About this house rental
Big Pink, the house where Bob Dylan's Basement Tapes were recorded with his back-up band, later know as The Band, whose first album was called "Music from Big Pink".
Note: The Basement is not included in the rental.
Bethel Center for the Arts is 1 hour 40 minutes from Big PInk--not 10 minutes as the VRBO platform indicates.
The updated Dormer unit was Levon Helm's bunk area back In the late '60s. The Central Staircase opens mid-unit to a dining table & chairs; to the right is a desk-bar; the kitchen, with stone counter-top; bathroom with tile shower, and a futon-couch-sitting area. To the left, in the bedroom area, there’s a sitting area with TV/DVD and a queen bed with a quality mattress set. The Dormer has air-conditioning, and views of Overlook Mountain, fields and forest. Outside is the lawn with out-door furniture & original stone fireplace/bbq area nestled beneath the pines. The Dormer can sleep 4, and has WiFi.
The main floor is a 2 bedroom unit with a sunroom ( Rick's room - was Rick Danko's quarters), living room with sofa, writing table & chairs at the picture window, wood-stove/fireplace. It opens into the Dining Room, which has a antique dining table & chairs for 6. The kitchen, as does much of the house, maintains the mid-century period look, with forest views east. The main bedroom has a queen-sized bed, desk, sitting area & full closet. The second bedroom has 2 twin beds, dressers and side tables. The sunroom had a futon twin couch ( which folds down to become a sleeper). The sunroom has its own back entrance, and opens to the lawn and old out-door fireplace for campfire evenings.
There are several outside security cameras on the property.

If you love 60s pop culture, you've found the right place. The hosts lovingly preserve Big Pink, where Bob Dylan and the Band recorded some of their iconic songs. We had a great time. If you love the history and the lore, you won't be disappointed. We had a great time.

Susan and Don went above and beyond. The house and yard themselves surpassed our expectations and would have been enough by themselves. But, add to that the extensive time, knowledge and conversation that Don shared, plus Susan's responsiveness to all questions about our stay, and what we got was a long weekend full of favorite memories that we'll carry with us and talk about for years to come. Highly, highly recommend.

To mark my 60th, my wife and I rendezvoused at Big Pink with my two college professors/close friends/mentors for a weekend of basking in the creative spirit of such a magical place, and of sitting around and not quite remembering a whole bunch of stuff together. :) The place had exactly the right mix of soulfulness and whimsy. Very grateful.

I first stayed at Big Pink in 2008 and after all these years, I found the grounds and the house to be in great condition. Don and Sue are wonderful hosts, and we had a very restful stay at Big Pink. They have kept the house much as it was back in 1967, when most members of The Band lived there, and Bob Dylan joined them often to collaborate on new songs. It is magical to spend time there and I can't wait to stay there again!

What had been a dream of mine for years finally came true last weekend when I stayed three nights in this legendary house, and it was even more wonderful than I expected. My family who visited fell in love with Big Pink as well, along with its musical history. Thanks again to Sue and Don for making this possible, they are everything great hosts should be.
I feel like I’ve left a piece of my heart at this magical place.

I cannot say enough about how great this trip was. We were only able to stay 3 days, but it was well worth the trip from the South. I would come back in a heartbeat. The owners are gracious and helpful, a 5 star rating does not do them justice.

My husband wept the minute we pulled into the driveway and the great feelings remained straight through our stay. It’s a magical place. Don and Susan were amazing to interact with, topped off by a fantastic tour of the basement. Thanks for an incredible experience and for letting us be part of the living history of Big Pink.

What an absolutely wonderful place! I took my dad up here for a long promised 70th birthday present and we had an amazing time. The second you step into the house, you’re transported back in time. They’ve managed to combine maintaining the vibe of the 60’s with modern amenities that blend right in. You genuinely feel as though you’re visiting Levon and the guys, while also enjoying central air. The place is super clean and feels like a comfortable home. Even my mother, who is not a music fan, enjoyed staying in the house doing crafts and reading on the sunporch, while we were out exploring the area.
Sue and Don were great—super responsive and kind, even bringing my dad a bottle of pink wine for his birthday. We loved being able to visit the basement and talk with Don about music history. So grateful they’re keeping this important piece of history alive and sharing it with us. We hope to return!

The history of the house in the music scene we love is what drew us to the property! Owners, Don and Sue were very accommodating, kind and cool! We highly recommend renting this property, adoring it and supporting this living museum. Lots of great hikes in the area too!

Big Pink is an absolutely awesome piece of Americana! The house still feels like it might have when The Band lived there in the 60's, complete with typewriter and original-looking decor. Susan was super nice! Excellent stay - I'm looking forward to going back.

If you are of a certain age and grew up loving one of the worlds best and most original rock bands, this is a dream trip. And the house is as they left in important aspects, but modern and clean where it counts. Kudos to the owners/caretakers for preserving the Band's history and for allowing us mere mortals access.

This property is SO special to any Band or Dylan fan. It's really amazing to be able to rent it and speaks to the owners' generosity, care and respect for what went down here, 50 years ago(!). The home is marvelously maintained between being a shrine to what was and to being a modern, enjoyable, comfortable home for today's guests. The vibe still exists and the energy from Danko, Hudson, Manuel and Helm, all past residents, as well as Robertson and Dylan, who came over practically every day, is palpable. I love it! Super easy communication with the owners, and "the tour" are additional pluses.

I can't help but echo all the other comments on VRBO about how Don and Sue curate this magnificent piece of music history.
Everything was just a joy, and if the idea of spending a weekend at Big Pink is on your bucket list, you are advised to go as soon as possible.

The house was in immaculate condition with a retro decor. The back yard was perfectly set up to sit around a fire and hang out with friends. Susan and Don were gracious owners who made sure our stay was great. The tour of the basement was of course one of the highlights. We'll definitely make it back to Big Pink again.

Sue and Don are excellent hosts who have maintained Big Pink without changing how it was in the past. It was so relaxing to sit by the outside fire place at night and listen to the wind whisper through the pines and wonder if that same situation inspired Richard Manual to write Whispering Pines. I highly recommend this rental if you want a peaceful place to spent time with friends.

One of the most special experiences we had staying at Big Pink. Don and Susan were exceptional hosts! Was a pleasure listening to all the musical history and knowledge that Don was kind enough to share with us. The house is perfect and the spirits of The Band and Bob Dylan live on in the walls!

Big Pink Brings Big Joy
Sue and Don could teach a master class on grassroots historic preservation and the endearing art of hosting with heart. Forever grateful to have the privilege to stay here and become a small part of the property's history. As a historic site it blows the mind. As a rental it has all you could want and much much much more. We checked out joyful, serene, and grateful.

Special experience
The place was very clean, thoughtfully curated and well maintained. As a regular rental it would have been great. But it's not a regular rental. Susan and Don's warm correspondence, responsiveness and willingness to share their own personal history of the home made our stay beyond special. 3 long-time friends were able to reflect on memories and create new ones emersed in the soundtrack of the songs that have meant so much to us over the years. It was a perfect balance of past and present. Thank you Susan and Don for creating the space to make it happen.

Great property and history, surreal to get to stay there. The house is in great shape and comfortable in addition to being famous. The property owners really went out of their way to make it a fun and memorable place to visit. Terrific stay, thank you!

Beautiful place, rich history
Of course the place is legendary -- and music fans will get a strong sense of how/where the magic happened back in the late sixties. It also happens to be a charming and ideal rental. It's very well maintained, very convenient to Woodstock, beautifully situated -- just a dream come true. I will be marinating in memories for the rest of the summer. Hope to come back again with my father. Deep thanks to Susan and Don.

Perfect Getaway
Staying at the legendary Big Pink house was truly a dream come true. Susan and Don have done such a wonderful, loving job decorating and maintaining this home - it feels as if you are stepping back in time but it still has modern day conveniences and is extremely comfy. We loved sitting in the main living room, listening to records while staring out the large picture window. Everything was perfect :)
