About this cottage rental
This enchanting studio cottage nestles in the garden of the owner's house in half an acre of land at the bottom of Monk’s Hill.
It is 5m x 8m (16ft x 27ft) including a deck leading in to the garden of fruit trees, palms and flowers enjoyed by many birds.
3 mins walk from local grocery store & buses
7 mins walk from small hotel beach & 2 Restaurants
5 mins drive from more beaches & marina & bars, cafes & restaurants
The cottage is designed to be open to the breeze throughout the day & night. Tradewinds blow though the windows (installed with white painted burglar bars, no glass or screens). The bathroom is tiled with Travertine tiles and has a waterfall tap into an Egyptian marble sink.
The beautiful hand-made kitchen has a varnished solid Cedar counter & teak stools, perfect for breakfast or chatting to the cook whilst sipping your glass of wine.
The galley-style kitchen has everything you need to prepare a light lunch or a delicious supper for candle-lit dining on the deck. Best for cooking the fresh fish you may have bought from the local fisherman on the docks is the small BBQ by the deck in the garden.
The wardrobe has ample storage for your clothes, spare linens & beach towels as well as your suitcases.
There is no television. Nature’s entertainment in such a secluded and enchanting setting usually means you don’t miss it. There are plenty of books of every kind available. There is good free Fiber-optic WiFi.
The owner lives in the nearby villa "Casa Lucia" (from October through to June), during which she will be delighted to welcome you and help with anything else during your stay. Unless you have questions or need something, she will leave you alone for the rest of your stay.
Neptune’s Jewel is a few minutes’ walk down a tree-lined lane from the Harbour’s most-loved local shop. Wednesday sees the boat from Dominica arrive filling the shop with exotic produce from nearby Nature-Island Dominica. You can expect to buy fresh herbs, a local (& some imported) fruit & vegetables. All the staples you will need to fill your kitchen. There is also an abundant Farmer’s Market 15 mins drive away and a large modern Supermarket 25 mins drive away for more sophisticated imports. Passion fruit, bananas, mangoes, rocket & herbs grow in the garden (in season).
Catamaran Hotel Beach is 5 mins walk away and Pigeon & Windward Beaches are 5 mins drive (or short bus ride & walk away) and boasts two beach bars. Bumpkins, an informal , locally-run wooden, shady bar serving fish, salad and burgers (and the best Lime Daiquiri’s & Pina Coladas on the island) and Catherine’s Café at the other end with an excellent French chef, a high-end menu and exotic cocktails. Both have live music at weekends. The water is clean and clear and safe.
There are 3 more good restaurants within 10 minutes walking distance and many more 5 mins drive away.
A short stroll down the lane takes you to the main road where you can pick up a bus to town or to Nelson’s Dockyard. They are frequent & inepensive (if a little wild !) There are many car rental companies nearby, the owner can arrange or recommend car rental for you if you require. You can park in or outside the property 50 yards from the Cottage entrance. Taxis are reliable and have fixed prices and one of the best lives down the lane.
Pick up one of the many Airport taxis. Cost is about US 50.
Nearby Activities include a Dive School (with a highly recommended Dive Instructor), Fishing Trips, Sailing, squash & tennis, yoga, pilates & gym. Within half an hour there is kite-surfing school, zip-line canopy tours, cultural tours, donkey sanctuary, swimming with rays, golf, museums & eco tours.
There are some fabulous walks in the area. Including a popular one right outside the door to the top of Monk's Hill where there is an old ruined fort and some of the most spectacular views on the island: Organised walks are another option by the Environmental Awareness Group, the 5 am Hiking Club or a wonderful Rasta taking you through the Rain Forest.
Other attractions are Cricket, Steel drums & Reggae, Local bands, Antigua Sailing Week, and the Antigua Classic Regatta.
There are 2 resident cats "Johnny Rotten" & "Little Tiger" who will likely leave you alone but friendly if you wish to say hello.

A lovely traditional style dwelling in a good convenient location. Lucy is a welcoming and most helpful host .
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.
The small beach within an easy walk at the Catamaran Hotel has public access and is worth a visit before venturing further . A hire car is recommended but vehicle condition may be an issue.
On the approach from the main road the first section of track which is unmade was in very poor repair although some pot hole filling was in progress.

We had a wonderful 8 days at Neptune's Jewel, a perfect garden retreat to return to after adventuring across the island each day. It's well located within walking distance to a grocery store, so it's very convenient for essentials, but also close to English Harbour, major beaches, and to many off the beaten path sights. We found the location very convenient overall.
The house is clean and in good condition, and unlike many other options on the island it is set in a beautiful garden and not an empty grass lot. Do you not come to such a destination to enjoy some of the beautiful plants and wildlife? Not a single day went by on the porch without a hummingbird visiting us. Not one! In summary, beautiful. The house is well equipped with a mini fridge, mosquito killing device, floor fan, and everything we needed for our stay, and the host, Lucy, is helpful and accessible, but also knows how to give you peace and privacy.
If I had to complain about anything it would be about sleeping under the mosquito net. You have to be careful about not letting any of those greedy blood suckers in and it's kind of cramped once inside! But I can't deduct any points for that because it was clearly stated in the property description. I suspect it's better this way cause having nets on all the windows would kill all the airflow in the house, and that same airflow kept it nice and pleasant at all times of the day.
Bonus points to the host for some unexpected surprises when compared to other places we've stayed at: The dinnerware, glassware and cutlery were all of high quality, no plastic crap here - even had delicate bowls from Japan! Moreover you have a nice shaded spot to park your car - a nice little plus to avoid getting into an oven whenever you set out for the day :). Lastly the house itself is very well designed and feels spacious and airy - I really can't recall a place that "came together" as well as this one.
All in all, an authentic Caribbean experience, where you get to experience actually being in the Caribbean and not a sterile boring hotel. Hear the crickets sing at night, be visited by hummingbirds, be suspicious of the red throated sparrows eyeing your bread and making runs to steal crumbs - LOL. It was a wonderful place and we are very happy we chose to stay here!

Adorable cozy cottage situated in a beautiful garden scape that is in close proximity to English and Falmouth Harbors and Galleon Beach. Lucy, the host had everything we could need available to us, with a book of instructions and local recommendations which we found very helpful. The place was very clean and exactl Lu as described.
We found the mosquito netting over the bed to be very helpful, as we kept the windows and doors open most of the time for a fantastic breeze. We did encounter the sugar ants as previously mentioned but they didn’t bite and we didn’t find them bothersome. We would highly recommend Neptune’s Jewel and will most certainly be back! Thanks so much Lucy for a wonderful slice of heaven

Nicely designed and decorated cottage located on breezy hillside just above Falmouth Harbour. Lucy is a great host and made sure we had everything we needed for a comfortable stay. If you are into hiking, one of the best trails overlooking English and Falmouth Harbour literally starts outside the back gate.

The cottage is well equipped, and clean. Lucy is a great host and was very quick to bring us a cooler and ice when we realized the new fridge was not working properly.
There are no windows or screens and you have to leave the front and back doors open for a cooling breeze, so you are really living in nature.
There is a mosquito net for sleeping but we were bitten a lot.
Her driving directions to find the cottage were not very good and we got lost in the dark trying to find it.
We did enjoy the surrounding area and proximity to English Harbour.

Unique stay in paradise
We stayed at Lucy's place for a week. We loved the place, it feels like you're staying in nature, situated in a beautiful garden. The place is well appointed, lovely decor and is a great base to explore English Harbour.

Lovely stay at Neptune's Jewel!
My husband and I had an amazing time on our vacation to Antigua. The property is beautiful and quiet. Hummingbirds flit around the garden, and birds are everywhere. We hung out on the porch every morning and evening. The cottage is adorable; decorated perfectly, and very comfortable. It is centrally located, so it is easy to get to all the beaches and sites we wanted to go to and English Harbor. We did rent a car, and found that to be the best way to see the island and get around. Lucy was a great host, full of information and very accessible. This was our first trip to Antigua and we really fell in love with the island and the beautiful beaches. We will definitely come back and we will stay at Neptune's Jewel again! Thanks Lucy! Casa Lucia Paradise
Casa Lucia is in a great location. Easy access to all that's great on Antigua. Falmouth harbour is full of great restaurants and beaches. Lucy's place is very comfortable and the gardens are exquisite! We fell in love with the new cat ,Tiger! If there was anything we needed all we had to do was ask and it was provided. Mosquitoes are a nuisance but that seems to be par for the island. We found that having the small fan blowing over us seemed to keep them away as well as the netting over the bed.The sounds of insects and frogs is mesmerizing . So many birds came to visit. We enjoyed having a car to get around.Driving was challenging but once we realized how relaxed it was and how friendly everyone is we just got into the flow. Feel like you're in the way? Just let them pass with a friendly toot! Didn't try the buses. Taxies are easy to get. You can drive around the entire island in under 4 hours. You will fall in love with Casa Lucia and all the Antiguan people! Nicest we've ever met. No worries!!! Thank you Lucy!

Romantic little hideaway
Very clean and conveniently located with some reasonable eateries and a store within comfortable walking distance (5 minutes downhill!). Have been coming to the area for many years but never ventured uphill to St George’s Fort above us here - very rewarding views and of interest ... well worth the effort (allow 1 - 2 hours). Lucy an excellent hostess .... attentive but left us to our own devices. Quiet romantic place for a safe stay. Have to watch out for the mozzies and the no-see-ems though! Bed is mosquito netted although once they’re in, they’re in! Neptune’s Jewel is very open which means it catches the breezes but can let the little blighters in - a price worth paying. However we sat out most evenings and mornings without repellant and with no problems!

How lucky we were.
Discovering Neptune’s Jewel was such good fortune, and we enjoyed every moment of our holiday. Lucy was there to greet us and show us around when we arrived, and as we walked through the house to the back deck we saw hummingbirds feeding on the flowers just outside the door. The garden is tranquil and beautiful, with shady spots in which to sit, and all manner of carefully tended plants. At night we enjoyed sitting outside watching the stars and during the day we would sometimes see Johnny Rotten taking a dust bath or climbing a tree! The house itself is charming: elegant, cool, and tastefully decorated. Lucy’s eye for style and detail pervades. We feel blessed to have met the beautiful Lucy and benefit from her knowledge and experience; she is wonderful company but is also aware that guests may want time to themselves. She is a rich source of information about the area and the places to visit for hiking, shopping, swimming or snorkelling. Her love of the area and enthusiasm for life on the island is a joy to experience.
The local supermarket, farm shop, fish shop, bakery and roadside stalls provided all that we needed to create some delicious meals and there are many restaurants in the area that cater for all manner of tastes.
The house is in a quiet neighbourhood and the sounds we heard as we awoke were cockerels, bananaquits and goats.
Thank you, Lucy, for a wonderful two weeks; we hope to see you again soon.

A perfect vacation!
We stayed five nights in Neptune's Jewel and only have the highest praise for our experience. The cottage is lovely. Clean, comfortable, safe, spacious, secluded and yet close to restaurants and beaches. Even in the hottest weather there's a lovely ocean breeze. We slept soundly and awoke every morning to songbirds outside our windows. The porch is a perfect place to sip coffee or read a book. By the end of our trip, we were best friends with a pair of bull finches that lived on a nearby branch. Lucy is extraordinary. She's warm and accommodating and generous. We asked if she had a toaster, and, the next day, there it was. You will not find a better host! Thanks for a wonderful vacation, Lucy!

We loved it!
This property is full of charm and character and has everything you need. It is set in the garden - far enough from the owner's house for total privacy but close enough in case you need anything. Lucy was totally charming and we enjoyed a sundowner with her one night and learned a lot about the island.
From a practical point of view the bed is comfortable, the shower powerful and there is a full kitchen. It is walkable to several restaurants, the beach and a good supermarket. The wifi was consistently good.
We felt very safe and slept wth all the shutters open to enjoy the breeze so there was no need for a/c.
We will be back soon I hope.

Relaxing stay in beautiful surroundings
We loved staying in this cottage for ten days in February 2018. We endorse all of the things that previous 5-star reviewers have said about the high level of comfort, beautiful surroundings, excellent location and wonderful host, Lucy, who had thought of everything to make life easier. The cottage is cleverly designed to feel spacious. We used buses a lot and occasional taxis and decided not to bother with a car. One of our most relaxing holidays and we would definitely stay here again.

Neptune's Jewel was fantastic!
My wife and I stayed in Neptune's Jewel for 9 days in January 2018. For those of you, like us, who prefer something other than the all-inclusive type vacation, this is the place for you. The cabin was fantastic, totally meeting our needs. The owner, Lucy, had indicated that a rental car was not necessary and she was so right. A short walk from the cabin got us to the main road and plenty of buses and taxis, which were very economical. There were also restaurants, a grocery store and liquor store all close by and within walking distance. The closest beach was fantastic and only about a 5 to 10 minute bus ride away (cost per person on the bus was only about $1 US). Our host Lucy was also fantastic, very friendly and very helpful....always there when we needed something. Thanks Lucy for a wonderful stay, we really enjoyed it! Five stars not enough - deserves ten!
A beautiful Garden of Eden full of humming birds and other exotic birds, lizards and fabulous blooming trees and shrubs.
Cottage is airy, bright and tastefully decorated and has a very comfortable bed. It is adequately supplied with all you need. Lucy is a cheerful, helpful host and the very few minor problems we had were promptly sorted. One day she even phoned us from town to ask if we needed any shopping bought for us.
We would be more than happy to stay there again and we have no hesitation in recommending Neptune's Jewel to anyone!

A quiet and relaxing stay in a beautiful setting
I stayed for a week in Neptune's Jewel, in what was one of my most relaxing holidays ever. Located in Falmouth, Neptune's Jewel is a gorgeous cottage at the bottom of a large garden. It was lovely to be in an area far away from the hustle and bustle of large hotels and tourism, and instead wake up only to a gentle breeze and sometimes a little cat outside the cottage! Lucy, the host, was friendly and personable and made the stay an absolute pleasure.
When I next come back to Antigua I will be sure to come back here.

Cute but need some work
Your place was clean and nice to look at! It was very warm when arriving and there was only one small fan which did not help very much. The windows need screens to keep the bugs out, large fans to keep the air moving and their was an smell from the container trapping the bugs. We did try to use it for two days but on the second day I was in the shower soaping up and when I turned on the water there was none! My wife had to wash me down with the rain water collect in the back barrow. I think it would have helped saying the a rental car should be rented for the stay, We move on the third day and if it had A/C and covered windows, we would have lasted for the 15 days.

A lovely experience!
Our stay at Neptune's Jewel was a lovely experience! The quiet and relaxing cottage is the perfect alternative to a resort stay. The tropical breezes flowing through the cottage were refreshing and the little birds, frogs, and lizards, that came in for a visit were delightful. The cottage and its amenities are simple, yet elegant, providing everything needed for a very pleasant stay without being complicated. And, Lucy is very hospitable with answering questions, recommendations, directions, etc. We really enjoyed having Neptune's Jewel as our home base as we explored the English and Falmouth Harbour areas. Within walking distance, there is a market and Papa's by the Sea, which quickly became one of our favorite restaurants. Catherines Cafe Plage at Pigeon Point Beach also became a favorite of ours and can be reached by taxi or bus and a short walk. I hope to visit again one day!

A perfect slice of heaven! Serene and soulful digs tucked away in a lovely, landscaped garden
This property is breathtaking and truly a jewel! Lucy has done a splendid job capturing the breezy and laid-back feel of Antigua in this beach-inspired cottage. Surrounded by gorgeous gardens of orchids, palms, and white, pink and red bougainvillea, this treasure really does look exactly like the photos! We stayed for 10 glorious days in late March and - after being home for barely one week - are longing to be back in this very special place. Sweet little banana quits and hummingbirds greeted us each morning on the back veranda as we lounged with our coffee. At night, we kicked back with a glass of wine and took in some of the most spectacular sunsets from our deck chairs. It was the perfect getaway - earthy enough to disconnect from our corporate world yet wired enough should we want to catch-up on our latest Netflix needs. So close to English and Falmouth Harbours and within a very short walking distance of fantastic local restos, grocery and liquor stores. Rounding out this spectacular find was Lucy - our wickedly wonderful host who is now a lifelong friend. Her stunning home nestled at the top of the gated grounds is a treasure in itself. We have the most brilliant memories from this trip and are hoping to get back soon! Think you need an all-inclusive to visit Antigua? You don't. . . and you shouldn't pass on this opportunity for an authentic island vibe.

A beautiful place to stay
This spacious and beautifully designed cottage in a quiet and relaxing garden was a perfect place for me and my girlfriend to hide away in for a few days. An easy walk to the nearest beach and to a cool local supermarket and some good restaurants. The manager is efficient and friendly and provides a great list of places to eat and to see. It really is a perfect place to unwind.

Jewel is a great name for this place
This is one of those VRBO listings that exceeds your expectations. Yes all of the pics are accurate and the cottage is beautiful, but what you don't know from just pictures is all of the wonderful sights and smells. There are birds chirping, fragrant bushes and flowers everywhere, and nearly all the time a gentle breeze blowing. It would be impossible not to relax in this environment. We spent 9 days here and we would go again in a minute. It has everything you need, including a perfectly sized kitchen, a great local grocery down the road, and all of the linens, towels, dishes you might need. I was told international plug inverters might be necessary in Antigua, but Neptune's Jewel has standard "American" outlets. Highly recommended!!

Perfect for a calm and relaxing break
Stayed for a week and did not want to leave! The studio is beautifully light and open, when you stay there you have a little bit of paradise of your own.
It is spacious inside with some really nice design features and also has a deck with seating outside.
