Needs dehumidifier in basment. Chairs for fire. Was a place to lay our heads

The bathroom was not cleaned at all (I have photos) there was a shelf in one of the bedrooms where all sorts of camera could have been! There was ONE A/C unit in ONE bedroom. The living room was warm. When we left & returned there was a truck in the drive, there was no one in the house (thankfully) the owner said it was the yard caretaker - we looked all around & NEVER saw anyone?? The truck stayed there for about 2 hours after we returned. There was a HUGE cobweb right by the front door. There were instructions to NEVER enter the basement-unless we must use these bathroom or the washer & dryer. I would like to talk with someone from VRBO - I am not sure this is a house you want on your listings? I have photos to share.

Nice house with easy access.

Allen the owner communicated with me via phone text and voice (which was much easier than the cumbersome VRBO online communication), and guided me through getting in to the house and some of the specifics like the attic fan etc. This house was awesome for us to gather at before my family reunion. Several cousins along with their children and grandchildren were able to come over for a cookout in the back yard. We also were able to heat up dishes for our family reunion. And due to the flooding our family reunion was relocated to the park 1 block away from the house making this an ideal location.
Allen knew a number of my family members and even told me stories about them I had not heard, making the Homestead the perfect place to stay for a reunion.
I really enjoyed talking to Allen and consider him a great host and a friend. I hope I get to stay here again.

The location was perfect for our extended weekend. The house hosted us comfortably, we were able to spread out and relax during the storms. Our family thanks Allen for graciously allowing us to stay.

The bathroom sink didn't drain well at all. the rugs in house you easily slipped on. the bathroom had an awful urine smell. had to wash all pots, bowls, and utensils before use. curtains very dirty and spider webs every where. front screen door to side of street would not latch. had to brace with block during the wind storm

On arriving at this property it appears to be quite nice for an older property. There are a few issues though. Hopefully the owner will work them out soon so other people don’t have to experience them. We had quite a few plumbing issues while we were there. The air conditioner also leaked water in the floor. The owner was very nice on the phone, but when it wasn’t sure he was going to be able to get the plumbing fixed and it was a weekend, we decided to move onto another place. We had been there one night without plumbing and we left a night early. We were only refunded one night and not even a full night at that. So while there are some very positive attributes… Beautiful little town, the house could be really cute,(perhaps a really deep cleaning and decluttering of personal hygiene items, etc would help), unless he gets some of the physical issues worked out then he probably doesn’t need to be renting it. FYI the description lists the basement with a handicapped accessible bathroom, but it clearly says when you get there that the basement is off-limits. So having one party that uses a walker and depending on being able to have that part of the facility was also not a plus for us.

Overall things were fine. I just want to mention a couple things I would suggest. No crazy about having to pay extra for insurance of your personal items. Might want to get all the lights working as they should be. Larger TV's are cheap and set up a simple way to view. Very clumsy. I didn't come there to watch tv but it would be nice to at least check the news and weather? Parking was great!!

The house was very clean and plenty of room for my group. The house has a nice big back yard and is close to the river and shopping. I works definitely stay there again. The owner reached out to me to make sure we knew the sleeping situations and how to get the best experience out of the house. Good stay!

Quaint Home Away From Home
The check-in was super easy, the house was everything we needed. We spent a week staying in the home. It had more than everything we needed.
The house is very charming, definitely reminds you of your Grandparents home. Brought smiles of nostalgia.
The location is perfect. Close to downtown, river and restaurants, yet far enough away to be peaceful. Even the trains weren’t noisy.
Thank you Allen for your hospitality. We enjoyed our stay immensely.

Great family vacation, including s'mores around the fire ring!
This was great for my family. We had 7 of us here, ages 8-47.
Two campfire dinners, cooked over the fire ring in the yard, with hot dogs (one flavor for each night) on sticks and s'mores. We bought fire wood from the bar 2 blocks away.
My 8 year old loved the train conductors tooting at him! Two short, quiet blocks away were tracks, but we couldn't really hear the trains inside.
Play ground a block away.
This is 20-ish minutes from Wyalusing State Park. We did canoeing and watched the spectacular sunset there, after a short exhilarating hike to a cave!
The 3 bedrooms were as described so we had 2 boys sleep in the living room, one on each couch.
The pro for us - the fire ring,
the quiet community,
2 full bathrooms,
the price,
the oppurtinty for a good family vacation.

House
The house is very old. The basement musty and damp.
Kitchen area faucet barely had water coming in. Expired food items in cabinet and freezer. Refrigerator dirty. Bathroom sink drain some what clogged and leaking stool tank. Plus other issues. Needs a lot of cleaning. Can't recommend

Met Our Needs
The house is old (like grandma's house) but it had everything we needed for our stay and was fairly clean. The beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked great! There were five of us staying, and the price for our group was unbeatable. The extra large driveway was a bonus! Will definitely consider staying again!

As Advertised
The property was fully as advertised and was plenty adequate for our group/stay. Quiet neighborhood was appreciated too.

Older home in quiet neighborhood
Like going to grandma's house, complete with creaky floors and eclectic/antique decor. Nothing fancy but accommodations were fine. Comfy beds. Good communication by the host. Great location to bike from and an easy drive to Wyalusing State Park.

Only slept here
Allen was very accommodating and helpful. However, perhaps because he is far away and has sentimental attachment to the house and its contents, it is difficult for him to be aware or unbiased on its cleanliness and odor.

Very convenient for my whole family
It was great to have a property like this to stay in while in town for a local wedding. Instead of renting two hotel rooms, my adult children and I could all stay together, have our own bedrooms, and all the convenience of a full kitchen to cook breakfast, be able to hang out together in the living room, etc. everything we needed was there. Bought groceries at the nearby store, and we’re all set!

Nice place
Worked well for our needs. Owner was very helpful. Only problem was many of the kitchen cabinets were full of spider webs. The house was otherwise clean and dusted, so maybe a recent spider invasion?

Perfect home and location
Very nice and comfortable home. Very clean although does have a slight musty smell. Kitchen well equipped. Beds very comfortable. Perfect location for the places we needed to get to in Iowa, MN. and Illinois. Allen is a gracious host and made every effort to make sure we were comfortable. Beautiful time of the year to be in this area. Radio could be updated. Could not tune in more stations and remote did not work.

Cozy comfortable family home.
Property could use some attention to the yard. House is original decor for its age. Overall comfortable and all conveniences needed are present.

Great weekend stay
It worked great for us (family of 5) with the 3 bedrooms and the large drive as we brought a boat with us. We would definitely recommend this listing. We will be back!

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The house was very welcoming and had everything we needed to call it home for 3 days. Prairie Du Chein is a gorgeous town with lots to do. Make sure to visit the smoked meat shop just a few blocks away & ride the river road north towards La Crosse.

Quiet neighborhood, nice accommodations
There were three of us staying in this home which was quite comfortable. Beds were very comfortable and plenty of closet and dresser space. There were some dust bunnies under some of the furniture and there was a slight odor in the home which reminded me of old varnish. Because it was so hot, we didn't open windows. There was plenty of cooking pans and utensils for our use which we took advantage of. Overall, the owners were very responsive and we had a great stay. I'm still giving it a 4 star as it was much better than a hotel room as we could cook our own meals.

Homey stay
We greatly enjoyed staying here for 2 weeks. It is an older house so expect things that come along with that such as few 3 prong outlets, though they have multi-outlet cords to use. It was great having a whole house and a kitchen with everything we needed to us. Allen is great, and the older lady across the street was there to help us when we locked ourselves out. It is a cute little house and I would recommend it to anyone staying in the area longer. I think it is great that Prairie du Chien has such a great house to rent. If I wasn't moving back I would stay again, but I will recommend to any of my family visiting the area. Thanks for a great stay!

Had everything necessary . The air freshener was too much though.
Cute house and grateful to have had the opportunity to stay.
The air freshener covering up the smoke smell was too much though. Would stay again if that was taken care of.

Worked well for our fishing trip.
Plenty of room, better than jamming four guys into a hotel room. Close to the river, great parking.

Very Comfortable
We enjoyed staying at this home. It was way better than staying in a motel and had more value for the price than a motel. It was easy to find and close to all of the places we wanted to go. Allen was very accommodating to us, especially in being able to adjust for us when a family emergency delayed our trip one day.

Our stay was very nice. Felt like visiting a family home. Allen was very helpful and available.
This was a very comfortable home. We enjoyed our stay.

We came to go camping, unfortunately could find cabin, yes the home had an odor to it from all the wood, but it was clean, quiet n home like. The woman I spoke with was so nice, and gave a lot of history information. I would stay again

Nice, Older Home, Comfy with Character
We had a great time in this home. We had to reach out to Allen with a few questions and he was quick to be responsive. The home has a lot of character to enjoy. If we attend Country on the River next year, and Allen is still offering the rental for a few days, we are hopeful to stay again!!
