Overview of Location
We would love to have you stay in our remodeled and redecorated condo at the beautiful 18 acre, Four-Star Kanaloa at Kona Resort. Our Kona home is one bedroom, 2 bathrooms and is on the ground floor (no long stairways) and is located on He’eia Bay and overlooks Keauhou Bay and the Pacific Ocean. The unit is huge (unlike an apartment). Almost 1200 square feet! We are walking distance (a half mile) to the Keauhou Bay boat harbor where daily tours depart for various water-based activities, including what we believe is the best snorkel site on the island-the Marine Preserve at Kealakekua Bay (near Captain Cook’s Monument). AND about one mile to the Keauhou Shopping center with its many restaurants and a multiplex cinema and cultural events. You can also leave for nightly snorkel or diving trips with the manta rays, right at the entrance to Keauhou Bay. World-class marlin fishing and sport fishing, kayaking, snorkeling expeditions, SNUBA, Hawaiian outrigger canoe tours, stand-up paddle boarding, surfing and ocean rafting adventures are also available in Keauhou Bay. You’ll find little reason to deal with the hustle and bustle and traffic of downtown to get on the water. For those activities you won’t even need a car. And if you're not a water enthusiast; there is The Kona Country Club, a Top 100 public golf course adjacent to the resort, tennis, pickleball, shopping, luaus and dining. Of course, there are those volcanoes, rain forests, waterfalls and other sights nearby to take in as well. Realtors refer to this as location, location, location.
Condo Amenities
Our one bedroom unit is 1185 sq. ft. and can sleep up to six people thanks to our spacious master bedroom and our new, queen-size Murphy bed and new queen-size sleeper-sofa. The two bathrooms have been recently remodeled and are beautiful. Various other renovations were completed in June of 2017 and again in 2023. The Master Bedroom has a regular door for privacy and also a shoji screen door for keeping track of the kids. Other family-oriented amenities include a Pack'n Play and a high-chair for the wee ones. There is plenty of space for your belongings. The condo is well stocked with swimming flotation noodles, boogie boards, beach towels and board games. Availability of water toys varies as guests break or lose them and don't report it to us.)
As a full-size, washer and dryer are in the unit, there’s no need to over-pack your suitcases. The kitchen features beautiful koa wood cabinetry and overlooks the living room and the lanai, so you can join in on the conversations and even have great water views while working in the kitchen. The kitchen is well stocked with the pots, pans, utensils and serving sets. When you’re not enjoying the outside, you can enjoy several indoor amenities like cable TV on our two flat-screen HDTVs, DVD/VHS player, Bluetooth-compatible iHome entertainment system. So bring your Bluetooth devices. Stream content via our high-speed internet connection or just kick back on the lanai. The lanai features killer views, a wet-bar and mini-fridge, maybe even read a book! Most meals are taken on the lanai but the kitchen also has a breakfast nook with seating for up to six.
Resort Safety /Amenities
Kanaloa at Kona is a gated resort, with a security checkpoint at the entrance and roving security patrols. The resort has three pools (one adult-only pool), two tennis courts and the Kona Country Club borders one side of the property. Right across the road from our condo sits the main pool and the office for the resort. An Activities Concierge works out of this building and can help you with booking one of the many outdoor activities or tours available on the Big Island (or you can booked them directly yourself, if you prefer). Remember, many of them depart from Keauhou Bay (1/2 mile away). Kanaloa at Kona has beautifully landscaped and well-maintained grounds. “Tropical” and “lush” are the words that come to mind. Lots of flowering trees and shrubs surround you throughout the grounds. There are also lots of BBQ grills scattered around the property, which are taken care of by the resort’s maintenance crews. You can join the other golfers on one of the Top 100 public golf courses- the Kona Country Club. The ocean-side pool is a wonderful place to relax and take in those beautiful Hawaiian sunsets. If you chose to never leave the Kanaloa grounds you would still be able to enjoy a beautiful, peaceful and relaxing environment.
Convenient Shopping
Our unit is less than a five minute drive (walking distance for those fit folks) to Keauhou Shopping Center where you will find a drug store, grocery store, ATM, multiplex cinema, book store, post office, clothing boutiques, several restaurants (including a good Pizza joint), a sports bar and a small shave ice store where you can experience a delicious, local Hawaiian treat. There is also a bus stop for the Trolley that will take you to the nearby beaches or to Historic Kailua Village along Ali'i Drive for more shopping and dining. This eliminates the cost and hassle of downtown parking
The Historic Kailua Village shopping district is usually a 10-15 minute drive (along the ocean) from our front door and features many fine restaurants, boutiques and even many of the stores you are familiar with on the mainland. You will find a long list of our favorite recommendations in the condo welcome book. One of our downtown favorites for lunch is the historic, waterside, Kona Inn Restaurant (established in 1928) which is located in the middle of the shopping district and right on the ocean.
Big Island Activities
There are many other amazing activities to explore on the Big Island: Volcano National Park, Mauna Kea summit observatory for world- renowned star gazing, the famous Kona Coffee plantations and coffee houses, lots of public beaches (great free snorkeling), including black lava, white sand and even a green sand beach, and the rain forests of Hilo with their multiple, breathtaking waterfalls.
Keauhou Area
Keauhou Bay area is blessed with sunny weather and perfect waters. These idyllic conditions made it a favorite hideaway of Hawaiian royalty, and today the area boasts diligently restored heiau (temples), ancient fishponds and a wealth of historical sites. Interpretive centers weave together the area’s present and past, making a stay in Keauhou as enriching as it is relaxing. Although, we will understand if you find it difficult to venture out after spending a few hours relaxing on our beautiful lanai with its breathtaking views of the He’eia and Keauhou Bays and the Pacific Ocean. At night, the Keauhou Bay area attracts manta rays that feed on microscopic plankton near the shore. You can spot these manta rays in the shallow waters off the Outrigger Resort & Spa at the mouth of Keauhou Bay, which shoots spotlights out into the plankton-filled waters nightly. But to really see manta rays up close and personal, go on a manta ray night dive or snorkel trip. You can also sometimes see honu (Hawaiian green sea turtles) in the shallow tide pools. It’s easy to see why Hawaiian royalty adored this area. The waters are clean and crystal clear.

The property was clean, well furnished, and in a wonderful location. We enjoyed a beautiful waterfront view every morning when we ate breakfast on the covered porch. The three resort pools made for refreshing relaxation after a day exploring. The condo community was very quiet and peaceful.

Great central location in Kona. Easy to walk to one of 3 pools, fantastic sunsets to watch from the ocean pool or cliff’s and close beaches to snorkel or enjoy nearby. Thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful view, great amenities and quiet complex.

Just right for planning your own adventures or just relaxing by the pool. Cozy and convenient to a great little shopping complex and the action of Kona is a short drive. Just around the corner from guided snorkeling tours, and a nice little beach. Complex is safe, ultra clean and well maintained. Condo has everything you might need. We had a deligtful stay.

I’m this is a comfortable and lovely condo. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle of tourists in Kona but close enough to shopping and dining when needed. Safe. Secure gated community. Perfect for 1 to 6 people. I will stay here again.

It is certainly a beautiful location. The overall grounds around the condos are beautifully kept. The condo itself is large and has all the amenities. Except---there were no coffee filters for the coffee machine. We were then told that they don't supply those (this makes no sense). Also no Kleenex (seems like this should be supplied). The water filter in the fridge needed to be changed which happened the next day. The safe in the closet was broken, and was never fixed while we were there. Other than that it was a great place to stay. The local person who looks after the condo is easy to contact and whatever problem, she is right on it. The A/C for us was good and went down to 70F which was perfect for the evening. Shopping and some dining options are just up the hill, and you are 15 minutes from Kailua-Kona for beaches, restaurants and stores.

This unit was clean, very fully equipped, and had a spectacular view from the deck. Our only concern is with the fees attached to this booking which basically doubled the daily cost. We will never book through VRBO again.

Great view and location. Condo was perfect for out get away.

This is a cute spacious condo with a very relaxing vibe. The community is pretty quite which is nice. There are 3 different pools with hot tubs to choose from. You will be a short 10 minute walk to a great snorkel/swim spot. There is also a couple tour companies located at that snorkel/swim spot you can book for excursions. The condo has carpet so the only downside is the moisture sticks in the carpet and you really have to air it out daily otherwise it can get a bit musty. I was fine opening the dorrs and lighting a candle.

Large oceanfront condo in excellent area. We had 2 small issues that the owner rectified immediately.

This spacious condo in a beautiful setting was equipped with all the necessities for a wonderful stay on the Big Island.

Lots of room inside - especially the master bedroom. The patio is nice to sit in morning and evening. The pool areas are nice. No walkable beach and about 15 min drive to Kona town, but right near big grocery store and pharmacy, and close to Kona coffee places. Only complaint we have is that the air conditioning was limited to 74 and we found it hot at night.

This is our 2nd time staying in the condo resort, and our first time in this unit. I would stay again for the view and location alone! The condo had everything we needed and was a great size for my husband and I. No complaints, as the owner was easy to contact. As mentioned in some of the other reviews, be aware that there is noticeable noise from the above unit when occupied (feet walking, furniture moving), and bugs like under the kitchen sink (we took out our garbage daily and used the bug spray provided to help). The air conditioning only goes down to 74, which can be a bit warm for some. The lanai is the best! We spent most of our condo time enjoying the view and lovely weather.

We were very happy with the property and its location. We were there to celebrate our 50th anniversary and had a great time.

Really liked this place, we stayed in 3 different places during our 8 nights in Hawaii and this was our starting point. The grounds are well kept, everyone friendly and the condo itself was all you needed. Spacious master, great kitchen and living areas and the lanai was so relaxing. Away from the crowds but minutes away from so much. Amazing having a grocery store 2 minutes away as well. Would totally stay here in the future.

We loved the location and the property! It was better than the pictures in our opinion. The master bed was comfortable as well. The linens in the murphy bed are a bit musty so would require washing before use if you need to use the bed- we did not need to use it. Overall great rental and we had great sunsets each night!

This townhouse has it all - fully stocked kitchen, washer/dryer, large master suite, 2nd bathroom, and best of all a lanai with amazing view of the waves crashing on the beach below.

Paul was very responsive to all our questions. Location is perfect close to the airport, shopping and activities. The condo is well stocked we took advantage of the cooler and ice packs when exploring.
Hope to stay here again.

Such a beautiful space. The condo was incredibly well stocked and had everything we needed to enjoy our vacation. The property as a whole was well kept and quiet, resulting in a great pre-race home base and vacation spot.

The views were amazing, the location was close to both the Security Gate and the parking stall. The unit had everything we could want, including pool/beach toys. We couldn't have asked for anything more. It definitely exceeded our expectations.

What a great space to enjoy with my spouse. The condo had everything we needed for a great stay. The kitchen was well appointed. We had lots of beach toys and pool toys. One of the best parts was the mango tree right outside the condo, who knew we’d be able to pick fresh fruit? It was amazing.

This unit was perfect ! Comfortable and and everything was very nice. It felt like a nice home, not like a rental at all. Keaeuhou is a very special area and this condo was a perfect place to stay. Thank you

I will plan future trips around the availability of this condo! Enjoying the incredible view with my morning coffee on the huge lanai was one of my favorite parts of the trip. The space was absolutely perfect for me and my teenage son. I took the murphy bed in the main area and my son took the main bedroom. We each had our own bathrooms! The place is so cozy, well-maintained, and well stocked. The grounds are beautiful, the ocean view pool is amazing, and access was so easy and secure. And the hosts are delightful and responsive. A wonderful experience throughout!

My husband and I had a lovely time in this property. The accommodations exceeded our expectations. The living space was very comfortable, though we spent most of our time on the lanai watching the active bay!
The host was extremely responsive to our requests
and even contacted us, mid-stay, to see how we were enjoying ourselves. Above and beyond.

Perfect location for walkability. Excellent amenities in resort and unit. Lanai is perfect for watching comings and goings from harbour.

The property was as described. The owners & property manager were very easy to work with and accommodating with the one issue that we had during checkin. The location was great. Very peaceful and central to restaurants & grocery. View was wonderful off the deck. Three pools to chose from including one ocean side. We would definitely stay here again. Mahalo

Really enjoyed our stay at this property - defined recommend!

Beautiful property in a great location. Short walk to shore access through pool for amazing sunset views. Enjoyed view from lanai of ocean waves and boats. Another shore access to walk to small beach. Nearby and easy access to groceries, gas, and restaurants, and up to highway or down Ali'i Drive. Condo has all essentials for kitchen and dining, pool, picnics, and trips to the beach. Murphy bed and main bedroom provided plenty of room and privacy for our family. Very quiet complex was welcome, did not hear neighbors at all at night. The welcome basket of treats was a wonderful addition! Thank you!

This condo was centrally located between coffee farms, snorkeling expeditions, local markets, beaches and the town of Kaihlua-Kona. The condo itself was quiet, clean, and had a wonderful view of the waves from the lanai. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!

This trip was a family reunion. It was great to have our own place to enjoy during our trip full of family. Paul's place allowed us privacy, beautiful vistas and a well equipped unit to meet our every need. Thank you for great communication and a great place to stay

Safe, quiet, a great view and a fabulous ocean front pool to use. Fully stocked for all your needs to enjoy the island.
10.0
Highly recommended. This is a beautiful property with a fantastic view from the lanai - we had breakfast every day and many dinners outdoors on the lanai. There are also nice views from the public areas of the condo complex. The location is great and made it easy for us to venture as far North as Hapuna Beach and also South to Volcano National Park. There was a temporary issue with the refrigerator which Paul is addressing. Also, the A/C could have been a bit stronger, but we did OK using A/C along with the numerous ceiling and other fans. All in all, a nice vacation spot that we would recommend to our friends.
6.0
This was a nice unit. It's spacious and the view was great. The location was good too--the resort was nice and well kept, and there were plenty of restaurants about 10-15 minute drive away. The ocean view pool was a particularly nice place to catch the sunset.
There are two things we felt important to share about this unit. First, the host requests that you keep the AC set at 76 degrees. For us, this is not a comfortable temperature, but I understand that electricity in Hawaii is very expensive so I understand why the host requests this. We just wish we had known that before we booked it. On top of that, we don't think the AC was strong enough to cool the unit down much below that temp anyway. There were tons of ceiling fans and several other fans provided, which helped the situation. But overall, we felt hot and uncomfortable most of the time we were there.
The other issue we felt important to share was that the beds are very firm, especially the king bed in the bedroom. My husband had an especially difficult time sleeping the first night and was sore in the morning. We ended up buying a thick mattress topper at Costco and he slept on the murphy bed in the living room (which was cooler than the bedroom).
Some other minor things: the host informed us ahead of time that the fridge had broken and he was working hard to get a new one. He provided a large cooler and there was a mini fridge on the patio that we made due with. Not ideal, but it seemed he was doing all that he could to fix the situation--apparently not easy to get a new fridge in Hawaii. Also, the microwave was having some issues losing power during use.
This place has tons of glowing reviews, so these issues might just be particular to us. But, wanted to share in case anyone else might find it helpful. The host was responsive, but our main concerns (AC and firm beds) are not easily dealt with and again, may be specific to us. If you like to come home to a cool place after being out in the sun all day, maybe consider elsewhere.

I have never seen views so gorgeous while having my breakfast! This condo was well stocked, clean, gorgeous, had plenty of space and the pools were well used by our teenage children. We loved the security of a gated community and the ease of coming and going! I would definitely recommend this place over and over again.

Spacious private 1 bedroom condo in lovely gated community. Lanai has a gorgeous oceanview. The bed was very comfortable. We made use of the washer and dryer.

We loved the entire space and time! Furnishing and amenities were perfect. The owner was very immediate and effectively helpful when needed.
We would definitely stay here again 👍🏝

Condo was nice and the property was lovely - nice and quiet with beautiful grounds. Condo has absolutely everything you need. It was fully stocked as if someone lived there. We enjoyed our time there and would stay there again.
