About this house rental
This is a roomy, stunningly beautiful log home on a 40 acre estate on the shores of Douglas Lake. It is the main house for the estate, and there is a small house that is also available for short term rentals. If interested, inquire about renting both houses at the same time for a fantastic stay! The VRBO number for the other property is #1493033 if you would like to check it out. Those are the only two homes on the estate. Each house has a private dock in separate coves of the lake. Check out the Google location function and description for more about the property.
This is not your average rental place. It is a luxury home built specifically as the flagship home for Hearthstone Inc., the premier log & timber home manufacturing company in the country. It was featured in Log Home Living in July 2001. Look around a bit and you'll find a great article about it.
The wonderful feature about this property is that, despite the perfect location, it feels as if you are off in a peaceful world by yourself. The lodge itself is at the end of a peninsula with a half mile driveway away from the nearest road and is surrounded by a 28,000 acre lake.
There is no other piece of rental or residential property near here to compare in terms of beauty, location, activities, ease of access to interstates, and many attractions - without sacrificing peace, quiet, tranquility, and privacy.
Douglas Lake is a premier destination recreational and fishing lake with over 28,000 acres and more than 500 miles of shore line that spans over 30 miles long across multiple counties. However, Douglas is still quiet, relaxing place to be and provides good fun for all ages!
This home is located less than a mile from Dandridge, a charming, historical town that is credited with being the 2nd oldest town in Tennessee. The Point Marina and Restaurant is roughly a quarter mile away and offers dinner with impeccable views. Just 3 miles away, Exit 417 off of I-40 also offers additional places to eat. We are located about 30-50 minutes to Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge tourist attractions or the Great Smoky Mountains, where there is family fun for every type of adventure. Knoxville is 30 miles away and features great restaurants and shopping locations. Asheville, NC, is about 85 miles away if you are looking for a short day trip during your stay. Hot Springs, NC, is about 40 miles away and offers a resort and spa with real hot spring tubs. This home is at a premier location on Douglas Lake with easy access to everything in the region. That is, IF you ever want to leave the property!
On the property, there is a private dock for each of the two homes located in separate coves. A 26' Tri-toon pontoon boat with a 150 hp four-stroke motor is available for rent, and there are kayaks and paddleboats around for free.
We have horses, but they are more suitable for admiring and petting than riding. They are very gentle, but have not been ridden much the past couple years. They love the attention when they're not grazing on the grass around the property. There are also a couple of trails for hiking as well as a campsite on the property that has a fire ring, picnic table, and a place for a tent or two.
There is a master suite (bed and bath) on the first floor, a fully-equipped chef-level kitchen, large dining room, a half-bath, and a living room with a fireplace on the first floor.
On the second floor, there are three bedrooms. The first features a queen bed and two twin-size bunk beds, as well as two hammocks in the loft above the room. The loft is accessible via a real climbing tree, which is great for adventurous kids! The remaining two rooms feature queen beds. A ladder's climb will arrive you at the 5th and final bedroom, which sits up in a lofted area on the West wing of the house and features a full-sized bed.
There are two full bathrooms on the second floor, as well as a fully-equipped laundry room and upstairs common area.
As previously mentioned, there are two lofts on the third level. One is above and a part of the bunk East bedroom, while the other is a separate bedroom accessible by a "ship's ladder" and has a full-size bed.
That arrangement allows for 12 people, but can accommodate up to 14 with high-quality memory foam floor mattresses. Because extra bed space will have to be used, there is an additional charge for each person over 12 guests.
There are many rental log cabins in this area, but this one is noticeably different from the rest due to the immaculate construction, beautiful property, and ideal location. Your visit here will be a very, very different experience from any other rental in this area.
This is a true reproduction of the cabins that were built in this area 200 years ago, but with all the modern conveniences and 40 acres of private property. This cabin actually is a home. It was not built as a rental cabin, and you can tell the difference.

This is our family’s fourth time staying at the Giles’ 5 bedroom cabin, and we absolutely love it. We had 6 adults and 3 kids stay very comfortably. There is access to the water for floating and another area with a dock for boating. The large dinner table that can seat 10 people is great for our family meals. Our family brings fencing to wrap around the patio because there are areas where our 16 month old could easily fall. Another recommendation is to bring black out curtains if your little ones need it because there are no blinds and some rooms have skylights. Randy, the owner, is very easy to reach and always so friendly. We have already booked our stay for next year!

Our first VRBO experience and it was perfect. We asked our family to give us one thing they loved about it--here's a sampling: The quiet (but close enough to groceries, etc.). The very well equipped kitchen and dining table big enough for all 11 of us. Morning coffee on the porch with a great view. The porches, deck, and grill. The climbing trees (some are in the house!). Swimming and kayaking in the cove. The mattresses! And the warm, welcoming, laid-back host, so friendly and helpful. And the visiting dogs.
If you rent this (hurry; we're already rebooking for next year), rent the boat too: it makes the dock so usable. Such a great vacation for our clan!

This place is special. Our second time to this property and won’t be the last. This place is unique. The grounds, the homes, the privacy, the host. It’s all special and unique. We had 15 people in the two homes and despite some challenging weather we still had a very special and memorable week. We rented the boat and so nice not to have to pick up or return a boat to a seperate location. Owner is very helpful and attentive. Having 40 acres and two coves with 2 docks and a beach area ( no sand bring water shoes) was an experience I have not found anywhere else. I love Douglas lake and Dandridge. And I don’t believe there is a better place to stay on this lake.
If you love the outdoors this place has the best outdoor space you will find for rent on Douglas lake. And the home is very well appointed and is very clean and comfortable.
A+ for the Host. You have created something very special here.

We stayed at Randy’s cabin this June and had an absolute blast. We have stayed in different cabins and houses on Douglas Lake but this one is the epitome of lake life. The house is great for lots of people and the kids loved the loft and bunk beds. We enjoyed the dining room every night because we could all fit and have conversations with everyone. We rented Randy’s pontoon boat for the week and really appreciate all the extra time he and Wade spent working out the battery issues so we could enjoy our vacation. Our dogs also loved the shallow water at the end of the yard so they could get in and cool off while playing with the kids. The cabin is very close to Dandridge making it very convenient to put our boat in at the public ramp less than a 1/2 mile down the road. We were also able to take advantage of the cabins proximity to Cherokee National Forest to go hiking with the dogs but with the grounds and back porch overlooking a small private bay, there’s plenty to keep you entertained. Our group had a great time and really appreciate Randy’s hospitality the entire time we were there.

This is our 4th time staying at this property. It is well worth the drive from Ohio. One of my all time favorite places to stay. Randy is super helpful and a genuine nice person. Beautiful for hiking, swimming, kayaking, fishing and enjoying all the animals. Dogs, horses, mules and a cat are on property and my family loves them. The house itself is secluded and peaceful. Amazing views of lake Douglas and has a fire pit, smoker and grill. House is always clean and has all the amenities you could wish for. We had a party of 9 ranging in age from 13 to 50 plus and plenty of room for everyone to be comfortable. Can not say enough good things about Randy and this property. Love it.

This is our third year of coming to the Giles Ranch for our family vacation, and we already have next year booked ❤️. The property is perfect for us. Plenty of space, well maintained, large dining room for our entire family, beautiful front porch with chairs to relax. The large back patio has the awesome view of the lake. There is just enough land between the house and the lake that we don’t worry about the little kids falling in. The private dock is a bonus and you can rent their pontoon boat. Our family is growing, so we also rented the nearby ‘original’ family home of the Giles which is next door. These are the only two homes on the 20 acre property, so plenty of privacy. A nice sized grocery store is only a 5 minute drive away in the quaint little town of Dandridge. We love it!

Property was great for our family of 10. 6 adults and 4 kids felt very comfortable in the home, and could definitely support a few more kids as well. Owner was great in terms of being attentive and responsive before and during our stay. Nothing negative to say about our stay. Option to rent a boat and enjoy the beautiful lake was great. Our next family lake vacation will be at this property.

We had a wonderful time in this beautiful home. It had all of the amenities you could need like bed and bath linens including lake towels! It even had some amenities I didn’t know I need like heated toilet seats. Randy was kind enough to let us include our 4-legged family members in the family memories. (Although the house came with it’s own 4 outdoor dogs and a cat if you don’t have your own!)
Our time there included a violent thunderstorm that uprooted many trees and left us without power for one afternoon/night. Randy was VERY responsive to make sure we were all ok and he and some of his help got a generator up and running in no time which powered the important things in the house like well water, water heater, refrigerator, and even some lights. And they cleared enough of the trees so that we could enjoy the patio again.
The lake cove was very secluded and safe where we could float around, dive, swim, and kayak. Randy even helped us with his boat which we took out one evening to check out the rest of the lake.
The area is beautiful and close to lots of activities including the Smokey Mountain National Park, Dollywood, Bushs Baked Beans, and Historic Dandridge.
We recommend!

This property truly is blissful. This is our second stay on this property, but the first time at this house. Randy is great to communicate with and everything you need (and more) is available at the house.
A few comments:
- This property is not for young kids. It is all wood, with ladders, tree climbs, rope swings IN the house, so I would keep the little ones (under 8) at home.
- Dogs. Randy has several dogs and they like to hang around the house. We personally loved it, and played fetch all day with the pups.
- Steep walk to the lake. The steps to the lake can be steep toward the end and if they are a little wet, can be a little slippery. My mother (72) had a little difficulty getting down to and up from the dock since there was no handrail.
- Access to local attractions. Conveniently located about 35-45 min from Pigeon Forge and an hour from the entrance to the Smokey Mountain National Park. This was close enough for us, particularly since it was so beautiful and quiet at Douglas Lake.
We will likely be back, whether it is just my family of 4 or our entire family of 13.
Thanks again for a fantastic stay!

Thank you Randy for opening up your home to our family and friends and talking with us. We rented both the house and cabin and both were absolutely beautiful. The house was well stocked with plenty of kitchen items that we used, bathroom towels and supplies, lake towels and plenty of seating for our group. The back patio was fantastic and we used the built-in smoker and fire pit. We loved having the dogs around and the kids really enjoyed playing with them down at the lake, especially Shine who would dive for rocks! Having the dock and private cove area made for a very peaceful week on the lake. The kayaks that were available for us to use were very nice and added some more extra fun to our trip! We have been to the Smokey's three times and this by far, was our favorite place to stay! Thanks again for a wonderful week and we hope some day to return!

Well maintained and a lot to do on the property as well as local area. Only caution, there is significant hiking down to dock and back up. I’m a retiree using a cane so I just needed to take my time. Rest of family wasn’t even slowed.

The hosts of this property are wonderful. We couldn’t have asked for anyone better. The property is gorgeous, in a perfect location and perfect for a peaceful, secluded getaway. I highly recommend it.

Being greeted by sweet dogs was the perfect start to our vacation. The cabin was perfect for our multigenerational family. The grandparents stayed on the first floor while the rest of the adults and kids slept upstairs. The kids loved climbing the inside tree to the loft and our 16 year old enjoyed his private loft space. Randy provided firewood as needed for the firepit and the kayaks were great for a warm fall day. The kids (3, 8, 13, 16) rarely looked at their phones as they had plenty of fun things to do on site. They are already asking to go back. Location is perfect as you are close to town and about 45 minutes to Dollywood area. Perfect way to relax and unwind.

This is our second year at this property, and we’ve already booked next year! The Giles family is wonderful and accommodating. It’s secluded, has its own boat dock and mini beach area. There’s just enough distance between the house and the lake that we didn’t worry about the two toddlers safety. The home is spacious with whimsical tree house inspired decor. The kitchen is well appointed, and the large attached dining room with a table that seats 12 comfortably is quite a bonus. Can’t wait to return next year 👍🏻

Our multi-generational family enjoyed a wonderful holiday weekend at Giles Ranch. The house is beautiful, beds comfy, and Randy, our host, was great. We will definitely be back. Thank you Randy!

Fantastic cabin for my 8 person yearly men’s trip, and highly recommend. Lake front access with a small gravel beach to bring the kayaks up, and a private dock down the stone path right behind cabin made access to lake extremely easy. The pontoon is available to rent and was at the dock ready to go when I arrived. The cabin itself was great. Plenty of indoor and outdoor space in a stately log cabin that is well maintained, and enough beds for our group. Kitchen has plenty of pots and pans and a professional fridge and cook top which was heavily used during the trip without issue. The back patio is incredible, has a propane grill for use, a large BBQ pit for the diehard BBQ fans, and plenty of outdoor seating (brought my own Traeger smoker for this trip). The host is easily accessible and very helpful. There are family dogs (2 older labs and a very athletic boxer mix) that stay on this property and as dog lovers we really enjoyed having them around. If they are too much for your group, the host offered to take them to a separate property on the farm if need be. We didn’t have to worry about that! Overall well worth the drive down. We were really impressed with how clean and quiet Douglas Lake was, the lake is beautiful and we found multiple coves with quiet water and wonderful wildlife which made the perfect setting to crack a few beers and relax!

Our family of five had the most relaxing week at Giles Ranch. The house is so unique and staying on lake Douglas was a treat! We were able to rent Randy’s pontoon boat and took full advantage of the kayaks and swimming off the dock. We highly recommend this property, and our host Randy was the absolute best!

Our family thoroughly enjoyed staying at this property. We had 9 adults plus 2 children (7 & 11) There was plenty of room for everyone and everything you would need. Note: the kitchen stove is a gas one . In addition, one of my sons and his family stayed in the smaller house on the property, which was about 300 ft from the big house. This allowed us to easily all get together! We loved the back porch, and it was great to have a dock on the property. It allowed us to drop off/pick up people in our pontoon boat. There was also a large multi-people tube which we could relax in and keep cool! There were also some kayaks available. Douglas Lake is a beautiful lake with rentals for jet skis and pontoon boats close by. The property is not very far from Gatlinburg which offers many things to do. Our crew, went to Anakeesta, Dollywood, white water rafting, Clingman’s dome in the Smokeys, ziplining, etc. I recommend making advance reservations (except Clingman’s dome)
With only 11 people, we did not have to use the two lofts. One has a bed, the other has hammocks, but can have foam bedding put up should you need the extra room. I recommend that whoever is in the loft on the 3rd floor, be between the age of 13 and 22? It is a straight-up climb or a tree climb.
Randy, the owner, is very personable and answers questions promptly. Since this is the last family reunion, I had a lot. He was very patient with me. If there is an issue, he would attend to it ASAP! Good thing he has a good sense of humor! This is his house, so treat it with respect!
One more thing about VRBO. You can be typing a question or a comment and maybe accidently press the wrong key and everything you wrote disappears. I wrote things in a word doc, and then I pasted it in. Have a great time!

Amazing vacation!
This was a large family vacation with my mom, 2 siblings and each with our extended families. The house and property are absolutely beautiful! The owner was friendly and helpful above and beyond what was required. Everting we needed was available in the house. One of the biggest perks, for us, were the pets who lived on the property (not in the house). They were so sweet and came to visit often. My son spent two afternoons playing with Lilly at the lake, both racing to retrieve a stick from the water. We made some amazing memories we’ll never forget!

We had the absolute best time at this house!!! So many personal touches! We loved the lake. Kayaks, dock, everything! We also loved Shine and his amazing fetching, Chloe, and Lilly (the dogs on property) they were the best! I’d highly recommend this house for a peaceful and relaxing getaway!

Summer Getaway
Randy the owner is wonderful! He is very personable and responded quickly when we were having issues with the refrigerator. He greeted us on arrival and showed us around the house. A quiet location and no neighbors except the one family who rented a smaller cabin on the 40 acre property. Wildlife and lake view! Plus the friendliest dogs you ever want to meet. Would go back in a second!

Perfect Lake Getaway
As advertised-a secluded, private estate and a very gracious host. A showcase cabin which is very comfortable and accommodating. The back porch and outdoor living area was our favorite, especially in the early morning. Plenty of room to gather but also offers privacy with so many rooms.

Beautiful lake house escape
This house is absolutely stunning. The property is serene and peaceful. Randy was extremely accommodating. My family and sister’s family (13 people) had plenty of room to spread out and recover from a full day of water activities. Randy was able to answer any questions that we had. All of our kids loved Randy’s dog. We were greeted every morning as we walked down to the boat dock. This was our first visit to Douglas Lake, but not our last.

A family favorite!!!
We came with our whole family that includes three generations. We absolutely loved our stay here!!! The owners were great to work with and offered many great suggestions of places to go during our visit. The location is beautiful with a real country Tennessee feel but close enough to the bigger “tourist” cities. Our grandchildren loved their dogs and being able to go out and catch frogs in the backyard. The lake water is so warm and makes it enjoyable to swim in. We all wanted to stay longer!!! 11/10 recommend.

AMAZING
My husband and I bring our 6 grandkids with us to Tennessee each summer and usually end up on Douglas lake. This year we were lucky enough to find the Giles Ranch to stay in. It's very family oriented from ropes, swing and hammocks in the house to the extra large dining table to sit around and tell ours stories of the day. There is a pontoon boat available to rent to enjoy the lake and kayaks to get a workout. The owner Randy is a joy to work with. Our grandkids fished, swam and jet skied all day long when they weren't playing fetch with Lilly, Chloe and Shine (owner's dogs). We had a blast and hope we can do this next summer. Thank you.

Our accommodations in both log homes on Douglas Lake made our Family Celebration memorable. The host was great, making our stay comfortable. Our best VRBO stay ever
When we were planning this trip, we were deciding between this property and another and I reached out to the property owner with some questions. Randy is a GEM! He spent a lot of time talking me through the property and logistics so we could plan where each family would fit best and how to get our boat to the dock. The house set up is perfect for a large family or a group of families, like we had. There aren’t enough photos of the bedrooms on the listing but the rooms are so cool!! Rope swings, regular swings, a tree house style loft, hammocks, bunk beds, the worlds nicest toilet lol. Top of the line kitchen appliances, everything you need to cook, the craftsmanship of the home is clearly skillful and the view! It’s on a peninsula in the lake and it’s so private- mountain and lake views, jet ski rental and boat rental on the next peninsula over- We rarely had boaters go by. The kids (age 2-8) swam right off the dock and it was private with no wake. On the tip of the property it’s a zero entry beach type access to the lake, which was perfect for all of the kids to play, adults to launch kayaks, and fetch with the property dogs. Honestly, the dogs were one of the best amenities. I LOVE these dogs. They fetch in the water and the kids LOVED that. Endless things to keep the kids busy. Randy and Allison were so accommodating and helpful- so much so that they feel like friends. We will 100% be back. We’ve shared this listing with all of our coworkers and friends and on Facebook because it was a trip to remember. It was so much more relaxing than going to a beach and I never thought I’d say that! If you’re thinking about renting this property- DO IT.
