About this house rental
Spacious waterfront home with iconic view of Mt. Rainer and Puget Sound. Cozy, unique spaces throughout the house and property. Street level access includes main bedroom, bathroom, spacious kitchen, living room area and large deck. Steps down to large green backyard with space for outdoor activities and access to the beach. Upstairs bedroom located in the apex of the A-frame evokes a sense of being in a tree house.
The large kitchen can become the center of activity with ample counter space, two sinks, and can easily handle preparation of gourmet meals. The breakfast nook has both water and woodland views with large window and built in bench. The adjoining living room has a wood stove and a gathering of comfortable chairs. A collection of games and cable TV available to add to your indoor activities.
The deck has southern exposure and catches sun throughout the day. A hot tub on the lower deck offers privacy while still affording a nice view of the water with passing sailboats or the local ferry. You can do some bird watching from there using the binoculars and book references laid out in the living room. You are likely to spot bald eagles, king fishers and many other birds favoring the mild climate of Pacific Northwest. You may even spot seals, otters or a pod of orcas either from the deck or during a stroll on the beach.
The bathroom tub has a strategically placed window, with outside plantings framing a view of Mt.Rainier. Bathroom also includes a large double headed shower.
The rental offers off street parking. A ten minute walk to the Tahlequah ferry, connecting Vashon with the mainland. 10 minute ride to hamlet of Burton with a grocery store, post office, cafe, farm stand, an antique store and a local marina, where kayaks can be rented. 15 minute ride to a key local gathering place where you'll find the Vashon Art Center, rostaria, health food store, used book store and ice cream parlor. 20 minute ride to the island's main hub, with a number of interesting restaurants, cafes, massage studios, cinema, library and businesses serving the local population of 10,000 residents. The island has a rich cultural life and history, and virtually every day during the summer has some interesting events - like the Sheepdog Trails - Strawberry Festival or Lego building classes at the local library. See for list of events during your planned stay.
For more strenuous activities you can walk or bike Vashon's extensive network of trails or explore the local beaches. Two gyms, including a 24 hour one, offer still more intensive workouts and classes. Eclectic sampling of ongoing groups like the Death Cafe, Reiki Jam, or Ecstatic Dance, which you can join during your stay.

Guests loved the stunning views, comfortable furnishings, well-equipped kitchen, large deck, and hot tub. The host, Annette, was accommodating and easy to communicate with. Highly recommended!

A very quiet street with a beautiful view of the Tacoma side and even Mount Rainier if it’s not cloudy. We really enjoyed our stay. It was very peaceful and very quiet. The house is small but set up very nicely. It’s an older home so some things are in a bit of disrepair, but we didn’t mind that at all. The hot tub was amazing and the deck is where we spent most of our time. We even got to see some orcas one night From the beach right in front of the house. Can’t wait to come back again sometime.

Excellent location, close to ferry, comfortable including air conditioning which was needed during our stay, however a barbuque would have been nice to have .whichit did not

What a wonderful time we had. Although we didn't have a ton of time to spend at the house, we enjoyed ever minute. The views from the deck were amazing! If you are taking the ferry from Tacoma you couldn't get a shorter ride to the house.

Gorgeous view! Lovely deck. Comfortable furnishings. Easy drive to town. Very steep driveway.

My partner and I stayed at this Vashon A-frame for a little more than 3 weeks. It was our third visit in three years, and we have already made a reservation for next year. The location of the house, on the southern end of the island, offers great views, plenty of sightings of seals, sea lions, dolphin, orca whales (2 sightings during this trip), eagles, and of course plenty of deer. The house is easily walkable to the south ferry terminal, and a short drive from some great trails. The host, Annette, is simply wonderful to work with, and the house is clean and well equipped. What can I say, we love it here!

It was a pleasure staying in a historical structure associated with the Seattle World's Fair. Add in the spectacular view, a lovely kitchen, and comfortable furnishings and it was a fine five days on Vashon. The deck furniture could use an upgrade, but that's a quibble. This is a very quiet location from which to enjoy Vashon.

My partner and I stayed at this island house for the second time, and loved it. The location is both inspirational and convenient, and the house has a great feel to it. Annette was super easy to work with and helpful. We have already made our reservation for next summer.

We had an amazing time at this house! The view alone makes it worth staying, but the house itself is charming. It’s got a feel like a family vacation home that has accumulated furniture, kitchenware, books, and games over time. It’s well-appointed with anything you could need available. The deck and hot tub are relaxing and private, the views are top notch, the bed was comfortable, and it was easy to get from the house to anywhere else. Annette was pleasant and easy to get in touch with. We recommended it to several friends at the wedding we were in town for, and we would for sure stay again!

This is a lovely A-frame, with a large deck looking towards Tacoma and Mt. Ranier. The kitchen is very well equipped, the bed comfortable, and the bathroom is great.
The living room has guidebooks with things to do on the island. We didn't use the hot tub, but it was on a slightly lower level than the deck and looked out over the water.

Hygge
The welcome mat captures the feel of this beautiful house perfectly, it is truly hygge, a cozy, comfortable and welcoming home that has everything needed for a blissful retreat into nature. Our family of four, including two teen boys, traveled to Vashon for a family wedding. We were delighted with the house, the location, the big deck, hot tub, beautiful view and comfortable indoor accommodations. We hope to stay again.

A house with a view
My partner and I stayed here for almost a month in the late spring/early summer. We totally enjoyed the house and its location. It is hard to complain about an unimpeded view of Mt. Rainier and Point Defiance. Also, can't complain about seeing sea lions and orcas from the back deck, and deer in the yard. Did I. mention the eagles flying overhead? The house itself is a really neat A frame with lots of privacy and a hot tub in the back. It is a 10 min walk to the south ferry terminal. Annette was great to work with. No complaints at all, everything is great. We have already reserved the house again for next year.

Great stay
This was the perfect house for my Washington visit. It was clean and full stocked. The tub was wonderful and I LOVED the hot tub (and it's view). Annette was easy to communicate with. I want to bring my husband back for a weekend away from the kids.

TREASURE CHEST
First thoughts….Going through the front door it is way cuter and more clever than the pictures. A bit of history, the A frame section came from the 1962 Seattle World fair and was shipped to the property. A shed addition was added later for the kitchen and master bedroom. The furniture is “second house casual” with charming and sturdy vintage pieces thoughtfully placed throughout. The kitchen is very large and well equipped. This is huge for me, it has all the stuff you need COFFEE!….ICE…spices, baking pans, etc. and a touch I absolutely loved was a pair of reading glasses in the kitchen / utility drawer. Thought went into this with the owner Annette anticipating what a guest might need or want.
Privacy abounds on the large deck that takes in the glorious views, far to the southeast is Commencement Bay, dead center a stand of trees, then it opens up again to the Rustin redevelopment and the glorious green of Point Defiance park. The online pictures accurately portray the view. The deck is worth the price of admission and there are 2 newer loungers and padded swivel chairs for the table with umbrella. A few steps down is the hot tub.
The downstairs master bedroom is in the addition and is very comfortable and roomy with queen bed. Clever details and built in’s abound. Up stairs in the peak is a full bed, sitting area with its own deck with more amazing views. Mobility challenged individuals should always think twice about using the upper level as A frame stairs are usually narrow and somewhat step. The only bathroom in on the main floor but it is large and functional, with separate tub and shower.
This isn’t a stripped down bare bones rental, it is a treasure chest of thoughtful and cool stuff and we had a relaxing and throughly enjoyable stay.

Charming & Cozy
We celebrated our wedding anniversary with a 4-night getaway to Vashon Island in this lovely A-Frame cottage. When we arrived our first evening, we noticed that there was a new home being constructed next door. Luckily we don't sleep in since construction noise began at about 8AM - plus we were gone exploring the island most of the day. The home was well appointed and very comfortable with nice views of the water from the large deck.

Charming and historical retreat with epic views and AMAZING bed!
I don't write reviews... I am working mom with two kids, but after staying here, I had to! My good friend and I went to the home for a work retreat, where we could each focus on our small businesses, while away from our hubbies and kids. We slept like angels in the comfy beds, had amazing soaks in the hot tub, and loved the views, while plugging away at our computers. Wifi signal was excellent as well. And the owner was SO easy to deal with. We will DEFINITELY come back. Hope you enjoy this review, but don't try to stay a weekend we want to go back ;)

Calm and soothing
Fun place to stay. It has relaxing views to the south, a nice deck, and plenty of south and west windows to let natural light in. We enjoyed the wood stove to keep the evening chill down. The loft was perfect for the kids, and the kitchen had all the utensils we needed for meal prep. Loved it.

Great Puget Sound Retreat
We so enjoyed our stay at this delightful home. Our host, Annette Jacobsen went out of her way to be accommodating. She personally welcomed us, and was very willing to meet us at a time convenient to us; We felt she was genuinely interested in having us enjoy the property. The house itself is very quiet and peaceful, with a beautiful view across to the mainland, including Mt Rainier. The property was in great shape and had all of the conveniences we needed. And the hot tub was an added plus. We would definitely consider staying there again if we were in the Pacific Northwest.

A lovely home
Annette was fabulous in meeting us at the house and giving us directions to get to her place. The two rooms were perfect for 2 adults and 2 kids (5&7 years old). The kids LOVED the hot tub and the beach was an easy walk down. We even saw two deers in the backyard! Had the necessary kitchen items for us to make pancakes and pizza. I even left my wash cloth and she was so kind to send it back to me. Would totally recommend for a small family, especially if your kids love the hot tub!

Beautiful location and charming house. Lots of spiders if that’s an issue for you. Annette was great, we didn’t want to leave!

Friendly and helpful owner. Lovely spot and charming house well appointed, though needs bath chair
Needs bath chair for the shower for the disabled and mirror for upstairs.
Charming place but would be a little difficult for someone in a wheelchair.

Enjoy the mountains and bay all in one place
Sweet, comfy, historic home sits right on the shore--with access to a beach and clear water that's terrific for wading. It's a perfect place to cook dinner or kick back and relax. Annette is a superb host--responsive, personable, and kind. We loved our stay here. Thanks, Annette.

Peaceful getaway on the water
Great getaway, I’d recommend it for anyone looking for some peace and quiet. Gorgeous views, well stocked house, lots of space to relax. Homeowner was welcoming and available. Can’t say enough how perfect this was!

Spacious, majestic, relaxing, perfect location on Vashon Island
Annette's rental was absolutely perfect for the four of us. In photos, it looks smaller than it actually is compared to the real thing. Gorgeous natural lighting, an extremely well equipped kitchen, clean, and the deck and hot tub give you marvelous views of the mountain and the Sound. I couldn't have had a better birthday weekend.
We also were able to get down there by public transit, so if you want to hop the 118X from the ferry terminal, the house will be right there for you! It's just a 8-10 minute walk from the last stop on the sound end of Vashon. We will surely be back soon. I never thought I would say aloud to my friend "I miss that rental from VRBO" but I truly do and can't wait to return!!!

We had a wonderful time on Vashon Island. Especially enjoyed the location and view.
We enjoyed our three days on Vashon Island. The location was excellent with easy access to the ferry. We most enjoyed the view of Puget Sound, the birds, and wildlife. We wanted a quiet few days, and we mostly got that. It was surprising how the low hum of motors and trains carried across the water from the Ruston and Tacoma waterfront areas, especially in the mornings. But we enjoyed exploring the island, picking blackberries near the lighthouse at Point Robinson, seeing the deer, blue jays, eagle, osprey, seals, etc.
The house had all the basic amenities expected plus a few more. However, it has older parts that are quite rustic with steep stairs, un-level floors, loose boards on the deck, hot water that doesn’t necessarily flow well from all taps, and the noise of the pump when you run the water.
Most VRBO places we go to have at least the basic sports channels and some movie channels available. This one only has very basic cable channels. The beds need upgrading, especially upstairs.
Frankly, for the money and all the fees, I expected a lot more, given the number of rentals we have done with VRBO. Drop the fees and rental by a combined 100 bucks per night and I might come back.

Quiet, Peaceful getaway
The home was big enough for 4. Comfortable beds. Lovely views. Hot Tub was wonderfully warm. Lovely walk on the beach. 10 minutes from downtown Vashon. The kitchen could have been stocked better with essentials-cooking oil.

charming, clean and accommodating!
We had a wonderful time in Annettes beach front house! This house is darling, built ins everywhere you look! The kitchen is wonderfully stocked and large enough for multiple people to cook in. The house was very clean and comfortable. Annette was wonderfully accommodation with us and our late arrival as well. The only recommendation I have, is to ask for the hot tub to be preheated (it was turned to luke warm, i assume to save power). Once we turned it up it warmed up to HOT but took the better part of the night to do it. Thanks for allowing us to stay. Such a quiet peaceful retreat. We can't wait to come visit again!

Nice view but says it's handicapped accessible not really.
The View was excellent the place is clean except for cobwebs just need a little dusting in some areas. I am handicapped upper leg amputee what's they call AK I have a prosthetic but the land is on a slope. The bathroom entrance is too narrow for a wheelchair no hand bars in the restroom. Okay for the good stuff the view was nice had a great time on the deck even though it's a little slanted you can roll down hill pretty quick in your wheelchair. If you get my drift it shouldn't say handicapped accessible!
Other than the accessibility I believe most people would have a nice stay at this location!

Wonderful getaway weekend!
Sometimes you just need to get away from the big city and CHILL! We had the best weekend at Annette's place. It was clean, private, cozy and relaxing. We really love hot tubs and we were not disappointed. Sunrise and sunset---we enjoyed the tub and relaxing. Ahhh... Highly recommend. We will be back.
