About this apartment rental

Alta Vista is a beautifully restored historical property built in 1931. Constructed of timber, masonry and stucco, it is similar to many buildings in Old Mexico from that time period with it's Colonial style, arched entries, private covered porches and courtyard.

Our family purchased the property in 2003 which had been neglected for many years and began a complete authentic restoration. The structure has been completely renovated and most of the original features preserved including the beautiful oak flooring, exterior masonry and doors.

The property has been modernized to with central air conditioning, on-demand hot water, TV, WI-FI internet and swimming pool.

The kitchens and bathrooms feature beautiful talavera tile and saltillo tile floors which we brought with us from trips to Central Mexico.

This Apartment has two comfortable double beds and all bed tops are freshly laundered before your arrival. You have the convenience of a furnished kitchen.

Outside you will find lush tropical gardens, the courtyard swimming pool, lounge chairs and umbrellas. There is an outside kitchen with a wood burning churrascaria style barbecue, gas grill, and bar.

There is a cool breezeway with rocking chairs for relaxing. The on site laundry room is handy for those on extended stay.

We can offer suggestions for all types of activities, restaurants, directions and points of interest. We know Port Isabel, South Padre Island, and the Rio Grande Valley very well and gladly share our knowledge of the area to enhance your stay.

**IMPORTANT NOTE, PLEASE READ** COLLECTION OF HOTEL/MOTEL (LODGING) CITY TAX

As of April 1, 2019, Homeaway was advised that they can no longer collect the lodging tax imposed by the city, however, they are working on getting this issue resolved as quickly as possible. There has always been a mandatory collection of 12% Hotel Occupancy tax, for both state and the city of Port Isabel. We, as the host, must still collect the city of Port Isabel's 6% and remit that to the city for each rental, as before, but we must do it with a separate invoice generated after the booking. You will receive this payment request/invoice after you have booked. It isn't costing you more than before. This is what has always been collected but we just have to do it differently now, until they have this resolved. We apologize for this inconvenience.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Alta Vista apartments. The charming decor harkens back to old Mexico. Great color choices. The apartment was well appointed and very comfortable. It might benefit from a brighter bedside lamp or by adding another lamp but that's a minor detail. The pool area was very clean and adorned with beautiful potted plants. The apartments were also very quiet, making for a thoroughly relaxing and enjoyable stay.

My husband and I appreciated all of the colorful decor. Very pleasant to walk out the back door into the beautiful, maintained pool area. Appreciated the cushioned pool chairs and umbrellas for shade. Unit was stocked with all that we needed. We definitely recommend this rental and will come back again.

It was an artistic paradise. Peaceful and lovely. Definitely we highly recommend this location. Very close to SPI and yet offering the charming of Port Isabel. The host was very accessible and helpful. We had a great time.

Such a cute property!

Such a cute property!

Everything about the property was great! The courtyard area was lovely. The pool was warm. We loved our room! So nicely redone! Bed and pillows were very comfy. Beach towels were waiting for us, and plenty of bath towels. The only thing missing was handsoap and a small bar of soap for the shower. It wasn't a big deal or I would've asked or maybe I missed that it wasn't included. Just plan your trips to /from the island and don't forget anything - weekend traffic was crazy getting on /off the island!!!

All I can say is our stay was very relaxing. I really enjoyed the relaxing atmosphere. The rental was very clean and very quiet which was nice. I would give this place 10 stars if I could. We will definitely book again.

Our hosts Courtney and Ike were wonderful hosts. They were always available should you have any questions or need anything. Very cozy, friendly feel at Alta Vista. Our unit was clean and all the essentials were supplied. Loved the location. We were able to enjoy our morning walks around the area. If one wanted to spend time at the beach it was a short drive over the bridge to South Padre Island. Population of Port Isobel is approximately 5000, so it is a relatively quiet town. Lots of restaurants. Grocery stores nearby. Would definitely recommend this property and really hope to go back. We loved it!

Great spot!

We throughly enjoyed our stay at Alta Vista. Our 3 young children spent hours playing in the pool, chasing lizards, and enjoying the outdoor kitchen. Alta Vista was a pleasant alternative to the hustle & bustle of S. Padre Island (but only 5 minutes away). The complex has been restored to capture the historical spirit of Alta Vista. Wonderful place!

We were more than pleasantly surprised when we arrived at the Alta Vista Apartments this past week. It is so inviting, quaint and comfortable. We stayed in a smaller efficient unit which was more than enough space for my husband and me. The owners were great in getting us the information we needed to access our rental, fast and easy! We loved the fact that we were able to walk directly out and almost into the pool from our room, we got in each morning... so refreshing! The court yard is a huge perk in that there is plenty of space, different areas for cooking out, dining, relaxing, even a little laundry area. We actually can't wait to come back, it was a great experience! Thank you to the owners for renovating this really cool apartment to be such a special place to visit.

This was the second year my Grandkids and I stayed in this rental, and both times I have not been disappointed! Courtney and Ike are amazing hosts, making us feel right at home! After our extended stay last July my Grandkids requested I take them back this year. Much better than staying on the Island. After a day at the beach you can relax at the pool and grill at the great outdoor kitchen. We will be back soon! Thank you Courtney, Ike and Bell for letting us enjoy your beautiful home! Gina

The entire place was very well kept amd we had everything that we needed throughout our extended weekend. We were able to make most of our meals in the unit since everything was available and in great working condition! We had a blast and we were close enough to the action that the kids had a blast with all of what Padre has to offer but far enough away that we didn't have any lights, noise, or other reasons we couldn't relax in our own space! Thank you again!!

Courtney and Ike were super nice and took great care of us! We had all of the appliances we needed and they were top quality too. Usually when I see that appliances such as blenders are provided I get cheap quality, but they had a very nice blender, tervis cups, comfy beds, quality furniture and kitchen/bathroom. We've always been happy with our stays from HomeAway.com, but this by far was THE BEST place we have found! We have agreed to book our annual trip with Alta Vista from here on out! Highly recommended!!!

Away from it all

Alta Vista is an oasis away from the bustle of South Padre Island, with extra perks, such as the outdoor grill/eating area, the great secluded courtyard, and beautiful landscaping. We took a shot in the dark when we secured this vacation rental, and hit the bulls eye! We were late registering, so were only able to get the studio apartment (#3). At first we were concerned that the 2 of us would be crowded, but with the lovely front porch and the courtyard to spend time in, we managed just fine for 5 weeks! Courtney and Ike are so helpful with information, and it's nice having them close by. We definitely plan to return next year. Kent and Linda

Great property with a sweet owner

My stay at the Alta Vista Apartment was very nice. The place does look very rustic, which adds to the vacation aspect of the stay. The property was also clean and well-maintained. Courtney (the owner) was very sweet and very understand of certain hiccups occurred during the drive down to Port Isabel, which instantly made me glad that I chose this property for my stay on the coast. The only issue I had was that the internet was a bit slow and disconnected at times, which wasn't a big deal in my eyes. I will definitely be staying here again if I decide to visit Port Isabel in the future, and I will also recommend it to any friend that does the same.

This was a great place to stay. As we were leaving we noticed the Texas Historical Commission plaque that stated this was the oldest apartment building in Port Isabel built in 1931. This place had everything we needed and was only a short drive to South Padre Island. The the pool was shaded which made it perfect to allow my kids to continue to play in the pool after a few hours at the beach. This was a great place and I would love to come back!!!

Only disappointment was the pool was not heated, it was hard to look at it for two months & not be able to use it !!! The outdoor kitchen was awesome! The grounds were kept beautifully !! The owners were gracious & fun to have around! So wonderful to be within walking distance to downtown! Quiet & private & clean !!! Thanks so very much for a wonderful winter retreat !!!! Jim & Sally
