WHAT IS SPECIAL ABOUT WATAUGA LAKE AREA?
Watauga Lake is the 3rd cleanest lake in the country and surely one of the most beautiful. There are beautiful mountains surrounding it and more than half of Watauga Lake's shoreline of 105 miles lies within the Cherokee National Forest and cannot be developed. Often you can view the local Bald Eagles that soar the lake. Recreational uses include boating, fishing, jet skis, wake boarding, tubing, water-skiing, swimming, camping, etc. Fish species include Lake Trout, Rainbow Trout, Walleye, both Large Mouth and Small Mouth Bass, Crappie, Fresh Water Drum and Catfish.
Close by to the Ranch House you can take many day trips like hiking to favorite spots. Some local favorites are Grandfather Mountain, the Appalachian trail on Roan Mountain, and Linville Falls. If Fly Fishing interests you, the Watauga River and the South Holston Rivers are close by with world class trout fishing. We are also close to some great whitewater rafting, kayaking and tubing rivers as well. If touring a winery is of interest you will only be 11 miles from Watauga Lake Winery. Boone is the home of Appalachian State University which brings lots of fun to the area. ASU Football, concerts and local Breweries just to name a few. Another huge draw to the area is the proximity to the Bristol Motor Speedway. Everyone who likes racing loves the "Fastest Mile in Racing" which is the Food City 300.
We are located around 2000 Ft in elevation so you can expect cool mountain temps with a gentle breeze. Autumn brings beautiful fall colors with even better views. In the winter time, skiing and snow boarding are enjoyed at nearby Sugar and Beech Mountain.

This place was so cool! It was tucked away in the mountains with beautiful views everywhere you looked. We didn't want to leave the porch. The host could be more accommodating and friendly. I would recommend this place to anyone and give it 5 out of 5 stars.

This is the perfect property if you want to get away and unwind… coffee every morning with the mountains in the background… fishing, swimming & boating on nearby Watauga lake…. The owners were awesome, brought us a brand new grill to cook on when the other one went out… left us kayak’s & canoes to use for our stay…. The house is just as pictured… every Home convenience that you would need… very clean!!….. more than enough room for everyone to either be together or go chill separately… only FYI that I have is definitely go to the store before you get to the house… things are a bit out and after driving all day… I had to get back out and drive for another 30 mins to a store…lol… so definitely get what you need on your way in… owners are super easy to get in touch with if you’re in need of anything…. And I really can’t stress enough how clean this property is… my family and I use vrbo all the time to vaca… I typically feel like I have to wipe things down or I don’t feel comfortable getting in the bed’s because the sheets don’t always look clean…. Didn’t feel that way at all at this property… was able to come right in and relax… 100% recommend staying here…. Talked to several neighbors in the area and they were all really nice too!!

House was comfortable and clean. Everything was straightforward and easy. We thoroughly enjoyed it!
Everything was great! My only recommendation would be to spray regularly as we saw several different bugs inside the home.

Mountain Retreat
We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay on this property. Communications were timely and thoughtful with the property manager. The house was very clean and well stocked with essentials and was comfortable and roomy. I appreciated not having to bring extras or shop once we got here. I was able to link up my phone to the wi-fi and laptop to the internet. Cable TV and Netflix worked great.
This home is situated in a charming pastoral setting. We were invited to pet the horses! It was a real treat to have evening sunsets on the porch looking at the Blue Ridge Mountains and morning coffee and breakfast in the screened porch looking at the well groomed grounds and barn. Sadly we did not have a chance to get down to the lake access point. I hope we will be able to the next time.

Beautiful property!
We really enjoyed our time at this house. The location and views were absolutely breathtaking. We went at the end of October when the leaves were looking lovely for the fall. We walked around the property and it was gorgeous! The house is was perfect for the 4 adults and 6 children. Kids had a lot of space to play. The house is well equipped with the basic things you need which was great! Very clean and organized. 30 minutes from most shopping and gas locations so make sure you have enough gas to get you to and from. Overall it was a wonderful experience!

This is far from our normal lives. Very little cell service, small farms surrounding, quiet area (minus a few animal noises) and lake super close! Clearest lake I have EVER seen! We canoed our way through the cove and surrounding area. We found a spot to jump off rocks into the water. That was a HUGE hit with all the kids! When we realize that we forgot to pack our fishing poles the owner loaned us a few. Fishing was relaxing because the lake was so quiet. Even our 18 year old who doesn't like to fish enjoyed those 2 hours on the lake, napping in his small boat. When we were not on the lake, there was plenty of outdoor space for sports and games. We enjoyed the fire pit dinner and smores. The horses outback were a HUGE hit with our girl! Overall, we would definitely recommend this getaway. ( Our children are already planning a trip back!)

A nice home
House was clean, spacious and well appointed. The boat dock was nice and the canoes and kayaks made it easy to enjoy the lake. Owners came by to give us a lantern when the power went out due to a storm. It was no biggie because we were enjoying watching the rain storm from the porch. Thanks!

House is beautiful, neighborhood not so much
Once you are actually at the house it’s beautiful, as long as you only look towards the back and far side of the house. This is by far the nicest house in the area and it’s a little disheartening to travel to and from The house having to pass by so much littering on the other properties. The cell service was very poor making it hard to contact the owners with any issues as well as to keep in touch with any family members who had gone into the ski resorts. But like I said the actual house is beautiful and spacious. We had a large family and enough room to spread out. Some of the light bulbs were burnt out but we managed and the kids loved hearing and seeing all the cows that surround the property. We took several hikes around the area and it was nice to see the kids outside off there technology. It wasn’t that far of a drive to the slopes and we enjoyed day trips to the lake and winery close by.

Very spacious and clean!
We had a lovely stay for a few days after Christmas. The property is not too far from Boone, Blowing Rock, or Sugar and Beech Mountains. Just over the TN border. Lots of space for a large family or group. Nice washer and dryer, fireplace, fire pit, TV, and overall very comfortable. Mattresses could be replaced or at least have new toppers added...very firm. This is the nicest house on the street. Overall very nice stay.

Great Getaway!
We had a wonderful weekend at Watauga Lake staying here at this country home.
It was very roomy and all 9 of the adults we had in our group had plenty of personal space as well as big enough spaces for all of us to hangout in the living room and dining room.
Although we spent most of our time hanging out on the back deck that is surrounded by sliding glass doors. We went in the end of August and enjoyed the beautiful 85 degree weather during the day and the 60-65 weather at night.
We had a great time on the lake and using the kayaks and canoes that Judson had let us use during our stay.
Definitely recommend anyone to rent this property for a relaxing weekend out in the beautiful Watauga Area!

Peaceful getaway in the country near Watauga Lake
My family and I absolutely LOVED staying here! This place was perfect for a family get together, which provided everything we needed to relax and enjoy our time together. The kitchen is very well-equipped for a large group, having two stoves, plenty of dishes, and a grill; the dining room, sun-room and deck all provided a nice place to sit down and eat. The house was exceptionally clean, and nicely decorated. With four bedrooms, living room and downstairs tv-room there was plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable. I most enjoyed the location of this rental, situated way out in the country in a beautiful, peaceful setting which made it the perfect getaway spot, in addition the house is less than a mile away from Watauga Lake! Judson gave us access to the private boat ramp and brought us two kayaks and two canoes with 6 life jackets to use. The private boat ramp was convenient because when we rented a boat we were able to just pick everyone up right down from the house, instead of having to drive everyone out to the marina. The side deck on the house was a great spot for watching sunset and there was a nice fire pit with plenty of wood and chairs. This is truly a beautiful piece of property, we did family photos in the back yard and in front of the red barn and they turned out wonderful! I definitely recommend this rental, we hope to return next summer!

Wonderful Mountain/Lake Retreat - Perfect Place to Unplug and Relax
Highly recommend this home - it is very clean and spacious. An excellent location with mountain views, lake access, hiking trails and waterfalls nearby.
Judson has excellent communication and made sure we had everything we needed including rentals of kayaks, canoes, and fishing poles. This lovely home was perfect - we thoroughly enjoyed cooking on the grill, talking around the fire pit, and observing the beautiful nature and wildlife from the one of a kind custom deck.
Great owners and great place. Looking forward to returning already!
