This spectacular gated property, has the feel of a mountain retreat away from the tourist scene, but is just minutes to restaurants, shops and beautiful beaches. Recently renovated, and offers all the amenities.
Whether you seek a romantic getaway for two or a great place for a family reunion, a gathering of friends or a personal growth retreat....this place is perfect.
This property is a hidden jewel in a lush garden setting—a gardener's delight, artist get away, spiritual retreat or family vacation.
This house is versatile in how many it can sleep; It is MUCH larger than it looks. It has 5 bedrooms (one is a spacious loft and one is a studio suite with an additional bathroom, kitchenette and a private entrance which is included in the price). All total there are 10 beds. All located on several acres of lush tropical beauty. There are additional accommodations on nearby properties so if you have a larger group, contact me about the possibilities.
The house has a large living room, covered lanai, fully equipped kitchen, picnic/BBQ areas, and WiFi. It has gas stove/oven, microwave, toaster oven coffee maker, dishwasher, blender, citrus juicer, ironing board, iron, two bathrooms have a bathtub/shower, the other a shower. There is plenty of off-road parking.
This is a 3 story house. You enter on the middle floor, which has a master bedroom with Queen sized bed, and a Master bath with shower/bathtub, stained glass windows. This floor also has the fully equipped kitchen, dining room and cathedral ceiling/window living room. The Lanai is off the kitchen.
The upstairs has a loft bedroom with two queens (open air to the living room and the large cathedral ceiling below) and another bedroom with two twin beds, as well as a bathroom with a beautifully tiled shower.
The bottom flower has a studio suite with a king sized bed (or two twins if you prefer) and another bedroom with a queen sized bed, a twin trundle bed (2 twins) and a laundry room.
This property is located immediately next door to The Sacred Garden (with two walking labyrinths, succulent gardens, water gardens, meditation gardens) and is where we (the owners) live, so you have easy access to us if you need anything but with plenty of privacy.
The property is in close proximity to other attractions like the Piiholo Ziplines, The Temple of Peace, World-Class Kite and Windsurfing at Ho'okipa and the famous Jaws big surf site. Great hiking trails are just 3 miles away. Haliimaile General Store and Mama's Fish House are minutes away. Haleakala National Park is only 50 minutes away.
We are 2 miles to Makawao Town restaurants and shops, 3 miles to Haiku Town, 5 Miles to Paia Town and Baldwin Beach. The airport is only 15-20 minutes away but you will feel like you are far away from it all in this absolutely peaceful garden setting.
We have a working organic farm, growing organic veggies, Ginger and Turmeric, a botanical garden and coffee farm. Access to this property and our adjacent property, The Sacred Garden, allows you to go on walks through 8.5 acres of an incredible tropical setting. Upon request we will happily offer a tour so you can learn about Hawaiian plants, coffee production, water lilies, etc.. We have mango, coconuts, coffee, papaya, lemon, tangerine, bananas, avocados, lilikoi (passion fruit) macadamia nuts, lychee, breadfruit, and flowers galore—haleconia, bird of paradise, jade vine, and ginger. Different flowering trees take turns blooming so the valley is constantly featuring a different splash of color.
While our cancellation policy is "No refund" we are happy to refund bookings if we are able to re-book the dates.
Gardening classes are also available as well as tours of several of Maui's other unique farms. We also offer personalized private retreats and can arrange for massage, private yoga or Qigong, relationship-, spirituality-, creativity-, personal growth-, life coaching, intuitive readings....we are affiliated with Maui's best practitioners...
There is a seasonal stream running through the property so from time to time there is the additional treat of a stream—(or a river!) running through the yard.
The elevation is about 1000 feet which is PERFECT on Maui! We are about 10 degrees cooler than sea level which makes for absolutely comfortable days (70-80 degrees) and GREAT temps for sleeping (usually in the 60's). This is the MAXIMUM elevation you can stay and still go scuba diving on Maui. Speaking of diving...we are avid divers and can assist you booking Scuba Diving with the best dive operation on Maui. (Makena Coast Dive Charters)
You will definitely want a rental car....there is a bus stop a mile or two away but not ideal....and bikes are a little hazardous as these are hilly, windy, narrow roads.

We were a girl scout troop of 9 teenage girls and 3 adults visiting from Los Angeles. The property had more than enough beds for everyone, and really great common areas. Eve was super welcoming and really made our stay the best. The property has gardens, animals, and plenty of space to walk around which was perfect for our group. Would highly recommend staying here!!

Very nice property and community. Private, yet inviting. So many neighborhoods are not welcoming to vacationers, this place is the exception. We had maximum privacy without the glares of unfriendly neighbors.
Host fantastic. Property very well stocked with everything we needed.
Centrally located to all things Maui.

Staying at this property was a blessing. In addition to the house with all the facilities, the land with the animals, pets are part of the charm of this place. Also the kindness of Eva our host and the Sacred Garden where we had the opportunity to meditate and walk the labyrinth under her guidance was a plus. We would repeat the experience without a doubt.

We had a very nice stay in the log house. It was big enough for our extended family and it was nice to be in the green forest area of Maui. Eve (the owner) gave us a tour of the property and we learned a lot about the plants in the area. The kitchen was a good size and well stocked. Also the laundry room came in handy. In the evenings, it was peaceful to hear the rain and breeze through the trees. We enjoyed our stay, thank you!

This property was perfect for our extended family of 10. We had 3 groups (two families of 4 plus a set of grandparents), and each group had their own spacious floor. The house is stocked with plenty of clean linens, lots of beach toys, chairs, and towels and has a washer and dryer in the bottom floor. The property is lush with beautiful plants and unique physical features such as a creek bed and a cliff wall that make you feel like you've found a hidden gem. The kids in our group spent all their downtime playing out in the yard and found plenty to do while the grownups relaxed on the lanai. This location is the perfect temperature allowing you to have the windows open all day and night. It is a short ~10 minute drive to conveniences such as grocery, gas, etc. On Saturdays there is a wonderful market (called the Upcountry Farmer's Market) just 10-15 minutes away. Eve is a fantastic host and is very responsive and helpful. She lives nearby and is able to assist with any of your needs or questions. While we were there, a tropical storm was headed our way and she let us know which windows to close and told us about the battery powered lanterns that were stored downstairs. This home was above and beyond any of our expectations, and we would 100% recommend it to anyone!

We had 9 people including my wife, my teenage to adult kids, son’s girlfriend, and my parents. This place couldn’t have been more perfect for our group. Plenty of beds (most important), decent number of bathrooms (second most important), real nice kitchen and family room, and tons of beautiful scenery. * Fair Warning* There are a number of roosters around the property and they let you know about it every morning. But that was a small price to pay for this beautiful cabin in the Hawaiian woods.
Eve was absolutely awesome and very attentive and hospitable in every way. She gave a tour of the beautiful gardens and grounds and was quick to respond to every question/concern. This has to be the best VRBO-type experience I’ve ever had. Absolutely plan to come back - I hope word doesn’t get too much.

We loved it here! Eve and Steve were amazing host. Great location, beautiful house. Our family had such a great time. We definitely want to come back. It was a beautiful and amazing experience to be in the Sacred Garden.

I typically never leave reviews, but after leaving this VRBO I knew I had to. The house was good, and the inside does look like the pictures. However, there were issues with the house. The downstairs shower did not drain. Any water used would just sit in the tub. The upstairs shower was also troublesome. Eve told us that this shower might give us problems, but even when following these instructions, water would still drip from the shower into the floor of the master bedroom.
Eve was friendly, but we didn’t realize how close her house is to this VRBO. We also didn’t anticipate how much we would see her during our stay. Her house is very very close to this rental, which based on the pictures we just didn’t expect. There was maybe 20 yards between the two homes. There was also a time when Eve came into the house when none of us were home to turn off a light that she didn’t think was working. We would have appreciated a heads up, as hearing about this from Eve later that night felt violating. and we only heard about this from Eve because our front door code was changed mid-stay… Also, because Eve’s home is on the same property, there was one night when all of us were frightened to see 2 people (which we later realized were Eve and her husband) walking around our house with flashlights. They were just walking the property, but nothing prepares you to see 2 people walking with flashlights by your bedroom window at 1 in the morning. Overall, I wouldn’t stay here again.

My family (10 of us) stayed at this lovely spot in Makawao. Eve, this host, runs a very beautiful and unique property. She also owns The Sacred Garden next door. It was our first time staying upcountry and I have to say, I loved it. The house was spacious and everyone had plenty of room. Internet worked well. Kitchen is nicely stocked.
If you have multiple people and are looking to try an upcountry stay, I highly recommend Eve’s house.

Wow, I had high expectations for this stay based on the reviews and everything was ABOVE AND BEYOND. Eve is truly a gem - so communicative when we first booked and throughout the end of our stay. She is the best Vrbo host I've worked with, putting so much care and love into her home and property. It is a beautiful home, perfectly fit 8 adults with plenty of room to spare. She thought of everything - from beach towels, umbrellas, snorkel gear, all kitchen equipment and more - the home was so clean and spacious. You cannot beat the peacefulness her property provides, plus all the animals from roosters, ducks, dogs and cats were such a pleasant surprise. I even was able to coordinate with Eve on a surprise grazing board platter which was a great touch and so kind of her to set that up for us at the extra cost. Also loved her binder with every detail you'd need, helped keep us organized too and answered all questions. Eve is fantastic, this home made our Maui family vacation the best. So grateful for this stay, thank you Eve!!!

Wonderful
Everything about the house was wonderful. We were completely satisfied. As nice as the house is, Eve, the owner, is even better. She was communicative, responsive, and all-around awesome. Thank you, Eve, for helping to make our trip special.

Accommodating
The Secrete Garden Home is fabulous! The Hosts is a gem, the location is accommodating for most Maui activities, and the home amenities are complete. Delightful log home is "cowboy country." Absolutely no issues or negative comments. Would recommend the experience and will stay again, without hesitation.

log house in your own private tropical surroundings
This property was absolutely gorgeous! The house was roomy and fully equipped, even for 10 people, and beautifully appointed with artwork everywhere. The surroundings were a tropical dream - flora of all kinds completely surrounding us. Beautiful sunrises and rainbows almost every day. Ducks, dogs, and chickens, too, to entertain us. Eve is a lovely hostess and gave us a tour of the property which has 3 other rental houses scattered throughout the property, her own private home nearby, as well as her gardens/shop just outside the gate along the road. Communication with Eve was encouraged by her and certainly welcomed by us, and we took advantage of her knowledge of the area. We highly recommend this property - all 10 of us!

This location is truly special, the natural beauty of the jungle and the location make this a very relaxing place to be. The kitchen has everything you need for a large gathering. We had 9 people were able to easily cook and relax. The main level primary bedroom with bath was nice for my parents and the other beds were comfortable. There were 2 pairs of ducks who decided to nest in the Monstera at the entry to the house and were delightful. It's fun to walk the property and the Sacred Garden and labryinths. Eve was super accomodating and always available to us when we had questions. Book this place!

After spending a week in the Lahaina area, we retreated to the upcountry. What a breath of fresh air (literally) this place is! Eve is a fabulous host. She was so generous with her time, gave us a tour of this amazing property, and even shared fresh avacados with us for dinner. Our group of 7 adults had plenty of space and the amenities were excellent. House was very clean, linens are of good quality, the beds were comfortable, and the kitchen had a nice assortment of cooking essentials.
The Sacred Garden is an added bonus where you will find much more than just beautiful flowers.
Thanks for your hospitality Eve and for making sure we return home with great memories.

We loved this property. It was 15 minute drive to the beach where all the sea turtles were. That was awesome to see.
It was about an hour to Lahaina and we made the trip most days to lay around the resorts and beach all in the same location. Our ages ranged from 4-93 and it was perfect for all. Note- there is only one real RV and it’s the living room. We didn’t always agree on what to watch and that was a problem.
Our hostess was great. She lives right on the property. Not everyone likes that so make note of it, but we found it helpful.

Our stay in this log cabin in Makawao was perfect for my family and me. In total there were 9 of us (8 adults and 1 teen) and the accommodations were just right for all of us in the days leading to my wedding that was held at the adjacent Sacred Garden in one of two of their labyrinths. In fact, Eve performed our magical ceremony.
Eve was super communicative and gave us a lot of good advice well in advance of our trip. On our first night there we were able to partake in a full moon labyrinth walk which was accompanied by a harpist. The surroundings had us feeling remote and close with nature and cooler due to its higher elevation. Easy drives to take in the sites and main attractions on the island and quick access to the local Costco and airport. We especially liked how much closer it was to Haleakala since we decided to take in the sunrise from the volcano on our second day there. On the way back you can visit a lavender farm. Also easy access to points of interest on the Road to Hana.
We highly recommend this rental especially for large groups.

Simply a great experience from start to finish. In Maui for work and found this property. I love this side of Maui. Makawao is beautiful and this property is an oasis in the middle perfect. Interaction with the owner started off Incredibly smooth and was only topped by meeting her in person. Eve is amazing! She handled checking us in personally and invested in sharing the details and nuances of the cabin as well as the surrounding property. Incredible tangerines, oranges, avocados & much more. And then there is Kenny! The resident boss rooster. Beautiful, all black and definitely runs the roost. He’s one cool character!
I can’t wait to come back and do this again! Definitely feels like home away from home!

A great place for our family of 10!
We had a great time in this house, the location, and the nearby Sacred Garden. Eve was very helpful, friendly, and responsive to any questions. It was convenient to Paia, the airport, the beach, and Haleakala National Park. The house with 3 levels were great for our 3-generation family gathering, and plenty of space to eat, cook, play games and be together. And it was quiet and peaceful. We really enjoyed it!
