Party atmosphere if you like that
No heating in room 206. There was a plug in but timed out every 5 mins from overheating. My key was just left in the office pinned to wall, anyone could have taken it. Place was dirty. No hob like in the pictures. Mattress was soo uncomfortable. Wish I'd slept in the car at Willy Springs instead

Amazing location
Bed very hard

The common space was good but the kitchen didn't have a stove, only fridges and microwaves
The beds were HORRIBLE. Pro: I had the all-female dorm so ended up having the room to myself which was great. However, the bed was the worst bed I've ever slept on. Literally could not sleep because of it. If I stay here again, i'll be bringing an inflatable sleeping pad that you use for camping. This was a suggestion by one of the other guests that frequented the property a lot.

Location only.
The accommodations were cramped and odorous, with an overwhelming smell of footwear.
The noise level was excessive and disruptive.
The beds were uncomfortable, with the wooden bed frames creaking and groaning with every movement. The mattresses were too small, making it difficult to get a good night's sleep.
The shower on the second floor was cramped and uncomfortable to use.
I have traveled extensively and stayed in many hostels around the world, but none felt as cheaply made and poorly maintained as this one.

There were mice droppings all over the shared bath. And our room/ droppings on our bed and bath towels.
The people before us had mice in our same room. We switched rooms & staff was very helpful and nice, but believe they filled the room again after us, although the owner was aware of the issue.

The Modern Hostel offers a great value for its proximity to the village and bus stops. The shared spaces and bunks are very clean.
The mattresses are harder than a granite rock in the Himalayas. I will definitely be bringing a mattress pad next time I go.

Great location, right next to a busy area of mammoth lakes, and great value for money.
The mattress was horrible. You would expect a decent mattress to be the bare minimum of a bed concept, but unfortunately, this mattress was too thin so my sleep quality was horrible, it was uncomfortable the whole night.

I love the hostel overall. You can really make yourself at home.
The mattresses were not that comfortable.

Location
I think it's time modern hostel updates some amenities. The beds are rock hard and the bathrooms need work. Also it's kind of lame how little utensils and dishware there is. Seems like it's stuff left behind also
7.0
Comfortable bedroom. Did need to use portable heater.
Although everyone was courteous, too many people sharing one bathroom. Possibly 8 people? Woman at front desk was nasty about my question on internet service, tidiness of the bathroom and the need for extra toilet paper.
6.0
Nice kitchen, location
Run down bathrooms, loud guests, bare minimal bunk beds.
7.0
It's a hostel, kept pretty clean, reasonably roomy rather than cramming too many people into tiny rooms. Price and location are the definite selling points, and things seem pretty well run with a dialed in check in process and helpful signage to keep things from getting too unruly.
Mattresses are pretty thin and well-used, bathroom layout is a bit funky, a better way to make coffee would be nice.

good location and the other travelers were nice.
garbage needed to be taken out. no handsoap in the bathroom. the place smelled bad. beds were uncomfortable. not much space for belongings in the room. only one bathroom for lots of people.
7.0
affordable, convenient
staff. rude. had big vehicle in front of the entrance to remove snow from roof but people carrying heavy luggage and equipment had hard time getting in
10.0
Cheap and close to the resort
Not the cleanest place, but what can we expect from a hostel

Great location, well stocked kitchen, friendly staff, fair price. Always fun to stay here and meet new people.
Beds are pretty uncomfortable, could use nicer mattresses.
7.0
Very affordable and economic. Get to mingle and socialize with different people.
Bed mattress seemed very old, stiff and uncomfortable. Shared bathroom has 2 toilets and 2 showers for more than 10-15 people and not very private.
5.0
The location is well placed, walkable to many areas. Good parking. Solid hot water.
I have stayed in many hostels and this is perhaps one of the most disappointing. The beds are very old and rickety; I was worried I would break it every time I crawled into the top bunk. The mattresses are absolutely paper thin and indented from use. The sink in the lower bathroom was clogged and full before we arrived and it was not repaired during our three-day stay despite multiple guests saying they had reported it (and presumably house keeping seeing it). This sink serves 10 people on the ground floor. There was mold on the ceiling of the upstairs men's bathroom. The cutlery was highly limited. Luckily, we had brought our own silverware and loaned it out to other guests. There was one spoon and a couple forks available. There was not someone in the office when we arrived during the hours the office was listed as open, though they did return our calls. However, they said the system wasn't working from their cell. It's odd this facility, which is also a hotel, doesn't have staff available. Though we booked two people on the same reservation, they consistently placed us on different bunks, splitting up other parties, as well. I'm not sure why parties wouldn't be assigned to the same bunk. They were not accommodating in switching the bunks. Overall, this is the best priced option in Mammoth, but it's one of the most disappointing hostel stays I've had.

Easy check in and very clean cozy place. My private room was on the far end of the hall and had lots of hooks which was handy to hang up my stuff after snowboarding all day.
The doors have signs on them to shut them quietly and man is that necessary, the walls are pretty thin and those things are easy to slam. Bring your ear plugs for dudes waking up too early to catch powder.
