About this farm stay rental
Tucked away on a sunny hillside, ‘La Camelia’ is an old Tuscan farmhouse of great charm & character. It has recently been refurbished to the standards & comforts of modern living, yet retains its original flavour with terracotta floors, chestnut beamed ceilings, & hand-painted majolica tiling. This is a relaxed & comfortable property in harmony with its natural surroundings & suitable for children.
The ground floor has a spacious, open-plan layout of kitchen, sitting and dining areas, with double doors to a conservatory & then a wisteria-covered outdoor eating area. The house has recently been extended into the barn to create 2 additional reception rooms. Upstairs the house sleeps 10 in 5 bedrooms in total: 3 double bedrooms, 1 twin bedroom and a bedroom with 2 single beds.
The house is set in an attractive, enclosed garden with views over unspoilt hills. A notable feature is the cascading, split-level saltwater swimming pool, 16x5m, with travertine surround, set in green lawns, the higher level being a separate shallow pool for children. There’s a patio around the higher level of the pool with ample good quality pool furniture for sunbathing. By the pool there is an outdoor dining area covered by a pretty portico. The garden also includes a more formal outdoor dining area beneath wisteria, a brick barbecue, and a working pizza oven - which, while for professional use only - the house manager can happily book a pizza chef to make them for you. The pool is open May-September. It is not heated but its is warm in the summer months.
'La Camelia' is 15 mins from the centre of Lucca, within easy reach of Pisa, Florence, Siena & the sea. The picturesque town of San Martino in Freddana is a 5 minutes drive & offers local food shops, a supermarket, post office, pharmacy, bank, bars & restaurants.
Lucca is a beautiful historic city surrounded by intact 15 century walls, around which you can walk or cycle. Famous for its medieval towers, churches, & 'Piazza Anfiteatro'; its winding paved streets offer an array of smart boutiques, gourmet shops, excellent restaurants & traditional markets. Puccini was born there & daily recitals of his music take place in the 12 c Basilica of San Giovanni. There's also an annual open air festival of his operas during July & August at Torre Del Lago, 30 mins away.
Pisa is around 35 mins drive from the house, Florence is 60 mins. The nearby towns of Montecarlo & Vinci (home of Leonardo) are lovely places for lunch, the latter with some very good restaurants & a Leonardo museum.
The elegant seaside resorts of Versilia - Viareggio, Pietrasanta, Lido di Camaiore & Forte Dei Marmi are around 40 mins drive.
Not far from the house there are a number of wonderful villas & gardens built in the 16th & 17th centuries, the most famous being Villa Garzoni at Collodi, home of the creator of Pinocchio. Around Florence there are also several grand Medici villas worth seeing. The old spa towns of Montecatini & Bagni di Lucca are of interest; as are the picturesque ancient towns of the Garfagnana region such as Barga & Castelnuovo.
Further afield - day trips to Siena, San Gimignano, Volterra, Cinque Terre, Arezzo & the mountains of Carrara are well within reach.
Tennis, riding, bicycle hire & golf are all available in the area.
There are 5 challenging & beautiful golf courses around an hour's drive.

We stayed for a week as a family of five and had a fantastic holiday. The pool was a big hit (as was the darts board) with everyone and the house is lovely with really comfy beds. The kitchen is well equipped and the outdoor seating areas for enjoying meals are gorgeous. We were slightly disappointed that we couldn't use the pizza oven as we have in previous rentals. The air conditioning was definitely needed and we did feel that it should have been included instead of being an additional charge. The property would also benefit from a welcome package of a few groceries as many rentals provide these and are really welcome for the first night. We did have an amazing time though and thoroughly enjoyed exploring the area which has lots to offer. Lucca and the surrounding region is stunning.

Everything about the property was fantastic! It exceeded all expectations. The attention to detail on the rooms, decor, fully stocked kitchen with everything you could possibly need.
Communication with the owner and the house manager was excellent. Would definitely recommend if you need help with the activities in the local area:)
It was the perfect location to spend my birthday with friends and family and would recommend to anyone wanting to spend time in that region.
It is also so close to vineyards for wine tasting and the scenery is absolutely breathtaking:)

La Camelia is an absolutely beautiful villa located at the end of a winding single track road in green wooded hills about 25 minutes from Lucca. The pool and gardens are beautifully maintained, there’s a BBQ, table tennis and other games for entertainment, the kitchen and living areas are well equipped, the bedrooms are comfortable and well decorated, the bathrooms are clean and modern. 5 stars all round. The local village is about 5 mins drive and has a decent supermarket, bar and pizzeria. The beach is a 30 minute drive. There are lots of places to visit nearby and Lucca is worthy of more than one visit to see even part of what it has to offer. A car is essential

Super house, excellent facilities, good service. The house is located in beautiful surroundings. The outdoor facilities like the swimming pool, the pizza oven and grill, dining facilities are fantastic. With good weather the perfect place for relaxing en enjoying life with family and friends. In house facilities like kitchen and bathrooms are also very nice and well maintained. (A small advice: Make sure you read the waste disposal instruction carefully and follow it by the detail, a small mistake causes a big fine).

This house is in an absolutely stunning location, surrounded by the Italian hills and Cyprus trees. The property itself was very homely, modern but with many beautiful period features including beams, open brick and stone work such as the open outside bbq area. The decor is high quality; with lots of interesting art and decorations. The house which has 3 stories is Incredibly spacious inside and out with multiple areas for dining, relaxing and the zones in the garden area are brilliant too. The bathrooms and bedrooms are all a fantastic size and perfect for a family. We had some excellent recommendations for local dining which gave a real taste of Italian living. You’ll definitely need a car to get around but we absolutely loved coming back to this property to relax and unwind after a busy day exploring Lucca and the surrounding areas such as Pisa and Florence. We would highly recommend for either a small group or a larger family. Thank you!

Back from a lovely week staying in this property just outside Lucca. This house is perfectly located in beautiful countryside yet only a short drive from the old walled town of Lucca. The house itself was really well appointed with everything one could want. A lovely kitchen as well as outdoor BBQ area and plenty of outdoor seating so we could enjoy eating outside in the last of the late summer warmth. Super spacious as well with a large living room and bedrooms with views over the local countryside. There's also a great local pizzeria and small but well stocked supermarket only 5 mins drive from the house. We made plenty of trips to Lucca as well as deeper into the North Tuscan countryside and a very easy day trip to Florence on the train from Lucca. All in all a great week in a wonderful location. Will definitely go back..

Excellent facility for family holiday
Absolute worth to stay for your next holiday.
Delicious house facility in real authentic Toscanini style.
Good and well functioning house, nice kitchen and a lot of living space.
We where 8 adults and 4 children and It was nice to have the 4 separate bathrooms connected the 5 sleeping rooms.
Perfect pool and very children friendly.
We booked Chef- Sapori Coscani to cook a dinner for us and we had a great evening and enjoyed the Chef’s company and delicious food.
The garden not to forget. Very well maintained and with more cozy places where we enjoyed sitting in the late evenings.
The house Manager was very helpful and we got from her the best service for all sour needs.
Alice - thank you for your percistence during the COVID period 2020 - and for your support which meant that we could spend the holiday in 2021.
Our best recommendations for this property.

Lovely stay for the family
We went as a small family group with grandparents and toddlers.
It was a lovely home to stay in, we really enjoyed the pizza oven, the shallower pool for the little ones and Tanya the house manager was great for recommending things and booked us a great restaurant. We loved visiting Lucca and the beach (both about 30mins away)
Thanks for a really lovely week!

The house is a presented in the pictures...or even better! The kitchen is fully equipped, especially enjoyed the barbecue and the pizza oven, which made the culinary experience even better.
The owner (Alex) was very helpful and responded very quick to our questions prior to our stay. And the facility manager (Gina) was very friendly and helpful during the check in and during our stay (in case of any questions, we have contacted her via WhatsApp...so super easy!).
Location wise, the house is located in a remote area, so you need to have a car. Supermarket(s) are only 10-15 mins. away. Also a trip to the city Lucca is easy, just a 15-20 mins. drive. Bottom line, if you have a car it doesn’t really matter that the house is not located in the city itself.
All in all, a brilliant holiday, THANKS!

Lovely Tuscan farmhouse for family holiday.
Well equipped with a fabulous pool which both children and adults enjoyed. Great outside areas for dining and playing. We all had a lovely family holiday.

Everything was perfect - the house, the pool... green area for kids. Kitchen was well provided with all necessary tools, nice bedrooms, most of them combined with bathrooms. Great time for all of us - three families with couple of kids. We would lovely stay there one more time ... hopefully in next years.

Great for families, especially little ones
We were 6 adults and 3 young children on this family week. The house was well equipped, roomy and the pool area was ideal. We especially liked the 3 different areas outside for dining and drinking as well as the ping table! While there was no air conditioning (which may matter to some folks) we found the fans and open windows served us well. We would recommend this house to our friends without reservations. Down the hill from the house was a great Gelateria (Silvias) as well as great thin crust wood fired Pizza at La Piazzetta (oddly not in tripadvisor). The food mart Simply was around the corner from Piazetta- all of these were within 10 minutes of the house. We must note the owners as well as their property manager Gina were highly responsive and also accommodated our needs for cribs and high chairs. A 5 star recommendation.

La Camélia- fabulous group location!
Gréât location! Sun all day! Fabulous outdoor space no air con needed as it cooled down in evening - each couple had their own bathroom except top floor where one room has 3 single beds with 2nd room master! Lots of fans! Quiet within house! Easy drives to Lucca, Pisa, Florence and even did cinque terre! Because you are in mountains internet was a bit come and go. It was a perfect location for our family with thrift amount of privacy and gathering spots! The chef Morena made us a spectacular dinner at a very reasonable price! We had a yoga session on the grass in the morning! The local gelato and pizza spots were great and we went to a local butcher in Lucca to buy beef which we bbq’d which was fantastic. All in all terrific! Thank you

Perfect family holiday home.
We, 6 adults and 5 children had a wonderful holiday. The children's pool was a real bonus. End of season housekeeping issues were a bit irritating, parasols broken, couple of chairs with wobbly legs, non functioning second refrigerator. We had a chef come to cook a birthday meal which was the highlight of the holiday, highly recommended. Certainly a good choice overall!

Really lovely and relaxing
The property was perfect for 10 people. The kitchen was well equipped. Pool area really good as were the outdoor eating areas. Would be nice to have some comfy sitting area however. The slight downside is the villa is situated up a winndy hill so eating out was a bit of a drag. Overall we loved staying in la camellia. There’s so much to do around. We visited Lucca, got the train To Florence ( realised however you can drive and get a tram into the centre) drive to sam Gimignano, and cinque terre. The beach at camiaorie is worth visiting. We also had a lovely meal cooked by a local chef!

Lovely place to stay
La Camelia is a lovely place to stay. the villa is well equipped and comfortable. The garden and pool are great too. There was plenty of room for our family of 8 adults and 2 children. The table tennis was a bonus, we had great fun with that. Les and Alex were prompt and helpful in responding to any queries, I would not hesitate to recommend La Camelia as a lovely place to stay that is conveniently located to Lucca and day trips further afield. We got the train to Florence from Lucca which was very easy and avoided having to find parking there.

What a fantastic and beautiful authentic villa tuc
What a fantastic and beautiful authentic villa tucked away In the Tuscan Hills - we loved it at first sight!
We were three generations from 5 to 74 years old living at this old charming villa for 14 days in june/July 2018. The kids spent most of their time in the two wonderful pools and played with the nice local dog “Uma” and the adults where having a relaxing and Nice time along the pool or nearby in the cooler areas by the pergola etc.
We made wonderful dinners by the grill, using the herbs from the garden, and also had the available House chef prepare an amazing authentic tuscan dinner one night. Other days went with exciting trips to Lucca, Pisa, Florence, Portofino and Grotto del Vento.
Gina the House agent and her crew were very helpfull during all of our vacation. Big plus.
The Bad: The villa was burglarized a day when we were out for a couple of hours - iPhones, iPads, camera, passports etc. were stolen from us - the two robbers (that we saw rushing away on a scooter) came into the villa using a screwdriver on the patio door. Reinforced patio door and a house safe for guest valuables would be a plus to prevent others from that unpleasant experience.
Wifi was bad at the villa and we had to buy extra after the first week - something that should be included and work at a better speed.
To sum it all up: It’s a really wonderful villa at a beautiful location which I would recommend to everyone and bring my family to again - that is if the villa got a safe to secure valuables while sightseeing, and better wifi.

Comfortable and stylish Tuscan Farmhouse
Wonderful relaxing stay in the hills of Lucca in a well appointed farmhouse. Comfortable and stylish house, which was very clean and well equipped. Beautiful pool and gardens which we enjoyed in the lovely weather in June. Great outdoor space for eating outside. Not far from Lucca - but definitely felt like you were getting away from it all in a very tranquil location. Would definitely return.

Excellent Family Holiday
The owners were extremely helpful - allowing us to check in early as the house had not been occupied that morning, providing tips for the stay and 2 cots for the babies in the party.
The villa was superb - the pool is ideal with plenty of space and chairs/loungers, a child's pool and large, deep pool for swimming. It's also fenced off. The rooms were spacious and either en-suite or with easy access to a bathroom. We used the outdoor BBQ almost every night and the facilities easily catered for our party of 9 adults and 2 babies.
We thought the location was very handy - far enough away to have peace and quiet, but Lucca and surrounds are within an easy reach.

Tranquil Paradise
We are just back from a delightful week at La Camelia. One might think the last week in October would be cold, but whilst the nights come in around 1830, it's still warm enough to sit on the terrace and enjoy a glass of the local Tuscana Red. The house is beautifully equipped and laid out, and is more like staying in a home rather than a rental. everything is at hand, and we wanted for nothing. Lucca is only 20 minutes away and well worth a visit, but it's a difficult decision to go, or to sit in the tranquil gardens with a good book enjoying the spectacular views. The Simply Market in Monsagrati has everything you will need food and drink wise, but if you need a bigger selection, Carrefour in Lucca is not far away. We didn't attempt to start the bread oven, but did manage a couple of barbeques including the must try Fiorentina steaks.
In summary, a Tuscan home from home that we have every intention of returning to.

Pefect rural location close to Lucca
Myself and three friends stayed here in late September and had a fantastic weekend. The house is set in a gloriously peaceful rural setting a few minutes by car from the local village. The house itself is pleasantly unspoiled in the sense that it retains great character and charm alongside offering all of the necessary modernities. It has a lovely, cosy feel to it. The kitchen is well equipped and ticks all the boxes but I advise that on one day during your stay you get the outdoor oven fired up....We cooked the most amazing leg of lamb in it and, whilst it was cooking away, enjoyed a few glasses of 'Super Tuscans' on the terrace.
The gardens and terrace are well kept with plenty of poolside loungers and the swimming pool is a great size with the added benefit of a shallow pool for younger children.
Lucca is a must see.....My first visit but certainly not my last. It's about a 15/20 minute drive from the house. I recommend hiring a four up peddle bike and riding around the wall!......very touristy thing to do but great fun.
The cottage is perfect for relaxing with friends and family and enjoying the glorious Tuscan countryside. I have no doubt I'll be returning.
Bellissimo!!

Great property in a wonderful location
The house is very well equipped - feels like living in someones home rather than a rental. All the small things you need are there - so often in rentals they are not. All the bedrooms and bathrooms are very comfortable and the house stays wonderfully cool even if it is hot outside. The swimming pool is well maintained and the eating areas great for family gatherings.
The local villages have some really pleasant restaurants in the Lucca is brilliantly. Well worth going down to the coast

Fantastic Tuscan Farmhouse
We stayed here for a week in the Easter holidays, as a group of 8, and had a fantastic time. The house is amazing - wonderful original Italian furniture, plenty of en-suite bathrooms and large rooms. Everything was very clean and tidy and the kitchen was very well appointed, stocking all the basics and everything we needed. The kitchen-living room-dining area is great with a massive dining table that was host to lots of delicious suppers and lots of fun. The pool and garden areas are lovely, with lots of outdoor seating and eating areas. Lucca is a very easy drive away, with fabulous shopping and great restaurants. We also ventured down to the coast one day which was a nice drive and would be very do-able in the summer, although I can imagine that leaving the pool at La Camelia would be a bit of a hardship! On the whole, we loved this place, one of the nicest holiday houses we have ever stayed in, and we definitely hope to go back.

Perfect North Tuscan location
We stayed here at the end of September and had a wonderful break. The house is very spacious, well appointed and set in a beautiful location at the top of one of the hills surrounding Lucca. With a lovely pool and an incredible outdoor woodburning oven this house is perfect for an authentic Italian getaway.
An easy drive into Lucca meant we could visit the town for the shops and resturants and if we had stayed longer Florence is very easily visited either by road or train from Lucca. There is a brilliant local shop which had an amazing selection of produce including fish if you don't feel like the drive into Lucca.
On our last day we drove north to visit one of the seaside towns of the Cinque Terre which is well worth doing
Definitely hope to go back for another visit

The Perfect Lucca Hillside Getaway
We thought this property was beautiful and very comfortable with all the amenities. The history of the villa along with the surroundings made our stay so peaceful. The sunrise and sunsets on the veranda are unforgettable. We lounged at the pool, played music and prepared wonderful meals for our family and friends.
The listing description is accurate. The villa's location/directions are difficult for the first time, so we highly recommend arriving during the day. We enjoyed the surrounding areas: Lucca, Pisa, the sea, and Florence.
Our only suggestion for the owners would be to set up a better recycling system.

All we hoped for and more...
Our holiday at La Camelia was truly fabulous. We celebrated two big birthdays with all my family, including my 3 yr old grandson.
The farmhouse was truly excellent, clean and well appointed both inside and out, with fabulous pool, terraces and things to do. The BBQ was used extensively and eating outside for every meal bar one, including breakfasts was a delight.
We booked Morena for an evening to cook for us, who did us proud, buying, preparing and serving all the food, serving nibbles round the pool and shooing us out of the kitchen if we offered to help. She was a wonder, even decorating the table with flowers from her garden and candles.
We went to the beach for a day, which was lovely and sandy and only about 40 mins away. Lucca, which was only 15 mins away was beautiful and easy to walk around. We also caught the train from Lucca to Florence for the day, which was well worth a visit.
The service we had from the owner and the house manager were excellent and would thoroughly recommend it to our friends.
We were sorry to leave...

Quiet and tranquil retreat
The house was plenty big enough for our party of 7 adults and four children. The top highlight was the pool, which was shallow enough for an 18 month old to touch the bottom and always provided fun and relaxation. Next was the dining table under the wisteria which was the occasion for nice lunches and dinners.
Lucca was within an easy drive and we had a nice day out there, as also were some nice villas with gardens.
The ice cream parlour in San Martino in Freddana was also very popular as a short escape with a treat at the end.
The supermarket in San Martino (Simply) had everything we needed.
The house was as described and the housekeeper sorted out the Internet when we asked her to and was helpful.

A wonderful stay
La Camelia is a wonderful house in the most perfect Tuscan setting with beautiful views. It is a 5-10 minute drive from a village with good service facilities but the secluded environment of the house adds to tranqulity. We really enjoyed the big pool, the traditional well equipped kitchen and also the outside Pizza oven which we used with delicate pizzas as result. This place is a haven of calm and beauty. The owner was very service oriented. We had a wonderful time and would love to return.
