About this house rental
GATHERING TOGETHER IN A SECURE HOME ENVIRONMENT AVOIDS THE CONSTANT SOCIAL INTERACTION OF HOTELS/MOTELS. OUR 3-PERSON CLEANING CREW SANITIZES EVERY SINGLE SURFACE TO CDC STANDARDS AFTER EVERY GUEST VISIT SO YOU CAN VACATION HAPPILY & TRANQUILLY. HAVING SECURE DOWNTIME IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER! Our Santa Cruz home offers casual elegance and warmth in a safe and an undeniably 5-star location! 1700 sf with 3 bedrooms & 2 baths, the house is just steps away from West Cliff Drive but without the congestion and traffic noise. It is less than 15 yards from the access stairs to the world-famous Steamer Lane surfing area and to Cowell's Beach (at low tide, at least) . Cowell’s has perfect waves for those learning how to surf (or just body surfing), yet with only a short paddle from the beach you are smack-dab in the midst of one of the world's premium surfing lanes, Steamer Lane. The house has every comfort of home combined with special touches that arise only when a Danish contractor builds a house for himself with sturdy 1942-era redwood & mahogany construction materials. Befitting its ocean location, Steamer Lane Manor enjoys nautical themes from around the world. The master bedroom, the Victorian Room, offers a queen bed with a majestic 8-foot headboard; the Dragon Room is paneled entirely in redwood with a hand-painted teak ceiling; and the Cromwell Room sports a unique queen-over-queen bunk bed. Every bed in the house, including the queen on the top level of the Cromwell Room bunk, provides the unparalleled, custom-made comfort of Sleep Number mattresses.
The backyard is equipped with bbq, patio furniture and a 6-person hot tub to soothe the wearied guest after a day of world-class surfing, hiking, biking, dining, wining (though whining is also exhausting) or perhaps 20 back-to-back rides on the oldest, all-wood roller coaster on the Pacific Coast (1924): The Boardwalk's famous "Giant Dipper" (In an non-Covid world, the Boardwalk is open through the summer and for most school holiday periods). The location of the Steamer Lane Manor house is among the best of the very best beach rentals on the favored Santa Cruz West Side, within an easy walk to the Wharf with its active commercial fishing scene (along with some exceptional restaurants) and the venerable Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk & Casino (in business since 1907). There are many options for entertainment and great restaurants within walking and driving distance, tempting beach cocktails and great shopping for all of your surf wear and souvenirs. Lighthouse Field and the Surf Museum also are within easy walking distance -- just a few short blocks -- as is the world-class Steamer Lane overlook, whose waves tempt renown surfers from around the world and is home to numerous surf contests.. Just short of Lighthouse Field is a wonderful espresso bar at the "Rise & Shrine' located alongside the Oblates of St. Joseph Shrine. For a more actively diverse social scene, it's only a short walk (approximately 1.5 miles) -- or quick bike cruise -- to downtown Santa Cruz, home of boutique shops, restaurants and sidewalk cafes, night life, famous live music venues and a provocative ambiance that reinforces the Santa Cruz City motto: "Keep Santa Cruz Weird" . Steamer Lane Manor is situated a mere 40-minute drive to Monterey and its famous Aquarium & Cannery Row, neighboring Carmel-by-the-Sea, and the exquisite Pebble Beach golf links -- with Big Sur slightly to the south, if the road hasn't collapsed, as is infrequently the case. South of Big Sur is the exquisite Nepenthe bar/restaurant/gift shop overlooking the Pacific. If you head North on Highway One, you will embark on a unforgettably scenic 90-minute drive to San Francisco. Along the way, stop for an espresso and muffin at Whalers Cafe in the primo whale-watching Portuguese mining town of Davenport, or the isolated but remarkable Highway 1 Brewery a bit farther to the north, the awesome and picturesque Pigeon Point Lighthouse, or the venerable Duarte's Restaurant in the Portuguese fishing village of Pescadero (great key lime pie, and, if you're so inclined, tripe). Cameron's Pub in Half Moon Bay has the best fish & chips on earth and is a favorite of musically-inclined Sir Paul and Sir Mick.
Our large living room is enhanced with an inviting fireplace stove amidst a mix of mahogany paneling, stained glass window, hardwood floors, luxurious seating and a 65" flatscreen. The Dragon Room features an exquisite, hand-painted teakwood coffered ceiling depicting nearly 100 marching gold dragons (nothing scary!!). The breakfast nook offers a pub table for 4, along with a 300-year old dining table for 6 from a pub in Ireland in the dining alcove. Every guest group receives a handmade, vegan and cruelty-free cosmeceutical skincare product as a gift from owners Rob & Maryann's own boutique lab -- a gift intended to make for some very, very happy hands!

We had a wonderful time in this comfortable and well-appointed home. Everything we needed was available and easy to find. We had a few high school friends over on one of the nights and they were also impressed with the house and all the interesting decor. The beds and sofa were very comfortable and cozy, and we had a good night's sleep every night. The hot tub was always warm and pleasant and we used it every morning and night!
We had more than enough kitchen equipment...a nice change from other places we've rented in the past!
All in all, I would certainly recommend "Steamer Lane Manor" to anyone interested in a happy, comfortable place to rent in a fun place in Santa Cruz. Being close to the Boardwalk was great for the kids and the wharf was fun for the grownups who enjoyed may pleasant walks.
We're so happy we picked this place, and thank you for the wonderful lotion and wine!
What a great week!

We get together with family every year in Santa Cruz. This was our first time to stay in this house. The house is in a great location, quiet, and cozy. The living room was large enough for all of us to gather. The sleep number beds were comfortable. The backyard and hot tub was lovely for hanging out and relaxing. The kitchen was well stocked with what we needed. Thank you for sharing your home with us.

We felt that we were in our home away from home! All the right amenities, perfect location for walking everywhere and garden cafe backyard setting visited frequently with hummingbirds which may all be enjoyed while soaking in the hot tub! We would definitely return to this property! Thank you Rob for sharing your home!

We loved the garden and hot tub in the back. The kids loved the bunkbeds and the close walk to the boardwalk and beach! You can hear the sea lions from the house. The response times were super fast from the host and they went above and beyond getting valuables found and a plan to return them. The home was comfortable, safe, and had everything you need for a relaxing getaway. Id definitely stay here again. Thank you so much!!

We just had a great week at this house. The location is incredible as we could walk to the wharf, bike from the house to all the incredible routes in and around Santa Cruz. Our family of 5 fit perfectly with the bunk bed and second bedroom. One of us had to work the whole week so the adorable desk in the alcove of the primary bedroom worked perfectly. The hot tub was great and there was even room for playing in the side yard. The kitchen had everything we needed. There was even a sweet gift of a delicious bottle of Bonny Doon wine and some hand lotion made by the owners. We’ll be back!

Great stay good location host is good hot tub cleaned regularly house is an old Santa Cruz house with that certain charm. Could use a few minor repairs ( back shower slow to drain, towel rack broken, back door hard to open) and a little less clutter, especially in the kitchen which was small to begin with and all the stuff made it hard to prepare meals, so we ordered out more than we had planned which added significant cost but helped out the local economy. But really we rented it for the location and it was perfect in that regard. Easy walks to a lot of great activities. We hardly drove at all.

The property was lovely. It was spacious and well equipped. The beds were really comfortable and the bedding was really good quality. There were plenty of towels including beach towels. We loved the garden and the bbq. The kitchen was small but perfectly formed with ample crockery, cutlery and glasses.
The location was superb, it was yards from the beach and about 10 mins walk to the board walk with its lovely restaurants and bars. In the other direction there was a path along the cliffs were there were beaches and views of the ocean.
Communication with Rob was timely. Check in was easy and there was a folder with useful info about the area and its amenities. Parking was good.
Rob went over and above as a host when he offered us the house free of charge for a night due to circumstances beyond our control. The gesture was appreciated but fortunately we did not need to take him up on his generous offer.
I would definately stay at this property again

Nice quiet neighborhood close to the pier. Some remodeling has been done and there are some signs of age but overall, it is well equipped and clean. Lots of character. Could use one more bathroom! Enjoyed the hot tub. We had a great time!

The house was just as photos indicated, and the location was great. We walked to the Boardwalk, the Pier and the Lighthouse, where we got coffee and amazing fish tacos at the local cafe. When we had down time, it was spent around the large dining table or the backyard. This was a perfect place to have a family gathering.

This was our second year at this beautiful house. We walked to the local coffee shop, stopped to watch the surfers and continued to walk to the wharf for awesome dinners. This house is the best.

The house was very clean and well stocked. The wine and lotion were nice welcome gifts. The sleep number beds were comfortable. We loved the large living area, plenty of space for everyone. The spa was relaxing and already heated! It was very easy to communicate with the owner and he always responded quickly. The location was great, only 15 minutes to the boardwalk. Quiet neighborhood.

We have stayed in other locations around Santa Cruz, but this one, just one house back from West Cliff, was perfect. Our adult kids rented surf boards and walked just a few steps across the road to the steps at Cowell's...never has surfing been so convenient. The restaurants near the wharf are just a 10-minute walk away. And the walking path along West Cliff was right there for daily walks and runs.
The back yard was also a big hit, especially the hot tub. We would definitely stay in this house again.

You can walk out front and onto West Cliff Dr. in less than a minute. The house is beautiful. There is a really large living room with a huge couch, so the entire family can gather around and hang out. Plenty of modernization throughout the house. Highly recommend! By the way, thank you to the hosts for the wonderful bottle of wine and the free skin lotion. My wife can't stop talking about it.

Highly recommended this property. It was a comfortable home near the beach and attractions of the boardwalk and pier.
We cooked mostly during our stay and the kitchen had everything we needed. The outdoor space was lovely and the home was nicely decorated.
We enjoyed walking the path along Cliff drive and watched the surfers daily.
The owner of the property was very responsive and great to work with.

We are two couples with three teenagers between us. The house is spacious and beautifully and painstakingly appointed with many conveniences. We made use of the grill twice and enjoyed puzzle assembly and conversation when the weather was too wet to enjoy. Our stay was at the end of December through the first couple days of January. I can only imagine how beautiful it will be during the summer.
Your host is very attentive and is able to answer all your questions.
We hope to return soon!

The location was great for our family coming together for parts of the holidays. We could easily walk and surf straight from the property. It has a great common space.
