About this house rental
Hawaii Tax I.D for both TAT & GET. No. 027-702-8864-01
Our oceanfront home, Kawela Kai, is located on the North Shore of Oahu in between Sunset Beach and the Turtle Bay Resort. The stretch of beach where we are located is beautifully secluded and uncrowded. The beach is protected by a coral reef.
The house is an air conditioned, cozy, two-bedroom, single-family home with it's own yard. It is furnished with a fully-equipped kitchen and all linens. The house has been upgraded and includes; granite counters, soft close cabinets and drawers in the kitchen, stainless steel appliances, crown molding throughout, and plantation shutters. There is one queen and two single beds. The house is not high-end fancy. If you are looking for luxurious accommodations, our house is NOT for you. It is clean, cozy, and cared for lovingly. For your convenience, we offer wireless internet access.
The house has a lovely covered lanai for protection from the sun or if you are a sun lover, there is a nice grassy area between the house and the ocean where you can soak up the sun. During the winter months and early spring, you may have the opportunity to see the humpback whales that migrate from Alaska. If the surf is not too high, you may see the whales breathing and breaching right from the lanai. Other wildlife may be seen from the lanai; such as birds, turtles, rays, Hawaiian monk seals, and the occasional surfer.
There is a washer and dryer available for your use during your stay. As with many oceanfront homes on the North Shore, we are located on the road that goes around the island, so the bedrooms may experience some traffic noise at different times of the day.
The house sits about 18 feet above the beach. Access to the beach is via steps in the sea wall. Good mobility is required for the steps down to the ocean. Other access to the beach from the house is two to three houses down the road by the beach park. Directly in front of the house is a flat rocky/sandstone surface with sandy beach further away to the right and the left of the house. Access to the water directly in front of the house is over a sandstone surface, and a lava/coral shelf.
It is recommended that only those very comfortable in the ocean access the water in front of the house. Experienced ocean swimmers may swim, snorkel, and surf in front of the house during the months from late spring through early fall, but because we are on the North Shore, when the surf is up it is not safe for inexperienced swimmers just about anywhere on the North Shore.
During the winter months, the powerful awesome large surf on the North Shore is tremendously exciting to watch. We are located two miles from Sunset Beach, three miles from Pipeline, and five miles from Waimea Bay. These three beaches are world famous for the large surf and surfing competitions. Even if you do not surf, it is exhilarating to watch!
We are located ten miles from historic Haleiwa town which offers a variety of shops and restaurants. We are about a mile from the championship golf courses at the Turtle Bay Resort.
We do not rent our house out for parties, weddings, or any other type of gatherings. The maximum number of people, including babies and children, allowed is a total of four.
NOTE: Due to the City and County of Honolulu vacation rental ordinance Bill 89 settlement agreement, our property is a legally established dwelling that is rented for periods of 30 consecutive days or more at any one time. Questions or dates unavailable? Click on the "Ask owner a question" button.

The house was as advertised. Great ocean view, comfortable beds, and good shower pressure. We loved the miles and miles of walking trails at Turtle Bay. Walking near the house was hard because of the busy highway running behind the property. The owners were quick to reply with the small issues we had. The kitchen does need to have more plates and silverware added. So nice to have access to a washer and dryer. The giant waves and surf competitions were fun to see.

This property is in the ideal location. Oceanfront, near snorkel spots and great beaches. I haven't seen this mentioned in any of the reviews, but it is near Kahuku golf course. A very nice 9 hole oceanside course. Very unpretentious and relatively inexpensive compared to other courses in Hawaii for non residents. The beach in front of the home is a little hard to get down to as the listing mentions, but not horrible. There are nice tidepools to explore and you can actually walk several miles down the beach if you so desire. The owner is very responsive for a small issue that we had.

A average rental property that will do the job but not much else. How it got so many 5 star reviews baffles me. I guess people who have never used a great rental do not know the difference between so-so rentals and good ones. If you choose this rental, just know that the beach below it is unusable. Nice to look at, but not to enjoy. The owners clearly state that, but you will need to go elsewhere for true beach enjoyment. All the appliance work fine, but you will need to bring almost everything else besides what the owners state is included. So the bottom line is this: This is a RENTAL unit, not someone's home. There are very few extras, (as the owner states) unlike a very well appointment home rental. Just go into this unit with low expectations and you will be fine. Have fun!

Sunsets By The Ocean
Right on the ocean with beautiful sunsets just about every evening. Loved listening to the ocean. Kitchen well equipped. Bed was comfortable. Close by famous beaches. Saw 16 ft waves at the Pipeline. Lots to do nearby and driving a short distance. Beautiful walks everyday! Great food nearby. We are vegan and there were a lot of places with delicious food which is sometimes hard to find!
We could have spent another month!
Also our host was available to answer any questions immediately. LOVED our stay here!

Cozy oceanfront cottage
Cozy oceanfront cottage. This cottage was well equipped and very comfortable for three guests in December. it is not located next to a good swimming beach but the views are incredible of the ocean and waves breaking on the reef. Beautiful back lawn and lanai for sunbathing and ocean gazing.

Wonderful vacation!
The property is lovely with a spectacular view. It's in a great location close to all of the things we were interested in seeing in the North Shore area. The owners were attentive and responsive to any need or concern. We definitely recommend this place and want to book it again. Thank you so very much!

Perfect for our stay
We stayed a week, myself and two teen granddaughters. Lovely little house on the beach. The view was great and we could walk to a sandy area for swimming and sun bathing.
Wish there were stairs down to shore. It was a climb over some rocks but all worked ok.
We loved it!

Great Stay - Just as described
Owners sent a detailed email letting us know how to get to the property and once we arrived, everything was just as described and looked online. I loved sitting out on the back porch and listening to the water early in the mornings! Would definitely stay here again!

On Highway a bit tricky at times
If you're looking for just the basics with an ocean view - this fits the bill.
You pull off the highway into the driveway which is a challenge sometimes.
North shore was Great.

Excellent!
Amid COVID-19 crisis, power outage, etc. it was enjoyable place to stay. One suggestion is more toilet paper inventory at the house, but should not be major problem in normal time.

Loved the property and location
We loved the house and it’s location!! The views were amazing. We had an issue with dishes and silverware being dirty. The microwave was also not clean. Contacted the owners and they were very gracious and explained the problem. This issue was resolved. The overall experience was amazing! I would definitely recommend this property to anyone. If you want a great Hawaiian get away rent this property!!

Just perfect!
This is a very nice house in an amazing location... we just could not get enough of sitting on the terrace and enjoying the beach front... the house has also all the amenities and is very comfortable... There is a foodland and many food trucks close by which makes it very easy to get good meals without a long drive.

We had an awesome visit. All went well! House was nice with some upgrades. Perfect location!
All went smooth from start to finish. Perfect location. To watch the waves or drive down the road to watch even bigger waves and surfing. The house is very near the main road, so constant traffic all day and night might be a bit noisy for light sleepers. I bring earplugs when I travel so all good for me. Very peaceful otherwise to sit in backyard or on the porch. We really enjoyed our stay with the house in such great proximity to north shore restaurants, shopping and scenery.

Perfect North Shore Location
The property is perfect for staying on the North Shore. I went to see the PipeMaster and house is located between the contest and Turtle Bay- you will end up stopping over there. A gas station is near. The house it self has everything you would need and more. The owners were easy to work with and contact. I would 100% go back!!!

Absolute Gem!
I recently rented this vacation home for a week stay in Haleiwa and I can’t recommend it enough. Well-kept, comfortable and in a great location, you’re minutes away from beaches, food trucks and scenic views. This place is exactly what you’re looking for if you want to be away from the hectic pace of Waikiki but still live the island life. Absolutely a perfect place! Mahalo!

Perfectly Lovely
We has a wonderful time on Oahu and our stay at this house was no exception. Right down the road, Kawela Bay is a beautiful spot for sunbathing, snorkeling, and spotting sea turtles. Loved the convenience to restaurants, popular North Shore spots, and the relative privacy of the home compared to other spots on the island. It is a immaculate, beautiful home! We saw sunsets and rainbows from the front porch. Hope we can come back on day.

Great place
We enjoyed the days in this pretty house very much. We were two adults and two children, and the size of the house was perfect. Beautiful location, but for swimming in the sea you have to walk along the beach.

Cozy getaway but beware of vehicle break ins
Everything about the home was wonderful and enjoyed completely until the last day when our rental car got broken into at the parking area. We are so thankful for the people staying next door who came to tell us. They also informed us that the previous people that stayed in their unit got their bags stolen too. According to the officer and rental car manager, this time of year, theft and break in rates are high. Please make sure to not leave anything in the car to tempt thieves!

Beautiful View and sound of the Waves
My family of 3, my husband, me and our 10 year old daughter, enjoyed out stay here very much. She could do her gymnastics out on the grass while we sat and watched the sun set. You could hear the waves all day and night, what a glorious sound. A perfect place if you like to relax. We recommend the Climb Works Zip line close by, if you like that kind of thing. It was the best part of the trip beside having a glass of wine on the deck and watching the sunset. We did bring games, but they do have a nice collection there at the house too.

Great Stay!
House was immaculate! Really appreciated how clean and well stocked everything was. Nice to be off the beaten path and away from the chaos and traffic down the road near Sunset Beach - we had easy access to stores and food nearby. Air Conditioning was a huge plus! Views were amazing - saw an amazing sunset sitting on the Lanai - WOW!

Beautiful property
This 2 bedroom is great for a small group. The house smelled fresh and was as clean as it could be. It was well appointed and had a great view from everywhere in the ocean side of the house and the lanai was very large.
The view was Spectacular, we saw breaching whales and turtles everyday. The snorkeling was accessible next to the property and tide pooling was everywhere in this area. Close to all the surfing beaches and great restaurants in the North Shore. We will be back.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed the property, right on a secluded beach and across the street from a horse ranch. The covered deck and sunsets were amazing.

Very beautiful! Property was exactly as described. We were able to relax on the lanai and listen to the ocean waves. Loved being able to walk along the beach. Awesome sunsets! Would highly recommend!

Relax and enjoy!
As we entered the house for the first time and walked out on the lanai, a humpback whale came straight up completely out of the water! What a welcoming! We saw blows and breaching all week. Although in the winter the waters are not as calm for snorkeling the trade off was worth it. I prepare meals myself using local fresh fish and the amazing tropical fruits. There is everything you need for cooking and a relaxing vacation. Close to everything you need. The owners describe the property very accurately and there are no surprises. You won’t be disappointed!

Love this property! February 1-11,2019
Incredible stay at Kawela Kai In February. Great communication with the owners. Perfect location. We watched so many whales from the awesome lanai. We enjoyed the lanai in all the weather. Perfect for 2. Kitchen was well supplied. Nice Refrig. Very Clean with beautiful quilts and pictures. Great WiFi. Appreciated the AC immensely. Trying to get down the steps to the beach was scary for me. My friend was like a goat going up and down. Easier to get up the boulders than down. We had such a wonderful time. It was so hard to leave! Don’t hesitate to rent this house! We hope to return next year! Thank you!

My daughters and I stayed at this great beach house in May. Lenae and Lori were easy to work with and responsive. We loved the gorgeous views of the ocean! The house was very clean and the yard was manicured. We enjoyed the entertainment of the two chicken families that would daily cross the yard by the back deck. We have backyard chickens so it was fun to watch the chicken mamas with their babies! It was a great location to explore the North Shore, and Haleiwa town and beaches all were in easy driving distance. We had fun walking down to the beach below and walked it both directions. We spent time watching the fish and crabs in the tide pools. We had no trouble keeping cool and loved listening and watching the ocean waves! I would highly recommend this place and definitely would stay again!

We had a fantastic stay. Lenae and Lori were thoroughly responsive and helpful both before and during our time on the North Shore. The house fit our family of 4 just fine - and we used it mainly just to rest after a long day of adventure or as our connection to the rocky beach below the house. Updated kitchen is wonderful, even if cooking gear is what you'd expect for a rental beach property. We appreciated being able to use beach equipment stored at the house, and the use of laundry facilities really came in handy. A friendly, happy, welcoming spot.

My son and I stayed at this fantastic beach front home for 12 days. This beach home is beautiful, clean and comfortable. This home is so clean, and decorated island style. I enjoyed beach combing every day ( the beach front is so beautiful with easy access) It is a perfect location, next to pristine beaches, shopping and a short drive to Honolulu (if you like the big city). My son and I love the slower paced life, Kahuku and Haleiwa were our personal favorite little towns. I highly recommend this vacation home! I would return in a heartbeat!

Lenae and Lori are wonderful to deal with. They provided detailed instructions on the rental and info about the area the rental is located. The home is well maintained and very clean. This was my 3rd trip to the north shore of Oahu and this by far my favorite. Frankly i don't even think the pictures do this perfectly located rental justice. We watched whales in the am as we ate breakfast on the lanai, that overlooks the picture perfect pacific ocean. You will just be a few miles away from the best beaches of the north shore. Sunset beach is the closest and when the surf is calm you can enjoy a nice day at the beach in the water or just walking down the 7 mile miracle which is a stretch of unbelievable beaches and during the winter world famous surf breaks. You can spend your days swimming, snorkeling, surfing or going for a hike to a waterfall. Or just relax and soak up the sun! I would recommend this property to family or friends as long as they aren't trying to book it when I'm going back. I will most certainly rent this property again.
