About this house rental
A short drive from Bar Harbor and a 5 minute walk to the sea, our cottage lets you enjoy the Maine countryside as well as the scenic shoreline. Relax on the deck, swim, antique, hike, and take in the charm of coastal Maine from our cozy home.
Our delightful, spacious, four-season cottage comfortably sleeps up to five people; there are two bedrooms, one on each floor of the house, both with queen-size beds. All bed linens are provided. There is also a separate loft area with a twin bed. Both bedrooms have closets and ample room for storage. The ground floor of our home features an open-concept dining area, living area, and kitchen, with french doors that let in lots of light. These open up to a large deck where guests can dine, grill, and relax. The kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher, coffeemaker, refrigerator and microwave. There are three full bathrooms, one on the first floor, one on the second floor, and one in the basement. The basement and second floor bath have showers, and the first floor features a large, convenient bathtub. Towels, hairdryer, shampoo and soap provided. Free Wifi is available.
The cottage is located on an acre of private land and is situated between a lush forest and an open meadow. We have a large and grassy front yard and back yard, as well as a deck and a patio area (with a grill) for enjoying the outdoors.
Our cottage is just a quick walk to the shore and the forest, and a short drive to many local sites and activities. We recommend having a car at your disposal.
I or my associate will meet you upon arrival to welcome you, show you the cottage, and give a short orientation to the area. At times, as I live quite a distance from Surry, I will be unable to greet guests personally. In these instances, one of my dear friends and associates (a neighbor and long-time resident of Surry) will meet you and introduce you to our cottage. We are all happy to provide information about Surry, the surrounding towns, and other area attractions. Guests will have access to us via phone and email throughout the duration of their stay so that we can answer any questions and help with whatever you need.

This is the fourth year in a row that we have rented the cottage, and we are looking forward to our visit here in 2025.
We can't prove it, but we think the hummingbirds that come to the feeders recognize us.

Barbara’s cottage was perfect for our week away. The location was ideal, allowing us to easily explore Acadia, as well as Ellsworth and Deer Isle, while also being a little remote and an easy walk to a quiet “beach.” The cottage was clean and bright, with everything we needed for the week. The property manager was just a text away if had needed anything. We had daily visitors from deer and birds, which was wonderful. Would definitely stay again!

This is a beautiful home in every way. Rustic yet modern decor. Wonderful amenities, including every conceivable kitchen appliance, utensil, dishware. Lovely deck, overlooking a trimmed lawn and natural field and trees. Super comfortable beds and charming bedrooms. Close to a lovely walking trail and not from a big supermarket in charming Blue Hills. And a super responsive property manager.

We had a wonderful time staying in Julia's Cabin. It was about 45 minutes to get to the Acadia and Bar Harbor area. Cabin was clean, had plenty of towels, kitchen was well stocked, and communication with the property owner and/or property manager was great. Check in was easy as the keys are in a lockbox at the property with a code provided a couple of days prior to our arrival. Surrounding area was quite nice with a nature area that has a trail to one of the bay areas really close by. If you don't mind a bit of a drive to Acadia, I highly recommend this cabin!

We really enjoyed our stay in in this wonderful cottage. It was spotless and comfortable and in a beautiful, quiet spot, a short walk to a preserve with awesome water views from the trail. The host and caretaker each communicated regularly to make sure all was well. A great place.

This was the third time my wife and I stayed at Barbara's cottage in Surry. It's a great place to relax and enjoy the so-called simple things: clean air, starry skies and the hummingbirds who zip around the two feeders.

This home is wonderful. It is cozy and clean and has everything you need. Great location for day trips to Acadia and Bar Harbor.

This house was wonderful and we had everything we needed to feel right at home. The kitchen was well equipped so we could make our meals when we wanted and the washer and dryer was huge benefit as well.
We really enjoyed the hummingbirds that came to visit everyday. The checkin process was really easy and communication with the rental manager was prompt if there was anything we might of needed.
We would definitely return.

Rolled in on a rainy, cool, windy day. The house was nice and cozy. We hiked different trails throughout the area. When we would return we'd boil losters and grill steaks on the grill. Got the lobster while in Stonington and Winter Harbor. Steaks were from Barefoot farms in Hancock. Drove up to Lubec and Quoddy Head State Park and hiked. Always reassuring to come back to a relaxing layed back atmosphere at the house. We enjoyed our stay in Surry and would encourage anyone looking for some quiet time to check out this property. Definitely a good time. Thank you

Very clean and comfortable cottage with well equipped kitchen and plenty of space to relax. Just a short walk from a pretty nature preserve and centrally located for exploring the area. Enjoyed our stay immensely and appreciated our host's flexibility.

We had a wonderful month at this peaceful, pleasant, and convenient cottage. We were able to explore Bar Harbor, Castine, and Stonington from this well-located home.
Both the owner and the property manager were very easy to work with.
I highly recommend this cottage.

This was the second year we stayed here, and we plan to come again. The house is well-stocked and well-maintained. We particularly enjoy sitting on the porch watching the hummingbirds that zoom in and out at the feeders.

I agree with all of the previous reviews. The house is immaculate and beautifully decorated. Barbara has considered every detail.
We loved staying here; the property is lovely!
We went to Acadia and Ellsworth several times; visited Blue Hill, and explored the immediate area.
Barbara and Andy responded immediately to any questions we had.
Tried many lobster rolls and the consensus was that Perry's was the best. And it's BYOB!

This house is very nice. It is well organized and homey and warm. We felt like houseguests to a friend. We loved how the pots and pans weren’t Teflon and the TV had actual TV as well as the Roku stuff. There were ladybugs in the house for winter and wild turkeys and deer outside the windows, almost a magical quality.

We combined business and leisure; this was the perfect spot! The WiFi is very adequate for business and the location has nearby trails to walk and a deck that’s great for relaxing. Cottage includes a well-equipped kitchen, comfortable bed, and easy to use washer/dryer. There is a meadow and woods just beyond the lawn which was ideal for bird and wildlife. We enjoyed watching the deer that visited most days. Each day we drove into Acadia NP. Nearby is a wonderful place for lobster rolls and Ellsworth has a great cafe (Flexit Cafe) plus other choices. We were very happy with our choice.

Host communication helpful and prompt. Property clean, well stocked and in good repair. We spent most of our time exploring Mt Desert Island (future guests don't ignore the "quiet side" of the island with a couple of wonderful costal villages). We took one day to go to Ft Knox, the Penobscot Narrows bridge, the little town of Bucksport and then drove through Blue Hill on across Deer Isle to the charming coastal town of Stonington (day highly recommended). Felt like a good snapshot of costal Maine. We recommend Barbara and her place as base camp for some fun exploration. Thanks, Barbara, from Wes for the gang.

We had an amazing stay! This is a beautiful cottage in the quaint town of Surry. It was a great local spot that we used as home base to visit Acadia National Park as well as some of the local surrounding towns. Plenty of room for two couples or a family to stay. Could not have asked for anything better!

Excellent communication with owner and property manager. Extremely clean and well equipped property. Central location for exploring Blue Hill, Deer Isle and even Acadia. Great restaurant selection in Ellsworth. Nice trail in Carter Nature Preserve minutes away for a walk or run.

It was everything the listing said and more. The neighbors were friendly and invited us to a jazz concert in The Arts Barn next door. Everyone was so friendly. Barbara (owner) and Andy (caretaker) were ever so helpful. I would wholeheartedly recommend this property.

The property is exactly as the pictures depict, exceptionally clean, well maintained and a perfect place for a nice getaway. It is far enough away from the fast pace of the Bar Harbor/Acadia area but close enough for convenience. Although Barbara was out of country, her friend Mary met us at the house when we arrived. A wonderful host, she gave us a complete walk through of the house and made sure we were comfortable with everything. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

We had a wonderful stay at Barbara's cottage. It's picturesque setting with a view of Cadillac Mountain and humming birds visiting feeders on the deck was perfect for our vacation week. The cottage itself is adorable with beautiful pine floors and accents that give a warm feeling of relaxed rustic living. So grateful we found this gem. Thank you!
