About this house rental
Gorgeous sunsets are what you will see from our beautiful 2 bed, 2 bath, 1100 sq. ft house. Each bedroom both with Queen beds with views out to the garden has its own en suite bathroom making it perfect for 2 couples, families or friends. Both bathrooms have beautiful large rain shower heads one with Marble Carrera tile and the other with lovely glass subway tile. The main room is open concept with the living room, kitchen and dining area all in one. The view is spectacular no matter where you are. The room has vaulted ceilings that overlook the Caribbean Ocean. The house has a very modern, lofty NY look to it with concrete floors, concrete counter tops with beautiful furnishings and beautiful design details throughout. The sunsets sitting on the deck on a couple of gorgeous teak loungers or in the house are spectacular! There is a propane gas grill on the deck where you can grill up your fresh catch of the day right off the rocks at the front of the house. The kitchen comes equipped with a cappuccino maker, blender, fridge, stove and oven and even a dishwasher (no one likes to wash dishes on vacation). You will also find a washer/dryer. We do have a clothes line which I just love to use. The house has brand new ultra quiet energy efficient air conditioner units as well as ceiling fans in main area and bedrooms. Snorkel sets as well as beach towels and beach mats are provided. Please note there is no TV (intentionally) who wants to watch TV when you have a beautiful island to discover. We do however have free wifi which is great for staying in touch.
We have tried to think of everything you need to make your stay comfortable.
Eleuthera is one of those places that you dream of but don't actually think it exists. It is truly one of our favorite places on earth. Eleuthera is a quiet, rural island and the nearby settlement Gregory Town is a sleepy harbour town full of friendly Bahamian natives. The house is situated in Oleander Gardens in a lovely district right next to the Cove Eleuthera Resort.
We definitely recommend renting a car which on the island is done by locals, there is no Budget or Hertz here, this is one of the many charms of the island. With a car you can explore a different beach every day. Let us know if you would like this arranged in advance. Please note that peak seasons get very busy for car rentals so it is always a good idea to arrange this in advance so you are not disappointed.
On the island you won't find big tourist signs, if you see a trail through the bush most likely it leads you to the beach. There is a wonderful book called 'The Elusive Beaches of Eleuthera which you are welcome to use while at the house so you can find all the wonderful beaches on the island (who knows you may just discover your own).
With both the Caribbean and Atlantic Oceans you will find a different beach every day. The lovely pink sand beaches are a definite must see. The house is a 10 minute drive from the world famous Surfers Beach, if you have ever wanted to learn to surf this is the place to do it. Surfing lessons can be arranged on the island, if you are a surfer already you will love this beach. We don't surf but still love going here as it is a great beach to play in the waves. Also a great beach for finding the tiniest little sea shells as well as great sea glass.
For a lovely day trip or a lovely night out you must go to the very chic Harbour Island which is a 15 minute drive to the dock where you will take a 5 minute water taxi the cost for the water taxi is $5.00/person. You will find great restaurants here and depending on the time of year you will find some of the most fantastic yachts moored at the marina.
You won't find any shopping malls or big touristy places on Eleuthera but with all the beaches to explore who needs that. There are quite a few great restaurants on the island, right next door is the wonderful Cove Eleuthera Resort which is very convenient when you don't feel like cooking lunch or dinner at home. Also a few minutes drive south you will find The Laughing Lizard a great lunchtime spot for the best Jerk Chicken wraps or my favorite the Italian Panini and the addictive Banana Smoothie. Fridays is 'Fish Fry' night in Governors Harbour, another must do. Also at Governors Harbour is Tippy's and the Beach House a couple more great restaurants. When you arrive at the house we will leave a guide of places to go and things to do. There is also a lot of information online on Eleuthera.
Please note that we also have the house right next door which is a 3 bed, 2 bath 1800 sq. ft. house see VRBO #495520 for information on this house. Two houses side by side like this is extremely rare on the island making this ideal for wedding parties, family reunions where a large group would like to spend time together and not be separated by having to stay in different parts of the island. Even though the houses are not exactly the same, the look, feel and vibe are very similar and the amenities are the same no matter which house you are in.

Kathy is without a doubt one of the most accommodating hosts we’ve had the pleasure of working with. From suggestions on where to go - to being gracious to let us stay one night (there’s usually a minimum) - to keeping our bags safe until our second stay was ready to check us in…Kathy was gracious. The property was perfect. Beautiful view, great snorkeling right out the back door, great kitchen, wifi…very wonderful. A/C cooled the place down quickly in the evening. And the house is on a road you don’t need a 4x4 to get to :). Highly recommended.

Oleander Gardens House was perfect. My partner and my parents had a few extra days on Eleuthera after a wedding and wanted to do a little relaxation and exploring. This was an amazing home base, but also a home. It felt breezy and spacious for such a small size, and the kitchen was equipped to the gills! Making breakfast on site was easy, and we enjoyed dining, watching the sunset with G&Ts, and stargazing on the balcony. Not to mention, waking up to that ocean view <3

Our family of 4 spent a week here, and we had the most amazing stay. The property is beautiful and the sunrises over the tree line from the dining table were the perfect way to start the day.
From here we had a new adventure every day all across the northern part of Eleuthera. So many amazing places to visit, many of which you could enjoy all to yourself!
Kathy was a lovely host and graciously answered all our many questions.
An incredible trip all around to Eleuthera, and this property was a big part of that.

We loved our time at this property . It’s small, quiet and without much activity . The island is wonderful. No frills , just calm and relaxation. The owners are terrific. We had a question and they were available immediately to help. Highly recommend if you are looking to unplug completely form tv, work and the rest of the world.

We have stayed in Oleander Gardens settlement 3 times now. This rental had the best mattresses & stocked kitchen for cooking thus far! We highly recommend Kathy’s rental and would definitely book again!

Loved working with Kathy and Wallace - we only stayed one night instead of four nights because the mattresses in the beds left all four of us with aching backs.
We actually found two cottages at French Leave and stayed there.
Otherwise the place was as described and well stocked with kitchen utensils and Beach Equipment..

We already miss this place! Morning coffee on the terrace with this view is something we would remember forever. The house is equipped with everything you would ever think of even baking forms! Kitchen accessories are all new, there’s for example huge variety of pans. Can opener is also there. All these small things make cooking easy and fun. Space is clean, well thought and very comfortable (couch, beds). There are even candles and essential oils, so you can relax. Speaking of relax there are mats which you could use for yoga on the terrace. Now about Kathy, which actually should go first. I’ve never met any better host! Kathy is responding very fast, she is willing to help with everything, she and Wallace (house caretaker) helped us with renting a car and our doggie permit to come to Bahamas. There are not enough thank you to actually say “thank you” to these two. THANK YOU!

We stayed at Kathy and Erin’s for almost 10 days. Perfect North Eleuthera location for remote windswept getaway, sooooo laid back, beaches everywhere. But less than 30 minutes you’re on Harbour Island for a buzz. The house is an oasis. Pictures dont do justice.

This magnificent house is elegantly simple, open, modern, comfortable, and with its placement right on the water, has the best sunsets off its expansive deck. We just loved it and highly recommend this house for up to 6 people (3 bedrooms).

Absolutely beautiful. Kathy is a wonderful host, extremely communicative, prompt and helpful. The House is so spacious and incredibly well equipped. The views are extraordinary. The neighborhood is quiet, peaceful and safe. The snorkeling off the cliffs is just beautiful and the little beach to the south is as beautiful as anything you would see in the Mediterranean. Highly recommend this house and area for a very unique and amazing experience on the gorgeous island of freedom, Eleuthera. We can’t wait to return.

We were literally on the first plane to arrive at North Eleuthera Airport after the Bahamian government reopened the island. (We were amazed at how many people didn't actually READ the requirements for entry and were therefore slowed or denied entry.) Since we were such "early adopters," we realized that not all would be open, but it wasn't much of a problem. I'm sure that they will continue to open restaurants and stores more and more, especially as more tourists come. (We also opted on a few evenings to BBQ on the outdoor grill that worked just fine.) As far as the house, it was very pleasant and comfortable. The addition of a full-sized washer and dryer was a welcome surprise in a beach cottage. Everything about the cottage has been designed with the beach in mind, including the polished cement floors that were easy to sweep, the cement countertops, the layout that afforded great views of the Caribbean Sea from the main, open living room-dining alcove and kitchen. We really appreciated all the "creature comforts" that the owners keep stocked for guests...it's harder when one rents a place that is stripped bare of any essentials. Especially during these times when it can be hard to obtain the essentials. The owners provide a very helpful "guide" of things to do and see. Eleuthera is a beach-lovers paradise. If you're looking for a lot of nightlife, forget it. (Especially with the current COVID 9 pm curfew.) I suspect fishing is also popular, judging by the number of guides/trips advertised, but we didn't do any fishing on this trip. We especially enjoyed the easy ferry ride over to Harbour Town where there are lots of restaurants, more beaches and bars. I never shopped, so I can't comment on that. Finally, you will also appreciate the helpful hints from the owner. Kathy helped us navigate the ever-changing entry rules that the Bahamian government established in order to re-open, yet hopefully keep their residents safe from the virus. Be sure to rent a car (the owner can arrange that); Eleuthera is a very long, skinny island and you need a car! Enjoy!

Great house, very clean, cosy, silent, leave the lights on fore night return. Also be careful coming down the stairs there are some loose planks. You need a rental car to go around. Closest restaurant is the Cove hotel but very expensive and 20 min walking distance. Overall great house.

We really enjoyed our stay in Oleander Gardens. Kathy is responsive and extremely helpful. The house is as advertised--beautiful view of the water and sunsets. You will definitely need to rent a car, but we had no issues renting from Wallace (per Kathy's recommendation). It takes a little getting used to Eleuthera prices (so expensive!), but we had some wonderful meals on the island. The only downside to the house is that it is not walkable to a great beach, but we had no issues driving around the island exploring other beaches.

We just got back from a wonderful week vacation and destination wedding at the Cove Resort. All we can say is WOW. Everything about the house from the simplistic detail, to the view and the location on the island were perfect and exactly as shown.
Kathy was a dream to work with and always replied quickly and with detail. For larger groups - the house next door along with this house would a killer setup for groups traveling together.
We would undoubtedly stay here again.

We have stayed in a number of homes in the area and this house is by far the most relaxing and comfortable places we have stayed. Bright and airy, it is such a peaceful retreat after full days out exploring the wild beaches and beauty of Eleuthera. The kitchen is equipped for easy, vacation cooking. Beach towels and snorkel gear are provided. Our trip was a perfect holiday escape and this house made it a very memorable trip. Wallace, the caretaker, welcomed us at the airport and was available throughout our stay if we needed anything. We highly recommend this island and home for those looking for a great vacation with teenagers, we all loved it.

We absolutely loved this rental house. This house is right next door to the other rental and right around the corner from the Cove. The decor is contemporary and clean. We loved our time here and would book again in a heart beat! Highly recommend!!!

Our family of 4 had a fantastic stay in the beautiful Oleander Gardens cottage. The home was clean, beautifully decorated, and perfectly situated for our activities. Kathy was responsive and gracious in helping us make our plans. The home, the amazing beaches, the restaurants (Laughing Lizard, Daddy Joes...) and the vacation overall were everything we were looking for.
We had so many adventures and have wonderful memories of our visits with Wallace, Ponytail Pete, Miss Veronica & many more wonderful people. We would absolutely go back to Eleuthera (we also visited Nassau, Paradise Island, Harbor Island) and would rent from this owner again. Thank you so much!

Perfect vacation on a magical island! The house itself was lovely with gorgeous water views that simply were mesmerizing. We particularly loved the modern clean feel of the decor inside the home. Very well done, and not one complaint, except when we had to leave the island. If you are lucky enough to visit Eleuthera, you will absolutely not be disappointed with this house.
