Bear Haven is the perfect cabin in the woods for year-round indoor and outdoor fun.
Located near the south base of Homewood ski area, Lagoon Road is family friendly, close to the bike path and backs up to forest! In summer enjoy our full membership of Chamber's Pool, Beach and Tennis Club. In winter, walk down the road to ski and back to the house through the woods for lunch or at the end of the day! Our rustic getaway backs up to open space, hike, mountain bike, snowshoe or x-country ski from the house depending on the season!
Three level A-frame cabin with a remodeled kitchen: new cabinets, double oven, counters, refrigerator gas cooktop and dishwasher. New double vanity in the master bath. Always trying to make improvements to the house so our guests will have an enjoyable stay.
Great house for any season! BEAR HAVEN is the perfect home to gather family and friends for your year-round fun and wildlife viewing. The house is 3 levels: 1st floor has mud room, game room, master (king bed), full bath and laundry room. The 2nd floor has open living room/kitchen, bedroom (queen and twin), 3/4 bath, large front deck and back deck with new spa and 5 burner gas grill BBQ. 3rd floor has two bedrooms (queen and full beds in front; queen and twin beds in back) These share a 1/2 bath, and each has a small deck.
WINTER: Enjoy a 4-day weekend, our guests love to ski at uncrowded Homewood Mountain Resort (walk or ski down Lagoon Road to the South base); then ski into the backyard for intermediate skiers, depending of course on snow conditions. The ski area has lots of promotions for lift tickets, check their website skihomewood.
SNOWPLOWING, we are on the regular schedule for snow plowing, however the contractor has up to 300 homes to plow. If there is a big storm when you arrive you may have to move snow to get into the house. The street plowing may create a berm in front of the driveway
Spring and fall are the best in Tahoe, crowds are gone and wildlife abounds. Park your car and bike or hike in the woods right out the back yard or down the bike path. Our families build natural forts right out the back! Walk or bike to the General Store in Homewood or along the bike path to the beach and Tahoma amenities. Very quiet and peaceful.
Relax in the private hot tub or by one of the warm wood fireplaces!
Summer rentals are weekly with long weekends available early and late. Rates include the famous Chamberlands Club with private beach, pool and tennis courts (about a mile away along the bike path). Dates of operation: Father's Day weekend through Labor Day; 10:30-5:30 (Lifeguard staffing)
Shuttle Bus Service approximately July 1st-August 20th 11:00-6:30pm and passes right in front of Bear Haven. Grandma, grandpa and the young ones can come and go while the older kids hang out at the beach all day!
Guests to the west shore are often confused about the summer amenities here: The amenities are actually two memberships, one to the Chamberlands Beach and Mountain Club which maintains the two private beaches with roped swim areas, lifeguards and summer day and evening family activities. The second is the Chamberlands Recreation Club which includes and maintains entrance to the private heated pool with lifeguards, lounges and private restrooms. The private pool and beaches are integrated into a public pier, bar and restaurant right on the lake.
The origin of these clubs can be confusing. Upon developing the Chamberlands condominiums about 35 years ago, the adjacent homes in Chamberlands I and II were offered a chance to purchase a membership in one or both clubs. The opportunity for the pool/tennis club was once in a lifetime and is linked to the specific home's title. At this time, most homes in Chamberlands maintain a membership in the Beach and Mountain Club, while only a portion of homes have access to the pool and tennis facilities with a hefty yearly fee. We have both. This part of the lake also has a forest service pet-friendly public portion of beach available to other homes in the area (Ex: Tahoma, McKinney, Homewood) which is on the southern edge of this sandy beach area of Lake Tahoe.
We have a camera at the front of the house so we can see the road, trash area and driveway. (for construction parking, trash by the road and snow in the winter).

Did not use hot tub nor private beach access but accommodations were good. Twin bed main floor mattress not good and third floor front bedroom bed closest to hall not good but all others were comfortable

Great house for kids and dogs. Game room was a hit and the access to Chambers was as amazing. Great location. House was fully stocked. Would definitely rent again!

We stayed at Bear Haven in Homewood in early July 2024. There were 8 adults and 3 children in our group. We fit very comfortably. The kitchen was well-equipped for us to do all the cooking we had planned. There were more than enough dishes. The host has supplied the cabin with space heaters and fans, and we used both since it was quite cool for the first few days, then heated up drastically toward the middle of the week. There is also bear spray and a bear horn kept on top of the fridge, but we didn't see any signs of bears. The host responded to a couple of questions very quickly.
The best thing about this cabin was access to the private beach and pool. Anyone who has visited Tahoe recently knows the beaches are so crowded that it's impossible to find a spot (and the lake water is very cold!). The private access made a huge difference. Some of us were pool people and others were bea

This home was lovely for a multi family gathering. The kitchen was well stocked, there were baby gates to keep children and our pup contained. The outdoor porches added to the overall living space and we spent evenings breaking bread and making memories. The hot tub was a bonus after a long day of hiking. The teens enjoyed evening playing pool and ping pong. Would highly recommend this home.

Debbie and Dan responded to inquiries quickly. When we arrived the hot tub was super gross (solids floating it it and stuff growing on the walls of the tub). They sent the hot tub guy same day but it had ruined it for us bc it was just too nasty to get in after seeing it lol. It was a slight bummer bc my brother in law had never been in one and was really looking forward to it. The cabin was great for a place to crash after playing at the lake all day. It’s older (carpets look pretty rough ) but we anticipated that compared to the prices of other cabins. Showers worked well and the kitchen had lots of dishes etc. I brought my own linens and towels and if stains on these items bug you I recommend you bring your own as well. It’s a very quiet neighborhood and we all had a great family trip. The location of the cabin is great, right down the road from awesome swim spots. I never found the key that was suppose to provide access to the the private beaches the listening specified but that was okay bc there were plenty of places to go.

We had a wonderful stay at Bear Haven. Debbie & David are exceptional hosts. We did not have a single glitch. The location is perfect. We were able to hike, sightsee, paddleboard & observe wildlife. The ten of us were able to spend high quality family time together. A highlight was momma bear & her two cubs that we saw on several occasions. While maintaining Debbie & Dave's "Bear Aware" advice we experienced zero issues. We would love to do a family-week in mid to late summer to enjoy all Lake Tahoe has to offer.

We enjoyed the cabin with my kids, nephews, sister and parents and created a lot of great memories playing ping pong, pool and board games. The hot tub was a hit with our teens also! We stayed over a spring break in April and there was a lot of snow to play in. The cabin was just as pictured. Kitchen is very well stocked and we had everything we could have needed and then some.

The cabin was in a great location for our family to enjoy the sights around Lake Tahoe and the hiking trails right out the back door were lovely and convenient. The kitchen was well stocked for everything we needed to make a Thanksgiving dinner and more. The three levels spread the family out nicely. The baby gates were a very welcome addition to protect our two toddler grandchildren from the stairs. We also enjoyed the pool table and ping pong. The only downside to our trip to Bear Haven was a stomach flu my son came down with over the weekend and ended up sharing with me. Packing up and traveling 8 hours home was a tough challenge. I do recommend this location and cabin for families visiting Lake Tahoe!

The cabin was very nice inside. We had plenty of room for out extended family of 4 parents, 2 grandparents, and 4 teens. Spent most of our time near Chambers and Sunnyside, and the public beach area at Chambers. We love that area.

We had 6 adults and 4 kiddos under 5. The bedroom layout worked perfectly for us. We all had our space if needed. We used the beach and pool almost daily. A great perk. Kitchen very well stocked. Lots of books and movies for all. The gameroom was such fun for the adults and kids. We did have an issue with the hot tub not working. The hosts did all they could to get it working for our stay. There are a lot of steep stairs. Something to consider if you have little ones. Gates are provided, but they are older. We figured out a way to make it work! We made the best memories there as a family. I would definitely come back!

Bear Haven is a wonderful property and we had a great stay. This place is well stocked with toiletries, kitchen supplies and other items that make your stay enjoyable. The kitchen and living areas are well appointed with room for all. Saw one bear wandering the neighborhood to the delight of the grandkids. Plenty of parking too.

Our family of 4 stayed at bear haven during the 4th of July week of 2023. The house was perfect for our stay. We enjoyed all of the space and it was set up perfectly. You can sleep a lot more than 4 people comfortably. There was enough bathroom space for everyone.
The bedding was comfortable and clean. The house was as described. The internet was decently fast, the kitchen was well stocked, and plenty of games to entertain. The lower-level game room was great for watching movies and playing ping pong or pool. The hot tub works great and is amazing to relax in at the end of the day. The washer and dryer are high capacity and work amazing.
We will for sure rent this property again in the future as it was such a great experience. We felt it was a great location for doing things all around the lake. It was 30 mins to either North or South Tahoe with plenty to do close by.
A few things did not work while we were there. The outside flood lights did not function but the owner was aware and an electrician was coming to fix the issue the day we left. Also, both DVD players did not work which was a bummer with the great movie selection there was. This was communicated to the owner and it will be taken care of.
It was the middle of summer and there were some ants but there was some bug/ant spray that worked great. The driveway is very steep so having an SUV is a good idea.
Overall we loved our stay and the communication was amazing. We will be back for sure!! Thanks!!!

This is a good house in a great neighborhood. The downstairs game room is really fun for families with kids. My son loved playing pool and ping pong. The hot tub is also so lovely. Having access to Chamber Landing beach and pool club was so nice. There’s so much to love- the proximity to the bike path and water sports rental spots. The only downsides to the house are that due to the nature of the house, you can hear a lot from one room to the next. If you’re on the 2nd floor, you can hear conversations and footsteps in the 3rd floor rooms. Even the heating and the spa pump echo through the rooms. Not great for light sleepers. Also we killed about 5 spiders in our week long stay. But that’s what happens when you rent a house in the woods. Finally- the house next door is under construction and looks like it won’t finish anytime soon. While the noise didn’t bother us, it would have been nice to know this prior to arrival. Some people might object to construction workers being present 7am-5pm within 10 feet of the front door.

Our family of two couples and two single adult children had more than enough space in this property! The house was clean and the hot tub hot! It was about a half hour drive to Palisades, 15 min to Tahoe City, and a little over an hour from Reno. It is very close to Homewood but don't plan to ski in and ski out… its too far for that. Also if Tahoe is expecting snow be prepared to shovel your way in and out of the driveway…nobody’s fault, the snowplow for the road plows you in and their personal snowplow person isn’t able to be there on demand. Also the driveway is a hill so be prepared to haul stuff up and down the hill in the winter as even all wheel drive cant get up the hill. Four wheel or all wheel drive was a must for the back roads to get to the house. All in all though a great place to rent and we would recommend to anyone.

This is the perfect cabin for your getaway on Tahoe’s west shore. The 3 stories fit our group very well, with space to spread out. Cable TVs throughout and high speed wifi were appreciated so we could enjoy nature without being completely unplugged. There was an issue with the wifi while we were there but Dan was quick to reply and fixed the problem quickly and made things right. The driveway is quite steep so we couldn’t park at the top in the heavy snow, but it made for a fun sled hill for us with our small children. Cute cabin and great communication will bring us back here again.

We love coming to this cabin! It’s big enough for the entire family without feeling crammed. It has games galore and is surrounded by beautiful nature & only a short walk to the water. We’ve stayed twice now, and will definitely be back in the future

Overall the property was good. The location is really good, especially if you love the west shore, and in particular Meeks Bay. The property had nice amenities...the wi-fi was the best we've experienced in any Tahoe rental. The property owners were amazing to work with and very responsive to questions and requests.

Tahoe is absolutely beautiful. We so enjoyed Bear Haven 🐻. It was very comfortable and the owners of the cabin have been the best, we've experienced, to work with. Great memories were created. I'm grateful for opportunities like this... and to be with my amazing family. Thank you for allowing us to use your warm, comfortable place.

We had a great stay at Bear house. The house is well equipped and allowed our group to spread out. The house does need some updating, some examples; the couches are not comfortable and the main one is being held up by pieces of wood, the fridge has broken drawers, old TVs (with vcrs) and lots of carpet. The location was nice in Homewood, and about a 10 minute drive to Tahoe city. The hosts were great with communication, and overall we enjoyed our stay.

Perfect Family Cabin
Great cabin with lots of space for sleeping and spreading out for various activities. As much as we wanted to see some bears, following all of the property bear safe rules was the way to go and kept us all safe and no bears were cited.

Bear Haven lives up to its name!
Our small family had a great time away from the bustle of the Bay Area. Staying during the week made for an amazing, peaceful experience. We took our pups, and they behaved quite well, and enjoyed their time walking with us through the neighborhood. Unfortunately, the snow is on its way out, given the lack of precipitation and warmer temperatures, but it didn't affect our ability to rest up and enjoy some outdoor time as a family.
We were visited by a black bear on Wednesday morning, after placing the trash from the bear box out for the trash collectors. It seems the bear knew when trash collection day was, because he was right on time, given we placed the trash out just after 8am and the trash truck coming through a little after 9am. We got some pics of the bear. The bear wandered back behind the house after being barked at from the upstairs patio by the dogs, and it then proceeded to make its way away from the home.
At no time did we NOT feel safe from the wildlife. We stayed "Bear Aware", made sure to keep our vehicle free of food and placed all food trash in the bear box upon leaving. It really was a relaxing vacation.
We enjoyed spending some family time playing table tennis, catching some movies together, spending some time skiing and cooking indoors. All in all, a great experience. And I must say, the neighborhood is quite lovely, and the neighbors we saw on our walks with the dogs were very friendly. The location was spectacular. Visiting during the week made the visit even better, because East Southlake Tahoe was very quiet, as were the slopes. I don't know what I'd change about our visit, because we really had a wonderful time.
