About this cottage rental
WATERFRONT COTTAGE WITH PRIVATE DOCK
Our peaceful cottage sits just in front of a rocky beach and calm cove of the wide Darmariscotta River with a private fishing and boating dock. (The dock is only able to be used after Memorial Day) A summer home surrounded by green lawns and gardens, its many picture windows and large deck provide views of the constantly changing 10 foot tides, of lobstermen hauling their traps, of sunrises, of seals riding the river’s current or of the blue heron that favors fishing in our small cove, and of the picturesque boat harbor downriver.
The heart of the cottage is its large living room, featuring three picture windows facing the river with a view of the harbor boats, another picture window facing the garden, a piano and a wood-burning stove. On one side of the living room is the kitchen, a sitting-dining area with a wall of screened windows also facing the river, and the master bedroom with queen bed and full bath with bathtub. The other side of the living room has an enclosed porch with another sitting area, a bedroom with a full size bed, another bedroom with a twin over full bunk bed, and second bathroom with shower. In addition, is a second common area for these two rooms. This section gives privacy from the master bedroom on the other side of the living room.
Outside is a large deck with lounge chairs, table and charcoal grill, and of course a full view of river activity. Our cove is appropriate for children with both a rocky and sandy area to explore and fish from.
Our quiet home is a five minute walk down a private road to the tiny shipbuilding village of East Boothbay, where the river reverses its flows into the large town pond, a fascination to watch when standing on the village bridge. The village’s dock restaurant serves great lobster meals on its large open deck that faces the yachts and sailboats anchored in the harbor. A general store is around the corner with all the necessities you may need including breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
A five minute drive takes you to Ocean Point, where old cottages line the winding road beside the ocean’s rocky coast, and where visitors stroll for true coastal scenery. A large public cove provides swimming for children and adults; beyond the cove are two miles of wide rock ledges that can be easily climbed over so one can feel the spray of ocean surf crashing onto the rocks, or so one can discover small tidal pools teeming with crabs, mussels and plant life.
Our cottage is a five minute drive to Boothbay, a lively town with waterfront restaurants and cafes where you can watch yachts, sailboats, fishing boats and harbor cruise boats as they head in and out of the charming harbor. Boothbay is also home for the incredible Boothbay Region Botanical Gardens, now quite famous as the largest in New England, and the small Maine State Aquarium, very exciting to children and situated on a beautiful harbor point with picnic tables, grassy lawn and a rocky shore. 13 lighthouses and 15 wildlife land preserves are available for visits and hiking. Kayaking, golf, mini-golf, a new YWCA pool, lobster and clambakes, and boat cruises are always offered, with Windjammer Days (late June), July 4 fireworks, East Boothbay Shipbuilders Festival (August), and on-going craft fairs as special events.
Nearby are Wiscasset, known as the “most picturesque village in Maine” with old sea-captain’s homes and popular “Red Eats” lobster rolls, Freeport with the LLBean flagship store and other famous outlets, Rockport with its Farnsworth Art Museum which features the Wyeth artists’ works, and the nearby “Christina’s Farm” located on an unspoiled peninsula, and Bath with its Maine Maritime Museum. A day’s round trip boat ride brings you to Monhegan Island, a fascinating island known for its footpaths through village homes and artists’ studios.
Our secluded cottage offers the natural peace and beauty for a genuine Maine experience.

We enjoyed our stay at Doug and Wendy’s cottage very much. What a treasure! So many front row seats to the great view. We loved the special touches: a laundry basket (!), all the little details like the spices and plenty of plates glasses cups. The whole house was immaculate and our hosts were very accommodating. The cottage can be a very relaxing homey place to stay, and also has plenty of things nearby to do see hike sit eat! We would love to come back someday.

Beautiful view!!!
Our family stayed at the cabin for a week and loved every minute of it!!! The cabin was clean and comfortable with an amazing view of the Damariscotta River. The home is well designed with the MBR on one end and the other bedrooms/bathroom on the opposite end to ensure privacy. The water facing side of the cabin is literally a wall of windows that provides an extraordinary view. The dock is new and gives you easy access for boating. It’s a short drive to downtown Boothbay or a short walk to the East Boothbay General Store where you can get great pastries and sandwiches. Doug was a fantastic host every step of the way and checked in to be sure we had everything we needed. If you’re looking for a place to experience the charm of Boothbay, this cabin would be a good choice!!!

East Boothbay gem
We had a very relaxing week at this property. The location was quiet and peaceful, views were beautiful from the large, nearly full-wall windows on the river side of the cabin. Great views from the dining area, family room and full-length enclosed porch. The side deck was terrific to just sit and enjoy the days. Our nearly blind retriever mix had a little trouble navigating the slight hill from the car to the house but she learned the routine in a day or two The property owner is wonderful to work with and was very helpful with arrangements. This one is certainly worth a LONG look - and a LONG stay:-)

Excellent location
This cottage has an extremely beautiful setting with gardens and a water view across the entire back of the cottage. The cottage was spotless and well layed out. Doug supplied us with all the information we needed. There were plenty of restaurants nearby. Our favorite place for take-out was the East Boothbay General Store. They have the best sandwiches I have ever had. Farm 23 Bakery is a must for fresh bread and pastries. They also make awesome soup. You definitely cannot go wrong staying here.

Gorgeous View!!
My husband and I stayed at this property with our adult daughter. We absolutely loved it here. The sunrise is the most beautiful I have seen. The house itself is wonderfully outfitted with everything you need as a home away from home. The location is great, close to the harbor, stores and restaurants. The owner Doug Gardner was wonderful, gave easy instructions for check in and a nice welcome gift. Love this property and look forward to staying there again.

Perfect Maine cottage!
We chose the location of Boothbay because it is the ideal smaller & very quaint Maine harbor village & is centrally located to the sites we wanted to explore. And we are so glad we found this particular cottage! It was perfect- location, size, amenities, cleanliness, everything!
We were two couples plus our older dog. The house is ideally split so each couple had their privacy & we could meet in the middle general living areas which included two of the coziest sun porches overlooking the rocky shoreline. The cottage is on a lobster fishing harbor which was so very fun to watch lobstermen checking their traps. I particularly liked this harbor front cottage in order to experience the tides coming in & out twice daily- so mesmerizing. We even saw seals, loons, & an eagle!
The furniture was all very cozy & comfy, including the beds & linens. I must also mention how much we appreciated the attentiveness of our host Doug. He & Wendy were great!
We would absolutely return to this wonderful cottage- it offers THE total Maine experience! We loved every minute of our stay - it truly is a “peaceful retreat!”

Everything you want in a vacation
This is a beautiful property right on the water. Quintessential Maine home with a most congenial host. Very well equipped and central to many Maine attractions. Both couples in our group loved it. A very comfortable master suite at one end and a family suite at the other end. In the middle is lots of living space and lots of windows overlooking the water. We highly recommend this home.

Relaxing summer vacation
We had a lovely time in East Boothbay. You cant beat the location of this house. It was near to everything, but felt so private. The view was incredible. We loved the deck and the bench by the water. The house was well equipped with what we needed, including tools to eat the lobsters that we brought home and enjoyed on the deck. Doug was wonderful and gave us lots of great recommendations. We were vacationing with 2 adult couples and one toddler, and the layout of the house worked perfectly, with the living room separating the 2 living quarters. The only downside I would say for us was that the bedrooms were small in the wing with double bed and bunk bed. I would recommend this property.

Ideal
This is a fantastic house in a perfect location right on the water. It was perfect for my family of four but would accommodate a couple more people pretty easily. The owner Doug is a really nice guy and it was a pleasure to meet him. We’ll continue to come back as long as he’ll have us.

A week of heaven
Loved staying here - a breathtaking view of a working harbor, where weather and light change the scene all the time...Besides boats, there were eagles, osprey, loons, and seals. Warblers and chipmunks are your nearest residents in the lovely garden. Cottage is super comfy and easy and has a wonderful porch. Super clean, attentive property manager. And it's within minutes of hikes along the ocean or in the woods and all the restaurants and happenings of a cute coastal town.

Beautiful house in perfect location
Beautiful house near one of the nicest towns in coastal Maine. Very comfortable and clean with gorgeous water views from the entire back of the house. Front of the house has views of the beautiful landscaping. Lots of comfortable sitting areas in front of the big windows. Mornings with coffee we're very nice on the bench right on the rocks at the waterfront. Also very private and quiet. Could not have asked for a better place. Lots of Maine charm and it is even cuter in person than it is in the photos. The host was extremely nice and professional, I cannot recommend this house more highly!

A great Maine cottage with a beautiful view!
We so enjoyed our stay at the cottage in East Boothbay Maine. Spotlessly clean, spectacular views and quiet. Easy walking distance distance to the local general store. Very good, if somewhat hilly to take a little jog or two walk the dog.
The owner was very helpful without being the slightest bit intrusive. The mid coast area of Maine has wonderful seafood, which we knew about and a wonderful botanical garden which we missed on this trip. Looks like we need to return!

Great waterfront property
We spent 4 days at this location and it was perfect. The house was clean with a well equipped kitchen with all the basics. We had a nice welcome letter from the owners as well. Due to the time of year, the cabin was well stocked with extra warm blankets. There was also plenty of firewood for a evening fire. The sunrise and the waterfront view was a perfect way to start everyday. It was located within 5min of Boothbay Harbor. Doug provided us with countless food ideas in Boothbay as well as surrounding areas. We did try local hiking trails in the area which were easy to find. If you're looking for a great place to sit back and relax, this place is for you. We would highly recommend staying at this house.

We had an absolutely amazing time staying in East Boothbay! The house was perfect with stunning views. Picturesque sun rises and a wonderful spot for evening cocktails on the bench. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could need, the living room was extremely relaxing with with wood burning fireplace and great views, and the bedroom was perfectly comfortable. Doug and Wendy were extremely hospitable, we were happy to have such accommodating and friendly hosts. We were sad to leave, but look forward to coming again next year!

Waterfront Tranquility on Steroids!
The property is very nice. Beautiful waterfront on the estuary of the Damariscotta river. Between the lobster boats, sail boats, hummingbirds, seagulls and osprey the view from the house / deck is constantly changing and is quite captivating. The owners are very nice and are happy to advise you on any issues you may have. A BIG shout-out to the folks at PINKHAMS GOURMET MARKET. They sell and steam live lobsters. They were the best part of our culinary experience in Boothbay Harbor by far! Looking forward to a SPRING repeat in 2021.

I FELL IN LOVE WITH THIS COTTAGE AND THE AREA!
My stay in this cottage was pure bliss! The pictures don't do this comfortable little cottage justice! It is so cute and clean and the views every day are just awesome. Everything you need is in the cottage. You will never be bored staying here as there is just so much to see out in the bay area. From the lobster boats to the different types of birds in the area to the pretty butterflies in the gardens...it is simply amazing. This cottage is also centrally located, so it is an easy drive to some of the nicest places. The little town is about 10 minutes away and you can take different types of boat rides there, and even go whale watching. There are little shops, cafes, and breakfast stops there too. Ocean Point (my favorite) is 15 minutes down the street and the scenery is to die for. The ocean, rocks, boats etc....are breathtaking!!! Doug is such a nice person and is so helpful. All the people in Maine are just so nice. I did not want to go home this year at all. I fell in love with this little cottage and the scenery.

My Happy Place
My husband and I have been vacationing in Maine for many years and love the Boothbay area. This was our first time at Doug’s place and we fell in love with this cozy cottage on the water. We actually only used half of this house as it was just the two of us and our fur baby. The views were fantastic and the bench on the rocks was priceless. The house was very clean and stocked with everything we would need. We really enjoyed the fireplace in the evenings and were delighted to find not only plenty of wood but also fire starter. I would highly recommend this rental and hope to return next fall.

September 21-28, 2019 Stay
Doug, the owner/host was very helpful before and after arrival. ‘Found the vintage cottage to be very clean, well livable in every way, and quaint with a lovely water view.
One drawback was the smallness of the bedrooms, but the beds were very comfortable.
Linens were of good quality and plentiful.
Doug was helpful right down to the printing of our airline departure boarding passes. A very nice Vrbo property and experience.

Beautiful quiet cottage!
We just spent a month at this amazing cottage. We really loved it. It’s exactly as it looks in the pictures. It’s a very quiet, private place, with a wonderful view. I needed to work about half time during the month, and I found the Wi-Fi adequate for doing video conferences.

We had a great vacation! Hope to return soon
We had a great vacation. The cottage was comfortable, spacious, clean and well supplied. It was a real treat to watch the gardens blossom over the week and the tide rise and fall out the windows. It was the right balance of quiet and being close to activities, restaurants, and shopping.

We really enjoyed our stay at this wonderful cottage. It was
very clean and well maintained. We would definitely recommend it to family and friends.

You will feel like this cottage has been in your family for generations. We fell in love with the view and most days just lingered on the enclosed porch or outside on the roomy deck, watching lobster boats, sail boats and crafts of various configurations make their way through the blue, ever changing tides. Look for the heron guarding his hunting ground on the shore below or watch the otters diving for fish. Peaceful and relaxing yet you are just minutes away from restaurants, groceries and downtown Boothbay Harbor. Comfy beds. Relax and enjoy. We were a party of four adults and would recommend.

The views from this charming home on the Damariscotta River were fantastic! The early-risers in the group watched the otters swimming near the river bank. Osprey were often seen flying overhead. It was a short walk to the Lobstermans Wharf restaurant and the East Boothbay General Store. Short commute to great restaurants, sightseeing and shopping in Boothbay Harbor.

We have been vacationing in Maine for 40 years and stay in various locations around the Boothbay area. This cottage is a classic Maine cottage with great views and a perfect location. We found it comfortable for a family of five. Grandma had no trouble with access. Short drive to many of the local attractions. Very relaxing. We hope to visit again in the near future. We would recommend it to anyone, it is worth the rental rates.

We were the first rental of the year and fell in love with the place before we even opened the front door.
The garden was gorgeous and you could see through the large window in the living room out the other side of the house to the water. When we entered the house we were immediately comfortable, no sense of strangeness at all. Everything we could have wanted was provided, right down to the card table, fishing equipment, firewood, etc. The living room is quite large and comfy, with plenty of seating. The entire waterside of the house is a wall of continuous windows. It is great for two couples, which we were, since the bedrooms are on either end of the house, along with bathrooms and even a small kitchette area at one end. One bedroom is quite large and has a large bathroom, which includes a washer and dryer. The other end of the house has two bedrooms, one with a double, the other with twin beds, both quite small, but comfy. The bathroom is small, but adequate and has great water pressure. There are enclosed porches along the waterside, running the length of the house, except where the living room is, and all windowed (opens up and has screens). The water is right there and it is so easy to watch the tides change and the fish run through and the lobsterman getting their traps........We had a couple meals down in East Boothbay at the Lobsterman's Wharf......it was very good, by the way. Boothbay Harbor was very short drive, as was the grocery store, etc. Our road was a dead end road, which added to the privacy and quiet. It was great working with Doug and I am sure if you stay here you will love it as we did.....would not hesitate to return!
