Shopping
There are several well-loved brand stores in Fowey but the real charm of the town lies in the wide range of boutique, unique, and independent shops. You can spend hours browsing for clothes, homewares, crafts, glassware, art, antiques, books, seaside knick-knacks, traditional children’s toys and don't forget the old-fashioned sweet shop!
There are also top-quality bakeries where you can find bread, rolls, pasties, cakes and treats. There may be no large supermarket, but with two local convenience stores and a Boots, you'll still find everything you need. There is a Co-op around 5 miles away, Asda and Tesco are around 7 miles, and all the major supermarkets will deliver online shopping as well.
Things To See & Do
Fowey is an estuary river town, so the obvious thing to do is spend a day messing about on the water! There are many kayak, canoe, and boat hire centres that go from both Quays. If you don’t have the strongest sea legs, then why not just take the passenger ferry over to Polruan for an afternoon. If you fancy going a little further, you can take the ferry round to Mevagissey.
In the centre of Fowey there is a sweet little aquarium, a local history museum, and a MAD museum – all are worth a peek! Fowey has a 14th century church in the centre of the town and a 15th century fort, St. Catherine’s Castle, on the edge of the estuary overlooking Readymoney Cove.
The closest beach to town is Readymoney Cove, which has clean sands and is perfect for swimming. A swimming platform is moored off the beach during the summer months. There is also a fabulous little shop for all your seaside needs. However, no dogs are allowed between Easter and October.
Within a 5/10-minute drive, you can be at Polridmouth, Polkerris or Par Sands, and within a half hour drive you’ll find Carlyon Bay, Charlestown, Porthpean, Pentewan or Mevagissey.
An hour’s drive and you are on the north coast of Cornwall – this is where you will find the more dramatic coastline and good surfing on some of the beaches.
Bit of a thrill seeker? Then Cornwall has some fantastic opportunities to get your adrenaline buzz! Hang Loose at Eden, Adrenaline Quarry near Liskeard and Via Ferrata near Penryn are perfect for a day full of crazy activities, and Retallack Watersports near Newquay is the place to head for total-wipeout style aqua adventures.
There are hundreds of miles of fantastic walks in Cornwall. The South West Coastal Path alone winds 330 miles around the county. The Saints Way is 27 miles from Fowey on the south coast, right across to Padstow on the north coast. The Fowey Hall Walk is much more manageable at 4 miles and is the best way to see Fowey from all angles! We also particularly enjoy the Gribbin Head walk, especially when the Daymark is open on Sundays in the summer. Whether you enjoy the sea, woods, rivers, moors or fields, you will not be disappointed with the walks in Cornwall.
The closest major attractions are The Eden Project and The Lost Gardens of Heligan. They really do offer something for everyone and make an enjoyable day-trip. For green-fingered travellers, there are also many other great gardens; in fact, there are officially 12 Great Gardens of Cornwall!
Cornwall is famous for its mining heritage, and you will see many old engine houses dotted across the landscape. The countryside directly surrounding Fowey and St Austell is locally known as Clay Country due to its abundance of China Clay. Wheal Martyn is an interesting museum that gives a good insight into the history and culture of the clay works, and if you take the walk to the top of the grounds it overlooks a modern working pit. Further afield on the North Coast, head to Wheal Coates from the iconic Poldark-style tin mines.
There are lots of National Trust and English Heritage sites across Cornwall, as well as independent stately homes and gardens. Some of our local favourites are Lanhydrock House, Pencarrow House, Tintagel Castle, Restormel Castle and Caerhays Estate.
If you’re looking for somewhere just for the kids, check out Kidzworld, Camel Creek, Springfields, Dairyland, Indoor Active, Newquay Zoo or Porfell Wildlife Centre. This is just small selection of the many dozens of places for families to visit!

Beautiful house with stunning views and great location. Comfortable beds, well-equipped kitchen, and lovely outdoor space. Highly recommended for a relaxing stay.

Our second time at The Lookout and it did not disappoint.
Such a comfortable, easy house for our group of four adults and three children. We love the outside eating area and spent much of our time up there as we were blessed with perfect weather. Good improvement to front outside area too, a lovely spot for that early morning cup of coffee.
We shall most definitely hope to return!

Great location and views.
The house is well equipped.
My sister went to check the house before our arrival and had to clean up the kitchen as best she could. The oven and oven extractor were particularly dirty. Shame and not to be expected for the standard of the house.
Beds very comfortable.
Lack of toilet brushes was an issue in the bathrooms.

Not disappointed!
A lovely house enjoying spectacular views on every floor….plus….the outstanding outside space. We know Fowey well and have particularly enjoyed The Lookout. Everything in very good order, comfortable beds….white linen (thank you!) truly homefrom home.

A beautiful home away from home
We had a lovely week in the Lookout enjoying the amazing views.

Beautifully put together property
Lovely venue with all mod cons! Excellent view and short walk to the shops, restaurants etc. The only slight negative is the parking. Couple of carparks located extremely close to the house but these are invariably full during peak times so bear this in mind when you're returning home before 5pm.

Lovely house and location
We were a family of 7 with young adults enjoying the town, an old duffer enjoying the sailing and all of us enjoying the walks and seaside. The house is great - with an ace living/dining/kitchen room so we all felt together. The bedrooms are not generous because it is getting the most out of a town house, and does so very well... so lacks storage in some of the bedrooms - but that is a small compromise for a brilliant location and very comfy house that is well fitted out. We cooked properly every night and the kitchen did us well for that (though we always take extra pans!)

Lovely relaxing stay in a gorgeous house with stunning views and great location for amenities. House has been beautifully renovated, lovingly and to an excellent standard.I think my one thing was the sofa- rather uncomfortable .

Fantastic location and beautifully decorated house
Super house particularly the downstairs area, upstairs also beautifully decorated. We thought some more storage was needed in the bedrooms on the first floor especially the twin room.

Fantastic family holiday
We had a wonderful 2 weeks in this gorgeous house in the centre of Fowey. Lovely to sit out and watch the world go by on the Estuary. Plenty to see and do and plenty of nearby beaches to visit. The house is really well equipped and our family of 6 felt really at home. Would highly recommend

A nice place to stay
Overall a lovely house. Good view. Modern decor. Spotlessly clean. The lack of car parking was a real pain. The ice machine on the fridge didn't work and there was no coffee machine which we would have liked.

.did think bunks might be better as one bed next to the window could be considered alittle dange
Fantastic views from the windows all the house has been refurbished. Easy to walk in to town which has every thing you want. The house is lacking a few things in the kitchen ie more saucepan s. And l think it should be advertised for 6. People plus 2 children

Perfect 👌
We had a very wonderful time at this beautiful house. There was everything you need and the few from the terrace and the living room window was amazing. We spent a lot of time there just looking at the river and having good drinks. Fowey is a nice little town where you can find lots of little shops good restaurants and pubs. We will come back! Thanks for a wonderful holiday!

Beautiful large house in lovely Fowey
The house is absolutely beautiful, there was lots of space for us all, the seating area at the front was lovely for breakfast and people watching. Location perfect.

Great house if you don't want to use your car all the time. Lots of good shops, pubs and restaurants
A lovely house with beautiful views and nice easy walking to shops and pubs. It would really benefit from having a mirror in the top bedroom as very difficult to apply make up or dry hair in there.

Delightful Townhouse in great position
We had a wonderful stay ( and Christmas ) in The Look out. Great position overlooking the estuary, close to the ferry ( great coastal walk ) and very close to the centre.
Immaculately presented house in a contemporary style we like. Spacious bedrooms all with great sea views . A lovely open plan living area and very well equipped kitchen. We really appreciated our Christmas treats and the beautiful Christmas tree on arrival. A very memorable stay. Thank you very much .

Perfect for families or singles and fantastic all round!
Fabulous central location which comfortably housed two families.
Parking was about £30/£40 for the week and only a few hundred yards up the road. Door step drop off is a breeze. Once you've visited Fowey you will appreciate that cars aren't required and definitely impossible to be attached to any property worth staying in!
The house is three lovely storeys and immediately opposite the slip, so crabbing and boat fun was had; while others in the party cooked dinner, drank wine, and every-so-often checked on the others. Binoculars from Outriggers were bought and smugglers watched day and night 😉
Marvellous week and The Lookout was just perfect.
Online shop delivery is perfect and the delivery gang from either major supplier are super friendly. Internet a breeze. That said; the local shop in town is really well stocked and very reasonable. The bakers are superb and open early for those loving an idilyic five min stroll to their door.
It's a great position to visit many local sights, and we did, but *the most* fun was had in town with the locals and messing about in boats. Memories were made!
We will definitely be booking up again for whenever we can get down to gorgeous Cornwall.
