Minutes to the beach, lots of places to walk to, kayaking hiking on South Beach to the most secluded beach ever. This was our first visit to Herron Island and we'll be back. Maple Grove retreat had everything we needed, from two kayaks to outdoor yard games, to CDs, and comfortable beds. Really appreciated the communication about the property in advance and we're grateful to the owners for sharing this special place!

We love coming back to this place for relaxation during the summer.
The hammocks are great for relaxing in the shade and reading a book after a trip in the provided kayaks.
The house has been upgraded during the past couple of years and gets better each time.

Our family met on Herron Island for a long reunion weekend, and we landed in the best possible location. The cabin is cozy and yet the layout is spacious, offered every possible necessary amenity (plus things we'd never think of!), and the owner is exceptional about communication. We made some wonderful memories and we hope to return again soon.

A great place to decompress.
Spending time on Herron Island for our family was a good way to decompress. With terrible cell reception, no broadcast, cable or satellite television, no internet, no easy to access restaurants, stores or other services, it was a great place to "unplug" from our regular lives. We found it quite relaxing to just wander the beaches, stretch out on the hammocks, prepare all our meals (no food delivery here, and going to a restaurant would have to require significant planning with ferry schedules),and to feed and interact with the local deer population (all very used to people). Diane, our host, was very responsive to the minor issues that did arise during our stay. There are some maintenance needs with the property that will probably need to be dealt with in the near future, but nothing that kept our stay from being enjoyable.

Peaceful getaway
Diane’s home on Herron Island is a wonderful place to disconnect and recharge. The house is fairly secluded with lots of privacy, the yard is great for dogs to play. The host’s responsiveness is excellent. She answered all questions I had within minutes. The neighbors have dogs and there are no fences, but if your dog can stay within the confines of the yard that shouldn’t be a problem. The island is a wonderful place for long strolls with two absolutely beautiful beaches. During my visit I had the beaches completely to myself most of the time. This was my second time staying at Diane’s house, I look forward to my next visit!

First off season visit
We have stayed here during the summer before but never in the off season. We were able to join the island when the weather was nice, otherwise we enjoyed the cabin and the wonderful fireplace.

Wonderful place for a retreat
This place is a gem. Not only is it a dog friendly place, but clearly a place where dogs are loved. They have nice little touches like a food/water dish, and even a little emergency stash of extra dog food in the cupboard and a stack of dog towels. It’s a very relaxing place to unwind, get a digital detox. Numerous great places to nap or read. Games, art supplies, lawn games. Nice artful touches throughout. A great retreat. It was better than in the description. The locals were friendly, too. Encountered few people, but those we did were nice and waved.

Great island getaway
This is our second time here.
This is a perfect place to relax during the summer either reading a book in the hammocks or taking the kayaks for a trip around the island.
The kids love the beach and feeding the local deer.
Remember to bring popcorn for the airpoper

Deers galore!
We had a fantastic time on Herron Isalnd. Diane’s place was perfect for what we were seeking.
Make sure to bring plenty of fruit and vegetables - you will see (and be able to feed) lots of deers during your stay!

Lovely Stay
The ”cabin” is well appointed with all of the basic amenities and then some! Location is private and lovely! My family (of 4 and with dog in tow too) are plotting for a return trip. Diane was accessible and accommodating.

Perfect off the grid get away.
My husband and I spent 5 days here for our 30th wedding anniversary. We had nothing but time to talk and hang out together and spend just comfortable quality time. We played Skip-Bo that we found in the upstair living room cabinet, watched a few DVD's that were provided, sat out on the decks and sipped some wine and just chilled. We lite up the fire pit and relaxed there for awhile one quiet evening. We went on some short walks with our dog and enjoyed the views of nature and the sound. Everything about the cabin was wonderful...the beds were comfortable as well as the couches. The kitchen was adequately stocked with what we needed. Communication with Diane was easy and quick. The neighbors were really nice and accommodating...everyone waves as they drive by to say "hi". Overall this was a really nice stay. Thank you to the Rohrbachs for allowing us to stay at their cabin.

A Magical Retreat on Herron Island
This quaint and homey cabin-home-getaway is the perfect place to completely disassociate yourself from the rat race for a few days. Carefully and lovingly decorated interior. Comfy couches on multi-levels, two beds that were like clouds to sleep on. Fully equipt kitchen, a couple coal BBQ's on an expansive deck. Both the front deck with great lighting for after-hours fun and the fire pit and hammock areas are lovely places to spend time. We curled up on the couches upstairs with books and music on the stereo upstairs. Deer were present a lot, bring extra fruits and veggies - they eat out of your hands! The public beaches are completely unique, the marina offers a boat launch and swimming dock, a good place to launch your inflatable as we did. The south beach requires some effort to get to and back - a fairly steep trail from upper road to beach - but it is stunning. (Most) of the locals were friendly and welcoming. I highly recommend this cabin and Herron Island as a place to go where nobody knows your name.

check out of the world here
This place is a great place to check out in you need to check out. I didn't read the description close enough to realize the docks were not on the property. There is plenty of firewood, a ton of outdoor seating, and a fun golf cart that provided more entertainment then I would have thought. The kitchen was equip enough that you don't need to bring anything but food. All and all it was quite a lovely stay.

Quarantine Getaway
This location was the PERFECT change of scenery! Very easy to social distance since we were often the only people at the beaches. The backyard hammocks are magical! Feeding the deer was a big highlight. The home is wonderful! Very clean and organized. Very comfortable beds. Easy to communicate with home owner. We had no problem with cell service (AT&T). Wonderful movie selections too! We can't wait to go back!

Bucolic and restful
Diane’s cabin is in a truly lovely setting and I am going to miss those hammocks! The cabin is charming and very personal. The deer are very friendly and at home on the island which adds to the natural charm. Beaches are both wonderful and incredibly quiet. Great place for a quiet get away and Diane was incredibly gracious.

Idyllic
Diane is an extremely responsive and thoughtful host. Minor little issues were fixed immediately and the cabin itself was spotless and very comfortable. The wood stove was a welcome boon to our Florida bones on chilly mornings. We had a great time.

Great cabin!
The cabin was the perfect size for my 14 year old daughter and myself. We both enjoyed to wildlife and swimming and the quiet nights. The only bad thing during this visit was the smoke from the wildfires that made it difficult to see the stars at night, but this was not due to the cabin or the island. I would definitely recommend renting this place!

Peace & Quiet Achieved!
The cottage is gorgeous and super comfortable. This is a place you go to when you want to get away from civilization. The entire time I was there, I took walks, fed deer, and read books. We only left the island twice per week to stock up on supplies.
Here’s why I knocked 1 star off:
1. The kitchen was missing some crucial equipment - no non-stick pans (I bought one and left it there, so you’re welcome!) and only one knife (a paring knife).
2. One bed has a mattress that just plain needs replacing. Thankfully there’s 2 other beds that are perfectly comfortable.
3. The owner should consider making a list of things you might need so that you don’t have to turn right around and take a ferry back. For instance, when we got there, there were no coffee filters. We NEED coffee! So we left the next day to hunt for filters.
No real deal-breakers and all in all, we LOVED it there.

Get away from it all
This cottage is very clean, comfortable and is the perfect getaway from hectic city life. We stayed for seven nights to celebrate our Anniversary. What we loved most was that it is pet friendly, so we were able to enjoy our vacation with our one year old pup. The property is just beautiful, full of cute little details. The kitchen is well stocked with with cookware, the only thing missing were good knives (but luckily we brought two steak knives). The hammocks were a favorite hangout to read books, and the fire pit was a relaxing end to the evening. There are deer on the island and we were able to feed apples to a doe and her twin fawns in the backyard. We really enjoyed South Beach, and went several times to star gaze and for astro photography.
Diane greeted us when we arrived, and was very warm and welcoming. We would definitely come back and stay. Thank you Diane and Paul for sharing your wonderful cottage!

Amazing getaway
This was a nice family cabin, although it would also be great for groups or just a couple. My husband, myself, and our four kids had a blast for two weeks. Amazing neighbors taught our kids to drive a golf cart and catch dog sharks from the dock on North Beach. We loved feeding and petting the deer. We enjoyed a day trip to Tacoma to visit Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium. If you are a fan of Chicken Fried Steak, don't forget to stop at LuLu's Homeport for the best and biggest ever! Really can't say enough about this trip. Miss being on "Island Time." So grateful to have found such a magical and affordable family getaway.

Ferry Rides
Very cosy place for a small lodging...no TV....was somewhat hard to enjoy eating dinner here when weather isn't nice as was our case too cold to eat outside...there was no indoor seating nor tables to enjoy dinner as all seating is on the decks...cosy fire and very comfortable bed...all activities are restricted by the Ferry schedule...going to Seattle for nightlife is very limited last ferry can be 7:00pm... but if you are a great planner the island can be veryr elaxing
