This was the perfect cabin for our (2) family Jeep trip to the Ozarks. The cabin was very clean, well laid out, and well decorated. We will be staying again!

This cabin was a great size for our family (4 adults + 3 children) and we were completely isolated in the woods near the Buffalo and numerous hiking trails. We spent one day exploring some of the many waterfalls in the area and of course hiked to Hawksbill Crag for sunrise. The cabin was clean and had all the amenities we needed for the weekend.

Very good response from the host and the best getaway for a weekend

Had a little trouble locating the property. Getting in and out in the Honda Civic was a bit of a challenge. Once we did locate we all enjoyed the space.

This was a family trip, in order to see the older sister who lives local! It was wonderful to be able to have a family setting for our visit. The cabin and fire pit was perfect for reflection of days gone by! We wish we would of stayed 1 more night!

Beautiful cabin surrounded by nature. We loved that it was tucked back in and not directly off of the highway. It was the perfect spot for our family to use as a home base for our trip!

Property was awesome… quiet and relaxing stay close to Ponca. Cabin was very nice and well equipped… will definitely be going back.

We absolutely loved staying here and it was truly quiet and you felt alone in the woods. Many places in the area are exposed to road noise, traffic, and close neighbors but this cabin is the perfect getaway from all of that while still being close to all the Buffalo river has to offer. You can really tell Dianne cares about her property and guests as the house was fully stocked with everything you could need for the weekend (chairs, lighters, grill, olive oil, pots, pans, and more!).
We will definitely be back!

We had a great time staying at the mama bear cabin. Enjoyed evenings around the fire pit. Would definitely stay here again.

We have been lodging at the Buffalo for the past 20 years. I am rating this cabin as EXCELLENT. It was very quite. I know a lot of the cabins sit on the highway and this sits down off the highway Location is excellent to hike the Ponca/Boxley/Compton area. It is clean, new, and has all the amenities you need. Nice to have access to a washing machine and dryer as well as stocked with plenty of paper products fire wood for the fire pit etc that you typically have to bring along! This would be my top choice for a recommendation on the Buffalo to hike or float or hang out!

Lovely cabin in the woods. Close to hiking trails.

Great Cabin, secluded located, lots of room to spread out. Close to lots of great hiking and floating of course. Would recommend an all wheel drive vehicle for the driveway, pretty steep for the mama bear cabin

Cabin was perfect for our two families for thanksgiving! Well stocked inside and out!! Friendly and quick communication response on needs. Very accurate house description…we were even more impressed once seeing in person. Convenient access to all the trails, towns, and and activities in area we needed. Will definitely return!!

We stayed at the Mama Bear cabin for a week while visiting family in Harrison Arkansas. The cabin is just as described in the listing and was very nice. It was well stocked with everyday items. A few things should be noted about the driveway. We rented a minivan for the week and would NOT recommend this if planning to stay here. It is very steep and has loose rocks. Four wheel drive is necessary if it has rained at all. The only other negative thing is we lost power the morning we were leaving. This is of course not any body’s fault but having some emergency flash lights would have been nice since it was pitch black and we were trying to pack up and clean. Overall we had a great stay here and would recommend it to a friend!!

Beautifully built and secluded log cabin
We were very happy with this wonderful log cabin. The wrap around porch was enjoyed everyday while we enjoyed our morning coffee. I would love to come back to for another week in the future.

The cabin was fantastic, awesome design and build quality, we definitely hope to come back in the future. Well furnished, everything we needed, plenty of space for 5 of us.
As other reviews have noted, the driveway is steep, but our Honda Odyssey minivan made it out during a heavy rain without much trouble. It added to the adventure, definitely not a deal breaker.
Thanks for everything!

Family Getaway
The cabin was beautiful, as this was our second trip to it. We wanted to rent this one again because it was centrally located to everything we wanted to do. BUT after this trip it will likely be our last, on our first trip, someone kept shining a spotlight in one of the bedroom windows, we just thought it was someone's headlights and didn't think nothing of it. BUT this trip, we were out by the fire and someone was out in the woods with a spotlight and shined it on us!! That's just something you just don't do! And later that night around 2a.m. my oldest son had his window open upstairs, heard people talking outside in the driveway, then the light came on again. So needless to say whoever the peeping tom is, we will not be back. So the cabin is very beautiful, well stocked, beds are comfy, equipped with anything you need, gas grill. Hope you all enjoy your stay.

The Perfect Place
Everything was absolutely perfect. The owners thought of everything possible to make our stay so comfortable and enjoyable. We just had the best weekend and my three teenagers didn’t want to leave.

Mama Bear Hugggg!
Great location as a launch point for access to several trails in this area. Rick got us setup with the gas fireplace remote indoors and had plenty of dry firewood for our outdoor campfire need for s’mores making! Kitchen had everything we needed and beds were comfy.
Our group throughly enjoyed our stay at Mama Bear!

Ultimate Getaway
If you want the full cabin experience, this about covers it. Everything was perfect! It’s several years old, but looks and smells brand new. The cedar walls still make the cabin smell like the outdoors. My only word of caution is don’t try to take a car down to the cabin. My pickup didn’t have an issue, but the driveway is a little rough. That only added to the secluded feel for me, though.

This cabin is absolutely beautiful. Everything was perfect and the owners are wonderful and take care of any issue or needs that come up. This is the second time we stayed here and we would go back in a heartbeat. We wish we could have stayed longer. This is by far the nicest cabin we have stayed in. If you are going to stay near Ponca,AR. This is the place to stay.

We enjoyed our stay! Loved the location. We visit Ponca to see the elk every fall. In the past we have stayed in Jasper but enjoyed the convenience of staying nearby at the Mama Bear Cabin! Just a short trip to drive down to Boxley Valley each morning and evening.
The cabin was clean, secluded, and quiet! Will definitely be back!

My family and I enjoyed our stay at Mama Bear.
The Pros:
The cabin was beautiful and spacious enough for the six of us. We were never on top of one another, and the family room couch could accommodate us all.
The kitchen thankfully had the essentials as we cooked almost all of our meals there.
I loved the privacy and the quiet at the cabin. No highway sounds, trains, airplanes, or motorcycle sounds. Just the sounds of ourselves and nature.
We loved the fire pit and generous amount of wood provided to burn. We spent most evenings spending our last waking hours together there.
Wifi was just fine. No complaints at all from the kids about that.
Mama Bear was centrally located for the adventures we took such as ziplining, canoeing, off roading, and swimming.
The Cons:
This is no one's fault, but cell service (Verizon) was nonexistent. There is a landline at the cabin, however, I was unable to make local calls. I contacted the host who told me I could only make local calls, so I'm not sure what happened there. The Mountain Springs Church nearby had cell service.
It would've been nice to have a TV in the master bedroom to unwind from the kids for an hour or so before turning in, but it was not a deal breaker. No TVs in the kids bedrooms forced them to watch together in the family room. (I was happy about that!)
The final con were the beds! In tradition of the Goldilocks tale, Mama Bear beds were way too soft! We found this to be true at Mama Bear cabin. My husband and I, who don't suffer from back problems, were stiff and sore by the end of the week. Kids generally are more tolerable of soft beds than adults, but my 2 adult kids and 2 teens both said their beds were too soft too.
Some Things To Consider:
We did not have any issues getting up the gravel driveway to leave the cabin, but others may. It is quite steep. Our E350 van has 4 wheel drive, so we were fine.
We were under the impression there was a guest account for Hulu for us to use, but you do need your own subscription. The cabin description lead us to believe we didn't. Netflix had a guest account, so we mainly watched that.
There were very few restaurants nearby. We were glad we brought our own food from home and cooked ourselves.
Overall our stay was fun and relaxing. I would recommend staying there.
