About this cottage rental

This apartment cottage is named after Prince Rupert of the Rhine, a nephew of King Charles I, who commanded the Royalist cavalry during the English Civil War and made Sudeley his headquarters.
The entrance to the apartment is via one of two outdoor staircases (at each end of the Old Forge) and the shared decking area, which faces a pretty lawn and the footpath to Sudeley Castle.
The first floor has a bright and light open plan living area, dining area and fully equipped kitchen overlooking the main courtyard. A pretty, divided staircase leads up to the double bedroom and family bathroom to the left and the single bedroom (with under-eaves space for a ‘folding' bed) to the right.

Note: the three Old Forge apartment cottages have restricted headroom in parts of the bedrooms and landing areas due to the original oak beams and A-frame structure.

Ground Floor
The living/Dining/Kitchen area is open-plan.
Stepping into the dining area from the decking and outside seating area, you'll immediately be struck by the light and airy feel of this apartment cottage.

Dining Area:
The dining area is furnished with a round, oak dining table and chairs to comfortably accommodate 4 guests.

Kitchen:
The fully equipped kitchen, overlooking the main courtyard, has a country-cottage feel, with fresh off-white coloured and wooden work surfaces. The kitchen has all the appliances, cookware, crockery and glassware you need for a self-catering holiday, including a, oven/hob, fridge/freezer, microwave, dishwasher, toaster, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine and a washer-dryer. (See ‘Facilities' above for further details.) A welcome pack of teabags, Nespresso coffee pods, hot chocolate, milk, biscuits, jam/honey mini pots, boiled sweets are provided for your first day at the Cottage.

Sitting Room:
A comfortable sofa, sink-in armchair with a footstool provide plenty of seating for 4 in the carpeted living area. In addition, the living area is furnished with an oak coffee table, occasional tables, a Freeview TV and DVD player. An understair cupboard in the living room houses a travel cot, stair gate, highchair, iron, ironing board, airer, as well as the Welcome Dog Basket (with stainless steel bowl and blanket).

First Floor
There is a divided staircase to reach the first floor.

Bedroom One:
The master bedroom is furnished with an oak frame standard double bed, small chest of drawers, bedside tables and individual overbed lights with reading and room lighting. This dual aspect bedroom, with windows to the front and back, has a small hanging cupboard and hooks to store guests' clothing.

Bedroom Two:
Furnished with an oak frame single bed, bedside table and individual overbed light with reading and room lighting, this is a cosy bedroom with views to the rear over the garden and decking area. Hooks in the main bedroom area are provided for hanging clothes, while an under-the-eaves extension off the main sleeping area houses a chest of drawers and hanging hooks.

Family Bathroom:
Adjacent to Bedroom 2 is the family bathroom, with a large walk-in shower (with a fixed over-head rain shower and detachable handheld showerhead) toilet, sink with shaver unit and heated towel rail.

Outside
Guests of Prince Rupert share a lovely wooden decking area (with the George III and Prince Rupert apartments) that looks out over a communal garden lawn and a footpath that leads to Sudeley Castle. Each apartment has its own private seating area with a table and chairs for 4 guests.

An ideal property for a couple or a small family. It was very clean and had all amenities especially in the kitchen. It is an old building and that constrains the layout. So people need to be aware that the bedrooms are both small, with little headroom and little storage space. But that is also part of the charm. It is very close to shops and pubs etc. but far enough away to be quiet. Parking was easy. Sudeley castle is a must see, but there are plenty of other things to do in the area. We did some lovely walks straight from the front door.

Just a couple of points, not criticisms but it would have been useful to know: To access the cottage there are quite a few steps and I'm not sure that we were made aware of this? Unfortunately every area of the country has different rules regarding household waste and recyling. It would have been useful to have had some guidance in the cottage itself so that we could comply.

Beautiful Cotswold cottage in an amazing location. Exactly right for our visit 'back home'. We hardly needed to use the car. It's location on the edge of Winchcombe meant walking into town and into Sudeley Castle was easy, to say nothing of countryside walks. If you're looking for a genuinely peaceful location in a gorgeous setting look no further. The only slight niggle was the toaster didn't work - it blew the electrics each time we tried. I reported it but it wasn't changed for the following day. We used the oven grill instead so no biggie.

Prince Rupert Cottage turned out to be the ideal choice for a long weekend in the heart of the Cotswold countryside. Just a short stroll from Winchcombe's charming high street and town centre, the property is ideally located for exploring the local area. There are some lovely walking routes nearby, including the public footpaths surrounding the house and grounds of the Sudeley estate (to which guests staying at the cottage are granted free admission). Winchcombe is home to some very nice shops and eateries, and there is also the regular 'W' bus service to Cheltenham which departs from the war memorial bus stop just a short distance from the top of Castle Street. It's perhaps worth bearing in mind that the walk up to the high street involves scaling a bit of a hill towards the upper end of Castle Street. The cottage itself is also accessed via a series of ascending and descending stone steps, as well as a number of additional wooden steps which lead up to the entrance of the property. The cottage is very clean, comfortable and well equipped. Given the age of the property, some of the upstairs floorboards tend to be rather creaky in places, and the low ceiling beams mean having to be a bit careful when accessing one or two of the nooks and crannies in the bedrooms. Unfortunately, the pine chest of drawers in the single room was damaged to the point of being unusable at the time of our visit (October 2023) - an issue which can hopefully soon be resolved. Overall, a very pleasant and relaxing place to stay.

The cottage is extremely comfortable, beautifully furnished and VERY fully equipped. Such a great place to stay in the centre of Winchcombe and with free access to the wonderful Sudeley Castle. Lovely pubs, cafes, delis etc. in short walking distance. We recommend 'The Corner Cupboard' and 'William's' in particular. It's worth checking in advance what's open on different days of the week, though, especially out of summer season. Sudeley castle is amazing. It's really worth timing your visit to hear the talk, as it gives you so much background with which to explore the castle. Take a picnic!

The cottage was absolutely lovely, cute but also very comfy. Further everything you needed was provided. We felt very lucky to stay in this cosy perfect cottage and would always come back to it.Being able to visit Sudeley Castle during our stay without paying was a nice surprise. The pubs in Winchcombe are very open to visitors so that we had several chatty evenings. We recommend the White Heart Inn for its food, its ales and of course for its top atmosphere.
