About this house rental
Welcome to Hobo Haven! Hobo Haven, our family-built home named after our beloved dog Hobo, is a charming log cabin located on two acres on Lake Gaston in Bracey, Virginia. Our three story, three bedroom, three bath home is a classic log cabin, featuring plank hard wood floors, wood beam ceilings, and, of course, beautiful hand-hewn log walls.
Our home boasts three covered and one uncovered decks, all with beautiful views of the lake. It also features a large screened-in porch, perfect for eating lunch on a warm summer day. These covered outside spaces allow you to enjoy the outdoors even in the case of bad weather. The fully equipped, open concept kitchen is ideal for preparing any meal, and features a dining room table with seating for ten, perfect for a lovely family dinner. Even on a cool autumn or winter day, cozy up next to one of two beautiful stone fireplaces, one located in the kitchen, the other in the second story family room area. Despite being a rustic log cabin, Hobo Haven still has standard modern luxuries we’ve come to expect, including three 32-inch and two 50-inch flat screen TVs, cable, telephone, air conditioning, and heat.

Nice quiet neighborhood. Great cove spot on the lake caught plenty of fish off the dock. Paddle boards and kayak were nice to use. House was ok very big and spacious plenty of areas to hangout and play games or just sit and chill. Fire pit area is new and very nice. When we first arrived we had to sweep and remove cobwebs from windows. Back yard is under construction so I would say not good for kids or older people until it is fixed. Everyone slipped down the hill of rocks at some point in our stay. 3rd floor front bedroom bed was noisy and not comfortable for me and the Window ac units could use a cleaning also.

House was perfect for our size family! Adults on top floor, kids on second floor, living space and kitchen on 1st floor! Was very easy to spread out while inside which was not very often. The 3 lots the house sits on gave the 4 boys plenty of room to fish and the largest bass over 4 lbs. was caught right there off the stone wall. Lots of swim toys and jumping off the top of the boat house was a hit. Owners explained the construction that was going on since there had been so much rain in the area and were super cool to accommodate by allowing the use of the boat lifts! Great time! Great weather! Overall an awesome vacation!

We got married and wanted to celebrate with the grown kids and grands and it was the perfect place for that! We had a great time and the house made it easy for everyone to either be together or have some quiet time on their own. The dock and lake were wonderful! It was wonderful!

HAD A GREAT TIME. THE HOUSE WAS AWESOME. PERFECT LOCATION. CANT WAIT TO STAY AGAIN!!

This beautiful log cabin home on Lake Gaston was the perfect place for our family to gather for Christmas. Such warmth and character. The kitchen had everything we needed for some delicious cooking over the course of several days. We brought our own Christmas tree, along with some simple Christmas decorations, that really made it feel like home! The weather was warm enough for us to be able to be outside and gather with a fire every night. We fished for some catfish off the dock, and got a massive big blue catfish on Christmas morning! We will book again in the summer months when we can access the lake with a boat and kayaks!

The location was beautiful. The first day was spent in clearing away the cob webs inside and outside the home. Upon walking in we walked through several spider webs. We then had to make up the beds, (I had to wash one bed spread that was dirty before sleeping underneath it) sweeping the floors and turning on the heat. It looked as if no one had been there in a long time. The house was freezing cold. There were not enough blankets. The bathroom on the main floor only dispensed hot water so we had to keep bottled water for brushing our teeth and washing hands. At the end of the stay, we had to wash, dry, fold and put away all of the linens. It took 5 hours because it was a lot of laundry and we wanted to do a good job. We had to take the trash to the shell station down the road. It was a beautiful location but a lot of work for a getaway. You have to really like spiders.

We just got home from our weekend visit. It was a short trip and wish we could have stayed longer. The house and property are very nice and just as described. Enjoyed spending our afternoon sitting by the fire watching our grandchildren fish. Everything you need and very beautiful and quiet location.

Our family absolutely loves this house for so many reasons. The property is pet friendly, and almost completely fenced in which is a huge plus. We comfortably had 6 couples in the bedrooms, and 4 teens on the middle floor - there are bunk beds there and plenty of room to set up two air mattresses for them to spread out and have their space. We enjoyed eating out on the screened in porch when the occasional rainstorm would crop up, but primarily we were on the dock all day! The water is nice and deep, so jumping off either of the docks was fun and safe. Everyone really enjoyed using the paddle boards and kayak, and floating on the giant mat was very relaxing.
Even though we had a few issues upon check in, the owners are ALWAYS responsive and make it right to the best of their ability - we so appreciated their care.
I do love that there is everything you need for your stay. There are trash bags, hand soap, dish washing soap, etc., and all the necessary kitchen items available. I always pack these things when I travel, but this home is well stocked.
The only recommendation I would make is to get a new mattress for the sleeper sofa, as the one that is on there is not able to be slept on.
No doubt we will be coming back for a 3rd visit next summer as this place just has it all. Thank you all so much for another awesome family vacation!

Overall the property was great, our group of 7 kids, and 8 adults had a great time. We loved the 2 paddle boards, canoe, and the kayak. They also had a large variety of life jackets and pool toys to play in the lake with. We spent our whole stay swimming and fishing. Note that there is no central air conditioning, however, it was 95 degrees and humid outside and the window units in the house were more than sufficient to cool the house, even in those temperatures. They were renovating the deck above the screen room during our stay so we did have a couple of contractors at the house one day but they did not interfere with our vacation and we were informed by the property manager before they arrived. We only gave 3 stars for cleanliness due to the 3rd floor bathroom needing some attention however I believe this was just an oversight because they rest of the house was clean and comfortable. Watch out for snakes (not a huge issue as you are outside in their environment we just were not expecting to find 2 copperheads after dark while we were night fishing). The only thing we were missing in the kitchen was a toaster. We had dogs with us and enjoyed the yard being mostly fenced as this made it much easier to keep the dogs contained and the double lot was great as we had plenty of outdoor space. We all much enjoyed our stay and would definitely stay in this beautiful rustic log home again.

We all enjoyed our stay and wish we could live there year round. What an amazing vacation for a family with teenagers and kids in college. There was plenty of room to sprawl out and so many great books for family time! It really is a neat home full of character. The cove is quiet and safe and full of fun! My favorite morning routine was to paddle board and kayak to visit the herons before the rest of the house woke up to play! Owners were kind with any questions and seemed great! We will definitely be back!

We love this place! It's perfect for our family! And pet friendly too! Near our favorite fishing spots! Caught quite a few crappie off the dock too. We spent most of our time on the dock, fishing , swimming and relaxing when we were not out on our boat fishing! Our grandkids love it! One of our favorite places to stay! It's a little piece of country but on the lake! The screened in room off the cabin was a perfect place to hang out on a rainy day when we couldn't get down to the dock.

This place is amazing. The pictures don't do the view and outdoor space justice!! This was hands down the best place we've stayed at the lake thus far. The location was perfect because it was off of the main lake (high traffic/wake) but didn't make you feel like you were in a teeny tiny cove either. We rented jet skis for our kids and felt so at ease letting them ride in the area due to its location (also good/safe for tubing). The neighborhood is quiet and relaxing. The lot/yard was perfect for having our dog with us. We never felt right on top of the neighbors/other dogs and the lot is mostly all fenced in! The window AC units cooled the house down just fine (we were nervous about this), but we were rarely inside :) If bringing or renting a boat (we did both) there is an extremely convenient location to put in the water and get gas at Holly Grove Marina. Just know there is a bridge you must go through that is very narrow! (Yes a pontoon will fit!) We were so very sad to go and we will be coming back again <3

This was our second time staying at this place for a multi-generational family gathering in the spring. The house has plenty of room to spread out and so many options for enjoying the outdoors on the lake: porches, patios, balconies, swings and a screened-in porch, not to mention the front and back lawns, the dock and second story deck which was recently rebuilt. You can fish right from the bank – our son caught two fish, to the delight of our granddaughter! It’s a very quiet neighborhood that’s great for taking a walk, too. The kitchen and dining area are nice and big with everything you need to cook meals. We brought our own linens this time because we learned the previous year that the laundry machines take a long time to go through their cycles. We ended up only having to do one load of wash (a few towels etc.) which made our departure much easier. If you like rustic log homes, you’re going to love this one!

Great property. Easy check-in/checkout. Hosts were very responsive. No issues at all. Only thing to note is while the house has a lot of character and meets the pictures, the outside space is to die for. Multiple seating areas including an unpictured firepit over looking the lake. Amazing 270 degree of the lake. Dock area was amazing. Our group had a great time and heartily recommend.
4.8
Beautiful lake front property with a large yard and easy access to the lake. The owner did a wonderful job decorating for Christmas including a beautiful tree. It was a great Christmas weekend. Our only issue was the cold weather, 10 degrees in the mornings. You can't stop nature. The house was cold inside in the main living areas. We still had a great time.

Took a vacation here with my grown children, their spouses, and my in-laws. So relaxing and gorgeous views. Even though it is on a cove, we felt like we were on main lake! We truly did spend the majority of the time in the water which was perfect. Truly appreciated the stair access to the water for my in-laws, because there was no way they were jumping off either dock like the rest of us! Was very excited and pleasantly surprised that the majority of the property is fenced in, so no worries about our dog escaping. She had plenty of room to run and play, and only found the lack of fencing up at the very top of the driveway once! Made it much easier to relax for sure knowing she was safe. I would say that the house sleeps 3 couples comfortably in the designated bedrooms. The bunks would be great for little ones for sure! The sleeper sofa was not comfy, so I would suggest a topper or new mattress for that. Would definitely come back again - loved it!

Excellent location on the lake. The log cabin house is at the end of the street and quite private. We had a very relaxing and enjoyable time.

Great time at the lake
We really enjoyed our time at this property on the lake. Lovely location and comfortable home! Host communicative about any issue we had. Two things to consider: 1) be sure to notice the ac system is window units--these worked fine for what turned out to be a really hot week, however, we just were not expecting that. I guess we had assumed it would be central AC. Took a little adjusting but then was fine. 2) I think the listing says to clean out fridge completely but that was far from the case when we arrived. Partial carton of eggs (with used shells in them) and tons of partially used condiments, some in large containers, took a lot of space in the fridge. I would ask the cleaning staff to enforce the empty fridge policy stated on the check-out sheet by throwing out what's left behind. These are small things that can be addressed and would not deter me from staying here again or recommending to friends!

We enjoyed our stay here so much. The location is perfect and beautiful! With some updates, it would be perfect. The screened in porch was the perfect spot for supper.

Staying were the two grandparents, with our two sons & their wives, and one grandbaby plus two dogs. The place was perfect for our get together with many private parts of the house to relax in (so much space and decks and porches and outside, etc.). The only notable issue was that we washed the linens on move out day starting very early in the morning and the machines couldn't handle getting all of it done before 11 am, so the grandparents delayed leaving to get it done..... But it was fantastic for our family get together.

Overall our experience was great. It was pretty cold the day we arrived and the learning curve to get the temperature just right was pretty steep but that could have just been me. Dock area was awesome and can only imagine how great it would be during the summer. Plenty of space and a good spot for a family Thanksgiving getaway.

Lovely rustic home and the grounds are beautiful. It was a quiet and peaceful weekend away.
The home is spacious and lots of room to spread out. The screened porch was great on the rainy Saturday, and it was so nice to be able to have the grand pups along for the weekend. They had a blast as well. Thank you for allowing the fur babies.

loved the area, quiet, private and beautiful. The home was spacious and just want we were looking for. Kid safety gates were a plus. Short walk to the lake, not too steep and easy to maneuver. The home had everything we needed. Great stay.

Loved the location - was very peaceful and great to take kayaks out. Doors were hard to open/secure and some to upstairs decks wouldn’t open. Would have loved the outside string lights but many were out/broken. Loved sitting on first level porch with rope swings and enjoying the lake - easy access to dock.

This property is a great location on Lake Gaston. The only problem we had was with the shower heads. They were hard to control and one would not spray in the proper direction.
