About this house rental
A Great Home in a Resort-Like Setting
This gorgeous 4-bedroom/3-bathroom, split-level home has a fabulous view of the Calaveras River and expansive oak-covered hills and is located in private, one-of-a-kind settings. It has a combination of hardwood floors (living room, dining, stairs, and landing and tile (lower stairs and entryway) and plush carpet (in the four bedrooms) for you to enjoy. Three discrete redwood balconies circle the top level of the home furnishing nearly a 360-degree view of the surrounding country.
The wrap-around deck about the swimming pool is also a good place to repose after a day’s activity and drink in the rustic grandeur that abounds the home: the mountains, a plethora of birds (including a flock of wild turkeys), deer, and other animals, and the lap of green and a carpet of flowers along the foothills (during the winter and spring seasons, golden grass during the summer), the drooping mature oaks, the free form in-ground Geremia pool, the 20-by-20-foot covered gazebo and fenced garden with sprinklers and drip irrigation.
The sound of the river is hypnotic, lulling you to readily fall asleep on the deck or in the gazebo for an afternoon siesta. The gazebo, furnished in a living room style with a comfortable sofa and chairs, cushioned stools, and coffee table is equipped with a refrigerator, a large table, and several extra chairs that can be used for more sitting.
It is located 115 miles North-East of San Francisco Bay Area, about the same distance from Lake Tahoe, 75 miles from Sacramento, and 25 miles from Stockton.
Besides the local beauty one can enjoy, there is a lot to see and do in the greater Calaveras County. These range from the historic and picturesque gold rush towns to the great foothill vineyards and taste rooms, microbreweries, and pubs to the eclectic art galleries, antique shops, and gold rush museums and the Heavenly Valley snow ski resort which is about 1 hour away.
Then there are the natural wonders: the hundreds of limestone and crystalline-filled caves and caverns–-many that you can explore on your own but there are also public ones (cave city, mercer and moaning caverns being examples), the abundance of lakes and reservoirs (some of which are listed below), Big Tree and Stanislaus Natural Forests and ski resorts (such as Bear Valley which is about an hour away). You can enjoy different activities in all seasons–-winter and summer sports, hike and bike, go gold-panning or horseback riding, fishing and boating as well as enjoy a round of golf on professional courses laid out along canyon ridges in the pines or among 200-year-old oaks in rolling hills.
* WIFI - Because of the remoteness of the home from the main
wIFI hub, we use a Verizon hotspot - good enough to browse the Internet and check email.
Lakes, water views, and fun: Calaveras County in general, and the Central Sierra Foothills, in particular, are blessed with a great number of beautiful lakes and reservoirs. Examples:
HOGAN RESERVOIR--A 7-minute drive from the house; LAKE CAMANCHE--a 15-minute drive from the house is located on the western side of the Sierra-Nevada foothills; LAKE MELONES--A 45-minute drive from the house; and LAKE TULLOCH-–Located south-east of Valley Springs, at a distance of about 20 miles from the house

There is a wonderful view of the river with the relaxing sound of the water.

The pool was great. Hanging outside when it was not over 90 degrees was great. I loved hearing the river.
Kids did not want to get out of the pool.

This property is truly one of a kind. The house is large and easily accommodates multiple families. It is an older home, so don't expect a ton of bells and whistles. But it is clean and large. The property is absolutely stunning! The view in the back of the home over the river valley looks like a computer background and the pool area was THE highlight of our trip. The property manager, Maria, is great to work with and very available throughout the process. Overall, a 5-star property, and we will be back!

We enjoyed the setting so much! It was a relaxing and beautiful place. Loved hearing the creek from the house. excellent communication from host. Comfy beds.

The house was nice and pretty much isolated. Pool was nice too but unfortunately it did rain on one of the days we were here. This place would be perfect for the summer especially with it having a pool. Outdoor deck is a nice area to relax
and enjoy the scenery. Even had deers walk by the back while we were bbqing. Just a few mosquitoes, other than that we enjoyed out stay.

I booked this home for my husbands birthday weekend. He wanted to go fishing so I was looking for something close to the lake and accessible to water. Maria and Jp were very responsive and accommodating through my whole experience. I had many questions before I booked and they were very quick to answer back. The home was very clean, and had plenty of space for my group of 8. The house was also stocked with plenty of dishes and condiments I needed for the weekend. The view from the house is absolutely breath taking as well and made the home feel very cozy and welcoming. Even though Maria suggested the lake close by for fishing my husband was able to do most of his fishing down at the river, all 4 men caught many trout! The hike down to the river is not for the faint but it is very manageable.
I really don’t have any cons to say about the house. At one point the wifi did stop working but we were having such a good time we didn’t even notice. It didn’t effect anyone and I didn’t reach out to Maria and Jp to ask to fix the problem. If I absolutely had to say this awesome house was missing something the only thing I could say would be a hot tub. Other then that everything was perfect!
We had the best weekend in this beautiful house and we absolutely can’t wait to go back!

The place was great. It surprised us with the view and location. The only challenge was that pool was cold even though it was sunny. I wish they had a headted pool or I would not recommend the place if you are going for the pool. We had barbeque and some amazing time with friends / family - its a nice get away not too far from the bay and the location is nice. We all enjoyed the stay and would recommend the place.

We just returned from a fabulous weekend getaway with friends at this great home. It really does have a stunning view, and the whole outdoor area is spacious, relaxing and comfortable. Sitting by the pool and listening to the river run by down below made it feel like a resort setting. Inside, the four bedrooms were comfortable and spacious. The kitchen isn't large but it had plenty of space to cook large meals, and we used the grill as well. We loved having the big table outside for dinners and the covered lounge area.
Note that we were visiting in the fall when the weather was nice. Hot, but not too hot, so it was perfect for enjoying the outside.

Nice views by the pool.
Very nice location, pool/patio was nice small refrigerator out by the pool was great for snacks and drinks in 90+ weather. You cannot beat the view and sound of the river 5 stars for that. My only complaints was most of the window coverings were not functional and you could not close them. Some were also broken. There is no lock on the master bedroom door. Other great stuff is kitchen has everything you needed. Refrigerator has an ice maker which was nice. We prepared most of our food at the home and used the grill by the pool for dinners. We also loved the large table by the pool and grill to eat our dinners. Wi-Fi is not that great just for emails, and we could not watch much tv which was fine. My husband had a Teams meeting and he was able to connect using our personal hotspot. FYI there are a lot of stairs to get to the pool I think about 20, and there are 3 levels in the home. This is not a problem for most but for frail elderly or wheelchair bound this would not be a good place. There are 4 bedrooms all nice 3 on 3rd level upstairs and 1 downstairs 1st level, which my old teen enjoyed. The host were great to communicate with.

Family Fun
This was the perfect size for our family of ten. My husband and I stayed at our home next door, and our children and their spouses stayed at the VRBO. The living room was big enough for all of us to be able to sit and talk. There were two tables, which fit all ten of us inside, and there were tables outside, which also accommodated ten. There were plenty of plates, silverware, pans, cooking utensils, glasses and knives. The outside area was spacious and offered shade, if needed. The pool was large enough for everyone, and pool toys and beach towels were provided. The view was gorgeous, and plenty of lounge chairs offered a chance to enjoy it.
We shalll definitely return!

Valley Springs
As there are few properties in the area, this one is the best. The back yard pool and cabana are very family friendly with a magnificent view if the Calaveras river. The house is a bit dated inside with an older kitchen, but newer appliances. Plenty of room, but a lot of stairs. Bring your exercise shoes!. Bedrooms and beds were comfortable and roomy. All in all a great family retreat.

Good choice for adult groups
When we arrived there was no Wi-Fi enabled; hosts were responsive and the Wi-Fi was turned on within 24 hours of our arrival. The house is nicely decorated with several fragile glass pieces. Outdoor spaces are very welcoming and views are amazing.

Excellent Family Enviroment
We were in town for our daughters wedding. We had plenty of room to host the bridal shower the day of the wedding. Very nice and relaxing setting just like the pictures showed. I would recommend this property for a nice relaxing weekend with a pool.

Perfect Getaway!
We really enjoyed having a cup of coffee out on the deck in the mornings, listening to the sound of the river and the wildlife around us. We attended a family wedding in the area, and this house was PERFECT for us - plenty of space for my husband and I, my sister, my 3 nieces (one was the bride), and one other couple. Luckily there were also 3 bathrooms so the ladies could all get ready at the same time... :-) We would definitely stay here again, Maria and JP were fantastic hosts!

Good property for 5 friends
Property manager had mixed up the date of arrival and the house wasn’t ready when we arrived. Took a couple of hours to clean while we waited by the pool. The living room furniture wasn’t conducive to watching TV comfortably but we didn’t really want to watch much TV. The pool area was very nice. Some of the kitchen cookery/dishes weren’t very clean and we ended up washing most things before use.
The owner was pleasant.

Great Valley Springs Experience
We had a wonderful time hanging out by the pool, bbqing, and relaxing at this wonderful house. The house was very clean and comfortable, and had everything we needed, especially for cooking and dining. The view from the backyard/pool area was beautiful, and we saw lots of local nature/animal life (at a safe distance) such as turkeys, quails, and deer. Thank you Maria and JP for a fantastic time!

Relaxing Mountain Getaway
Loved getting away to a relaxing pool in the mountains after being locked up with the pandemic for the past year. This was our family's first lengthy vacation away and we loved the fact that we are so close to the Bay Area but felt like we were in our own paradise staying here. You can hear the Calaveras River rushing below while swimming in their gorgeous pool. Thank you, we had an awesome trip!

River view
We stayed for 3 nights & we only left to eat out once. What a view of the river! The whole family spent the whole time in the pool & enjoying the view. If you bring enough food & drinks you won't need to leave at all. Even my daughter noticed how relaxing the sound of the river is. She wouldn't normally notice these things. Great house & overall great experience.

Family getaway
We rented this house solely for access to the pool. It was blazing hot during our visit -- 108-110 degrees -- so we spent most of our time in and out of the pool. The pool wasn't heated but that didn't matter when it was so hot out.
When we first arrived at the house, the AC wasn't working. Fortunately, the owner called a repairman and they were over to fix it within 30 minutes. If that didn't happen, we would have been miserable.
It was too hot to enjoy the surrounding area though we did visit the nearby caves one day and Calaveras Big Trees. Both were fantastic.
The house is fully stocked -- you won't need to bring extra towels, soap, or anything for the kitchen.

Pool with a view
The place was amazing. Very clean and spacious property. The listing would benefit from more pictures. Especially if the front exterior. It was a little difficult to be sure you arrived at the right property if it's night time even though the driveway is clearly marked with the address. A picture or two of the front exterior would help. Alsoore pics if the bedrooms would be nice too. The pool is definitely the selling point for this place. The pictures of the backyard do not do it justice. It's even more scenic in person. Overall a fantastic stay with no complaints. Great communication and cleanliness.

Couples Getaway
Last year 4 couples (in our 50’s) went to Europe together, all travel plans were cancelled this year due to the pandemic. We wanted a resort feel without the crowds, but big enough to accommodate us. This was perfect. We could all sit down together for great meals. This kitchen has everything!! You can hear the river streaming and the yard is so relaxing, great place to cook and swim. We were worried about the smoke from the fires and the pool water being warm from the heatwave, but the pool was nice and cold and the smoke mostly clouded the sun instead of our air. There are a lot of stairs, but not steep, I have a bad knee but was fine. One of the bedrooms has an air bed, I missed that in previous reviews. It wasn’t bad, but just be aware if that’s a problem for you. We made it work and everything else made up for it. Sutter Creek is an open County close by so we were able to go wine tasting! Such a great extended weekend. Can’t wait to go back!

Fun in the Pool
We had a great week in this house. We spend hours and hours swimming, playing and floating in the pool. We grilled outside most nights, but usually ate in because of pesky bees (that were only around when we were trying to eat dinner). Lots of great places to sit outside. We loved the view from the yard and the balconies. Hearing the river all the time just added to the ambiance! When we weren’t swimming in the backyard we went fishing and kayaking (with our own kayaks) on New Hogan Lake. We also went to Lake Alpine for the day which was lovely although crowded. We recommend going early. The kitchen had everything we needed. Overall, the house met all our needs.

Private and relaxing
Great place for a mini family getaway. Not too far from the Bay Area but feels like your in the middle of nowhere. Quiet and private. It was myself, wife, 3 teens, and 2 grandparents and the house was large enough to accomodate everyone comfortably with a bed. You could get away with 2 more people max before it starts to get cramped bedroom wise. Some might end up sleeping on the floor.
Overall, great place and will plan future stay,s.
Plus:
- Private pool
- Secluded
- Great view of the canyon with a view over looking the river.
-Weather was in the 90's and then cools down at night to high 60's.
- Large outdoo patio with gas grill.
- Market 15 min drive for last min items
- Fully equipped kitchen with pots, pan's, dishes, blender, etc.

It's all about the pool and view!!!
My first ever time doing VRBO and it went great! Rosa/JP were very responsive and have a lovely home. But I rented it for the pool and the view. Having a pool all to your yourself was AWESOME! My kids loved it! and the view of the valley and trees and the river was just awesome! And so quiet!!! Except for the lovely sound of the river down below! Most relaxing vacation I've had in a long time. 10 minutes from the little town of Valley Springs! Went to a different place to eat every night! Good food! Would stay there again!

Great get away for the family that needs to slow down
We had a great stay for the 2019 Thanksgiving holiday. We had a lot of questions before we arrived about how the kitchen was stocked since we'd be cooking in unfamiliar territory. It was just a quick matter of a note to the very helpful owners to get answers. Super friendly and very clear communication.
Once we arrived we enjoyed the beauty and serenity of the location. The house was well maintained and the grounds and surrounding area was clean and neat. The ability to open up the garage door really helped expedite our unloading (and later reloading) of the cars.
While there, I broke a chair and when I let the owners know, it was a simple matter to resolve the issue and pay for my damages.
My only complaint about the entire experience was the painfully slow internet. I wish this was disclosed before we arrived so we could have planned for it. Instead it was an unpleasant surprise. If you're expecting to do anything more than check your e-mail (one at a time) then bring your own hotspot and ensure you have cellular coverage because the internet at the house will disappoint.
However, if you're looking for a place to disconnect then this is the right choice for you. ;-)
We look forward to booking the property again so we can enjoy the pool and outside deck area more and now that we're aware of the bandwidth limitations, we'll bring entertainment rather than rely on being able to stream anything.

A Happy 18th Birthday
We loved this property so much! We celebrated our son's 18th birthday here. The house has a great pool and there was lots of room -- a huge deck and shaded gazebo and lots of little nooks and crannies hidden about to retreat. The sound of the river and the gorgeous views were stunning. And the stars at night -- Wow! My son and his friends slept outside one night just to take it all in. They had a fox sighting!
The house and kitchen was plentifully stocked -- no need to bring any of your own cooking equipment at all. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable. The property has many, many stairs! It was good exercise for us, but something to know if you need single floor property.
ABOVE and BEYOND:
Our arrangement was a bit complicated and it required a lot of communication with JP and Rosa. They were incredibly helpful and got back to us right away with every question we asked. They went above and beyond to work with us to make our stay pleasant and fun for our son's birthday. Thank you so much!

Gorgeous view off pool deck.
I rented this home for the family of my new son-in-law during the weekend of the wedding. We checked out the home when we dropped off welcome bags. Home is definitely not handicapped accessible and had a bit of an odd smell, but was plenty spacious inside for several couples. The pool in the back of the house had a gorgeous view of the river down below. A bit pricey for a winter stay, but well worth the cost if you will have time to spend outside in the pool with the view!

Clean, spacious home with a pool and lovely view.
Four of us friends had a very enjoyable reunion here. We found the house comfortable and well stocked. It was nice that there were so many bedrooms. There is a balcony outside the kitchen with lovely views where we would have our breakfasts or dinner. We enjoyed hearing the river and watching the many birds. It was fun seeing the turkeys fly into trees at night to roost. There is a big outdoor area by the pool that is nice to sit around. The manager was particularly responsive and helpful as well as knew interesting places to visit. Hot during the days but nice and cool at night. We would definitely come back.
