake is 20-30 metres deep. South of the lake, at Sultaniye, (named after the sultans who came for health benefits) are many natural sulphurous hot springs (usually 40’C) which are rich in minerals, such as calcium, nitrates, sulphur, iron and potassium. There are also natural mud baths here and at Riza Cavus, further down the river. The mud baths were originally Roman baths and were then changed to the architectural style of the Ottomans and were used to cure a variety of ailments. They used to say that nobody that lived here could ever die and that is the meaning of the word Ölemez, the name of one of the local mountains.
There are peloid mud baths in Dalyan town itself. The Ministry of Health have certified it as natural mud. It is considered good for muscular and skeletal disorders, gynaecological problems, psoriasis, acne and skin disorders. As the mud dries it detoxifies the skin and the natural minerals revitalize. It nourishes the skin by binding fluid in the skin layers. “Regular use of peloids cause wrinkles to disappear and prevents new wrinkles from appearing”! (Wikipedia).
Gray mullet, sea bass, sea bream and perch breed in the lake and a series of complicated weirs have been built to catch the fish between Dalyan and the sea. Dalyan actually means “fishery”. Fish caught on the river have a unique taste because of the mixture of fresh and saltwater. Apart from fishing, Dalyan produces honey, olives, lemons, oranges, cotton and pomegranates. Pomegranate juice is very tasty! Candir, a small village further downriver to the sea, is the region’s main certified organic farming area.
Surrounding the weirs and the river is a reed delta, a labyrinth of bulrushes, an ideal place for bird spotting. Over 150 different types of birds have been seen, including eagles, sparrow hawk, rock nuthatch, common kestrel, European roller, pelicans, crane, cormorant, great egret, little egret, blue rock thrush, jay and kingfishers.
On the opposite side of the river to Dalyan, lies the ancient city of Kaunos. It was inhabited first by the Persians, then the Greeks and then the Romans. It dates back to approximately 1,000BC. There is an Acropolis on the hilltop, from which there are dazzling panoramic views. There is a theatre, which seated 5,000 people (Dalyan today has only 4,000 residents), Roman baths (which at the time were the largest in all Asia Minor), a port, temples and city walls to admire. Kaunos was an important port in antiquity and was strategically placed for both trade and defence. Recently, salt mines (48 salt platforms) have been discovered, so Kaunos in ancient times would have been famous for its salt production.
On the cliffs of the river outside Kaunos are the rock tombs (dated 400-200BC). The tombs have been carved into the rock in the style of Ionian temples. The skill of the ancient workforce is considered a wonder by modern archaeologists who are still mystified as to exactly how these tombs were built. It is thought that the tombs were built high up on the cliff face because the higher you were buried, the closer your soul would be to God.

Just had a fantastic stay at Villa Bliss. The villa is in a fab location, short walk to the river, shops and restaraunts. It is a spacious and well maintained property for our group of 6 adults. Lovely balcony overlooking the large pool that was spotlessly clean. The patio area, barbecue and sun loungers were definitely a sun trap. Will be returning next year. Highly recommend!

Spotlessly clean villa with plenty of space. In a perfect location within easy access of shops, restaurants etc. The only negative point was issues with clients staying in the opposite villa who use the same pool area. This was due to lack of respect to others in the complex and inviting others, not staying on the complex to use the space. I thank Clare, Paul and all at Dalyan Select for doing their very best to sort the situation.
Communication with all was brilliant, always with prompt response to any queries that we had.
The local beach accessed by boat or bus was lovely, offering a snack bar at both ends of the beach. Reasonable charges for sunbeds.
The turtle hospital is worth a visit, accessed on the beach by catching the bus. No charges to enter, they just ask for donations if possible.
There are lots of bars and restaurants down in Dalyan, all offering amazing food and drinks.
Trips can be booked through Dalyan Select. Eko was amazing as a guide. Down to earth and joined in on the trips with activities.
All in all, thoroughly enjoyed our trip to Turkey and look forward to visiting again in the future.

The Villa was adequate for our needs, although not as big as photos indicated. Better suited to a couple and children rather than 4 adults. The management company were very helpful with issues that we had and resolved quickly. The area felt residential and was a short walk into the town centre. Overall a pleasant stay

A great house to rent in Dalyan. Very spacious and clean and a lovely garden/pool area to relax in.. the best villa on the plot. We stayed in august and almost had the pool to ourselves. Villa Bliss is very close to town and convenient for shops etc. We found the owners very easy to communicate with and they provided us with very helpful information. A lovely holiday. Overall great but a few little niggles.
We were on a late flight from Gatwick which was further delayed by an hour so arrived at Dalaman in the dark. We had a hire car . First problem we missed the sign for the left turn to Dalayan there was no mention of this turning in the instructions. On arrival at Villa Bliss we were disappointed at the almost total lack of any provisions, not even a bottle of water. So at 11:00 pm we had to shop for basic essentials. Not the greatest start to a holiday. After a good nights sleep in comfortable beds we awoke to bright sunshine and the grandchildren were soon enjoying the pool. Exploring the villa we found there was a pump to inflate your li-lo's etc but no washing up liquid or dish cloths. There is a dishwasher which we didn't use. The upstairs balcony was great to sit out on in the mornings although it is looking tired and in need TLC. We could not get wi-fi as the log in code had been changed. This was corrected once we contacted Claire.
Now for the positives, Great location, great pool, good air-con and comfortable beds. Despite some negatives I would recommend Villa Bliss for a group of friends or family. Claire always responded promptly to our queries and this was appreciated.

Superb villa
We visited Villa Bliss for one week and had a great time.
Close to the airport with easy transport links with the transfer only taking 30 minutes. The villa is in a great location in general with the town centre and river only a 5 minute walk straight down the road. Also lots of amenities close by like supermarkets, which was really useful.
The villa had three good sized bedrooms with lots of wardrobe space and comfy beds. The spacious open plan living area downstairs had a big dinner table and nice kitchen for when we ate at the villa. There was also a large TV with games and a fire stick – we didn’t use these much but it was nice to have them there if we wanted. The free wifi was always reliable and good for keeping in touch back at home.
Lots of towels/beach towels/bed linen to use if we needed them, and the villa also had washing facilities. There was air conditioning in every room however the villa remained fairly cool so we didn’t need to use it much. Couldn’t fault the cleanliness as the place was spotless when we arrived. Outdoors was also lovely with lots of plants, and we even found some fresh grapes growing.
Upstairs there was a beautiful balcony which overlooked the pool and mountains with plenty of seating. The pool was a good size which was welcome in the hot weather, also well maintained as we saw the pool maintainer came regularly. The villa also had lots of equipment to use such as loungers and inflatables.
The owners had provided a useful thorough guide with essential details like wifi password, how to use the air conditioning, and various other instructions. However it also contained personal recommendations and lists of things to do, which was particularly helpful as this was our first time in Dalyan.
Dalyan itself was beautiful with lots to do, in particular boat trips for example to the beach or to the lake. We also went on a jeep safari for something more adventurous, so there is something for everyone at a reasonable price whilst being close to the villa. We would recommend staying here for both families and couples, and Dalyan caters for both.

Charming villa
Villa bliss is a charming residence , ideal for a family. It is spacious , tastefully decorated with all modern facilities ,including large t.v. screen, WiFi . There is a beautiful patio area with a built in barbeque which we particularly enjoyed. The swimming pool is private and well maintained. We were particularly enamoured with the first floor balcony which overlooks the beautiful mountains and watching the sun set in the evening.
This is our first visit to turkey and we found Dalyan beautiful with a charming river running through the town.
We planned to hire a car but the villa is 2 minutes from town centre and facilities so flung we did not need one.
Not only have I booked a stay next year but have no hesitation in recommending this accommodation to anyone

Amazing villa
We stayed in this amazing villa with family and it was perfectly equipped for everybody. The villa is in a great location very close to the centre of Dalyan, in a beautiful, peaceful location, whilst only a short walk to the beautiful river, with its endless bars and restaurants, you definitely do not need a car. It is superbly fitted throughout, air conditioning in every room, very comfortable beds, lovely furniture, individual art work, TV and video games, exactly as described. The water in the pool was the cleanest and clearest in Dalyan and it was a joyful place to relax and sunbath, we could happily stay there all day. The villa looks as good if not better than the photos and the owners were efficient and friendly throughout. We had a truly wonderful stay at Villa Bliss and would highly recommend, we are looking at booking again next year.

Beautiful villa
Me and my family of 4adults and two children aged nearly four and 14 month have just had a beautiful two weeks here. The children loved the pool. Our oldest grandchild called it holiday home with pool in garden. The villa is close to all amenities. The villa has all you need for a comfortable time. We will be back.

Perfect
This was our third visit to Dalyan and first to Villa Bliss. The villa was truly outstanding in every way. It was beautifully decorated and maintained to the highest standards. The kitchen was extremely well equipped and we stayed in and cooked for one evening and used the fabulous barbecue area several times... We would have cooked more if it wasn't for the amount of lovely riverside restaurants close by. The water cooler was constantly used and it was great not having to keep buying and carrying bottles of water. The bedrooms were spacious and access to the balcony was a joy!. The pool area was amazing, where we spent most of our time, and we had the pool to ourselves for most of our stay as the other 2 villas seemed to be owner-occupied. Perfect, peaceful location and close to the centre of Dalyan. We really loved staying at Villa bliss and can't wait to book again next year.
