About this house rental
We want to give you a preview of our beach house located just north of Duck, North Carolina. We're excited that you're thinking about renting the place, and we hope you'll have a great visit to the Outer Banks!
Our cute little place is soundfront. There's a bench swing in the tree behind the house where you can swing by the water's edge, and there is a set of stairs that lead from the back yard down into the water. The beach is a short walk away on the other side of the island - it's a 5 minute walk. There's a wide, paved bike path that passes in front of our place and leads into the little town of Duck, about two miles away.
The house has three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Upstairs, there are two bedrooms connected by a jack-and-jill bathroom. One of the bedrooms has two twin beds, and the other bedroom has a queen size bed and a sitting area with a television and dvd player. There is also a balcony that is only accessible from the large upstairs bedroom. There is also a master bedroom on the main level.
On the main level, there is a great room. There is a dining table that seats six, and there is an island with seating for two between the kitchen and the dining area. In the living area, there is a love seat, a couch, and a chair in addition to a television and dvd player. There is also a non-working fireplace for ambiance in cooler months. There is also a master bedroom and bathroom on the main level.
There are three sliding glass doors that lead out from the great room onto the deck that wraps around two sides of the house. The deck faces the Currituck Sound, so you can see the sun set over the water each evening. There is also an additional extension to the deck that holds a hot tub.
A door leads from the kitchen out to a screened in porch where you can enjoy outdoor dining, and the porch exits to the deck. Under the house, there is a laundry room and an enclosed outdoor shower. There is also space to park under the house if you want.
The kitchen is fully stocked with nearly any dish or cooking equipment you might need. We leave some things in the refrigerator and freezer empty, such as condiments. You'll find that there is a cabinet with some oil and spices, and there may be another shelf with pantry items that we leave at the house. You are welcome to use anything you find in the refrigerator or cabinets; we'll just ask that you replace anything that you use up. This is atypical with beach house rentals, but this way you don't have to remember to bring your own salt shaker, and we don't have to clean out every speck of evidence that we spend time here, too.
We also have an extra closet with a lock on in the master bedroom on the main floor where we our clothes and toys for our visits. Nothing interesting really, just our personal stuff. We have several board games and puzzles that are available for you to use, and you're welcome to use any of the beach toys and chairs in the storage room. There are two kayaks and a surfboard on the rack under the deck; you are welcome to use those. Please don't attempt to use the sailboats unless you are an experienced sailor and have checked with us ahead of time about using them.
One of the best things about the location of our house is experiencing sunset over the Currituck Sound! We hope you have a great vacation!

Everything was pretty nice, we loved the location, & the layout of the house was good. The wi-fi password was incorrect in the info provided by the host- therefore we could not watch tv or use anything requiring wi-fi which was NOT what we came expecting. The host COMPLETELY ignored us AND VRBO when we contacted the host directly & VRBO could not get the host to respond either.
The microwave also isn’t working either.
I don’t appreciate having to make videos to prove things aren’t working that should be-while I’m on vacation. VRBO isn’t for me-there’s too much lack of accountability when something goes wrong. No refund- if the host & info is incorrect, they’ve got your $$ & no one really cares!
Still a nice place-I suspect the internet got cut off by the provider & that’s why they refused to communicate with us or VRBO-
but it’s a nice place you just better be prepared the wi-fi & microwave might not really work.

The house was in an amazing location and had most everything we needed during our stay. The area is beautiful with lots to see and do!

This property has the best decks for “sound” lovers like us. It suited our needs. The only issue we had was no internet and so that meant no tv.
2.0 / 10.0
Pictures are not accurate for the house. You cannot see the water unless you’re standing in one particular corner of the deck only and house was filthy. Spiders and ants were constant. We were always having to put food away and clean countertops. House was not dusted windows were filthy and on top of that customers are asked to vacuum the house before they leave so obviously no one’s cleaning it. Could not enjoy eating outside on the deck, because the road noise was awful-no restful sleep the entire time we stayed because of the road noise. Pay very close attention to reviews.

Great house, great soundfront location and easy walk to the beach.
8.0 / 10.0
The property is a great location. On the sound for fishing, crabbing, kayaking etc., short walk to the beach as advertised. Short drive to cute little town of Duck. The bedrooms would benefit from some kind of black out shades. Can see headlights from the street traffic throughout the night and the sun shines through first thing in the morning. Would also benefit from fans to decrease the noise of the street, some ceiling fans in the home are cause more squeaking old noise then being beneficial to use. Would also be beneficial for all if the house was cleaner. The air ducts are full of dust which decreases the air flow throughout the house decreasing the efficiency of the central air. Utensil tray was very dirty…had to wash all utensils and leave on the side during the stay. With some low cost upgrades and cleaning this place would be wonderful. Being charged a cleaning fee is fine with me if the place is clean and I’m not asked to vacuum at the end of my stay.

We had a great time in Duck. The house is in the perfect location for sound and beach access. We loved the bike path and the kayaks are a nice touch!

This house has great potential, but the upkeep and cleanliness are bad. Since the newer reviews did not mention uncleanliness I thought perhaps, the owners had taken the advice of previous reviews and deep cleaned their property. I was wrong! The decks are dirty and the screened in porch where the grill is, is so bad it’s unusable! Cobwebs, dust, spiders in almost every corner. Ceiling fans black with dust. Walls, lamps, chair rails covered in dust. Windows dirty. Porches covered in cobwebs, spiders and tree debris. Had to clean the deck chairs and a corner of the deck before we could even sit down. No linens at all in the house so I had to clean with the paper towels I brought. Washer and dryer are not in the house but underneath in a small storage area which is covered in cobwebs. Had to wear a baseball cap in there to keep the cobwebs out of my hair. Nothing about the checkout procedure here on the VRBO app, but when you get to the house and look at their book, they ask you to vacuum the house before you leave. Really?? After I had to practically clean it before I could even start vacation. Beware folks, the owners are not paying attention to the reviews. Way too expensive! The cleanliness of the property overshadowed anything good here. If the property owners decide to deep clean please post a response here so other folks will know you’ve cleaned up. It’s really such a shame.

Many things to recommend this rental -- location on sound and near beach, well-maintained hot tub, deck, general coziness. Although many other houses are gargantuan, this one is perfect for our small family. Have appreciated the opportunity to use the Sunfish sailboat (with permission!).

Thank you for a great week!! We had a wonderful time. The views are beautiful any time of the day and we loved the the house. I definitely recommend staying here. We look forward to visiting again.

The property had everything we needed: great location, beautiful sunsets over the sound, short bike ride to the beach (they offer one bike), pet friendly, and an amazing hot tub! The house was comfortable and well lived in.
I felt the communication with the owner was slow, although eventually all questions and requests were answered.
The house needs some deep cleaning inside and out. A few updates would go a long way to improve the feel of the house because it does have a great layout. Relaxing and watching TV was complicated and reception was spotty.
Overall, it was a good experience and we appreciate the hospitality.

Fabulous deck, hot tub, pier and views. Limited entertainment options, insects a problem, advertised nightly rate is not close to the actual nightly cost.

We loved being right on the sound and use of the kayaks and fishing off the pier was a great bonus. Many people have mentioned road noise being an issue, but honestly we didn't notice it that much. The deck areas are nice and updated and that is where we spent the majority of our time. We enjoyed our stay!

Great place on sound between Duck and Corolla
Beautiful sunsets on sound, short walk to beach. Enjoyed evenings in the hot tub, kayaking, crabbing, and all with our pup right with us.

The incredible view (especially sunsets) and the direct sound-front access make this house a real standout. We had a very nice week.

Second Stay
Second time back for me and my husband and loved it just as much as the first. Brought my mother, sister, brother in law and nephew and they all loved it too! The private dock with the kayaks and short walk to the beach make this the perfect location. The town of Duck is the perfect vacation spot!

Convenient and great sound views
This home was convenient to everything and we got to experience the amazing sunsets that were mentioned previously. We definitely appreciated it being pet friendly and the gates on the deck were so wonderful to have. The hot tub was nice too. We used white noise machines to help with the road noise but if you have light sleepers, then you may not be satisfied with this house. Lights from passing cars do also shine in during darkness, so additional window coverings will be needed if that will bother your sleep.

2nd Stay Even Better than 1st
This is our second spring trip to this property and we enjoyed it even more. The location is perfect for our family -- quick walk to the beach, lots of places to relax privately with wonderful views of the sound, and easy access to the water. We like that the house is on the smaller side so it feels cozy for us. The new hot tub is very comfortable and has some great jet combos. The owners were generous enough to allow one of us to use the sailboat and a wonderful time was had. The only drawback on this rental is the road noise, but we find it fades to the background.

nice place. would likely be more fun in warmer weather so we could do more in the sound and use some of the water items that the house provides, but can't control that. Access to the pier is nice.
The road noise has been noted before in the reviews. The air circulation units help damp that at night, but the road is in constant use day and night. The car headlights are also a major issue across the night since there is traffic 24/7. Black out curtains would be a significant help in all bedrooms.
Cleanliness lost a star due to the dog hairs on the sofa that showed up on my wife's black pants.

Great location, but needs a deep cleaning inside and out
The house is in a perfect location and Duck, NC was a great little sound-side town. The house is right on the water and has great decks. We enjoyed our vacation, but was disappointed in the cleanliness of the house. You can tell the owners are making improvements to the home, but the over all cleanliness of the home was lacking. Cob webs everywhere, smashed bug remains on the wall, and everything needed cleaning. Curtains, rugs, lamp shades, and walls. I cleaned the first hour I was there, The house had a screened in porch, but it was so dirty and filled with spiders you didn’t want to use it. The same issue with all the outdoor furniture, but we had no rags to clean them. There were absolutely zero linens in the home and it should have been in large print in the description, because most VRBO homes have them and visitors expect linens to be provided. There were no dish towels, bath towels, bath mats, hand towels, or sheets. Its a great house that just needs a lot of cleaning.

Perfect getaway
New hot tub, incredible sunsets, private dock, kayaking, peaceful beach, quaint shops, cozy fireplace, Netflix movies, open floor plan, gated deck so the pups could enjoy the fresh air and sunsets with us. We ate at Aqua Restaurant Every. Single. Day. Fine dining with a view and their menu is amazing. Wouldn’t have changed a thing about our stay. We loved this home and will definitely be back. Owner was super friendly and answered all of my questions. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

Beautiful sound-front property, but…
Looked like property-maintenance had not been for a while; lawn needed to be mowed, leaves blown and stairs swept (full of branches, leaves and cob webs.)
Spiders inside and smudges/smears on the walls/windows.
But beautiful views, hot tub sunsets and a personal dock/pier to fish!

Relaxing Spring Break Getaway
We had a very nice and relaxing stay. Watching the sunset from the hot tub was amazing, the view from the deck can’t be beat! The hot tub worked fine for us, it just took about two hours to heat up the first day since it’s left at a lower temp when not being used. While the kitchen and bathrooms were spotless, the rest of the house could use some cleaning. We all got very congested at night, likely due to dust in the vents. Overall we had a very nice stay!

An early Spring Break
We were desperate for a break from world and national events and this place provided the perfect remedy. Late March is not the time to head to Duck if you are planning to spend your days lounging on the beach soaking up the sun. The beach is an easy 10 minute walk (quicker if you don't have a dog that needs to smell every blade of grass he passes). Max really enjoyed his daily beach time off leash! The house suited us perfectly, very casual and comfortable. Although the hot tub was not working during our stay, the gas fireplace (no durolog necessary) was a delightful surprise! Being retired we are able to avoid places during the high season so I can't really speak to a lot of traffic noise. I think it is more noticeable when you first arrive, but it soon fades into the background and is replaced by the beautiful views of the sound. The well supplied kitchen was very helpful and made provisioning much easier. Loved the location and access to Duck and Corolla. We had a great Wild Horse Adventure tour and it was a treat touring the 4 wheel drive beach. A huge plus for us was the fully enclosed deck that allowed the dog to wander safely. We had a great time and I would not hesitate to return.

Off season OBX
Drove from Michigan to the OBX in March, as was daughter’s college Spring Break. Enjoyed time with family, but going to OBX during off season had drawbacks with many restaurants not being opened or very abbreviated hours.

Soundside, close to road. Fully staffed kitchen. Happy to use the kayaks. Hot tub wasn't working.

Great Place BUT Bring Your Own Linen
First off, let me say that we really enjoyed our stay. The house was clean and fit all of our needs. The road noise, mentioned by others, was almost non-existent thanks to the white noise generators. We really liked the location since it was a short drive to Corolla as well as Kitty Hawk and the main areas on Hwy 158. The hot tub was fantastic in the frigid upper 20s temperatures! Since it was so cold and because of the 6 inches of snow we received we did not get to enjoy the pier but in warmer weather, I'm sure it would be a wonderful place to hang out. The ONLY issue, and it would have been a non-issue had we known in advance, was that towels and bedsheets are not provided. Out of 20+ stays at VRBO's and, the other company I can't mention in this review, we had never encountered this. There were a few towels but we didn't realize we needed sheets until we got ready to go to bed the first night. The next day we drove to Belk's, a short 15-minute drive, and bought some sheets and towels. Problem solved. Communication was quick. We would definitely stay at this location again.

Relaxing at the water!!
Returning to a Beautiful place. The water is everywhere! Love the trees, the pier, the hot tub. New deck makes it easier to use hot tub! Only one small thing caused us difficulty. There was mold in vents in north side of house which caused breathing difficulty during sleep. The ability to open house helped. We love the location which is so close to wonderful restaurants, we ate well. We hope to return in the future!!

Outer Banks Late September
Recently retired educator who always wanted to travel in the fall/spring. This was just what we hoped for. A quiet week with perfect weather. We spent every evening on the deck. Watching the sunset over the sound. In the hot tub under the stars. The house was great. Great location with easy access to Corolla and Kitty Hawk.

Loved our 2nd stay at this lovely home. The bay view and sunsets are unbelievable, the house has everything we need and we enjoyed the new deck and updated fixtures in the baths. We took advantage of the kayaks and crab pots (caught 3 but lost them before getting them in a pot), and enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub. The only reason for 4 stars for neighborhood was the street noise which was expected. The owners now have air cleaners in the bedrooms which add white noise. I definitely slept much better this stay. Hope to come back for a 3rd visit!

Can't beat the view
Nice house, right on the sound that offers a beautiful sunset view. The house is close to the beach (about a .3 mile walk) and offers plenty of toys -- from kayaks to bikes, etc. The hot tub offered a relaxing place to hang out at night. The location is on a busy road and at night the lights from traffic come streaming in the master bedroom. It's very annoying and could be easily fixed with black out shades or curtains. The house could use a deep cleaning inside and out. There were lots of spiders but not sure if its just because of the time of year or not.

We had a very nice time. The view from the deck is beautiful.
When we pulled in to the property we could see that it wasn’t maintained in a while. The grass was up to our knees and the deck wasn’t clean. We found a power washer and started cleaning. The inside was ok, but wasn’t as clean as we would have liked. Overall, the location was great! We had a nice time.
