About this house rental
This two-bedroom, one bath home is located on 6 acres; one mile up a gravel private road in the middle of the National Forest (very close to Jewel Cave Monument). I built this home 22 years ago and raised my now adult children there. We rode 4 wheelers and had plenty of fun in the hills, loads of great memories. Awesome family location and the reviews state as much. *** We open our windows at night for the cool air which no matter how hot the day gets the overnight temps will drop down into 60's and 50's. I have ceiling fans in all rooms, and fans for the windows if you choose. I like to live with my surrounding and enjoy the temp fluctuation. And we don't have humidity or pollution. During the warmer months I place two stand alone air conditioner units. One in living room the other in master bedroom (south facing windows).
While staying at my home you will see deer, birds and rabbits daily and on occasion elk and wild turkey; the buffalo's will be on our road probably 1 day out of 7 days of stay. You will hear coyotes at night and elk squeal during the rut. There are no bears in the Black Hills nor are there poisonous snakes or raccoons on my property (the home is at almost at 6000 feet elevation).During your stay the buffalo may block the cattleguard as they like to lick it lol. You may have to wait or drive through the herd while they take over the road and shoulders. It is an excellent opportunity to take pictures up-close of these magnificent animals from your vehicle (roll down your window) DON'T GET OUT OF YOUR VEHICLE, please :)
There is a metal fire pit (north yard) for and inground fire pit on the south yard, 2 hammocks, barbeque (both gas and charcoal), fishing poles, tackle box, board games, Wi-Fi, Netflix. If your family are explorers, you may take back roads to Wyoming, Northern Hills or Crazy Horse. I also supply maps and brochures of the National Forest roads and attractions in the area.
This property is located 8 miles from Custer State Park, 20 miles to Mt. Rushmore and 7 miles from Crazy Horse. No road noise only animal noise on full moons!
I am retired and live in the separate apt with different entrance than the unit. If you want to unplug from civilization this is the location.
Hunters, this home is north of HWY 16 in-between Custer, SD and Newcastle, WY next to Hell Canyon.
I supply towels, sheets, tooth brushes and tooth paste (if you forget), toilet paper, paper towels along with extra blankets and pillows. There is free Wi-Fi along with Netflix on the 50" flat screen, board games and of course the hammocks (use at your own risk). Or just sit on the deck in the evenings a watch the sun set behind the hill. The stars from the deck at night are beautiful. The only light noise is the front porch light which can be shut off.
Come play, hunt, hike, and enjoy the quiet beauty of the Black Hills!
Thank you,
Kaileen

KK is a wonderful host, easy to communicate with, and provides a great property! This space is close to Custer, SD, which is central to many sites: Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse, Custer State Park, Needles Highway, Legion Lake, State Game Lodge, Sylvan Lake, Deadwood, 1880 Train Ride (Hill City-Keystone), Wind Cave Park, Wildlife Loop and Buffalo Safari Jeep Tour (the latter both in Custer State Park). Custer itself offers fun eating places such as Calamity Jane, HJEM A.M. and Custer Beacon. The house is high up and surrounded by pines through which you can hear the wind. Almost every day we saw deer, bunnies, chipmunks, a squirrel and birds on the property. The living room and beds were very comfortable, tv reception and wifi very good and kitchen with everything you would want. I would highly recommend this property for a stay in South Dakota. We were there for our 40th Wedding Anniversary for a week and greatly enjoyed it!

The property exceeded our expectations. Our hostess was wonderful, answered all of our questions was a great communicator, and we had the pleasure of meeting her and she was amazing and very accommodating. The house was centrally located to all the the locations in the the Black Hills and surrounding attractions. This hostess and house are by far the best place we have ever stayed in our many travels.

We three friends enjoyed having a peaceful and quiet place to stay near Custer. The kitchen had all the appliances, pots and pans, and space to prepare our meals. It was comfortable and offered plenty of places to relax inside and out. The deck was great for morning coffee and seeing bluebirds. The bedrooms were comfortable and had plenty of space for our clothes and belongings. if you want a place away from the busyness of town, this is it! Great host, friendly and communicative!

This was the best vacation we have had in years. The host K K was very friendly and made us feel like we were at home. She provided everything you needed and more. The house was clean and comfortable making us not want to leave and go back to the regular work week. From the deck in the evening it was perfect to just sit and watch the deer and beautiful birds. I would stay here again if at all all possible. Thanks KK on providing your home to us. Could not have been any better.

We had an amazing stay. KK is a great hostess. She has excellent communication with us and was very accommodating. The house was perfect and completely different from where we are from❤️ the view of the ponderosa pines was perfect. Do know it’s definitely in the middle of nowhere but not completely desolate. Your 15 minutes from coffee and food but it’s well worth the drive. Our favorite coffee spot was miners in town, our favorite breakfast was 34 minutes away in Wyoming and our favorite dinner was tin city in the hills. The house provided everything we needed and I highly recommend it. ❤️ beds were comfortable shower was hot and every thing was perfect. Thank you KK

Overall, a good stay. There was a lot more traffic on the road to surrounding properties than anticipated. The owner, KK, communicated very well with us.

The nature-surrounded "house in the hills" was most welcoming and chock full of all the comforts of home. KK was readily available to answer any questions and to offer assistance if we needed it. Our first visit to the Black Hills (and surrounding areas) was wonderful in great part due to our accommodations and wonderful host.

This is a very quiet peaceful place with a 10 star host. Perfect for enjoying the wonderful tourist type sites during the day and be able to get away from those tourists in the evening. Great location to hit all the Black Hill sites. Very clean with all the kitchen accessories you could want.
The host even offered to start up the fire pit for us one evening.
Loved the place

Clean, well stocked kitchen items and cook ware. Salt, pepper, and sugar were there.
I travel with my own basic spices that we like so that was fine. But I had to laugh, this time I only had brought a small amount of coffee, but there was a wonderful bag of Dunkin Donut coffee in the cupboard for us, only problem I hadn’t brought my grinder and it was Whole Beans!
We had a wonderful time, ATVing, site seeing and the Hill City 1880 Train is a must! Saw lots of deer and even an Elk!
KK is personal and friendly and we enjoyed our time there.

Custer rental
The property was great. It was located close to Custer and all the area has to offer. Rental had all amenities for comfort and owner was very responsive and friendly. KK does live on site but is a benefit to have nearby. She answered all questions and even set up a swing, hammock, and wood in firepits for us. We could not have asked for a better stay for our week long vacation in South Dakota.

Great experience!
We had a fantastic stay at this property. KK did all she could to make sure we were comfortable. She also did a couple special things for my girls and showed them special places on the property. The house was clean and cozy, lots to entertain us if we needed a quiet evening at home. Plenty of room for the 4 of us. Highly recommend!

Wonderful Time
This property is a little out of the way but so very worth it. The view from the deck is relaxing and refreshing, I can still smell the Ponderosa Pines! Clean, comfortable and well supplied, this stay was wonderful and KK cannot do enough to make you feel right at home. The Black Hills are a fantastic vacation spot - I would book this place again if ever in the area!
