About this cottage rental
McCollum Seaside Cottages are two quaint, one bedroom, self-catering cottages situated on Moosabec Reach in a small, Maine fishing village. Rustic charm mixes with gorgeous views to give visitors a comfortable retreat from the hectic world. Rent individually or together.
The Lupine Cottage is a rustic, studio-style cottage. It has a very rustic, small bathroom and shower and bathroom sink. Built in the early 1900's. Modern plumbing and filtered water added later. New roof put on, but the original ceiling has some interesting patterns.
Equipped with wi-fi (which can sometimes be spotty, not ideal for working and video conferencing may not work) and situated on the bluff up from the shore. Easy walk to the local library, historic society and marina. Easy drive to many points of interest including Bar Harbor, Acadia, Schoodic Point, Quoddy Head State Park and Campobello. Local hiking on Great Wass Island and Bar Island are within a ten minute drive. You can launch your sea kayaks (that you bring yourself or rent from Machias) right from the beach.
Perfect spot to relax and take in the views or use as a launching point for Maine adventures. Eagles, seals, porcupines, and other birds are often seen out front.
The cottage is located on a bank above the shoreline. Moosebec Reach is a working lobster boat harbor. The shore/beach is perfect for hunting for sea glass, discovering things that wash ashore and watching for seals and eagles, not for swimming or playing in the sand. Water is very cold. Tides are about 15 feet, so shore looks very different between high and low tides. We call this "real Maine". There are no quaint restaurants or shops, but lots of hiking and relaxing.
Please note that the property is completely non-smoking. Any smoking must be done off property, either on the road/sidewalk before the property or on the beach below.
Please note that one must walk through uneven grass from the parking area and go up 3-4 steps to enter the cottage. It is not accessible to people with difficulty walking.
A new larger bathroom (though still small) is being put on this fall (2023).

Loved our stay at the cozy Lupine Cottage. Relaxing on the deck and enjoying the view was fantastic. Day trips to Winter Harbor, Bar Harbor, Jasper Beach, Roque Bluffs and Lubec were wonderful. Boat trip from Lubec to see Old Sow Whirlpool, a Finn Whale, seals, a Bald Eagle was fantastic. An of course fresh Lobster from the pier. Life doesn’t get any better. Highly recommend.

Had a great stay. Property was as advertised. Very simple, and clean with all necessities. Location was stunning and very close to everything I wanted. Extremely quiet. Host was excellent and quick at all communication. Not for someone who wants a vacation with shopping and dining out nearby, but for someone who wants some tranquility and excellent outdoor opportunities, this is it!

Perfect getaway
If you want to experience the authentic Maine Coast, this is the place to go. Charming cottage right on the water's edge. This is a working harbor, so you awaken to the sound of the lobster boats leaving at dawn.

A Haven of a Place...
The Lupine Seaside Cottage is a haven... Even if you have never been here before coming through the door you are embraced with a feeling of home. A place that feeds all the senses... the salty sea air, the ocean breeze, the tides, the activity of the harbor, a cup of joe on the deck a truly soul soothing experience.

The cottage has a wonderful view. We loved the area. This cottage would be a great place to buy a bunch of groceries and hunker down for a few days. But also there are many things to do not to far away. We went to Machias and Lubec to explore and also made it to Acadia and Bar Harbor.

A lovely one-room cottage on the water in Jonesport. Very relaxing and peaceful. Those with mobility issues may have difficulties using the toilet, which is located in a tiny closet (less space than in an airliner). Otherwise, a delightful getaway.

Such a quaint cozy cabin with an AMAZING view! Easy access to the beach, beautiful sunrises as well as sunsets! Cabin includes "everything needed" for a vacation stay. Short travel to Machia's hot spots (Helen's Restaurant & The French Cellar, Rogues Bluff and Jasper Beach to name a few) All communications with Heather prior to and @ check in were so positive! Heather has a thorough binder highlighting high/low tides/sunrise/sunsetimes and so many places you might want to take a day trip to. My only complaint was I did not book a long enough stay! Can't wait to return next year! I can't thank Heather enough for sharing her little slice of heaven on Maines beautiful coastline! Sharon

The cottage is right on a short bluff overlooking the harbor. There are stair right to the beach, which is great for beachcombing. We had our 12 year-old son who loved to look for crabs and shells. We watched the lobster boats come and go everyday. There's a small table to sit on the deck and some chairs to take down to the beach. The inside of the cottage is rustic but clean. It had everything we needed. There's a small grocery store about a mile outside of town that has basically everything you need. We drove to Machias (about 30 minutes) and had the most delicious lobster roll at Helen's Restaurant. This was a great day trip. We also packed lunches and hiked Great Wass- again a great day trip. There's a sand beach about 5 miles outside of town that we spent a day at, too. If you like the outdoors, and enjoy a simpler-type vacation, this is a must!

We really enjoyed our stay at Lupine Cottage. The property was just as described. We walked the little gravel beach each morning with our dog, explored area hiking trails and sand beaches and relaxed in the cozy cottage. Jonesport is "off the beaten path" - very quiet and relaxing.

Cozy waterfront cottage
While weather was not great the cottage was cozy and a welcome retreat after being out and about in foggy, rainy weather.
Jonesport is a small fishing town and we were prepared to drive as needed for any activities. Had the weather been nicer we would have enjoyed staying closer and enjoying oceanfront scenery. Anyone staying there should be prepared to drive 30 min in any direction for others sites, restaurants etc., Overall, a nice getaway and Heather was always very responsive to all our questions about our trip.

I was looking for an easy comfortable space near my son and his family as they welcomed a new baby. The cottage was ideal for one person but would also be great for a couple. Very comfortable and Heather and her dad Ric were helpful on every level. I had my dog with me and we took the stairs down to the beach in front every day.We also discovered many beautiful spots within a short distance. All in all a good spot

Great location and price. Situated on beach property in nice quiet town between Acadia National Park and Campobello International Park. Nice steps to water, but we swam in Rogue Bluffs State Park. There are several nice eateries, but also enjoyed "home"-cooked meals. We didn't miss TV at all - thanks to nice selection of DVDs. Full moon over the ocean was gorgeous! The owners are friendly and very helpful. Cabin was clean and comfy.

Beautiful spot!
A high point was sitting and drinking tea on the deck each morning and watching the boats heading out! Wonderful area - we hiked, biked, and kayaked!

Clean, simple cottage located right in Jonesport with beautiful views of the harbor.
Overall very happy with the accommodation.
Internet weak (as advertised).

What a perfect place
This cottage was the perfect size and looked right out over the water. We spent a lot of time out front on the porch, and down on the beach looking for sea glass. We found oodles! This part of Maine is one of my favorite places - so peaceful and quiet. It’s just remote enough to have amazing views, trails to hike, ocean sounds, and perfect weather. Jonesport is only a short drive from so many beautiful places, including Acadia. Tunk Mountain is worth the hike. Campobello is a short drive up the road. The Machias Blueberry Festival was so much fun. This vacation could not have been better (unless of course it was longer). Thank you to Heather, Rick, Donna, Lisa and Yuzu for sharing your wonderful little cottage with us.

Enjoyed the quiet and the views were to die for!
Loved running into the people of the town, the whole atmosphere of the town takes a person back to what a town should be! My son Joshua especially loved it as it took him away from a place where no one seems to care for anyone! Loved the view every morning and the fog that seemed to come in daily! Makes one forget there are problems and scum in the world today! I actually enjoyed having no TV or internet! We toured most of Maine and Canada from where we stayed and didn't mind the drive to the places we wanted to go! I feel so renewed and my son and I had a wonderful time! The first night there, it was as if GOD greeted us with high winds, and the last night there was the same! Made me realize we all need to get back to basics and just enjoying the wonders of this NATION that GOD BLESSED us with! The history of the USA is so rich up there and it's upsetting the kids don't get enough of the beginning of our country! All in all Heather I truly enjoyed staying at your cottage, and GOD WILLING I will be back!

The only issue I had was very spotty, off and in Internet. Important to me as I was depending on my phone....all else perfect

Scenic, peaceful getaway.
We loved the town and area, very few tourists. My family and I were easily able to relax. The cottage is clean, neat, and everything works. The view from the deck is outstanding. We'll likely go back.

Rustic - very clean and in top working condition - a great retreat!
I loved this cottage. It was clean and neat with everything working and in order. Sheets and towels were provided which was nice. If you go in cold weather, know that the thermostat works the gas stove. I didn't know that until my last night. It gets cold in Maine in autumn. Fantastic views! Unfortunately, I only had one day of sunny autumn Maine, but even with the cold and rain, I enjoyed the area, the hikes, and the friendly people. You are only 30 minutes from visiting Campo Bello.

Location, location, location.
Jonesport is a beautiful unassuming working village. If you want to get away and not arive at a place that seems like everything you are trying to get away from is surrounding you. This is the place.

Fluffy is awesome
A very cozy, quiet place right on the water. Awesome spot if you're looking for somewhere to relax and have some peace and quiet. The cottage was very clean with warm water, suitable for two people. The owner had a very friendly dog that enjoyed our company as well. Great Wass Island was a ten minute drive and is a beautiful place to visit if you're into hiking and sightseeing.

A veiw like no other
What a great view, I am so glad I chose this cabin as it was clean, affordable, and well supplied. The Cabin was for two people Max, but that was okay for me. It was close to beaches and Acadia National Park. If want a beautiful location to relax and chill out this is it.
