About this villa rental
The villa sits on a single rock and offers breathtaking views of Amalfi, the coast and the sea. A beautiful garden with roses, bougainvillea, lemon, olive and palm trees surrounds the detached house and three large terraces with high-quality furniture on three levels. The town of Amalfi can be reached from the house in 25 minutes on foot or 10 minutes by taxi/bus.
It is ideal for up to eight visitors who want to enjoy a sophisticated and unique experience of this world-famous coast with its natural beauty, stunning history and spectacular places such as Amalfi, Ravello, Positano, Capri or Pompeii and Naples.
The house guarantees all amenities for a luxurious, modern kitchen-living room, a spacious dining and separate living room, four bedrooms with double beds, one of which is on a separate level with a natural terrace under olive trees.
You will enjoy traditional local furniture in high quality interiors and various African tribal artworks. Internet in all rooms, satellite TV, audio equipment. The kitchen offers the gas cooking options preferred by chefs, while guests staying longer take advantage of new washer/dryers.
Please note that to reach our beautiful and private villa you will have to climb approximately 140 steps leading through gardens, a small 12th century church and shady paths. We therefore advise guests with walking difficulties or health problems not to rent the villa. But older guests with normal health also enjoy this small daily exercise, which is practiced by all locals.
History and background information:
In the 8th century Amalfi became a strong element of history as one of the Sea Republics besides Venice, Genua and Pisa. Here was written and is still to be seen the first codex for maritime rights. Every fourth year the visitor can experience the famous regatta in antique boats between the old republics and indulge into the glamour and wealth of ancient customs and celebrations of middle age times. Here stood the first European paper mills whose history and paper production process still can be seen in a beautiful museum. The dome - the main church - and many more places demonstrate the influence of the arabian orient where Amalfi had important trading posts like Damascus and Cairo. One of the hightlights is the arabic cloister beside the dome. Like Venice Amalfi was ruledby a doge which was intronized in Atrani, a small neighbouring sea village which could be reached via Kasbah like alley ways through houses and quarters without touching a street.
The coast: Amalfi is actually the centre of a breathtaking coastal landscape which rises more than 1000 m above the sea. Famous cities and boroughs like Positano and Ravello have contributed to the reputation of the coast, one with its famous guests and attractive textile offers, the other with its history, palaces and an amazing cultural offer. Ravello guards one of the unique Svebian-normannic cathedrals with crypta, bronze portal and normannic influences in interior decoration, a romantic Villa Rufolo in a beautiful garden setting that enchanted Wagner to 'find' his Klingsohr garden of his Parsival opera. Beside the famous music festival with all classic contributions music there are special Wagner music performances at 5 o'clock in the morning with the rising sun above the sea...
And finally the Villa Cimbrone in a unique garden allowing one of the top views of the coast, where many celebreties decided to retreat like Greta Garbo, Winston Churchill, Hery Moore or Gregorovius.
Surroundings and excursions: Although the coast is beautifully protected by high coastal mountains (and a Unesco World heritage itself) Amalfi could be the starting point for the visit of world famous places regarding nature and culture. To start with Capri which can be reached per ship in one hour, Pompeiji, Herculaneum and Stabia - well preserved remainings of once blooming roman cities around the Vesuvio, Vesuvio itself with its spectacluar crater and view over the golf of Naples, Naples - a world of its own with fish markets, Antique shops, elegant shopping streets and cafés, typical living quarters with mediteranian flair, breathtaking museums with unique art treasures or the 'campi flegri' - seismic areas where hot sulfur steam and mud bubbles invited romans to enjoy hot baths. Caserta - the Versailles of Italy, Paestum with the best preserved Greek temples on earth. And Cilento with its white sandy beaches and the beautiful buffalo mozerella in the hinterland.

The villa itself was exactly as described. It is lovely & well maintained. Luigi was an incredible help. I don’t think we could have done it without him and the two meals prepared by his mum were fabulous!! The steps were more difficult than we expected especially in the incredibly hot July weather. We expected 50-80 steps to reach the street above. In actuality it was more than 130. The only suggestion we have for making the villa more comfortable is to replace the mattresses in the lower bedroom. Every one of our family members who attempted to sleep in them found them to be incredibly uncomfortable.

Loved the house.
Views were spectacular, eclipsing the photos.
Luigi was an amazing host.
Dinner prepared by Luigi and his mom is a “must add”-better than a Michelin 5 star.
Steps are a bit much to walk back from town.
Overall, a great “home base” to explore the beautiful Amalfi Coast.

While the listing looks spectacular it can’t do the place justice. Every nook and corner is lovingly designed to show the gardens and views at their best.
The garden is a Mediterranean paradise with well kept flower beds and a lemon grove and everywhere shady spots to read a book and enjoy your surroundings.
Once arrived we pretty much ditched all our plans for excursions and hikes as we just wanted to enjoy the villa.
If you would rather venture out, both the owner and the manager, Luigi, are there to arrange tours and find the best rates, restaurants or whatever else you might be looking for.
Communication with the host was easy and he gave us many helpful tips before our trip.
Steps: yes, there are steps down to the house and even quite a few more down to the city but we saw it as a healthy workout to offset all the delicious food and never felt like taking the bus.
The only thing you won’t like is that you eventually will have to leave…
To sum it up: a true find and a home away from home. We can’t wait to return.

The house was amazing! Our host was wonderful. Location was easy to use busses to get around. We would stay there again for sure.

A really lovely, spacious and clean house with an amazing view. Good and friendly communication with both the owner and the manager of the house.

The property is gorgeous and has breathtaking views! Plenty of indoor and outdoor space to enjoy. The stairs are pretty treacherous, so be sure to bring plenty of comfortable footwear. It takes about 30 minutes for the average person to walk down the hill. We took the bus back up, because there is no way we could take on those stairs, going uphill. Otherwise- BELLISIMO!

Beautiful property, exactly as presented, except that it's anything but a "typical" Villa! Wonderful spaces, everything worked, Luigi was a great help, and we felt like we could stay there forever.
As others have said, the stairs to the Villa are a challenge and not for the faint of heart. One of our group used a stepper to get ready, and it helped but only partially. We walked down to Amalfi daily (group ages 27-63), very enjoyable, and took the local bus back up. This worked well. Overall, a great value, beautiful property, just take your time getting suitcases back up the steps when you leave.

The Villa was exactly as we thought… very roomy, beautiful outside areas, new bathroms, lovely furniture. Every night after our sightseeing we couldn’t wait to have our dinner and or wine out in the upper level terrace. Every morning our breakfast outside the kitchen in the lower terrace.
The views were magnificent. And we were so grateful for the quietness of the area.
Luigi was so helpful! He made it all easier for us. His Mom made us dinner two night. Delicious!!!! If we had time we would have had her make it every night.
Our only challenges were the steps and figuring out our transportation. But we worked it out, and it was all worth it.
There were 4 couples in our group and we all were so happy with our choice!!
Would definately recommend the Villa.
Also the owners were very helpful in sending lots of information months in advance and wuick to realins to any questions we had.

We absolutely loved the villa. We did have my mother with us and the steps were challenging for her. Just keep that is mind when booking. We loved the private feeling of the villa and the view just couldn't have been better!
Luigi was very helpful with all of our plans, and we knew we could count on him!

The Villa was amazing. It looked great online but was even better in person. It had everything we needed. The property manager, Luigi, was super helpful and friendly. I have to be honest though - the number of stairs between the villa and the road where the bus stops could be an issue for anyone with knee or hip problems. We managed - with rest stops!

We had a wonderful stay at the villa tucked away on a hillside above Amalfi. The property manager was fantastic and very helpful before and during the stay, helping us to make various arrangements for transportation, etc. The villa has incredible views and is exquisitely furnished and well maintained. It was very roomy for our large party. The one downside is that one must traverse 156 stone steps up and down every time one comes or goes. Some in our group have mobility challenges and we didn’t understand this important detail. It is also necessary to carry one’s luggage up and down these stairs, so pack light! It also advertises as air conditioned. There are air conditioning units in each of the bedrooms, but not in the main living space of the kitchen, dining and living room. A few days during our stay were very hot and it was uncomfortable in those areas. Overall, it was a wonderful and memorable experience and I would recommend this property if you can negotiate the logistics.

This place was incredible. We loved the house it is quintessential Amalfi coast.
The steps are serious. We read about them but we were amazed at how many steps/how steep. Part of our group walked to town but it was a lot of steps down and took much longer than 15 (more like 30) min. We took the bus.

Already before arrival, we received a lot of helpful information. The local manager was most helpful and arranged a welcoming dinner in the villa at or arrival.
The villa is big and in a really good condition. Even if the pictures are nice, the reality is better than what the pictures show both internally and externally. Nice bathrooms and a good kitchen for people who like to make dinner at home. To pick lemons from the garden was a really nice experience. The kitchen is fully equipped - we also received special towels for using at the beach. It felt as we visited someone’s home. Fresh and very clean at our arrival felt very welcoming.
The bedrooms had nice beds and were equipped with air conditioning. This week, we had temperatures around 26-28 degrees Celsius and by having the outer window shutters closed during the day, we didn’t even have to use the air conditioning. It’s a well balanced building.
Walking down to Amalfi is easy and takes about 20 minutes (there is of course a lot of stairs). It is easy to take the bus back but most times we walked back as well. The small grocery shop located within 200 metres distance has a good assortment for its size and we bought fish and vegetables in Amalfi.
Me and my family really enjoyed our stay in the villa and give our outstanding best recommendations

The house is in a fantastic location and is both practical and very pretty. Large airconditioned rooms and 3 beautiful bathrooms. We received very good help from Luigi and had wonderful days in the house. We enjoyed the view from the terrace at all times of the day. The garden was beautiful eit pranges and herbs. The trip down to Amalfi and the beach was charming. The house was a perfect starting point for trips in the local area. We walked the Path of God, visited Positano and Ravello and rented a boat. We had a fantastic holiday!

Luigi was a fantastic host and incredibly helpful he’s really willing to help you find anything to do on the amalfi coast and a very genuine host the house was stellar and the pictures do not do it justice recommend this for anyone looking for a calm place away from the crowds

We all loved this house. I rent houses on VRBO regularly and this is one of the best houses I have ever rented.
The house is on 3 levels. The lowest level has the bedroom with two twin beds, a full bath, and its own patio/porch. The middle level has the common living area with the kitchen, dining room, living room, bathroom, a porch and laundry. The top level has 3 bedrooms with 2 full bathrooms and the patio with the largest table. A group of six, we had dinner on that patio nightly. We had breakfast and dinner at the villa daily, purchased vegetables in Amalfi and all else from the Florida Market up the street.
For our fellow US travelers, you need to empty the water from the clothes dryer. It took me a couple days to figure out why the clothes dryer kept shutting off. All of the appliances are top of the line and well maintained.
This is my third trip to the Amalfi coast. I stayed in Positano the other two trips in 2013 and 2019. I knew exactly what I wanted to do, so I planned out our first 3 days on my own in advance - trip to Pompeii with a guide who picked us up at the top of the villa stairs, wine tasting with the same pick up, and a private all day boat tour of the coast. All the day trips were amazing. We were lucky to have good weather!
Regarding location, we walked down the stairs into Amalfi and took the bus back. It was good for us to be out of the center, but for others this might be a minus.
Luigi is wonderful. Check in and out were flawless.

Before booking this villa we read reviews and noticed many comments on the number of stairs. The owner told us that there were "about 70" stairs but that most of them were not steep. Imagine our surprise to discover that there are 146 stairs from the street to the front door of the villa. In addition, most of the stairs are very steep and some are broken. Had we known this we would not have booked this villa. Unless you are in top physical condition, this is not the right villa for you. The villa itself was nicely furnished with antiques and the beds are comfortable. The primary bedroom has absolutely no closet or wardrobe making unpacking a real problem. Fortunately we were only planning to use two bedrooms so we borrowed a wardrobe from the third bedroom on the main level. FYI the fourth bedroom (twin beds) is on the lowest level and can only be accessed from the outside of the villa. The outdoor living areas at the villa were very nice and offered unparalleled views of the Gulf of Salerno. Be aware that there are three feral cats living on this property. Our property manager told us that they would not enter the villa. This is untrue. The first time we opened the French doors from the kitchen two cats walked right inside. They beg relentlessly for food and don't appear to receive any care. The property manager became ill on day 2 and was unavailable to assist us with translating websites for the bus and ferry lines. As such we had to continue to use our car daily.

A group of 8 enjoyed this beautiful villa for a rainy week but that didn’t stop us! The house was wonderful and Luigi couldn’t have been better, checking on us every day and making suggestion and providing information. Rita made us a wonderful lasagna that was waiting for us and warm when we arrived. The public transportation was easy to navigate but the stairs down to Amalfi were our choice to get into the town and most took the bus back up to the villa. Lots of stairs all over the Amalfi coast but after a few days they become a way of life. This was an amazing place with spectacular views and an attentive host which we highly recommend and would be happy to rent again!

I rented this beautiful home for 6 weeks and invited friends to join me throughout my visit. Luigi and family provided amazing daily support and the home, location, gardens and views were everything I hoped for and more.
I loved that the house is off the main road and a 30 minute hike into town. Amalfi can be busy and the location affords you access to all the shopping, restaurants, ferries, and destinations of town and the ability to escape to the quiet of a home and terrace and share a delicious home cooked meal overlooking the Mediterranean prepared from local produce. Can’t wIt to go back

This is a splendid, clean and spacious villa with wonderful views from its rooms and different terraces! We stayed almost a full week here and enjoyed the time spent in the house equally to the time spent exploring the coast.
Luigi and Rita were very friendly and helpful hosts and also cooked us tasty and reasonably priced dinners on two of the evenings.
The villa is great for big groups that want to be in a convenient location with easy access to all the major attractions of the coast. The bus stop is next to the steps that lead down to the villa, but it is also possible to organise with a nearby garage if coming by car.
In summary, this is a great alternative for anyone looking for a comfortable stay when visiting the Amalfi coast! We can warmly recommend it to any future guests!

This was our first trip to Amalfi and we couldn't have chosen a better place. The villa was absolutely lovely, views down to Amalfi and out over the coast were magical, the property was quiet perched high in the lemon groves, we had just a wonderful time! We loved walking down into Amalfi thru the many winding paths each day, and the bus back up was easy and convenient. Luigi was incredibly helpful with recommendations and made our stay go so smoothly. We cannot wait to come back!

We felt like we were Italian celebrities staying in the villa! Sunlight and ocean views streamed though every window in the home. All of the outdoor dining options, the lemon and orange groves, and the fully equipped kitchen were delightful. I would most definitely recommend this home to family and friends!
To note, there were many steps to get to the property (as stated in the listing). This did not impact our party or stay, but just something to consider.

We had 5 lovely days in this villa. As a family of 7, including 3 adult sons and my two parents in their eighties. Lots of stairs and amazing walks. The villa was beautiful, well organised, very clean and plenty of space, with amazing views of Amalfi and the coast. Lots of helpful information supplied by Fredrick and Luigi. Luigi was very well organised and helped with transfers from Naples and then to Salnero. Many thanks to Rita for two lovely Italian home-cooked meals. We found plenty to do, including a tour of Capri organised by Tours of Sorrento. It was great! Really enjoyed walking around Amalfi and the coast, including the Path of the Gods. We had good weather and no rain. We were sad to leave and would like to come back at some stage!

A group of seven of us stayed at this villa. Everything was just as described. House is beautiful with the most amazing views. Owner and property manager were exceptional. Thanks Friedrich and Luigi! So much helpful advice and recommendations made our trip fantastic.
If you have questions about the steps, yes there are a few. If you aren’t in the best of shape, just go slow. I guarantee a few in our group were in better shape when they got home.
The bus comes right to the road at the top of the steps. It was great!

We are a Danish family of 7 who had a fantastic stay in the villa. Had rented cars to be able to visit sights in the area, but only used them to and from the airport and a visit to Pompei. There was plenty to see and experience in the house and in the local area, which could be reached on foot or by local public transport.
Luigi was very helpful and gave us many good tips for local restaurants etc. We would love to return if we get the chance.

What a beautiful and spacious property! We absolutely loved our stay as a group of 6 friends visiting Amalfi for the first time. We came with 2 cars and the only minor issue was there was no free street parking like we thought but parking at Alfonso’s garage was a simple solution. Absolutely stunning!

What a wonderful villa! Beautiful views from the many terraces, we spent many a time gazing into the view. Convenient location to get to Amalfi either by walking or by bus and then could explore further from there.
The villa itself was very well equipped, for all weathers, we had hot sun most of the time with a thunderstorm at the end but plenty of space for either. Clean, tidy and well presented, couldn’t fault it for the Amalfi Coast!
Excellent host with communication prior to the trip and during with Luigi being a wonderful help organising taxi’s, recommended great places to eat locally and on hand for anything you may need to help with your stay.
All in all we had a wonderful stay in the Amalfi Coast, made better by having this Villa as a lovely home away from home for the week. Would highly recommend to groups going away to stay there!

The villa had an amazing view of the coast and is central in Amalfi. It is quite a trek down to the center from the villa, but there is a bus that takes you down as well. Luigi was extremely helpful throughout our time there and great with communication. We had a lovely time at the villa and would recommend it to everyone!

FABULOUS!
Wonderful, WONDERFUL! This is one of the most beautiful houses we have stayed in. The view is just amazing! Yes, Amalfi has a lot of steps, so keep that in mind. You get a workout every day. Nice little grocery store up the hill. Bus service very 1/2 hour, that will take you into Amalfi town. Ferries will take you to other islands. Really no need for a car.
Luigi is really the perfect host!
The house has security cameras on the outside, so no worries on safety there. There are however, also working cameras inside the house. So, we would suggest you don’t walk around naked in the hallways!

We had truly one of the most wonderfull stays in years!
The house is located in such a beautifull spot. A stunning view over the village of Amalfi, the sea with its ever changing colors. Or, looking up, to the rocks, or looking right, the beautifull flowergarden, lemon trees and the little 12 century church.
With its four (!) terraces, there was always a nice spot to stay. Cooler, more or less shade, different view, or same view with different angle.
The house inside was exactly as described, or better? A nice well equiped kitchen, spacious living room, comfortable sofas and spacious bedrooms with comfortable beds. The bathrooms were immaculately clean. Maps and books of the area helping us out.
Friedrich was very helpfull during and after the booking. At site Luigi the same.
We arrived late, so we started with a simple and delicious meal provided by his familiy. Along with some groceries. We couldnt have had a better start.
As for traveling along the Amalfi: we rented a car. We almost didn't use it, We walked into town (a nice 20 minute walk) and took the bus up. Visiting other cities along the coast we did with local transport. However, the car helped us visit Naples and Pompei in the timetable we wanted, so we were happy to have our own car. We would have liked to walk Sentieri dei Degli (also easy to reach by car), but we didnt make it.
We rented a boat. Really a nice way to explore the coast. Do some checking on weather and accessability of the villages by boat. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. We missed out on Positano.
The supermarket on walking distance has some cheeses and meet and almost all non-fresh stuff. But also some vegetables. Depends on the day.
So, concluding, we had a wonderfull stay. Really hope to be back one day!

What a unique location and view. This villa sits in the middle of lemon gardens with an amazing view on Amalfi, sea and coastline great terraces to enjoy. The location is very well equipped and furnished with lots of great antique furniture. Luigi has been amazing, providing support and recommendations and I as well want to call out, that the villa was super clean! We have enjoyed the walk through gardens down to Amalfi.

A villa with a fantastic view of Amalfi. Drinking your morning coffee and looking down over the bay of Amalfi was the best start to the day. The house is very pleasant inside as outdoors. Pick lemons straight from the trees to gin & tonic! We quickly got answers to our questions before the trip by Friedrich, and a very good reception of Luigi when we arrived.
If you find stairs difficult to climb or difficult to climb stairs, avoid Amalfi coast. Stairs everywhere. And it is exactly 662 steps from Amalfi up to the villa, takes about 20-25 minutes to walk in a very beautiful environment. Ravello, Positano and of course Capri are nice destinations that only have to be visited. Dont rent car - go for taxi or bus. You will understand!
