About this cottage rental
Our Carriage House is located on a beautiful stretch of Maine's mid-coast area. Conveniently located between the two towns of Belfast and Camden, the house is set in a very private area, at the end of a mile-long paved, private cul-de-sac drive. Nestled into a wooded ridge at the foot of Jackson Hill, the Carriage House is an ideal vacation home for a family or a couple looking for peaceful, upscale lodgings while exploring coastal Maine.
The house was built in 2004. The main living space is the eat-in kitchen, with cathedral ceilings, a granite and stainless look and modern appliances. As foodies, we focused on the kitchen, with all the expected appliances including a dual fuel range, but also a KitchenAid mixer, a blender, a salad spinner, a wine fridge and an espresso machine. The master bedroom has a queen bed and a twin in a cozy alcove separated by a curtain. An adjoining bathroom has two locking doors, while the second bedroom has two twins. These could be made into bunkbeds if preferred. Larger groups have a 6th guest sleep on a large couch downstairs.
There are three outside decks. A small shaded balcony off the kitchen offers a lovely place to have enjoy morning coffee while viewing the beautiful wooded surroundings, mountains, and distant ocean. The larger front patio has a table and 4 chairs and is good for enjoying the woodland scenery, relaxing or sunbathing. The back patio is the perfect place for outside grilling, sunning, or reading.
All the upstairs rooms have window screens and ceiling fans, and supplemental air conditioning is available, though the home stays pretty cool built into the hillside in our cool climate. We are members of our local community solar energy project, which provides the electricity.
The neighborhood is a quiet and natural setting. Many of our neighbors enjoy walking the mile-long road for exercise and fresh air. Come and check out our cottage in Mid-Coast Maine!

Outside lights not and it was dark at check in.
House was too warm but we were able to close off bedroom for cooler sleeping.
Property was great but needed some tending to.
No ice and it was summer.
No comfortable outdoor furniture on decks.

I found Vrbo process for messaging our host impossible. I was sent a code which was said to be incorrect. After numerous attempts I gave up. Fortunately our host lived nearby and met us in person nice man and nice place

We really enjoyed our stay at the carriage house! Nice location close to a few different towns and very quiet at night. Kitchen was well stocked and plenty of towels and linens.

The property worked fine for us but may be difficult for more guests given just 1 bathroom. The house needs some maintenance but we were not bothered by it. The house location is private and quiet. We enjoyed the balcony. Would have loved a firepit or hottub (especially after big hikes)! The kitchen was adequately appointed which allowed us to cook at the house comfortably. The bedding was comfortable. The price point was appropriate.

Very cooperative host—helpful, communicative. Very nice property.
Short term cleaning was good—floors, carpets, sinks, tub, toilet, counters, furniture, fridge and stove were all clean. Cleaning supplies were more than adequate.

Great base location for seeing the mid-coast region, whether it be Camden, Belfast, Lincolnville or Bar Harbor. Not for someone looking to be in the middle of town. Enjoyed a few meals listening to the rustling leaves, singing birds and soft maritime breezes. Clean and comfortable.

Wonderful, Peaceful Stay
We really enjoyed the peacefulness of Joseph's place. It was a few miles outside all the hustle and bustle of Camden, but close enough to enjoy all the wonderful restaurants and walk the town.
Great home base to explore the Maine coast or just hang up and relax. Thank you Joseph for your hospitality!

This was our first trip to Maine. We looked at hundreds of places to stay before picking this one and we hit a home run. Great place to stay. Property was as advertised. Very quiet secluded location in a great area. Would stay there again if and when the opportunity arises. Joe was easy to reach and communicate with. He was very helpful.

This was the perfect home base for our family of 5 to explore coastal Maine. We spent time in Old Orchard Beach, Portland, Boothbay Harbor, Camden, Rockland, Rockport, Belfast, Acadia, & Bar Harbor. The wooded setting was beautiful & private. The home was lovely, clean, & comfortable. We would highly recommend. The owner went over and above when we had personal issue. He could not have been more helpful.

Needs work to bring it up to par
As others have noted, the location of this property is excellent for exploring the mid coast of Maine. It is close to Camden, Bar Harbor, Belfast, and many other tourist destinations. Also, although the property is right off Rt. 1, it is quite and secluded.
This being said, however, the property is in need of a serious refresh and decluttering. The main couch in the living area has been patched and still has a large rip in it, broken chair, light bulbs that need replacing, cabinets that need cleaning, garbage that was never picked up, a table that we were afraid to touch for fear that it would collapse, etc. Additionally, there was no over-the-air TV, the wi-fi was spotty, and the "smart" TV would never connect to the wi-fi.
With a bit of work and freshening, this property would be worthy of 5 stars, but not as it is.

The carriage house is in an amazing location for exploring Maine and has a great layout for a family. That said, the property wasn't super clean and some of the furniture was a bit run down. Overall, we had a great stay but wasn't quite what we expected.

Quiet, small getaway in the woods. Convenient to Camden and Belfast. Newish house, good spaces, high ceilings, natural light. Wonderful balcony overlooking the woods. Well-equipped kitchen. Would benefit from some maintenance and more attention to cleaning between guests, as well as clearer information on check-in and amenities in the house.

Great location! The house was extremely hot upon our arrival due to a hot front but thankfully the window unit cooled the master bedroom with all the fires remaining closed. Great neighborhood.

Great getaway
Amazing location. Quiet and secluded spot but still a very short drive to all the great restaurants in Camden and the cute family beach in Lincolnville. Mid-coast Maine location is ideal as a base camp to do day trips to both Acadia National Park and beaches in the south.
Joe, the host, is a pleasure to deal with.

This property was as described, "Exquisite Carriage House in Beautiful Coastal Maine". My wife and I have been involved in an "affair" with this part of Maine for over 10 years. Every year we pick a different home to stay in. This was by far the most elegant and peaceful we have found. It is perfectly located between Camden and Belfast and offers privacy while you can easily get to Route 1 and begin your adventures each day. There is plenty to do in this area! We spent our last day on Islesboro, which is a great, quiet, Maine island. Don't miss the oportunity to check it out. Our host, Joe, was a congenial man who wanted us to be comfortable and happy. His home was the vehicle for this needed get away. When we left he asked me if I had any suggestions to improve our stay or his Carriage House. All I could say was, it seemed and was perfect for us. Thankyou for a quiet, private and comfortable refuge for our stay. Hope to return soon. Michael & Linda, New Hampshire.

North woods retreat
We enjoyed the Carriage House for the month of Oct. and could have stayed longer. The cottage is tucked into the hillside with lovely natural landscaping. Each time we drove up the road from the highway, we felt that we were returning home. The inside of the cottage is sunny, tastefully decorated, and very comfortable. The upstairs kitchen and dining room have a great view. Our favorite activities were hiking, beachcombing, and prowling around Camden. We'd recommend this cottage to anyone who likes privacy and a natural setting.

Absolutely amazing!
Beautiful cottage nestled in a woodland setting in mid coast Maine.
My husband and I spent 2 1/2 months there and we had a wonderful time!
The house is very comfortable and nicely decorated. Located right in between Belfast and Camden, two quaint and amazingly beautiful towns.
Joe, the owner is very nice and accommodating. Always available when needed.
We had great weather, saw the leaves change color....and we also got to see some snow!
If you're looking for a place to stay while exploring the coast of Maine, this is definitely the place!
We'll go back to Northport one day, and hopefully the cottage will be available.
Thanks for everything Joe!

excellent house mid-coast Maine
House is private, in a quiet spot, nearly new inside, well-maintained, has great light, and was nicely appointed. Gas stove and decent cooking gear a real plus. Nice variety of decks & spaces. OK wireless. Great location for general mid-coast Maine activities. Near oodles of kayaking & hiking, not even counting the ocean. We are pretty low-maintenance so didn't ask much from owners, but they seemed very nice. Minor negatives: no dressers/bureaus for clothes in Master Bedroom. Bed not the greatest - too squishy & had troughs.

Fantastic!
We had the perfect holiday and your lovely carriage house couldn't have suited us better. The house was clean, quiet, comfortable, and spacious. Also, it was a great value. The owners are lovely people and aim to please. We hope to return next year.

Wonderful retreat in Northport, ME!
We just returned from a four-night stay at the Carriage House. Per the listing and reviews below, there is no cable or internet, but we didn't need it! At first we were concerned at how we would "survive" but after one day without we realized how truely relaxing it is to not have these things we have come to rely on. A real vacation for us away from the hussle of everyday life. We did rent DVDs from the Redbox located at the Hannaford in Camden, about a 10 minute drive south on Rt. 1, and remarked at how nice is was to watch movies - something we don't do often. The Carriage House itself was clean and very comfortable. Ceiling fans in all the rooms circulate the fresh Maine air very efficiently and keep the house cool. We have an infant daughter so we set up her pack and play in the second bedroom which was great - the blinds in this room are even babyproofed without a cord! The location is superb for Camden, Rockland, Rockport and Belfast. We also took a day trip up to Acadia and Bar Harbor, which took us under 2 hours. Beth and Joe are excellent hosts, and were very attentive to our needs. We highly recommend staying here for a relaxing vacation where you are able to completely unwind and enjoy the coast of Maine.

pretty nice, but with disclaimers
We stayed there a week. It IS private and fairly clean. We had a nice visit and the place was roomy as advertised. However, there was NO TV service there and you need to rent dvd's (Redbox in Belfast is 10 miles). No Internet service either! wi-fi should be included for the price- esp. if there is no TV. limited cell service made surfing for things to do difficult. Upstairs the bathroom is very close to master bed and anyone in it can be heard quite clearly from either bedroom. The kitchen drawers needed cleaning- we always wash dishes/ silver before using anyway.
If you are a runner, you either run down to the highway (about 1/2 mile) and then run on it, or you need to drive somewhere to run. we discovered a gym with treadmills and running trails at a close by resort by accident at the end of our stay.....The cabin's location was very convenient to Lincolnville, Camden, Rockport, and then North to Bar Harbor for the Acadia Nat. Park area. Whale watching was worth it- we saw several whales and dolphins.
Take the trailhead off S.R. 173 to top of Mt. Baldrock for spectacular views- they no longer offer horses there, but it's only 1.3 miles.
Kayaking at Ducktrap Kayaks on S.R.1 was good. They will haul Kayaks to ocean or Norton Pond/ Lake Megunticook and then come get you as well for cheap. My son and I saw a Bald Eagle on the lake. Lobster festival (in August) in Rockland was fun too. Lots of good places to eat in Camden. The Blueberry beer was great. OH, Horse flys are bad and you will need bugspray anytime you go outside in daytime. Mosquitos at night too- but this is Maine...
Dots coffee shop just south of Lincolnville Beach had good food and coffee too.

Spacious, comfortable cottage overlooking mid-coast Maine
My family stayed at the "Carriage House" for a family wedding and found it so much roomier, cleaner and more comfortable than the hotel/motel experience most of the guests experienced. The owners made sure we had everything we needed, including dishwasher detergent delivered within an hour of my request; the kitchen was fully equipped, as was the laundry, there is a roomy downstairs tv and relaxation area below the bedrooms and kitchen. I loved the location near Lincolnville where there is swimming, a great lobster restaurant and the ferry to Isleboro; it is also near hiking in Camden Hills.

My family and I stayed he...
My family and I stayed here recently. This home is even nicer than the pictures and description. Absolutely beautiful, high quality, totally private home in a great area. We were very comfortable here. The owners are great folks who went out of their way to make our stay the best it could be. I hope future guests treat the property with the care it deserves, because we’ll definitely be back, and want it to be just as perfect next time!
