About this cottage rental
Dates available -- many dates in Sept. and Oct., 2024. Grab em. They won't last long!
The Cottage is tucked on a wooded lot along the shores of Lake Michigan on scenic Glidden Drive. The family-friendly location features a large private sand beach and close access to hiking in the Shivering Sands Natural Area.
The Cottage has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It features an open kitchen, living and dining area with a wood-burning fireplace, gas furnace, ceiling fan and floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking Lake Michigan.
The kitchen (new in 2019) features a full-size refrigerator, stove and oven, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, blender and dining table. All pots, pans, plates, glasses, cutlery and everything else you'll need for cooking is there for you to use.
One bedroom has a queen-sized bed, the other has a full-size bed. Both beds have new mattresses, cotton sheets, a lightweight cotton blanket and a heavyweight down comforter.
Outside, enjoy a large front porch, a charcoal grill and plentiful opportunities for walking, sunbathing and swimming.
Sturgeon Bay (8 miles away) offers grocery stores, laundromats, a YMCA, museums, theaters, a boat launch and more. Fish Creek, Egg Harbor, Jacksonport, Bailey's Harbor and other towns are also close by. Enjoy shopping and sight seeing and then return to your own retreat on Door County's 'quiet side.'
Kid-friendly activities in Door County include pick-your-own berries and cherries, miniature golf, an old-time drive-in movie theatre, lighthouses, museums, horseback riding and lots of ice cream stops.
If your kids are older, bring your bicycles, as Whitefish Dunes State Park, Cave Point County Park and warm Clark’s Lake are all an easy 7-mile pedal away from the Cottage.
Right at the Cottage, of course, you've got your own 'sand box' and a 'big swimming pool' right out your front door. You and the kids will enjoy building sand castles, collecting and painting rocks, catching crawfish in nearby Shivering Sands Creek, watching wildlife, flying kites and lots more.
In the evenings, build a fire in the outdoor fire pit and make s'mores or enjoy a fire and a board game inside. There's TV, cable, a DVD player and WiFi if you can't live without it, but you'll find lots of other things to do too.
The Cottage sits just outside the 485-acre Shivering Sands Natural Area, a property of the Door County Land Trust. The area, along Glidden Drive and south of Whitefish Dunes State Park, contains 19 natural landscapes, including dunes, kettles, swales, old and present shorelines, small lakes, streams, ponds, fens, bogs and forests. The area is recognized as an Important Bird Habitat by the Audubon Society. There are marked hiking trails that you can enter in several places along Glidden Drive.
Boat launch opportunities: If you’re a boater, launch in Sturgeon Bay and choose between fishing the harbor, Green Bay or Lake Michigan. Or use Glidden Drive’s public Lake Michigan boat launch located just a few miles south of The Cottage.
The Cottage has been in our family since it was built more than 50 years ago. We started renting our family cottage in 2009, which has been a great success for us and for our visitors. It's a haven that we've chosen to share. Thank you and enjoy!

If you're looking for a quiet place to relax and enjoy the beauty of Lake Michigan, you've found the right place.

We enjoyed this ‘historic’ cabin, especially the views of the lake, nearby hiking and shopping. Wonderful stay.

Lovely family cottage in a great location. We were lucky to find The Cottage about a dozen years ago and always look forward to our time here. It's simplicity and family history are part of the appeal. And the lake, the sun, the moon, the stars, and the occasional eagle - or five! We always have a memorable visit.

The cottage was ideally located in the woods, right on the lake. We enjoyed the fire pit and the fireplace.

The perfect spot to relax in Door County on the quiet Lake Michigan side of the peninsula. Cozy cottage with all the conveniences needed for a one or two week stay. Just steps away from the beach and the water. And if you're looking for music, plays, restaurants, shopping, all of that is just 30-40 minutes away on the touristy Green Bay side of the peninsula.

This was our 5th year spending a week at the cottage and it was perfect, as always. The cabin is cozy, clean, and well-stocked; the beach is gorgeous; and Susan is always easy to communicate with. We've already booked for next summer and can't wait to come back!

What can we say — this was our seventh year at the cottage, and it was wonderful as ever. The only problem is the time seems to go by too fast. We’re already looking forward to returning next year. Cheers!

We have been staying for a week in the Summer at this wonderful place for ten years. We look forward to returning every year. We feel very fortunate and are grateful beyond words.

We had a great stay at the cabin. The beach felt very private and my daughter loved going for swims and playing in the sand.
If you stay don't forget to check the damper on the fireplace. The last guests left it open and some mosquitoes got inside.

We enjoyed our stay. Great location and amazing views of Lake Michigan. Great instructions for everything in the cottage.

This was our second stay here. Needless to say, we’re planning a third. This cottage is a hidden gem. We love everything about it & it is very well loved and cared for…it feels like home! The views are breathtaking and the sounds of nature especially the waves are so calming. When our stay ends, we hate to leave. We actually hate leaving the cottage while we stay here so we don’t…no need to…you have the beauty of Door County here without all the people and hassle. Thank you, Susan, for sharing a piece of your family and it’s history with us!!!

Our family's sixth year at the cottage on the beach, and once again, we all had a fantastic time. What could be better than a snug cottage nestled among the pines on a beautiful beach. Susan promptly responded to a query we had, and overall, the trip went smoothly. Looking forward to returning next year!

This was our fourth summer staying at the cottage and it was fantastic. The property is extremely clean and well stocked, and Susan is a responsive, helpful host. The sandy, shallow beach is perfect for swimming and we always look forward to enjoying our coffee on the porch each morning. We love staying at the cottage for our home base and we're already looking forward to returning next summer!

Relaxing stay on the quiet side of the Door Peninsula, but with the tourist activities all just 30-40 minutes away.

Another perfect week in Door County!
We loved our stay. The cottage is a sanctuary and the beautiful moon rises are the best over Lake Michigan. Looking forward to staying here again next Summer!

Glidden drive
This home is adorable, clean, comfortable and well maintained. It was cool and rainy during our stay, so the covered porch and chairs were a great place to take in the view and listen to the waves on the beach. The beach was quiet and pristine and the home has direct access. We didn’t utilize the kitchen except for the refrigerator and coffee maker, but it seemed well stocked for cooking meals. We used the outside fireplace one night and enjoyed stargazing and even saw a shooting star! This house is perfect for a small family or two couples. Thank you for sharing it with us!

Only issue we had was the internet was live but blocking all access to the web but this turned out ok as we spent less time with electronic distractions
The beach and peace and quiet are great!

Our family spent a great week at the cottage. Our two boys (18 months & 3) loved splashing on the beach and making s'mores on the fire pit at night.
During our stay the power went out for about 15 hours, which also caused the water to go out, but Susan was very communicative with us and put us in touch with the neighbors who shared updates in the power. We left the house for the day and power was restored soon after we returned.
The cottage was very well equipped including flashlights, beach chairs, beach toys, guides for the area, s'mores roasting sticks, booster seat, cleaning supplies and lots of utensils and kitchenware. Susan thought of everything, and more, that would make a guest feel at home.
We had such a good time we booked it again for next year!

It was relaxing. Although there was no dish soap or salt there to use. We had great fires under the stars and great listening to the waves. The water smelled bad. Overall we will come back.

Another lovely stay at the Cottage on the Beach
What can I say, it was our fifth year at the Cottage, and once again, it was a great stay. We're planning on returning next summer!

Another perfect week
The cottage never disappoints. Even when the weather doesn’t quite cooperate, we manage to have a great time. We keep returning, because we just love it.

Another Wonderful Stay
This was our third year returning to the cottage with our two young children and it's easily the best part of our summer. The cabin has everything you need for a comfortable stay and the private sandy beach is such a treat. We enjoyed taking day trips to explore other towns in Door County but the cottage is a wonderful home base. We'll be back next year!

Great getaway from the big city!
Staying at a rental on the lake side of the Door County peninsula gives you the quiet relaxation of a secluded hideaway with the touristy bay side just a short drive away. The best of both worlds! And no better place to do this than The Cottage.

We had the best time here. Beautiful cute lil cottage! Everything you need. Cozy. We had fires outside some nights and inside. Grilled out with fresh white fish from the fish market in Baileys Harbor. Early morning paddle right in the backyard. Beach chairs and umbrella provided. Kitchen stocked perfectly. We loved this so immensely for our home base after day time exploring around DC. And to top it all off my boyfriend proposed to me our last night right in the living room. It’s forever a special place to us. Thank you 🙏 Susan for sharing your families property for others to experience the way you did. Truly.
