About this house rental
This home was built in 1895 and is listed on the National Historic Register. Property is a half acre and the front porch overlooks 2/3 of it. We are on the north side of Tybee, away from the commercial area , crowds and traffic. For families this is far and away the most desirable part of the island. The beach is 120 yards from the front of the house and Jaycee Park is right behind the House. There is a house on the left and one on the right that are both 56 feet from our house - you will not be looking out the window at a wall of the house beside you. The park has walking trails, Pickleball Court, Frisbee Golf and a brand new Kidde Park. This is a great house for 2 family’s or a generational family reunion. This is where our best reviews and repeat renters come from. The home was originally occupied by the base doctor of Fort Screven. When the base was deactivated it was purchased by one of the previous mayors of Savannah, my parents purchased it from his estate in the 60’s. The beautifully remodeled full kitchen has granite countertops, high end appliances (including two dishwashers, an oversized refrigerator, a six burner smooth top stove, and a stereo system with an MP3/IPod hookup). There is seating for 16 people at the dining room table. The den/library houses a flat screened TV and a DVD player. A marvelous open porch graces three sides of this home with approximately 2000 square feet of outdoor living area and includes rocking chairs and two picnic tables. The first floor features one bedroom (originally the 'Stryker's Quarters'), which is located just off the kitchen. There is a queen size bed in this bedroom, a separate air conditioner, claw tub bath, and its own entrance. There is additional bathroom with a shower on the first floor. There are three bedrooms and three full baths on the second floor, which also has about 1000 square feet of open porches. Each of the bedrooms on the second floor is abundantly sized, has tall ceilings, and a working transom above the door. All bedrooms, as well as the kitchen, living room, and downstairs hallway, have ceiling fans. The third floor has two bedrooms and one bath: one bedroom has a double and queen beds, the other has a queen, a double, and a twin bed. This house was originally built as a 3 bedroom house with a servant quarter on the first floor. The two bedroom on the third floor were added later. The best “fit” for this house is couples on the 2nd floor and older children and young adults in the other bedrooms - the third floor is really not suitable for young children and the servants quarters is too remote . This grand home is for the exclusive use of its guests. The beach is 120 yards from the front door through a quiet (no traffic) neighborhood. Also there is no nearby public beach access parking making this one of the most least occupied sections of beach on the island. Lastly this was one of the houses considered for the movie “The Big Chill”. We have been told by guest that it has that “vibe “ to it. Parties and events such as weddings and graduation parties are not permitted.
The Fort Screven and North Beach area offers fascinating military history, beautiful dunes, long beaches, a nice park, and an eclectic community of homes that is fun to observe on foot or bike. The natural dunes, with sea oats and other dune plants and animals, along with a view of Tybee Roads and Daufuskie and Hilton Head islands, make for a beautiful natural setting worth visiting. Also attracting attention are the mammoth container cargo ships, some almost as long as a 75 story building, plowing the waters of Savannah harbor. The Fort Screven installation gave Tybee a military character for more than 50 years, when 30 percent of Tybee Island's population consisted of military personnel. Today, the former base is a National Historic District. Behind the Officers' Row houses is the former parade ground. Today it is Jaycee Park. Lieutenant Colonel George Catlett Marshall (who was responsible later in his career for the Marshall Plan for the economic reorganization of Europe after World War II) lived next door. During his tenure at Fort Screven, the City of Savannah gave the crape myrtles to the fort as thanks to Marshall and his community minded command. A small creek winds through the park, adding to its attractiveness, as do the Live Oaks, cedars, bayberries, and wax myrtles.

The property was a walk back in history for all of us. We all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. The property was very accommodating for everyone's needs. This was our first visit to Tybee.Tybee Island

The Tybee vacation home was very spacious and clean. We especially enjoyed outdoor dining and visiting on the huge wraparound porches. The park and playground was a very short walk and perfect for our two small grandchildren. The walk to the beach was also short and private and the owner provided a beach cart which was very nice. The bedrooms and bathrooms were great band lots of room to relax.

Magnificent house for our family gathering of cousins. Tremendous kitchen, dining room and deck. Easy access to the beach. Couldn't have been any for our reunion.

We decided to visit Tybee Island for our annual family trip (4 seniors, 4 adults, and 3 teenagers). This property was perfect for our group. Plenty of room so that people could have their own space but also a large dining room table and living rooms that we could hang out together. It is also decorated with interesting historical and local touches that I appreciated learning about. The two levels of wrap around porches were fantastic, and many of us sat outside during our down times. It was a short, easy walk to get to the beach from this house, and the beach was never crowded. The kitchen was well equipped for us to prepare most of our meals. The owners were very friendly and responsive and were quick to offer suggestions or answer any questions that we had. The house is located on the northern part of Tybee Island, which is quieter and less touristy/crowded than the southern part. It was also an easy drive to get into Savannah, so we spent several afternoons exploring parts of Savannah as well. One of my nephews said that this was one of his favorite houses all time that we have rented on our trips, and we have been doing these trips for at least 10 years.

We (my family of 4) live locally to Tybee and had family visiting from out of state. There were 12 of us total, so renting a large house was the best option. The short walk to the private beach (no crowds) was an added bonus!
This historic home was SO stunning. It’s updated where it needs to be, and has the remaining original late 1800’s charm throughout the whole home.
You can feel the warmth of the owners family as you navigate through the house, with the home being equipped with anything you could possibly need for a family of all ages. We had 6 kids, ages 4-14, with our group, and the rest adults. So it was necessary for us to cook meals a few nights during our stay. The kitchen was stocked with all things you would need to feed a large group. It was greatly appreciated, as we’ve been to other rentals and they barely have any pots/pans and utensils. Not the case here!
We highly recommend this home, and have it saved to potentially rent it again in the future!
Thank you to John and your family for being great hosts!

There were 12 in our family group and this house accommodated us well. We never felt crowded. The historic home was charming with beautiful architectural details. It’s located a short, easy walk from the beach and a thirty minute drive to Savannah. The host was very easy to reach and was super friendly.

Beautiful, historic and large home with plenty of room, a wraparound porch on two floors, and
conveniences for a large group. Near the beach, restaurants and walkways. We would stay again.

We’ve been renting weeks this wonderful home since 2006. So many wonderful, special family memories have been made here. The kitchen is spectacular, the dining room table is huge and WiFi is fast. The large wrap-around porches are the perfect place for conversation or to enjoy an afternoon thunderstorm. We’ll definitely be back!

Our family loves the beach, warm weather, small towns and great food. And our time on the island ticked them off one at a time. First, you step back in time with this great beach home managed by John and Patricia who grew up in this home. These folks are salt of the earth people. A really private beach area means you don’t climb over the neighbors. And for a small town population on the island you find a plethora of great places to eat without jaunting over to Savannah. If you want to step away from a hectic everyday life for a week or two this is the place to go.

The house was absolutely perfect for our family. We had 13 adults and 2 children with our family group. The history and southern charm of the house welcomes you to feel like you’re home away from home. Location is excellent with a short walk to the beach, which is one of the few sections of private beach still on Tybee. The park and playground across the street was also great for the kids. Our family had a wonderful stay and the communication with the owners was excellent. We look forward to our stay again next year.

This was an annual summer vacation for our two sons and their family - six adults and seven children. Excellent location.

We had a wonderful stay on Officers Row. The house is the best suited for large groups that I've ever stayed in- lots of space, every kitchen item you could need, plenty of everything, and lots of bathrooms. Nice touches like night lights and motion sensor ligths as well. It was the perfect spot for our multi-generation family with ages 4 to 82. John was a great host and very communicative and shared great stories of the house and island. HIghly recommend!

Spent a week with 3 generations of our family. The house was as advertised and up to the special occasion.Clean, spacious, and had everything. Its apparent John and Patricia put alot of time and effort into making sure their guests are comfortable. The neighborhood is safe and offers something for everyone.. The private beach was perfect for our large crew and enjoyed by all. The island was very enjoyable and had everything we needed. Most of all our hosts were the best Ive experienced anywhere. Cant say enough .From availability and communication to his cordial nature rhey were second to none. You wont be disappointed

The house was beautiful and well kept. It had plenty of space that our large family wasn’t on top of each other the whole weekend! Lots of living space and a great kitchen too! Couldn’t have asked for a better place to stay and we look forward to visiting again!

Great spot and excellent time
We had a wonderful time on Officer's Row... the house was fun and comfortable and beach access was super easy. My family has stayed in a bunch of places, but this house has character and a table that will seat everyone! My only hesitation with this review is that it may make the place even harder to book.

Historical Gem On Tybee.
This historic home on Tybee is beautiful. It could use a little TLC but not too much or it would take away from the feel and look of the historic home. When you walk through the home you see the beauty of the architecture of days gone by. I was able to imagine the decades of family gatherings that were held in this home.
The house is large which provided our family of 16 to have plenty of personal space and family space. The long dining table was so nice to eat & laugh around, the kitchen was so well stocked (we enjoyed trying out all the different serving dishes each night), the receiver for connecting your music in the kitchen and on the side porch was super awesome (as kitchens are best for dancing and singing, and we danced & sang every morning and night), the drink fridge is an added bonus that saved us so much money on ice, and the wrap around porch provide us a place to picnic and play games, & rocking chairs to soothe the soul as we watched it rain. The home was enjoyed by us all.
John and Patricia were both extremely kind, helpful, & responsive from the time we booked the house in 2021 till the day we checked out. Providing history of the home, giving us a tour of the house upon arrival, checking in during our stay and after our stay. Very lovely family and we thank them for sharing their family home with us. We hope to visit again one day!

Great long weekend with 17 guests!
We were in town for a wedding and this was a great place to stay with some culture and history! Great info from the owner on the house history. I printed it out and the family enjoyed reading it. Very well stocked kitchen and plenty of fridge room. Quick walk to the beach. I travel for a living and enjoy my nice modern hotels and amenities. This trip was a welcome break from the cookie cutter houses and we settled in like we’d lived there for years! So much space for everyone to have their quiet time and great areas where the whole family could get together!

Family fun
This was the perfect spot for our family gathering of 3 generations. If you are looking for a "perfect" pretentious place, this isn't the spot for you. However, if you are looking for historical charm and an amazing location in a family friendly spot that feels cozy and loved, book this house! The hosts are very responsive! Our weekend was just what we'd hoped...relaxing and fun with plenty of space!

Wonderful Weekend Getaway
I have nothing but great things to say about the house. We booked a week here with family, and it was the perfect size to allow everyone a little bit of space to roam. It’s a storied home with plenty of history, so if you’re looking for a cozy space to come together as a group, then this is it. The porch was beautiful, and the owner was beyond friendly and accommodating. (Thank you for such a memorable weekend, John!)

Beautiful home on Tybee Island
This home was perfect for our family of 13. The kitchen was the most stocked of any home we have rented. The beach is private and our family enjoyed that. Outside was very hot, but it’s August!

Could have been better
The beach was wonderful and all of us thoroughly enjoyed it. We especially appreciated the wagon for carrying things to the beach. We actually enjoyed the house in spite of some issues. The kitchen was wonderful for our group since we did a lot of cooking. We got carry out only once and did not go to a restaurant since we had three children who could not have the Covid vaccine. The kitchen was well stocked and things were easy to find. Our only problem in the kitchen was ice. A separate ice machine is really needed for a group our size. We enjoyed the porches every day. It would be nice to have more comfortable seating on the porches, especially on second floor. The drink cooler on the porch was much appreciated. The dining room was wonderful since we could seat everyone together for meals. The reading room and living room were used and enjoyed even though the air conditioning could not keep ahead of the heat, and the ceiling fan in the living room was not working. The second floor bedrooms were quite nice although a shower in the tub-only room would have been appreciated. Provided linens were quite good and appreciated. The washer and dryer were nice and certainly met our needs. Having to carry clothes down the steep, dark steps to the basement, however, was a definite negative. The Styker Quarters were adequate.
We had issues with the internet. It was not reliable and did not work on third floor and the porch. We struggled with the TV, getting the internet to work as well as continuing to work when we were watching a movie. As I said, the air conditioning could not keep up and the ceiling fan in the living room was really needed.
I cannot say anything positive about third floor. The fact that carpet ended at second floor should have told us that things on third floor were different. My husband and I stayed up there with four youngsters aged 7 to 13. The photos of this area are very misleading including information that some of the beds are queen when they are double. I hated that any of us had to stay in such a dismal place. Having to walk through a dark closet or a dusty dirty storage room to get to the bathroom is unexceptional. Taking a shower and standing in ankle deep water is unacceptable. The sink also did not drain well. We learned late in the week that two of the four smoke detectors on third floor were dismantled.
Our group tried to stay positive and enjoy ourselves, but we will not return to this house.

Large House, lots of room for large group and close to the beach
We had a great time during our vacation in this house at Tybee Island GA.
As advertised, this is a very short walk to a private beach entrance.
I would say the walk was about 2 minutes. Crossing dunes is 1/3 of the distance and you have that anywhere. Beach is very nice. About a mile down the beach, we saw dolphins swimming very close to shore 2 mornings.
House was easy 25-minute drive into Savannah. Was important to us as we did a few tours (city, ghost, and food).
House is historic which I thought was very cool. Large rooms, high ceilings on 2 floors. Plenty of room for 13 people to spread out and not be on top of each other all week. A lot of the original cabinets, trim ect. Two wrap-around porches which were really neat. Great for sitting out on in the evening.
The number of bathrooms as also great. 6 bathrooms with showers was great for 13 adults. These bathrooms had more recent updates.
Everything was neat but clearly outdated and worn (except bathrooms). Could use some new paint and new wall coverings. I will also say it was a great value. We had 13 people and all had beds, house was very near the beach and was at a reasonable price. I think it was an appropriate value for what we got.
All levels had great A/C. Everyone was comfortable, we had really hot weather and everyone was from the north.
Third story is where there are 5 of the beds in two different rooms. There is a full bath on the 3rd floor which is great. You go through a dark closet to get there which can be a little strange. My youngest child (Girl - 19) was not fond of staying on the 3rd floor. It is slightly rustic and could be intimidating to younger kids. Boys in mid 20’s stayed in other room on 3rd floor and were fine.
I was happy with our stay and would say the location, size, number of beds, number of baths, price out weighted the place being on the worn side.

Wonderful Again
Our family had a wonderful time. We stayed here last summer and will stay again next summer. The house is equipped with everything you need. The history of the house is very exciting. We loved the big dining room and were able to comfortably sit for dinner all together every night!, The southern charm in each room, wide hallways, and staircase is fascinating! The only negative is the house needs to be painted on the outside to perseve the “Officer’s Row” prestige.

Dream Southern Livin' Family Reunion
This is an amazing property for a large family reunion -- especially if you have little kids and teens. The house is large enough that the adults and take a break from the kids. The property is unique and is a history lover's paradise. The beach is a short walk and it's away from the crowds. The owner was there for the first day and warmly greeted us -- left some boiled peanuts for us. He actually reached out months in advance which is not typical of other VRBO owners. Highly recommended!

Family Graduation Stay
Our family including two sets of grandparents, stayed together at the property for my daughter’s graduation from high school. It accommodated our group easily, the kitchen has everything you need there is plenty of porch area, quick walk to the beach. The house feels like going back in time and is located in a quiet area on Tybee. There are a lot of stairs and only one bedroom on the ground floor, but as long as that’s not an issue, the house is great for groups. If new and modern are what you’re looking for, this will not be the property for you. Owners were very easy to communicate with.

Surprise Birthday Celebration
We made this house the center of the surprise birthday weekend for our sister and her friends. John was great to work with, communicated all details prior and even was flexible on timing. The house was perfect for 14 people, not too small and had many different seating/entertainment options for our 3 night stay! The beach access is a short walk and Savannah is close for a night or two activities. Would highly recommend this for your next gathering!

14 of us mom's (ages 43 to 53) did a long weekend girls trip and this was the perfect house! We are SO glad we stayed on the North end of the beach. The house fit us all comfortably, with plenty of space to get ready. The dining table and porch were exactly what we wanted to be able to have meals and hang out together! The kitchen was well equipped. John and Patricia were great in answering any questions. The beach was easy to get to and not crowded. There's public parking a few blocks up, that makes that portion of the beach busier, but we had a nice big area mostly to ourselves! The house is completely southern charm! We were surprised at how well the AC worked in such a big house. The drink fridge on the porch was nice to have. We had a really great stay!

Best part of our trip to Alabama and Georgia
We had an absolutely fabulous stay at this "stunning historic home" on Tybee Island. Looking at the photo online doesn't do justice to the beauty of the property. The house has a real chef-s kitchen, with every imaginable appliance for cooking, two sinks and two dishwashers so several cooks can be in the kitchen at the same time. There is even a prep table in the kitchen for getting food ready to cook, or as a space to pack a picnic lunch. The ceilings in the entire place are 14-15 feet tall, so the house feels so spacious--room for lots of adults, kids, toddlers and babies. We always had enough room to have different groups in different spaces enjoying different activities. Our toddlers had fun just going up and down the grand staircase! The bedrooms are very spacious on the second floor, and the attic bedrooms provided space for a family of six. Those rooms are smaller and a little tight, but the kids loved being up there. The house has a Stryker's Quarters with a separate entrance, bathroom and loft--perfect for someone needing space from the larger group. The grounds have incredible amenities: kids' playground, basketball court, tennis and pickle-bar court, and fun paths for riding bikes and walking. The beach is about a football field away with a beautiful walk through a cul-de-sac and over a bridge that leads directly to the beach. The beach was groomed and clean and private. We wanted a authentic experience in this beautiful part of the South, and we got it. Almost no tourists on the beach, and no surrounding high-rise condos that feel commercial. We loved every minute at Tybee; there are so many things to do and we couldn't get to all of them! The best part of staying at this beautiful home have to be the owners. John, the contact and reservation person was available at anytime, and even ordered a portable pickleball net for us so we could play pickleball. Patricia, another owner, was staying next door at another home they own, and was gracious, helpful and fun to talk to; she gave us additional historical information about their house. We couldn't believe the difference between VRBO properties rented out by a management company verses those that are actually cared for and managed by the owners of the house. The owners of the Tybee Island house have history there. We had the best VRBO experience with John and Patricia. The house was one of the favorite parts of our trip. Greetings to John and Patricia!

Perfect bachelorette party paradise!

Amazing
The house was just what we were looking for. It had everything we needed to enjoy our stay and enough room for us all to be comfortable. The beach was perfect and just a short walk away. The wagon provided was an added bonus! Mrs. Allgood was very responsive and so helpful. We would all definitely stay here again.
