About this cottage rental
This apartment cottage is named after Prince Rupert of the Rhine, a nephew of King Charles I, who commanded the Royalist cavalry during the English Civil War and made Sudeley his headquarters.

The first floor has a bright and light open plan living area, dining area and fully equipped kitchen overlooking the main courtyard. A pretty, divided staircase leads up to the double bedroom and family bathroom to the left and the single bedroom (with under-eaves space for a ‘folding' bed) to the right.
Note: the three Old Forge apartment cottages have restricted headroom in parts of the bedrooms and landing areas due to the original oak beams and A-frame structure.

We stayed here as a base for the Fantasy Forest Festival. Really convenient and comfortable like a home from home.

This is a fantastic holiday cottage. Clean, comfortable and very well equipt. Book without hesitate and enjoy your time here.

An ideal property for a couple or a small family. It was very clean and had all amenities especially in the kitchen. It is an old building and that constrains the layout. So people need to be aware that the bedrooms are both small, with little headroom and little storage space. But that is also part of the charm. It is very close to shops and pubs etc. but far enough away to be quiet. Parking was easy. Sudeley castle is a must see, but there are plenty of other things to do in the area. We did some lovely walks straight from the front door.

Just a couple of points, not criticisms but it would have been useful to know:
To access the cottage there are quite a few steps and I'm not sure that we were made aware of this?
Unfortunately every area of the country has different rules regarding household waste and recyling. It would have been useful to have had some guidance in the cottage itself so that we could comply.

Beautiful Cotswold cottage in an amazing location. Exactly right for our visit 'back home'. We hardly needed to use the car. It's location on the edge of Winchcombe meant walking into town and into Sudeley Castle was easy, to say nothing of countryside walks. If you're looking for a genuinely peaceful location in a gorgeous setting look no further.
The only slight niggle was the toaster didn't work - it blew the electrics each time we tried. I reported it but it wasn't changed for the following day. We used the oven grill instead so no biggie.

Prince Rupert Cottage turned out to be the ideal choice for a long weekend in the heart of the Cotswold countryside. Just a short stroll from Winchcombe's charming high street and town centre, the property is ideally located for exploring the local area. There are some lovely walking routes nearby, including the public footpaths surrounding the house and grounds of the Sudeley estate (to which guests staying at the cottage are granted free admission).
Winchcombe is home to some very nice shops and eateries, and there is also the regular 'W' bus service to Cheltenham which departs from the war memorial bus stop just a short distance from the top of Castle Street. It's perhaps worth bearing in mind that the walk up to the high street involves scaling a bit of a hill towards the upper end of Castle Street. The cottage itself is also accessed via a series of ascending and descending stone steps, as well as a number of additional wooden steps which lead up to the entrance of the property.
The cottage is very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Given the age of the property, some of the upstairs floorboards tend to be rather creaky in places, and the low ceiling beams mean having to be a bit careful when accessing one or two of the nooks and crannies in the bedrooms. Unfortunately, the pine chest of drawers in the single room was damaged to the point of being unusable at the time of our visit (October 2023) - an issue which can hopefully soon be resolved.
Overall, a very pleasant and relaxing place to stay.

The cottage is extremely comfortable, beautifully furnished and VERY fully equipped. Such a great place to stay in the centre of Winchcombe and with free access to the wonderful Sudeley Castle.
Lovely pubs, cafes, delis etc. in short walking distance. We recommend 'The Corner Cupboard' and 'William's' in particular. It's worth checking in advance what's open on different days of the week, though, especially out of summer season.
Sudeley castle is amazing. It's really worth timing your visit to hear the talk, as it gives you so much background with which to explore the castle. Take a picnic!

The cottage was absolutely lovely, cute but also very comfy. Further everything you needed was provided. We felt very lucky to stay in this cosy perfect cottage and would always come back to it.Being able to visit Sudeley Castle during our stay without paying was a nice surprise.
The pubs in Winchcombe are very open to visitors so that we had several chatty evenings. We recommend the White Heart Inn for its food, its ales and of course for its top atmosphere.

Lovely cottage and surroundings,
Nicely done up with comfy furniture, books and paintings,
Many kitchen facilities,
Free entrance to Sudeley Castle (well worth seeing),
Wide parking space,
Winchcombe is a lovely place as well and has many to do and see nearby.

Would be nice to have different bins in the kitchen to sort the garbage, since there are different containers outside. And coming from Sudeley Hill it is likely to oversee the signpost of the site.

I stayed for 2 nights at the Prince Rupert cottage. The 3D tour on the website that I used before I made my booking was a true reflection of the cottage and helpful in my decision to book the cottage. I had no problems locating the cottage and accessing the property. The cottage is a short walk from Sudeley castle and restaurants. There is also a small supermarket nearby however a pint of milk and coffee/tea are provided upon arrival. It is in a peaceful quiet area. I was very happy with my stay and I am already looking at booking again for next year.

Nice cottage in a great location , cottage is a little dated in decor and does need a touch up with the decoration but was clean and had everything we needed .. great location for staying with pets although it would have been nice had the garden been fenced in . The deck outside was a nice spot for breakfast but in places was rotting so felt a little precarious and wasn’t very clean .. no seat pads for the table and chairs either and the table was old and very weathered . Overall it was a lovely stay as the walks around the property were lovely .

We had a lovely stay at the Prince Rupert cottage. It was very clean and well equipped with everything you need for a comfortable break away. The location is great for walking. Only 2 minutes from the town as well.

Although the check in time was from 4pm we arrived early (midday) to find that the cottage had already been cleaned and we were able to use it right away. We were pleasantly surprised to see that it was a very modern interior, extremely clean and comfortable with a selection of essentials for tea/coffee/biscuits etc. but also included little things like dishwasher tablets, cleaning products and full set of kitchen items.
The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom spacious with separate shower cubicle.
We were pleased to see that the TV was very modern and had apps installed for Netflix and Amazon Prime which were easy to log into and use.
The location was ideal with it being a short walk to Winchcombe High Street and Sudeley Castle.
In summary it was the perfect place to stay for a short visit to Sudeley Castle and/or the Cheltenham area and I would highly recommend it.

Very spacious downstairs, and nicely decorated. Well-organized bathroom. Very nice that this lodging comes with free entry to Sudeley Castle. In a lovely courtyard with the other castle rental cottages.
I was worried about one bedroom being up the other half of the staircase (halfway down, then up again to the bathroom), but it worked out better than I thought (you can gain momentum going down, that carries you up the other side!) A chair in the second bedroom (at the foot of the twin bed) would be helpful, for either sitting or holding a suitcase.
Winchecombe is a lovely town. We spent four nights there, taking walks, visiting the castle, learning the town's history, eating at the local pubs/bakery/restaurants, etc., all without a car. Although the last block up to the town from the cottages is a bit of a climb, for those of us not in the best of shape!

We really enjoyed our stay at the Prince Rupert unit at Sudeley Castle and so glad we booked this place! Wonderful location - quiet with deck facing greenery where one of the footpaths were located, behind some shrubbery for privacy. This is super close to downtown Winchcombe and easy to walk to shops, restaurants, bakery, and market. The unit itself is much larger than we anticipated. The kitchen is updated and included all the amenities we needed for our 2-night stay. Felt really spacious and clean. We appreciated the espresso machine and pods, electric water heater, and pots/pans, serving ware and silverware. The only thing that didn't work perfectly was a leaking kitchen sink faucet that dribbled water continuously. Nice big table in kitchen to have our breakfasts. The living room is small-ish but since it's next to the kitchen, didn't feel cramped. There is a love seat and a side armchair with ottoman that are both comfortable. Bathroom upstairs is nice with only a shower, which worked for us. We slept in the main bedroom (small-ish) with larger bed. The other bedroom with single bed we used as a "closet" to store our luggage since the main bedroom didn't fit these. The only con are the lengths of beds - my husband is 6ft 2in and the beds were too short for him (and there is a foot and head board), so sleeping was unfortunately uncomfortable. Super quiet location for sleeping. Nice restaurants and bakery nearby. Perfect location to access several different footpaths. We did a short 5 mile loop - via the Cotswolds Way to Belas Knap and then back on the Winchcombe Way, which was great. We're glad we rented this unit rather than the Gate House as this felt like it had more privacy. Highly recommended.

Beautiful cottage with own small decking area outside. Very clean and well maintained. Surprisingly warm and modern inside but with the character you would expect. Big wooden beams along with a rain shower! Perfect for our family of 3. Location excellent with footpaths into the town and only 5 or 10 minutes away (although worth noting quite a steep hill) Some great antique shops and a Nisa local for shopping. Lovely walk through the field in front of the decking to Sudeley Castle which is free for cottage renters. We had a fantastic and peaceful stay and would return again.

We arrived on Saturday afternoon. As we tried to put the code number in the lock one of the number stuck. We called few times the mobile emergency number which was given by the booking office. It rang and kept on getting disconnected. I called their other mobile number few times and kept on leaving messages. Nobody got back to us. I was lucky that my son arrived later on and somehow manged to sort it out and we could get to the room. we were at the cottages for 3 days. Nobody called me back. On the wall in the cottage there is a certificate for the Best Customer service!!!!!!!!!!!!! I wonder if they have actually tested the system before award them the certificate

Great location for the castle and the town.
The location was wonderful.
Do not expect restocking of anything during your stay. It makes travel with children more difficult.
During times of higher heat the bedrooms can become hot and will not cool until late into the night of early morning.
I was not very sure how to contact staff. Not being a custom to touch less stays I was not sure how to best approach issues with our stay.

Really enjoyed our short stay in Prince Rupert cottage
The cottage was lovely, very clean and well presented. We also went up to the castle which we really enjoyed and is included for people staying in the cottages. One downfall personally was when we arrived we were carrying our cases across the car park which is all loose stones and there is a lip across the middle and I tripped going headlong across the stones badly damaging my hand and elbow do please be careful.

Exactly what I wanted
As a long term solo traveler without a car, I look for spaciousness and pleasing accommodations, comfort, close proximity to all necessities, peaceful surroundings, beautiful walks from the doorstep, and good communication with the property. Prince Rupert cottage checked off everything on my list and more.

Experienced the most amazing short break
What a wonderful cottage, stayed at Prince Rupert Sudley Castle, amazing location and amenities in the cottage and what a location, we also had good weather, a real bonus. Worth the wait we had to wait two years due to COVID and a big thank you to Boltholt Retreats for being so flexible we had to re-schedule 4 times as my friend was joining me from Copenhagen. Also booked an extra night so my husband to join me at the end of our stay. We would all definitely go again.

A comfortable cottage and beautiful countryside to enjoy.
Spent a thoroughly enjoyable week at Winchcombe, a great base for walking, lots of lovely walks straight from the cottage, no need to use the car which is always a bonus. The cottage was clean, well presented, the heating worked and there was plenty of hot water and an efficient shower. The kitchen was adequately equipped, no clutter and unnecessary items which can sometimes be the case in holiday cottages, the cooker heated up quickly and cooked food in the expected time. A quiet place to stay, no noise from other guests and no noticeable traffic noise.
Happy to recommend Sudeley Castle Cottages.
Something for the owners to consider is installing an electric vehicle charging point which may broaden the customer base, as far as I could make out the nearest charging point was in Stow at least 20 minutes away. If there are any nearer to the cottages it would be helpful to have this advertised on the website.

Lovely little break. Felt like a little treat.
Lovely little break away from normal routine. We live in Chipping Norton, only 40 minute drive but felt like we were on holiday as country side and castle grounds felt very different. Loved Winchcombe as so historic and classic Cotswold feel. No wonder foreign travellers crave the architectural beauty and rolling countryside. Would like to visit Sudely Castle and grounds in the summer as October viewing was abit dormant but still beautiful.

Very enjoyable stay
We very much enjoyed our time in Prince Rupert, and so did our dog! There could have been more kitchen utensils, kitchen cleaning equipment (such as a scourer and washing up brush and more cloths) and a better frying pan, but other than that everything that was provided was good quality.

A charming perfect place
Absolutely wonderful, we enjoyed every minute of our stay. The cottage is in a ideal location for walkiing the beautiful areas in the Cotswolds.
The cottage was clean and welcoming plus very well equipped, especially the kitchen. The space in the cottage was a good size with a excellent bathroom and shower.
Overall the cottage is of a high-quality and a perfect place to stay.

Lovely week
Nice week in Winchcombe.
Accommodation smaller than I had anticipated but I am 6’5”.
Great walk for the dog access into the caste grounds is lovely.
Choice of food in Winchcombe is superb.
Daughter loved the free hot chocolate - thank-you.
My only concern would be sectioning off the decking area to allow dogs outside while owners relax on the decking also.
Would definitely return.

Another enjoyable stay
We really like the Cotswolds - lots to see and do, and whenever we visit we stay at Sudeley Cottages as they are so convenient and the accommodation and facilities are of a high standard; free entry to the castle and gardens is also a welcome bonus as they are beautifully maintained.

Great location, well appointed. Don't miss the beautiful Sudeley Castle and the foodie delights of Winchcombe. Perfect for hikers and history lovers.

Great place - excellent location
We were on a walking holiday with the dog and it was way too hot for him so we ended up sightseeing and spending a lot of time eating in the local establishments - all of which accepted dogs. Beautiful area, the cottage is in a perfect location very easily walkable to Sudeley Castle and the middle of Winchcombe. The staff on site could not have been more helpful finding two fans for us in the heatwave. Accommodation was compact but perfect for two adults - some nicer outsider furniture would have been a bonus. There was lots of added extras inside including tea, coffee and chocolate pods for the machine, shampoos and shower gels, welcome pack for the dog!

Perfect place
Me, my husband and 7 month old baby had a wonderful stay in this cottage. It was perfect location for exploring the area. It had everything we needed and more. We were very warm during the night so bring a fan if you tend to get warm and visit during warm weather. Highly recommend and would stay again. Very professional, thank you!

Very good standard
We booked 2 cottages for a family break combined with Giffords Circus. The accommodation and facilities are faultless and the location is just perfect with access the Sudeley Castle grounds and a quick walk to Winchcombe village with its shops, pubs and restaurants. We couldn’t ask for anything more.

Would return BUT
Lovely place to stay with Winchcombe an excellent town and base.
Found the stairs outside quite hard and when the temperature dipped the heating did not come on (set at 28! whatever that might mean)
Thought the place was a bit high tech-3 remote controls for TV seemed a bit incomprehensible

Spotlessly clean
Had a 2 day break in this lovely little cottage. Location is fabulous, nice and quiet but only 5 mins walk into Winchcombe, which has some lovely shops and restaurants / pubs. The property had everything we need, including a welcome tray and fantastic towels and toiletries. Plenty of parking and just down the road from Sudeley castle, which is well work a visit.

Well equipped for all your needs
Stunning scenery and tranquil setting. Cottage is very well maintained minus the creaking floorboards! Facilities and utensils are well thought out for self catered meals. Slightly pricey but redeemed by the free entry into the castle grounds which is well worth a visit. Ideal location for dogs and anyone doing the Cotswolds Maverick trail race series!!
