About this house rental
When was the last time you were able to sit in a spa in front of an outdoor fireplace and gaze at the stars in the Milky Way? Located approximately 3 miles from downtown Sonora, Ca. (Queen of the Southern Gold Mines) the property on 3 private acres consists of a 3bd room, 2 bath 2,400 sq. ft. house with a swimming pool, spa with fireplace and a separate fire pit for outside enjoyment day or night. The house can accommodate up to eight guests and includes a family room, open living, kitchen and dining room with spacious outdoor porches with views of the surrounding property. The master bedroom contains a California King bed, second bedroom has one Queen bed and the third bedroom has a Queen and two Double beds. Washer and dryer in laundry area adjacent to kitchen. Pathways leading to multiple established gardens surround the house. Wifi provided.. Multiple dining locations within 15 min drive. Nearby attractions include Yosemite Park (90 min), Columbia Historic Gold State Park (20 min), Railtown Historic State Park (20 min), Pinecrest Lake (40 min), Dodge Ridge Ski Resort (45 min), Murphy’s Wineries (35 min), Natural Bridges, Moaning Caverns and Zipline (25 min), Black Oak Casino (15 min.), Kenney Meadows (60 min), Melones Lake, Don Pedro Lake, and Tulloch Lake all within 30 min. drive. Owner lives in cottage adjacent to main house and is available to assist guests during their stay. This is a very quiet and tranquil property that can accommodate retreats while at the same time is a great location for a family vacation. Rates adjusted for fewer than 5 guests (2 – 4 people).

Our stay at *Pearl in the California Mother Lode* in Sonora, was an unforgettable experience. The property exceeded our expectations and was exactly as described in the listing. The home is fully furnished with everything you could possibly need – I packed way too much! From linens and toiletries to kitchen appliances, serving utensils, and platters, this home truly had it all.
The location was perfect, secluded and peaceful, with visits from wild turkeys and the delightful sounds of frogs in the evening. The swimming pool and hot tub were amazing, and we spent most of our time lounging by the pool, playing board games, and enjoying the thoughtfully arranged seating areas around the property.
Despite the secluded feel, the property is still conveniently close to stores, restaurants, sightseeing spots, and lakes, offering the best of both worlds. The owner, Barry, was a wonderful host – incredibly helpful and genuinely invested in making sure we had the best stay possible. We also had the pleasure of meeting his adorable Cat, Dog, who added to the charm of the experience.
Our family takes an annual getaway every Labor Day weekend, and we will definitely be returning to *Pearl and the California Mother Lode* for future stays. Thank you, Barry, for sharing your beautiful property with us. Until next time, we wish you all the best!

We had a very nice stay at Barry's place. It was very clean and we had everything that we needed. We enjoyed staying in his property and looking forward to revisit another time.

Barry met us when we arrived to show us around. The house is was well equipped to handle our family of 5 adults and 3 children. Kitchen is very large and well stocked. Beds were all comfortable. We loved all the upgrades to the home. There are wood burning stoves or fire pits inside and out and an outside rock fireplace by the spa. This is a very special home with to much to write in this review. Highly recommend this home for rent as a retreat or family time. Absolutely lovely.

We love this place and have stayed here 4 times now. The house is clean, well-lit and comfortable, and is located on a spacious and lovely property. The kids love the private pool and hot tub! Though the house is very private, it is also conveniently located close to nearby towns, including Sonora and Columbia. Barry is the perfect host!

Our daughter and her family live 15 minutes away from this casual resort property, and last year we decided to do something different by staying in a new place for a three-day. Hotels are fine, but we wanted something special and memorable - and we found it.
We looked forward all year to repeating the experience and this time we had even more fun. Everything about The Gem suits us perfectly. It's spacious and tasteful without pretension. Everything is spotlessly clean and well-appointed. The swimming pool and spa were the highlightt for our 4 & 7 year old granddaughters. Making meals together in the spacious kitchen and then sharing those meals at the dining table came a close second.
For us,a big bonus was the proximity to my daughter and son-in-law's home. We could spend all day together, yet they could go home to sleep in their own beds. The perfect combination. But anyone looking for room to host a larger group will be pleased with the accomodations.
We hope to repeat this experience many times.

Our family had a terrific stay over the 4th of July. The property was terrific, Barry was extremely responsive and the neighboring town of Columbia has a great 4th parade/celebration.

The home and property are just as advertised and perfect for a large group gathering, from a spacious interior that offers smaller intimate areas to mingle in, and then an exterior to roam, settle, appreciate and just enjoy alone or together.

This property is amazing and an idyllic retreat in the heart of the Sonora foothills. It truly is a Pearl hidden among the rocks and an oasis of water and wonder.
With 3 couples and some day guests, the property was spacious and accommodating. The various gardens and lounging stations, the bedrooms and linens, and the well equipped kitchen were very thoughtful and nice.

We just returned to this property for the third time. We are a family of four with a 10 and 14 year old. The property is wonderful - nothing to complain about, and if there was, we know that Barry (who is great) would quickly take care of it. The hot tub is probably the best we’ve ever enjoyed, anywhere. We look forward to coming back!

Barry's house is absolutely gorgeous. We can't wait to come back in the summer to enjoy the pool! The pool is not gated but Barry did a great job warning us about that.

This home is fantastic and has so much to enjoy that you don’t even have to leave the house. Very relaxing and inviting home. Barry the owner was very nice and enjoyable to talk to. Would recommend to anyone. You will not be disappointed.

This place is wonderful. Quiet, private. The house is large and comfortable, the kitchen has every appliance you might need plus staples if you’ve forgotten anything. The beds, couches, chairs are comfortable and there are multiple sitting areas inside and out. The pool and hot tub are fantastic, so much fun and so refreshing. We could hardly stand to leave for any amount of time. Barry, the owner, is gracious and welcoming and full of information. He was there if we needed him but very inconspicuous. We loved this place and hope to return sometime.

I was amazed at the rock work which Barry himself has created. I only wished I had more time to talk with him. Amazing human being. One of my favorite authors books being in the guest room, made it feel homey.
The property was clean and bright. The kitchen was great for the entire family to be in there cooking, eating, and gathering in comfortably.
The pool is magical as is the hot tub. The weather was over 100 degrees during our stay and the pool was where we spent a majority of our time.
Absolutely everything you could need as far as shopping with a seven minute drive.
Our stay was exceptional and I look forward to another stay with Barry and his beautiful wife.

From the moment we walked in until the moment we left, we felt at home and cared for. The kitchen was stocked with every conceivable appliance and utensils, the furniture was excellent, with many intimate area set up for small groups. Barry, the owner, was very responsive and always looking to improve our stay. We could not be happier with this overall experience.

This was our third time staying here! The lovely home, pool and yard make for a wonderful relaxing getaway and our kids can’t get enough of swimming and jumping off the bridge over the pool. Brand new A/C had no trouble keeping us cool in the hot weather. Barry is the perfect host! Can’t wait to return again soon.

Peaceful and relaxing haven
Thank you Barry, we had a most wonderful stay at your vacation rental home. We loved the pool, and swam every day. It was great to cool off morning, afternoon, and evening. We found everything we needed in the house. The ponds with fishies an frogs were added pleasures. We had a grand time adventuring to old towns of Twain Harte and Columbia, and also visiting many park areas on the scenic drive up to Sonora Pass.

Convenient and private but near essential services!
We rented this home for a family reunion, which included people from three generations. The area is beautiful and the neighborhood (Lambert Lake Estates) is off the beaten path but 2-5 minutes from any service you would ever need. Neighbors are far away enough you’d hardly know they’re there.
The property was perfect for our purposes. Pool and spa were clean and enjoyed by all. Our group went to Columbia State Park (10 minutes), Pinecrest Lake (40 minutes/rented a party boat) and Yosemite (1 hr.+). Very convenient!
We plan to return next year for our annual reunion. Host was accommodating and friendly. Beds were comfortable and house was clean and had everything we needed. No complaints.

An Amazing Vacation
Probably the best experience we have had renting a home. The home was better than pictured. It is beautiful inside and out. My kids spent lots of time enjoying the amazing pool. The house was extremely clean and well cared for. We love to cook and the kitchen was well stocked and had everything we needed. The best part was that Barry was the nicest host who made sure we all had a great vacation. He even asked my 9 year old son if there was anything he could do to make our stay better. My son of course said no because everything was great. We have rented many homes and have high standards. I can honestly recommend this home to anyone based on our great experience.

Perfect place to relax, rejuvenate and rewind!
This is our second time staying at this wonderful property. We loved the pool and spa and the amazing grounds. The house is clean, comfortable and very well stocked! Barry is such a gracious host, and we so appreciate his generosity as he brought us fresh strawberries from the farmer's market. We fell in love with the resident cats! We LOVE this place and will add this to our annual family vacation plans.

Excellent get-away with my family
The hot tub was my favorite. We went swimming in the pool even though it was a bit chilly. We relaxed with cooking on the bbq and enjoyed the time together.

Beautiful grounds
We had an amazing girls weekend. Barry was a great host, and helped us out a few times with a couple things which was so appreciated. The grounds are beautiful and the pool was amazing, the house is very clean and of all the vrbo’s I’ve stayed in, I’ve never stayed in one that is so stocked, and had every appliance you can imagine, it was fantastic! Can’t wait to come back again and stay longer!

We loved everything but will not book anything with the owner on the property. Made everyone on edge and uncomfortable at times. They are basically your roommates that continue to live there as if your not around.

Wonderful Home & Grounds - Perfect Location for a Weeklong Vacation
Barry's place was absolutely wonderful; we don't have any negative things to say about it. He takes really good care of the home and property; he's had it for a long time and has really made it into a lovely spot with many personal touches. The home is very roomy and was perfect for our family of 3 adults and 2 kids (aged 9 & 11). The kitchen is huge and well-stocked. I've rented many homes through Vrbo & its competitors and I've never seen a pantry & kitchen as well-stocked as this one. It's always nice to not have to pack every single ingredient when you're planning meals. The beds were very comfortable- which is always a huge plus. There are many cozy chairs and sofas and places to curl up with a book or relax with a beverage in the home. The sun-room with plants was a favorite.
We were drove up to Dodge Ridge twice during our visit to ski, and coming back to the outdoor hot tub was a really nice treat. Barry was very easy to communicate with and even turned on the hot tub for us when we asked so it would be hot when we got back. We really really appreciated it. Even though it was really cold out and we didn't get to enjoy the pool in the typical sense, we enjoyed using it as a cold plunge between soaks in the hot tub.
We got a mix of spring and snow while we were there which was a really fun experience. Me and the kids loved exploring the property and looking at the ponds, enjoying all of the trees and birds, and even the two sweet cats that live on the property, Zephyr and Dog :-)
The kids are still asking when we get to go back. If we do decide to go back to that area, we will certainly stay again. Highly recommend. Thanks, Barry!

Wonderful!
The previous reviews are spot on - this is a lovely property with an exceptional host. The house is spacious, private, with every amenity you can think of and if something is missing, just ask the host. We stayed for a family ski weekend at Dodge Ridge (40min away) and it was the perfect place to come back to after a day of skiing. Beautiful views looking out the house and so peaceful to look at the sky from the hot tub after sunset. We can’t wait to return!

Great Christmas Holiday at Sonoma
We read great reviews about this property and we were definitely not disappointed. The house is great. Very well maintained and fully equipped. When we arrived it had just snowed so the kids had a great time playing outside the house. Barry is a fantastic host and made the stay very pleasant. He brought us some drinks on New Years Eve which were highly appreciated. We were able to use the Jacuzzi at night surrounded by snow, which was a great experience. When booking the home we had some concerns about the host living in the house next door inside the property but it was absolutely no issue at all. We definitely recommend the property and most likely will come again.
