The biggest issue I had was that it was not clean. The garbage can was overflowing with the previous tenant(s) trash and there was a greasy film on every surface of the kitchen. We spent a lot of time recleaning dishes and surfaces just to be able to use the kitchen.
Overall, the cabin is logistically in a good location and has the basic necessities for a rental. I just think the price is too high when you don't maintain the property well.

The pictures show a completely different cabin that what you stay in. Why would I bring two dogs where there is no where for them to run? You have to walk them on a road for potty time. The cabin was DISGUSTING. I called as well as my wife to the rental place with no help. The day we arrived, we opened the door and was hit with an awful smell that wasn’t just cabin musk (the “master” had its own foul smell). Yes, I know it’s pet friendly, this smell wasn’t pet scents. The trash can was covered in grease or oil that I would’ve had to go buy special degreaser to clean. (We did go buy fabreeze and a plug in because the smel was terrible). The dishwasher was FULL of dishes, I suppose it was our job to put those away? The hot tub wasn’t in a good location, nor was it clean. After speaking to two different agents at two separate times with no help, we gave up. Now I will say they offered to come clean it, but we didn’t feel comfortable having a stranger in the cabin while we were there or not there, especially having our dogs there. And judging by the lack of response, who’s to say they would’ve even showed up during our visit. We sent pictures to a random number we were asked to send pictures to with no response. I am not impressed with the cabin as well as the rental agency.

We used this property for an easy commute to the ski businesses in the area. Good breakfast restaurant at the bottom of the mountain and quick access to gas stations and convenience stores.

Do not rent this cabin
I wish I could leave a zero star review. My family stayed at the Lakeside at Hawksnest cabin 1 night - and it was just nasty. The entire cabin was filthy, nothing but the black mold growing! Everything was stained , smelled horrible. After one sleepless night we contacted VRBO and the Carolina Cabin Rentals broker was able to moved us to the real nice place. It was very obvious that Lakeside at Hawksnest was being run by a money greedy owner with no care for upkeep. Please don't rent this cabin. I have plenty of pictures just showing the filth

Overall good experience...
Overall, we enjoyed this cozy cabin for a family vacation. The location and condition of the cabin were great. There were small issues that kept our trip from being more enjoyable: there were substantial leaks from the top floor bathroom when using the shower, there were no batteries in most of the TV remotes and/or they were not working, the dishwasher was still full with the previous guests dishes, the ping pong net was broken, and there were no garbage bags for the trash can in the kitchen. Overall a good experience, but attention to some details could have made it better.

Great hostessing spot for large groups
We had 12 people in our group for a long weekend, and this was the perfect spot for hanging out and cooking meals. There were lots of beds and a good kitchen with plenty plates and other supplies. Beautiful decks too! It was unclear what “lake access” meant (we thought we could use the neighborhood club lake access but we were asked to leave because it’s for club members only)

We had a group of two families and everybody from my 3yr old to the teenagers really enjoyed themselves. There was so much entertainment at the property nobody said they were bored!

Great ski cabin
Super nice property with a good pond view out back. Extremely steep hills to get to, I have AWD but would've needed chains if it snowed more. Don't disregard chain warning. Pull out beds can be more cramped than it looks but it fit perfect for 8. Owner communicates in normal time and allowed us to purchase one more day. Would stay again

Need improvement
Overall the cabin was ok. However the staff needs to pay more attention to cleaning the property, when we open the home it smell like mildew, there is mold on king master bath windows, the hot tub was not hot enough and cloudy water, there is not a lot of lighting in the kitchen we were cooking almost in the dark, the main leaving area the ac gave us issues to start. In the main floor bathroom the rug was clean but it had pet pee stain, there is leak coming from the main floor to the laundry room. This issues did not make our stay 100% satisfied.

Nice quiet get away,
We loved the location. The cabin could use a good cleaning and updated pictures on VRBO. I was expecting a good view of the pond but the yard has grown up so the you only have a few glimpses.

Nice but the pictures on the site are old
The place was ok. The location was good because we weren’t too far from family friendly activities. To get to downtown Boone was like a 15-20min ride. The home could use a few upgrades. Under cabinet lighting would help with meal prep. It was so dark I couldn’t see what I was cooking. The shelves where pots were stored had fallen down. The bath tub didn’t drain and the floors of the tub and showers was stained.

Consider better provider of care
Maintenance issues missing light damaged furniture dirty cookware and previous tenants garbage after reporting never removed. We cleaned up after bear nuisance. Took our and previous occupants trash to the recycling center

Totally misrepresented
We booked this property with our teen boys in mind, with the assurance that we could fish in the lake pictured behind the cabin. I specifically asked if we could fish , and I was told yes. I asked if we could bring kayaks to use on the lake and was told yes that we could use them on that lake pictured behind the house. Only to arrive to realize that the lake behind the house in the picture is a private members only property. We were not able to use it. There was a small pond a way from the house where I couldn’t see what the kids were doing. I was very disappointed at being deceived. There is nowhere for kids to play. There was barely a place for the dog to go the bathroom it is literally on the side of a mountain. There’s not even access to that lake pictured in the back from the house. It’s a drive away. So misleading. Not only that but when my husband took the kids down to that lake pictured, the members who told them it was private property said that the cabin rentals deceive people all the time. They are constantly having to correct what renters have been told, telling people that it’s private property despite the fact that they were told by the rental agency they could have full use of the lakes in this development. Other than the house being super tired and needing a lot of repairs, it was clean and the management refunded $75 towards our stay because we could not use the lake. But there is no reason to rent this house this time of year; the drive up is treacherous and if you can’t use the lakes there’s really no reason to be up there: It took 10 mins of switchback dangerous road just to get up there. We won’t be back.

Mountain View Retreat
This property was mostly in good shape. A few problems we encountered include, the hot tub did not heat even after a service call. Only one roll of TP for the bathrooms, our trip was for 5 night! The futon was broken, the only way to use it was to pull the cushion to the floor. The hand rail to downstairs was torn off the wall leaving two big holes in the wall. This house definitely needs some TLC!

Fun weekend
The house was very clean which was awesome. It was a little odd that it was still decorated for Christmas on Presidents weekend. There are a number of things in the house that could use some updating like an ottoman that was burned and some of the comforters were falling apart. In general the location and house were good.

Great mountain experience
Had a phenomenal trip up the mountains with this cabin. Place was super clean and rental company was quick with any questions of assistance (nothing big, firewood and extra car parking). Town does great job making sure roads were safe with the snow we did get for our trips back down the mountain. Only advises if traveling with guys make sure the bring a extra towel if don’t want have do towel load everyday. All the girls has brought 1-2 and still had do towels for a group size of 7.

Great stay!
Very close to Hawksnest and other activities. Kitchen is well stocked and living room is comfortable. Heating was off balanced. Super hot in the first floor room. Hot tub could use a better cleaning. Parking is tight but expected. We enjoyed having the ping pong table. Kids enjoyed hanging out downstairs. Overall, a great stay.

Great get away!
It was a very beautiful area and was really impressed how well kept up it was. Minus a small issue with one of the drains in the bathroom that it was fixed very quickly the rest of the stay was amazing and cannot wait to do it again in the future!

The house was great overall. Great location and beautiful views of lake and trees. Upon check in, the code I was emailed didn't open the lock to enter the house, but when I called, the agent was very friendly and gave me a new code that worked. The hot tub didn't heat up when we tried to use it, so i let rental company know upon checkout so others would be able to enjoy it. We did enjoy using the pool table in the house. Also very close to Hawks Nest ziplining.

Great location and accommodations. The only complaint that I have is that the hot tub would not warm up past 89 degrees. We definitely booked Lakeside at HawksNest because of the hot tub and was seriously disappointed when we couldn't really use it. Other than that - great place!

Worst experience with Rental home
I wish I could give 0 stars. Too many issues to describe with the limited amount of words available. First of all, we couldn't get in the home with the code provided. We called and it took 35 minutes before we could enter. Bought firewood and starters only to conclude the fireplace was not vented properly and smoke was so bad we had to open the doors for a bit. (Lots of black smoke over the fireplace). The hot tub had a very bad smell, perhaps mold. We couldn't use it at all. There is a tree by the front window that needs trimming and even in the daytime, it blocked any sun making the home dark. Outdoor furniture is so soiled we couldn't enjoy the experience of being outdoors and there is absolutely no other place to be outside. There was no banister going downstairs which is a hazard. We had booked a three night stay but left after two days thoroughly disgusted.

Beginning of Fall 2020 visit
Very nice and spacious cabin, with well perfect equipment like wifi, game room, full kitchen, grill and everything you need for a home away from home. Seven Devils is a great location and the Lakes community is quite and very pleasant.
The property management was very responsive to even small questions and provided professional attention.
Porch and hot tub could be better cleaned after every stay.

Lakeside at Hawksnest
We decided to rent this property because of the location and because it had a hot tub. Upon our arrival, the hot tub temperature was 72 degrees! A call was placed to the property management company and we were told that prior to our arrival, the hot tub had been checked, and that the temperature was steady at 102 degrees. This was am outright LIE! There is NO WAY the temperature dropped 30 degrees in just a few hours. We were told that a technician would be out the next morning. Much to our surprise, a technician showed up unannounced around 9 PM. The very nice young man thought he had the problem fixed, but right before he left, the hot tub stopped working AGAIN. He told us that there was definitely something wrong with the tub, and that he would need to get their "hot tub guy" out for further troubleshooting. We were supposed to get a call back sometime the next day, but never did. When we got back to the cabin, I immediately checked the temperature, and much to my surprise, it had heated to the appropriate temperature. Obviously, someone had been out to fix it while we were away. After we all changed into our bathing suites and showered up, we jumped in the tub and turned on the jets. Within 5 minutes the main circuit breaker tripped and the tub quit working. We reset the breaker and it tripped again. After going online and reading other reviews of this property, it became obvious that we are not the only families that have had problems with this property's hot tub. The whole experience was very frustrating. Instead of enjoying time with family and friends, we spent way too much time on the phone with the management company trying to resolve the issues. Promised call backs and a genuine lack of effort to get us up and running by the management company significantly impacted our stay. After not receiving the promised follow-up phone call from the manager, we called them yesterday on our drive home. 20 minutes of waiting to speak to a manager is completely unacceptable. If you're looking for a cabin and a hot tub is a must, do yourself a favor and DO NOT rent this property. All of this being said, everything else about the property was as advertised.

Great cabin and it had enough room for 9 of us. Had a problem in the great room with the a/c unit all week with it not working but was fixed the day before we left. All in all a great place for vacation!

Overall, great cabin and stay. Beds are very comfortable. The Mitsubishi AC units are great for cooling. These should be a feature listed on rental info.. much better then window unit we anticipated per description. The lighting is not great. Can lights in kitchen over stove would help. Stove top is a bit askew. A few latching large garbage bins around side of back deck would have saved trips to the dumpster. A mention that there is no access to lake that is visible from deck would help with frustration, too.

House was clean on arrival. Kitchen is well stocked, although some cutlery is a little scarce (forks.) Hot tub was not working when we arrived so called office and someone was out that evening to fix it, although there was still a loose filter that we had to reattach every time we used it. Lighting in the kitchen is really hard for cooking- light over the stove was out and one of the under cabinet lights was missing- so things were a bit dim. House was comfortable and easy to relax in. Nice basement and the family really enjoyed the ping pong table and pool table. Location is perfect- ~20 minutes to Boone, Julian Price, Moses H. Cone; easy access to Banner Elk for take-out food from restaurants; 5 minutes from Otter Falls for short hike to fun waterfall area.

First Time Cabin Renters - Impressed & Will do Again!
We are 1st time cabin renters, 1st renting through this company, & 1st time visit to this location in North Carolina. Pros: Cabin is beautiful, clean (very clean) & well decorated! Lake Views from the porch & the basement/game room is well stocked with games! Our stay was short (2 nights- only thing available) - the management company is exceptional & responsive - they ensured we could access our cabin upon our late arrival & they resolved issues in a timely manner! Small Cons: No lake access & no yard. The hot tub did not work; it turned on for fifteen minutes and then shut off - having contacted the management company, since our visit was short, they could not send a repair person out, so they refunded a portion of our rental fee for this inconvenience. Overall, BEAUTIFUL, quiet location! We look forward to visiting this cabin in the future!

Disappointed
Disappointed on the advertisement verses what we got. The cabin was very well laid out. However they made it seem it was on a lake. It was not. It was a private lake that you did not have any access to or any rights to it. No fire pit. Who goes to the outdoors and you can't have a campfire? The Hot Tub did not work, and was brushed off when addressed it. We couldn't use it all. The cabin was somewhat clean but it definitely needs a “deep” clean. Parking was only good for 2 small cars. We won't be coming back. Definitely a learning experience.

Great property, faulty hot tub
We had a party of 6 adults and 5 children stay at this property for a long weekend in February 2019. The property is spacious and welcoming. We enjoyed the downstairs play room and the open layout of the kitchen and living room. Everyone had plenty of space to sleep.
The only downside is the faulty hot tub. We discovered it on day 2 and communicated with the management company, who was very responsive. They tried to fix it that day and kept convincing us that it will work, even in light of our repeated calls and texts throughout the day to let them know that there was no change. The same thing continued on the 3rd day. I'm sad we wasted so much time coordinating about this and in the end we got a meager refund that in no way represents the premium that they charge for having the tub on property.
Overall, we had a good time but a lot of headache (and unmet expectations from excited guests ready to soak in the tub) could have been avoided had the management actually checked the status of the tub before our check in (as per their policy).

Cold Hottub-First Annual Family Mountain Trip
When we arrived and did our initial walk of the property we noticed a few major issues. We rented this property for our first annual family mountain trip with hopes to have a pool table and hot tub at the property we rented. When we arrived the pool table pockets were broken and hanging from the pool table itself. Maintenance came and fixed this immediately which we were thankful for. However when we arrived the hot tub cover was not completely on the hot tub-one side folded over and the water of course was ice cold and not clean at all. We requested this be fixed as well but it remained cold and unused all weekend. Never seemed to be repaired or cleaned. Not sure what the situation was with this. Other than that we had a wonderful stay. The property was nice however no yard at all but too cold to go outside unless you needed to anyway. The parking is really setup for only 2 compact cars safely. The view off of the porch was lovely. This was not a bad place to stay just a bit let down that the hot tub didnt work since we booked this cabin for pool table and hot tub that actually work. We will stay with Carolina Cabin Rentals again however probably not this property for out next annual family Mountain Trip.

Too expensive, too small
The cabin is way smaller than it looks in the pictures. The wide lens will do the trick. To get an idea of how small it is, look at the outside shot. It's more relevant. Also, the heating system it's kind of outdated. It will accommodate 12 people but it will be crowded.
