This lovely hacienda truly was the peaceful getaway we were looking for. The home is exactly as advertised and was perfect for our family of 5. The furniture is comfy, the kitchen has everything we needed, and the option to sit and enjoy the perfect Santa Fe summer weather on either the front porch or in the private courtyard off of the kitchen was magical. We had views of double rainbows 2 evenings in a row. The neighborhood is charming, we enjoyed nightly strolls. Everything in Santa Fe is easy to get to, especially compared to being used to driving all over the Houston area, but this home is only a few minutes from the Plaza so it's super convenient to pop over when you want to but then be able to get home to a quiet neighborhood. Parking around the plaza can be a challenge but the trick is to park in the metered spots in front of the Bataan Memorial Building and then just walk the couple of blocks to the shops. The history of the hacienda and what Karen and her family have done to maintain it's charm is fascinating. We had the opportunity to meet Karen when she came to roll the trash cans out to the street and she was such a warm and kind human being. She lives at the back of the property but we never really knew that because she gives space and privacy, we only got lucky enough to meet her because of the timing of trash day. We had a lovely conversation and we were happy we got the chance to put a face to the name, she was super easy to interact with. Highly recommend!

Nice property in a quiet part of Santa Fe. Good access to main roads. Window unit air conditioners in most of rooms was a nice adder given that many older houses in northern NM don't have them. Not always necessary but nice to dry the air when it is warm and after it rains.

We traveled with our adult sons and daughter and this house was just right for our needs. It’s in a good neighborhood and we all felt comfortable there. We briefly met the host and she was friendly and accommodating.

Listing is accurate. Nice house for a family. Went on Spring Break and enjoyed time in Sante Fe including skiing on nearby mountain.

This home was perfect for our family's Spring Break getaway.. It is conveniently located with easy access to both the Santa Fe Plaza and Canyon Road. Kitchen was very sell supplied - we didn't want for a thing. Definitely recommend this house and its owner.

This house was perfect for our family trip from Indiana ! We had 5 adults traveling together and this place had lots of room. We also hosted a dinner for family who live in Santa Fe and all easily fit around the dining table. We had everything we needed and having the extra things in the kitchen like spices and condiments was very helpful. The location was good for us but it wasn’t within walking distance of the Plaza or anything really. We didn’t need that so it was not a big deal for us. There was grocery, shopping, and the Plaza within a short drive. And the interstate was close too. We’d definitely rent again if we come back with a larger group!

Perfect Stay!
Our friend group of seven loved the house and the roominess. It was the perfect size for a larger group. We all had plenty of room and we’re very satisfied with all the amenities. The location was perfect for getting to slopes. Karen was also amazing. She answered all questions and was super helpful. We would stay here again.

Perfect spot for “girls” reunion
We are four friends who met 40 years ago when our kids were babies. This was a perfect spot for our periodic reunion: morning coffee on the patio, great location for sightseeing, comfortable beds for siestas and at night. We were totally happy with the hacienda.

Okay if you're not picky or expect much. Bad mattress, mouse bait in beds, plumbing issues, etc.
We booked for a month. It is in an ideal neighborhood and has great parking. The inside of the house has issues. Within 5 days of arriving, the plumbing backed up and dumped black sludge in the tubs, so we all had to pack bags and go check into 3 hotel rooms up the street for 2 nights (which the owner reimbursed us for). We learned that the plumbing is a recurring problem there. We found little round green pellets in 3 of the beds, which we thought were laundry beads or something because they were under the pillows and in the sheets. It turns out they were mouse poison. The mattress in the master bedroom was not a mattress, but instead was a piece of yellow industrial packing foam with a dirty foam topper and a thin cotton mattress cover. We didn't find this out until near the end of our stay when I decided to wash the sheets. We have photos of the "mattress," mouse poison and other surprises, but there’s nowhere to upload them here. The washer doesn't work well. The stove is ancient and doesn't have a working light or fan. There were burnt-out bulbs and dirty doormats. Someone else's perishables were in the fridge when we arrived, which is fine for dry goods, but not milks and cheeses during a pandemic.
We have communicated with the owner since leaving, and she feels that we did not communicate the issues to her in a timely fashion so that she might address them. For the first couple of weeks after we arrived we just couldn't be bothered to deal with little annoyances; we were there to work (even the plumbing fiasco we took in stride). The VRBO listing advertised the kiva fireplace, but the handbook inside the house said do NOT use it. Later, the owner said we could have used it and should have asked her, and that she needed to update the handbook. Why would we ask to use it when the house rule book said not to? We just didn't want to take the time or effort to complain, and so we went about our business.
However, when near the end we discovered the "mattress" was actually 2 dirty pieces of foam and that the laundry beads were actually rodent poison, then we finally cared enough to care. So rather than furiously call the owner and demand things like mattresses and explanations, we checked out early and left that place behind us.

Great House in Santa Fe
Very convenient location, easy access to Trader Joe's for groceries, and Maria's Mexican Food (yum!). One of the most well-equipped kitchens I have ever found in a VRBO rental. We enjoyed the front porch chairs in the evening (watching the monsoon rains, beautiful clouds) and the patio table in the back in the mornings. The house offers everything you need to be comfortable, and good wifi also. Owner communicated well.

Good time, however...
Overall it was a cute house in a nice area and we enjoyed our stay, but there were some minor issues that came up during our vacation. The common areas were very nice, comfortable, and clean, but the master bed was very uncomfortable and I had issues sleeping on it. It was so hard I felt like I was sleeping on the floor of a cave in Bandelier National Monument (beautiful, by the way). Although the house was nice, we feel it should have been disclosed on the listing that it was a duplex shared with the owner. We didn't hear any noise from her side and only saw her once, so it didn't end up an issue. The fridge was broken during our stay, which was not the owner's fault, but her solution was to put a mini fridge on the patio which was almost full with her food. This meant we could not really utilize the kitchen and we feel the owner should have offered us a discount for the inconvenience. It's a very beautiful home and you can tell the owner has a lot of pride in the ownership.

Our 'Second Home'
Comfortable & convenient, bright & inviting, Hacienda de Encina makes visiting Santa Fe even more wonderful than it already is! My friends and I have enjoyed staying here for the second year in a row while attending the International Folk Art Festival in July. The house is just Perfect for us: it's in a very quiet residential neighborhood only five minutes by car from downtown. Stocked with every convenience imaginable, it offers a large 'homey' kitchen, sufficient bedrooms and living space for four gals to spread out & yet have privacy if desired. And it's SO comfortable. The chairs & big leather couch in the living room beg for extended lounging.
We particularly enjoy early mornings on the lovely private patio. Serenaded by bird song & enveloped by the marvelous fragrance of fresh piñon, our casual al-fresco breakfasts were a truly magical way to begin each day.
Hacienda de Encina has become an integral component in the overall enjoyment of our Santa Fe vacation. We very much look forward to returning again next year & hopefully each year thereafter.
Thank you Karen for making your lovely home—our home.

Beautiful home and very comfortable for multiple guests.

Comfortable and quiet
Comfortable home in a quiet neighborhood. We used all the beds with our group of ladies and we found them very comfortable. Convenient to have the washer and dryer in the master bathroom closet. There is a nice, small, enclosed porch and back yard as well as a roomy front yard if you have children in your group. Karen was very responsive and we recommend her nice home. It would be especially ideal for families.

Comfortable and relaxing
My family (two adults, two teens) stayed here for a week in late July/early August. The house is large, comfortably furnished, and in a quiet neighborhood. Wonderfully welcoming touches by the host included a few stocked food items (scones, bananas, milk, half-and-half + others). The back porch, which is right off the kitchen, is shaded and breezy. We enjoyed coffee out there every morning. Two coffee makers (regular and Keurig), a well stocked kitchen (pots, etc.), plenty of linens for the bathrooms, and a washer and dryer helped make this an easy week. The house is about a mile from the plaza (straight shot on Gallisteo or Don Gaspar) and very close to Upper Canyon Road, which leads to some good hiking trails at Cerro Gordo. We found Santa Fe to be a nicely central point for many activities including horseback riding at Broken Saddle (on the way to Albuquerque), rafting with Cottom Outfitters at the Rio Grande Gorge (on the way to Taos), and hiking at Tent Rocks and Bandelier. The house is within walking distance to Trader Joe's and CVS and a very quick drive to Whole Foods. Highly recommend!

Wonderful host, wonderful time! Clean, extremely well-equipped, and very comfortable. We had space for everything and loved coming home after a long day. Only concern - like many homes in area, there is no central air (host had a portable unit in living room which was nice). We had record (99 one day) heat and we all had trouble sleeping.
