Authentic feel of historic Onomichi hostel. Friendly helpful owner.
4.1
Sehr gemütlich, alles, was man für eine Nacht oder zwei braucht.
4.1
Nice guesthouse! Very centrally located with access to nearly everywhere in Onomichi. The owner is a cool guy too.
4.1
Very cozy place, old japanese house with english perfect speaking guy, who helped with other questions according to our travel. Not the cleanest place in Japan, but friendly community atmosphere.
Nothing.

convenient and clean, nice space close to lots of attractions

We are mature traveller's who ski and hike, so reasonably fit. This ryoken suited us fine. Great location, 5 minutes stroll from the station, lots of shopping and restaurants at each end of the lane way. Our room was up 2 narrow, steep staircases which was fine for us - mid 60's and mid 70's. Our room had an internal landing, room was a good size with water view. Quirky wooden style traditional Japanese room with very comfortable beds, air-conditioning and sliding windows to watch the locals pass by. Good kitchen to make tea, meals etc. Great coffee in the attached Cafe. Lounge area to relax in and meet other travellers. The shower room and toilet are on the ground level so a little hike downstairs in the middle of the night. Great host, very friendly with a good record collection. All the travellers we met were very friend.

We liked that our room had AC and clean sheets and it was in a good location for a biking route
The place was not clean, especially the kitchen which was super dirty and lacked dish soap and clean dish sponge. Everyday the owner showed some people around and it amazed us that he didn't notice dirt and lack of basic necessities. There are rats downstairs so we were happy that our room was located in the attic. Our mattersses were ok to sleep, we were also given additional blankets which was nice. Room also had AC.

Superb location. Close to both the station and ferry terminal.
A little dirty. Low ceilings on the main stairs make it hard to move around. Fine for a short stay.
4.1
Very good location not far from station and bicycle hire. It is almost possible to walk undercover to hotel along arcade from station. Late check out, bags can be stored before check in. Large space in Sea view room. Cheaper than most places in Onomichi ( certainly those close to station ).
Very expensive compared to elsewhere. If you want to cycle the Shiminami Kaido it is better value in Imabari. Very noisy - can hear everything from next rooms, outside passer-bys, cars, bikes, boats. Toilet and shower are passable. Its an old old place that has heritage but too much clutter and junk in kitchen and recreation areas. Bedding is musty. Nowhere to brush teeth or shave without having a shower. ( Kitchen sink? )

Easy check in and check out. Very close to the start of the Shimanami Kaido. Staff was polite and friendly.
It's an older building, but we went knowing this so it didn't bother us much!

Guesthouse has lots of charm and character. Love staying in these older, not so “perfect” homes. The owner hiro is friendly and speaks good English. Aircon and WiFi were good, well stocked kitchen and cozy common area. The sink outside didn’t bother me, but lots of clutter around it which could easily be cleaned up. Location is good too, close to the port for shimanami kaido and station.
It wasn’t a problem when I stayed there but these old homes are incredibly noise sensitive. If there are loud/rude people you might wake up. Would bring ear plugs just in case.

It was a very friendly, relaxed space. The room was way bigger than I imagined, and we had a lovely view of the water. The bed was extraordinarily comfortable. Shower pressure was great, too, which felt very luxurious. Don’t forget to bring your own towel if you don’t want to rent one for 200 yen. We’ll definitely stay again.

Very close to the ferry. It's convenient for people who wants to start the cycle early in the morning.
The sink and laundry are outside. Not a big deal if it's only an overnight stay. Just brush your teeth while in the shower. They should also implement a time for lights out. The house is pretty old so every steps of the other guests at night will definitely wake you-- can't really solve that. (I was exhausted from cycling but still didn't sleep well. For whatever reason, the other guests were walking up and down a lot, which felt like they did the entire night).

Very unique experience staying in such a traditional Japanese style building. The renovations done to the house are well done. The location was fantastic, right off of the shopping arcade and an easy 5-10min walk from the station. The staff were great, friendly and helpful.
Just be aware there is only one shower and toilet shared by the entire house - which is not that much of an issue as I don't think the house capacity is that high. Also there is only one communal sink (the kitchen) for brushing teeth and washing your hands etc. Travellers with luggage be aware there are some very steep and narrow stairs in the house you have to go up.

Good location, right in the heart of Onomichi - although there isn't much to see and do there. Hiro the owner was very nice and welcoming. He even cooked a huge pot of nabe for all the guests and we split the bill. A delicious and cheap way to spend the evening!
The entire place has a rustic but homely feel to it. There is one toilet and one shower. I wasn't sure where the bathroom space was so brushed my teeth in the kitchen, which felt a bit weird.

Not much
Very pricey for the kind of facility available. Not clean, not comfortable and very noisy.

Location. Friendly owner
Catastrophically noisy. Owner loves do it yourself so holes in walls and windows to outside, between rooms.....you can hear everything inside and out! Only 1 toilet and shower between 9 guests....washbasin outside. Cheap bed linen. We got a business hotel for same price for next night and got sleep to recover.
