About this house rental

Renowned as one of the finest market towns in the Cotswolds, Chipping Campden is instantly recognisable by its beautiful limestone townhouses which frame the iconic High Street. No prettier an example is Singer House; an elegant, ivy-strewn two-story townhouse neatly nestled in the heart of the town, just a stone's throw from the famous ‘Wool Church.' A real home away from home, it's easy to see why Singer House sees the same guests returning year after year to soak in its surroundings.

Sleeping up to six guests across three beautifully appointed bedrooms, each of which is charmingly decorated in its own individual style, Singer House is the perfect choice for families, couples, or small groups in search of a relaxing escape with everything you could need on the doorstep. Magazine-worthy interiors expertly blend the period with the contemporary for a distinctly boutique feel, with a wonderfully large sitting room, open-plan kitchen/diner, and separate dining room affording guests plenty of space within which to unwind.

Best of all, the kitchen's stunning glass doorway hides one of the prettiest courtyard gardens that you're ever likely to see; a private little hideaway from the hubbub of the High Street, framed by Cotswold-stone walls and lush topiary at every corner. A real suntrap no matter what the season, it's the perfect spot to unwind with a sundowner or enjoy a feast courtesy of the firepit BBQ; if the many foodie haunts of Chipping Campden can't tempt you away, that is.
Expertly blending the period with the contemporary, the real beauty of this townhouse lies behind its Cotswold stone exteriors. Stepping inside from the High Street directly into the soft lighting of the flagstone-floored hallway, you'll immediately get a sense of the townhouse's history; charming nods to years gone by evident in the ironwork lamps, period artwork, and decorative hunting paraphernalia adorning the walls. To the hallway's right-hand side sits a show-stopping sitting room. A real masterpiece of refinement, this elegant retreat overlooks Chipping Campden's High Street through shuttered bay windows, boasting sumptuous cream sofas, bookcase-lined walls, traditional period artwork, and tasteful antique furniture, plus a huge central open fire for cosy nights in.

Following on at the end of the hallway, you'll find a spacious kitchen/diner, plus a compact but very well-equipped utility room complete with a hidden WC. Modern and traditional in equal measure, the attractive shaker-style kitchen is flooded with natural light thanks to a stunning glass extension, opening-up directly into its hidden courtyard garden. For relaxed dining, a rustic banquette dining table in the kitchen is the perfect spot, with a handsome formal dining room found to the rear of the house.

Upstairs, three generous bedrooms offer an elegant space for up to six guests to rest their heads. The first, found just at the top of the staircase, is the embodiment of Cotswold-chic; country-grey hues adorning the walls, a dainty glass chandelier hanging between exposed beams over an antique French double bed. Next to the home's family bathroom sits bedroom two, completely different in style thanks to the framed artwork of musicians from years gone by covering the walls, plus a glass Juliet balcony overlooking the courtyard garden. The large master of the house is a nod to turn-of-the-century luxury, boasting high ceilings, a separate seating area around a beautiful marble fireplace, huge picture windows overlooking the High Street below, and its own in-room roll-top bath. A sleek en-suite affords the space with even more privacy, making it the perfect room for romantics in search of R&R.

*Dogs: 3 well-behaved dogs are welcome at the cottage at an additional cost each. Please let us know if you will be bringing a dog and we will then revise your booking confirmation. The pet fee is NOT included in your booking fee. A request for an additional fee per pet will be sent to you after you have placed your booking. Lovely house in very pretty town. Furnished with combination of antique and modern furniture, which works well. Plenty of books, DVDs. Beds very comfortable. The kitchen is equipped with everything possibly needed. The courtyard garden is delightful, very private. Restaurants within easy walking distance, and good local delicatessens. The main bedroom is spacious, a huge Gingko tree sits just outside one window, and the other overlooks the pretty garden of the neighbouring house. There is some noise from the road in the local rush hour, but we didn’t find this a problem. There are many wonderful Cotswold villages nearby, plus NT houses/ gardens etc. Recommend Burford Garden Company (great for a wet day, everything you could possibly not need but want!) and Daylesford. Burford is a stunning small town. Tetbury is within an hour’s drive, great for antique shops.

This beautiful house is perfectly located in the beautiful town of Chipping Campden, walking distance to plenty of places to eat and drink and lovely shops to wander around but not as busy as some of the other Cotswolds towns. We enjoyed a lovely circular walk up to Dover Hill which offers fabulous views. The house itself is very traditional in style, is well stocked with everything needed to be self catering if you choose. A gorgeous little courtyard to sit out in at the back enjoys the morning and afternoon sun. Fiona the host was easy to contact and very helpful.

We stayed 3 nights at Singer House and found it to be very comfortable and well placed for exploring Chipping Camden and visiting the wider Cotswolds area. The beds were comfy and the kitchen well equipped. Being April the weather was mixed and quite cold but the house, when the heating was on, was warm and cozy. Little things seemed missing such as a welcome pack. (Usually provided when renting a property in this price range.) There was milk in the fridge but no other basics such as bread, butter, biscuits etc. Also a loo roll holder and shower shelf in the large bedroom en suite would have been useful. The fresh flowers were a nice touch but the silk flowers did seem to be dust magnets. All in all we had a pleasant stay at Singer House and it was a shame we were not able to make use of the lovely outside space due to the weather and time of year.

Singer House is beautiful and different. Lots of room for a family of four plus a dog. The bedding is lovely and beds very comfy. The master bedroom is large and with a bath in it, adds a touch of something a bit different. The house is creaky because it’s an old property, which we loved. We also loved the lounge area with its fire and cosy feel. Perfect for a game of cards. Couldn’t figure out how to use the DVD player though (don’t worry Sky was available)! Fiona the owner was super responsive to a couple of queries. These were fixable with shower heads needing a bit of an extra clean due to limescale build up causing multidirectional showers:) and fires bit too smokey. Only thing Bolthole Retreats needs to do is update its equipment list. There’s no toasty or straighteners as examples. All manageable of course (and Fiona very kindly offered to sort) but we had planned with equipment in mind. Location is fab. Right on the high street. Parking not guaranteed but we always found somewhere close. Would definitely recommend.

Great location. Very English feel. Some very minor maintenance issues, but nothing worth writing about and did not detract from our enjoyment of the lodging. Enjoyed our time there.
