Our stay at Villa
I have to say I tended to agree with the 6 ladies, who wrote to the owner about issues that concerned them, and got a rather rude response from him. The hill is very steep, and you'll need a car, especially if you're not fit. Having said all that, we found our stay very peaceful and relaxing. The restaurant at the top of the hill the restaurant is very good

Very comfortable, lovely location
We spent a week in November relaxing is the very comfortable home. All the rooms are all spacious and well appointed - perfect for relaxing and enjoying the great views over the rolling landscape. Nigel was always responsive and provided excellent information and tips. Intermarche for shopping is very close and has everything you need. The local restaurant is O Luar a Foia, literally up the hill and well worth the climb up. After enjoying the excellent local food you have an easy stroll back down! We really enjoyed the hiking to Foia, Picota and the hills above the Convento (well worth the visit). Trips to the coast were relatively easy and also enjoyable, particularly the lighthouse at Sagres - more great walking. All in all, a lovely time spent in a lovely area.

Unbeatable Value for a High End Villa
We stayed two weeks with our two teenage boys and Granny. Had a super time, the villa was perfect in every way, the beds very comfortable and linen and towels top notch. The lounge is well furnished and we used our Netflix account on the TV though there was a good selection of English programs as well. The kitchen is well equipped and the outside entertainment area was used every day.
The views from the villa are quite something, literally, from every window and we sat out late at night watching the sparkling lights along the coast. The kids were in the pool for hours at a time even Granny went in. The kids made friends with the neighbours black lab Duke. We had several barbecues and ate at some of the restaurants that the owner recommended, all were very reasonable with good food, friendly service, it was nice that we were not rushed, very relaxing, our favourite was the wild boar and an black pork, the kids loved the chicken piri piri, Granny liked the fresh fish.
We spent quite a few days visiting some of the west coast beaches, Arifana was the best for body boarding but all of them are unspoiled and not too crowded. We spent a day in Lagos which is a very nice town with a lovely marina that do all kinds of boat trips.
All in all the villa was very good value for the excellent quality provided and so we have decided to come back next year. We would certainly recommend this villa for any one wanting a quality holiday at a very reasonable price. Well done Nigel

Paradise at last!
We have rented villas on the coast of the Algarve for many years but have grown weary of the traffic, crowds and being overcharged in restaurants for mediocre food. So we tried Monchique, what a revelation!
We found Villa Vida Nova on the internet and discovered the cleanest and best equipped villa we have ever rented. The views are spectacular and the location very convenient for everything. There are dozens of quality restaurants serving dishes we never new existed at prices half those on the coast. The town is cute with quaint shops and cafe's, unpretentious, there is an honesty about Monchique, the people are friendly and the place feels safe.
We explored superb beaches on the west coast and found country roads which took us to villages, Alferce and Marmelete come to mind and the same integrity was found there. We are sorry that we did not discover Monchique years ago. We booked the villa with Nigel who gave us vouchers for discounts at several restaurants, he also advised us on getting a great deal on renting a car. Monchique and Vida Nova are going to become our first choice for our holidays from now on.

A Home from Home
We stayed here for the first two weeks of July and what a stay!! It truly has spoiled us for all other holidays, to the extent we have every intention of returning. The Villa Vida Nova is simply beautiful. A true Home from Home, every eventuality has been catered for. We enjoyed balmy BBQs in the outdoor kitchen to snug comfortable family games on windy nights in the very comfortable lounge. The bedrooms and bathrooms are so spacious and luxurious with large beds and air conditioning should you need it. However the “piece de resistance” is the view from the glorious infinity pool and terrace. I would recommend this stay to everyone as the hosts are so helpful and Ercilia is such a lovely Portuguese lady who keeps the Villa spotless. I do have one suggestion, don’t hire the basic engine car, as the climb to the Villa is a lot more pleasant in a car that doesn’t struggle, but it is the climb and the position of the Villa that gives you the views and the star filled nights with limited light pollution as well as the really clean air. Bon Voyage you will have a good one if you choose Villa Vida Nova!

A fabulous family holiday
First time to Portugal and it was jolly good. The owners provided everything we needed and more including cot and high chair, everything in the villa is to a very high standard of good quality and sparkling clean. The pool was warm so we swam almost every day and had a bbq on a few days. I would recommend this villa to any one wanting upmarket accommodation at very reasonable prices. We plan to return in the not too distant future.

Perfection!
We had two wonderful weeks at this amazing villa. Everything went to plan, the flights, the car rental which the owner advised us where to get a great deal, we arrived and were so grateful for the complimentary wine, we needed it. We stocked up with groceries at Intermarche and had a BBQ the first night. Hubby and his bro did some great chops and sausage whilst the children played in the infinity pool. We also had a dip later with the pool lights on, that was quite something as you can see the twinkling lights of the coast at eye level.
The villa itself looks like it was built yesterday, everything looks new and is so well kept, the maid never stopped working, she was lovely even though we could only grasp the gist of what she was saying. The beds are very comfortable and the sheets crisp, towels fluffy, kitchen was better equipped than ours at home, seriously.
We climbed the hill up to the closest restaurant, Luar something? It was brilliant, loads of food great service and small portions for the kids.
All in all this has been the best villa we have ever stayed in and would recommend it to anyone wanting something which is a cut above the rest. We intend making this a regular holiday venue, the location suits us very much, we love nature the greenery the peace and quiet and privacy yet we could walk into town, although with the kids we didn't. We are counting the days to our next visit!

Absolutely Fantastic
Stayed here a week and sorry to have to go home. Cannot fault this villa and we have stayed in many far more expensive places. Extremely good value. Superbly appointed, clean and comfortable. The owners have done a great job in creating this lovely holiday home. A very peaceful, safe, private and sunny location with breathtaking views of the coast. Pool was warmer than I expected for October. The villa is everything if not more than what the website portrays. We have booked again for 2018, thank you Nigel

Superb Villa with Breathtaking Pool and Views
We have just returned from a fantastic stay at Villa Vida Nova. What a stunning location and a beautiful villa. As has been commented in other reviews there is everything you could possibly need and more. Four of us have visited Portugal many times before, staying in hotels and villas on the coast but none of them match up to the accommodation or location of Nigel and Bev's property, for us it was ideal, remote enough to be private but with facilities within walking distance if we wanted, otherwise only a short drive away. Our holiday was purely for 3 siblings to relax by the pool while two "husbands of" went off to play a couple of rounds of golf. What a pool to relax by - the spectacular view down the valley, watching the swifts, swallows, house martins, buzzards, etc. We had a scorcher of a week with regards to temperatures and the air conditioning came in handy for our last two evenings. If you are considering booking this villa, do it - you won't be disappointed, we couldn't believe our luck - I do a lot of research before picking a holiday home and even I was shocked at how lovely it was.

The best villa we have ever stayed in!
We were six adults and all agree that this was the best holiday villa we have ever stayed in. The owner and staff have done a terrific job in providing everything we would have hoped for. The furnishings, beds, linen, is first class. The maid is delightful and every thing is so well cleaned we wish we could take her home. The pool and outside eating area is stunning and the views are amazing. The town of Monchique is lovely with so many restaurants we were spoiled for choice. We will be back for sure.

Wonderful villa in peaceful location
This is a very well-designed attractive villa. There is great attention to detail in both the furnishings and layout. We were both impressed by the tasteful decorative touches from the dried flowers to tile mosaics on the walls. An example of the design is the large built in closets in the upstairs bedrooms - I have never stayed in a rental with as much closet and drawer space. The property was extremely clean and well-maintained. The beds were all comfortable. The villa is spacious both in the grounds and inside. Where some may have been tempted to have 4 or 5 bedrooms, the 3 good sized bedroom and large living areas given a certain dignity and sense of spaciousness. The kitchen was well equipped as far as pots and pans, dishes and cutlery. The appliances all worked. Note - there is a clothes drying rack but no clothes dryer as such, to go with the washer.
There was a beautiful view of the valley from this hillside location from both inside the villa and the outside terraces and pool deck. When it is clear, one can see Portimao and the ocean on the horizon, about 20km away. There is a neighbour to the east side that is fairly close to the villa, but they kept to themselves. The west side of the house and around the pool deck is very private.
The villa is set well back from the road down a steep driveway. The location gives a sense of peacefulness. We walked into the pleasant town of Monchique a few times and also ate at the nice restaurant at the top of the driveway - the O Fuor da Foia, rated highly in Tripadvisor. You need to be reasonably fit given the road is steep. Monchique has a large modern InterMarche supermarket and some smaller grocery stores and butcher shops. There are also a number of pleasant cafes. There is a large shopping mall in Portimao.
A car is recommended. If you have one, the villa makes a good base for exploring the region. The west coast is about 45 min away by secondary road, while Portimao and the A22 main tollway is about 20min south. We went as far as Odeceixe in the north west.
Despite the weather during or stay in late Oct, we were able to use the pool a bit when the sun was shining brightly. It is not heated and was cool by that time of year, especially since we had some unusual cloudy days and rain.
We would not hesitate to rent from Nigel again. He was easy to deal with and extremely responsive to any questions. Given its high quality, the villa is a real bargain in the low and shoulder season. Highly recommend it.

Unforgettable!
Vida Nova, " a new life", that's what we had during our 2 week holiday, a very well appointed villa with excellent pool and a patio area with far reaching views. Nigel's directions to the villa were accurate, we found it straight away and no problems taking our 9 seater minibus to the large parking area. Everything in the villa was easy to use with plenty of information on hand. You can opt to chill at the villa or go site seeing locally, we did both and our 2 weeks passed far too quickly. We found everyone very friendly and became fond of the cleaner who never stopped working on her visits, excellent. We had a couple of BBQs but enjoyed all the restaurants more so they "won", they are all very reasonably priced, the one at the "top of the hill" was our favourite. I fed the fish as suggested in the info pack and by the end of the first week they were coming up to say "hello" or "bom dia" of course !!! We found the villa and the area very special and it won our hearts, we have no hesitation in recommending Villa Vida Nova. Happy holidays to any future guests. Pete Sue Don Vron Ian and Andrea

Stunning villa in an idyllic setting
We thoroughly recommend this villa - it truly was the getaway we were hoping for; in its peaceful location with breathtaking views, you really can't help but switch off and totally relax. The villa was very well-equipped for self-catering and was immaculately clean. The communication and information Nigel (the owner) provided from the time of booking and leading up to the holiday was excellent; very detailed and reassuring - we felt we knew everything about the villa before we arrived, which really helped us to feel confident - and excited! - about our holiday! Given its location, do be prepared for a steep drive down a narrow lane before you arrive at the villa - but you soon get used to it when you're going out and about. If you're hesitating about booking this villa, don't! You won't regret it.

Genuine 5* villa in beautiful setting
This is a wonderful place to stay. The rooms are fabulously appointed with everything that you could possibly want during your stay. The infinity pool is great and the views down to the Algarve coast are tremendous. Monchique is a charming little town and the local restaurants are superb. Nigel made sure that all aspects of our stay were covered with great customer service before and during our holiday. We can't wait to return! Highly recommended.

Stunning Villa in Stunning Location
This is a stunning villa set in a wonderful location. The villa is superb throughout and is furnished to a very high standard in all areas. Outside is just as impressive with the fantastic pool, ample loungers and parasols along with the covered sitting and eating area. The villa, pool and gardens are very well maintained and the owner is a delight to deal with. Restaurants are close by offering excellent food at great prices and the beaches are a short drive away. This villa offers everything giving comfort and peace in a wonderful location, offering the most amazing views. I would highly recommend this villa.

Just Amazing in Every Way!
The villa is just amazing the description and photos do not do it justice. It is 5 star luxury and we have never stayed in a villa of this quality before. We have paid the same and more but got the typical mediocre holiday let stuff. The owners have made this paradise. We used the pool and bbq everyday, so well equipped, Wifi was great and free.
We found easy drives to either coast and the local restaurants are just so cheap but gourmet food. Excellent. I would recommend this to anyone wanting a perfect holiday.
Oh Thank you for the complimentary wine Nigel!
See you soon.

Wonderful Villa in Peaceful Surroundings
We arrived at the villa to a very friendly Portuguese welcome by the next door neighbour & his dog. The views from the villa were amazing, looking out over the valley below & the coast line. The villa itself is very comfortably furnished & is very much a home from home. This is not a typical holiday let.. It has been equipped to be a home. There is plenty of crockery, pans & cutlery. Hubby loved the bbq and covets one like it at home.
Fresh orange juice will never be the same again! There was a plentiful supply of oranges on the trees & an electric juicer for making the best juice we have ever had. The only downside to this was the fruit flies that seemed to come in to the villa when the sun went off it. We sussed that if we shut the downstairs doors & windows before the sun disappeared it stopped them. (Small price to pay for the best oranges we have ever eaten/drunk). The town of Monchique is within walking distance & took us approx half an hour at a steady pace on a hot day (there is a hill to walk up from the villa before reaching the main road). The drive to the Town takes approx 5 minutes. The InterMarche supermarket had everything we needed including fantastic meat & fish.
If you like the beach then Alvore is approx 35 mins drive away (no toll charges on the motorway). The beach is extremely clean & spacious & from June has life guards stationed all the way along it. Albufeira is approx 50 mins drive but toll charges are applicable. All in all a wonderful, relaxing holiday was had by us both in this lovely villa. Could have done another two weeks on top of the two we had.

Perfect Getaway
The villa is amazing! The location is so tranquil and authentic with absolutely amazing views in addition to top quality furnishings. The pictures on the website are good but the reality is even better!
The location is perfect for an escape from it all whilst great beaches are only 45mins drive away.
I would return in a heartbeat!

The best villa holiday ever!
We have stayed in many villas over the years in Portugal and in other parts of Europe. This has been the best by far. We were two families, 4 adults and two children and a baby, we arrived late and it was dark, yet we found the key code, thanks for the torch, nice touch! We were greeted by complimentary wine which went down well after such a long journey and settled down to a restful nights sleep. We knew the views were going to be good for what we saw on the web, and we could see the twinkling lights that night but then in the morning, wow, the views blew us away! The girls went and did some food shopping and came back with fresh fish, wine, etc, Jim and I got the BBQ lit and we had a great lunch and chilled out in the pool. We stayed at the villa most days but went out most nights to eat in some excellent restaurants just up the road. The villa was so clean and well equipped it seemed as though it had just been opened, but I think its being going four years or more. Everything about this villa is tops and no short cuts, the maid was very friendly and efficient. We were sad to leave but have booked for two weeks next year. Hats off to Nigel who handled our booking and many questions that we had, stay here and you won't be disappointed. We broke an umbrella and two wine glasses and expected to pay for them from our deposit, but not so, our deposit was refunded in full. Thanks again Nigel.
