About this cottage rental
PLEASE NOTE: The minimum stay is 6 nights (Sunday noon to Saturday 6 pm). We will open our summer calendar for booking in late January/early February of the same year.
This unique cottage is in a very scenic area, still largely off the beaten path. "Two Jetties" Cottage is perched on a granite ledge a stone’s throw from Pigeon Hill Bay. It has superb views of the ocean, the shifting tides (tides run 10-14 feet), colorful sunsets across the bay, wildlife such as great blue herons and eagles, the spruce-clad coastline and islands, and lobster boats at work. The two jetties, made of massive granite blocks, are the remnants of a dock.
The cottage is “off the grid” - not attached to electric power lines. Solar panels on the roof provide electricity to operate the water pump, run
electric lights, and charge your cell phone and other electronic devices. The refrigerator, wall lamps, hot water heater, and the magnificent vintage range run on propane gas. The living room includes a large collection of books, as well as some puzzles and games, for those foggy Maine days. The kitchen is equipped with every sort of non-electric gadget you are likely to need, plus an electric coffee grinder.
In addition to the queen bed in the master bedroom, there is an inflatable queen bed for the second bedroom, which also has four bunk beds. The twin bed on the sun porch allows you to sleep with the stars while still comfortably indoors! Finally, we have a tent platform in the woods by the shore.
The shoreline is rugged pink granite, not sand. There is a beach on the other side of Tom Leighton Point, not far away, that has a natural seawall and sometimes a sand beach, though there are some years when the currents carry most of the sand away from the shore. The water is cold, but the bold do swim in it! There are several lakes in the area that provide excellent swimming. Depending on the season, berry-lovers can find blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, lingon berries, and finally cranberries in the fall. Clams cannot be dug without a license.
Milbridge, which is about five miles away, is more of a working town than a tourist town. It has a supermarket, library with computers and also WiFi that you access from outside the library at any time, post office, pharmacy, laundromat, art gallery, several restaurants (not fancy!), and an excellent gift shop.
There are many wonderful options for day trips in the area, with Acadia National Park at the top of the list. It has hundreds of miles of hiking trails and carriage paths, a rugged dramatic coastline and “mountains,” and even a few sand beaches, and of course the tourist town of Bar Harbor. The town of Ellsworth, on the way to Acadia, offers plenty of options for shopping and restaurants. Route 3 between Ellsworth and the national park has a number of amusements. We have a notebook in the cottage with descriptions and maps for finding good hikes and other activities.
Our cottage and the rugged terrain around it may not be ideal for toddlers. Dogs are welcome at our cottage but be aware that there are hazards in the woods for dogs--especially small ones--including owls, fishers, and porcupines.
You can still find a number of small towns along the coast where the harbor is full of lobster boats. There are some good restaurants, too, though you have to track them down. Campobello Island, where you can visit Franklin Delano Roosevelt’s summer “cottage,” lies just over the border in Canada (bring your passport).
Please note that we rent by the week only, and our rental week is six nights and seven days. Arrive on Sunday at noon or later, and leave on Saturday in late afternoon.
We do not have WiFi. We do not have a grill or fire pit, but we do have a vintage gas range with an excellent built-in grill, and we have a couple of small table-top grills.
If you stay for two or more weeks, you will need to wash towels and other used linens at the laundromat partway through your stay. The Town of Milbridge collects garbage on Tuesdays; you will need to bring your trash, and any trash generated by the guests the week before, to a nearby collection point on Tuesday morning.
We take reservations for the coming summer in January/February.

This place was amazing! It is essentially your classic summertime Maine Oceanfront Maine Cabin experience. The historic features of the property were very interesting and a great experience to share with my 8 year old grandson. The propane lights and stove were fun. We booked a lobster tour and went to see the tidal pool and Schoodic point. We had lobster on the deck cooked by the local lobster pound, Chipman’s Wharf. This area is not a tourist trap but a working harbor town. Ellsworth was nice to explore, about an hour away. Bar Harbor is a similar distance.
It is recommended to arrive before dark. Due to the distance we drove, we could not and it would have been better to get acquainted with the property in daylight.
Sitting on the deck was our favorite part!

We loved our stay at Two Jetties. This "off the grid" cottage was just what the doctor ordered.... literally! Quiet, peaceful and beautiful! Lunches at Chipman's Wharf and hiking the Bold Coast....... It will be hard transitioning back to city life.

The cabin is a real page out of a seaside novel, is perfect, I would not change one thing. Will definitely try to visit there again

The idea of propane cooking stove, electric solar power and wood stove as well as remote location drew us to this property. We wanted a place to unplug and recharge. Having limited cell service and no tv added to the charm of “getting away” . We would highly recommend this property. The views were amazing and the sounds of the ocean were mesmerizing

Rare Experience
Two Jetties Cottage is a very magical place. Although it is rustic and remote- we were still extremely comfortable and had everything that we needed. Host and caretaker were completely responsive to our needs. The whole family especially loved the experience of unplugging, lighting the gas lamps and playing the wonderful records on the Victrola. And we could sit for hours and watch the lobster boats chugging by as they gathered up the days catch. At sunset we saw harbor seals feeding and at dawn we saw a few bald eagles swooping above. As a Chef, I was particularly impressed with the wonderful well-seasoned cast iron cookware. It was a treat to make our meals with them as well as on the vintage gas stove.

The perfect spot
We stayed at Two Jetties for a week in mid-June. This was the perfect location - private and secluded with great hikes just a short distance away.
The cottage is not terribly fancy, but it has been set up with care and we had everything we needed. It is evident that this is a place that has been well-loved throughout the years, and it is enchanting. It is comfortable and the views are outstanding. Combine this with the well-equipped kitchen, the wonderfully stocked bookshelves, and the sea air... well, you don't ever really want to leave.
We felt so lucky to be able to experience Two Jetties. We hope to return during future summers!

Magnificent
One could write a 20,000-word article and barely scratch the surface. Peace, quiet, serenity, nature and automatic decompression from the world. Step out onto the deck with the lights off on a starry night and be amazed. A great launch point for countless Downeast Maine adventures. Two Jetties Cottage is rustic off-the-grid and a perfect fit for us in our 3rd visit.

Wonderful
Staying at this well loved charming family cottage was the highlight of our vacation. Lara does an excellent job welcoming you to this unique and beautiful property, everything you need is there.
A few of the things we enjoyed ...Bright Maine mornings, watching the boats go to work, and seeing the rise and fall of the tides, peaceful quietness, local activities and family game nights. We truly loved our time there and wish to return. Thank you so much for having my family!

Probably not for everyone, but perfect for us...
If you like beauty, seclusion, and going back in time, this place is for you . The owners are great to communicate with and the super market in town has pretty much everything you need. Unwind and enjoy the beautiful views.

Amazing paradise
When we chose this place for our honeymoon, we knew it was going to be great because it was our idea place that we were looking for when we saw the pictures. When we actually got here to see it in person it was way past our expectations, because we had no idea how absolutely gorgeous that it was going to be!!

Just what we needed!
Great place! Off the beaten path, but close enough to a small town if needed. Everything worked great! We loved the fact that there was no TV. Tons of books everywhere in the house. I really enjoyed "The Lobster Gangs of Maine." The location is peaceful and secluded. Getting out on the water in our kayaks everyday allowed us to really enjoy the nature and wildlife of this area. We loved every minute of our time at this house!

Wife and I are seniors. I am often not easily impressed. This cottage and its location made us regret that we had to leave. We especially enjoyed the isolation, the serenity and the marvelous ever-changing panoramic views of the bay and tides right at our feet. The cottage reveals the personal tastes of its owners, which makes it interesting.. The cozy sunroom is delightful.

Our Annual Stay @ Two Jetties
This summer marked 6 consecutive years of spending 1-2 weeks in the summer at Two Jetties Cottage. Location could not be more idyllic and secluded, the place is always throughly cleaned upon arrival, the hosts are impeccably communicative and happy to share their wealth of knowledge about the area with guests. Could not be better, and hope to be back again next summer!

After the teens got over the fact that there would be no wifi available and that charging electronic devices would be kept to a minimum, everyone (dog included) fell in love with the cottage. The view, the coziness of the cottage, the general ambiance of northeast Maine, the rugged coastlines and the lovely hiking trails within an easy drive made this trip one of our more memorable vacation rental experiences. Lara was a wonderful host, providing detailed instructions and helpful guides both via e-mail and at the cottage. Two Jetties Cottage is definitely worth coming back to visit again someday. Thank you for sharing your home, Lara!

Back to basics!
The week at the house was a trip back to when we were younge and things worked more simply. The kids were wonderfuly curious and loved the Victrola and the gas lights. The view and rocks were very very nice and the lobster boats and sunset- amazing. But the fun really started once the rain stopped and we found the other beach and were able to explore the beach, rocks, etc. The impulse to turn on a TV was there every night, but it's absence was overcome with games, good books, and music! It was rejuvenating and proof that we can make it without 21st century crutches.

Relaxing in Downeast
We loved this cozy cottage. We had a great view, access to lots of hikes, scenic views, and historic sites. Although, most things we did had a short drive we easily explored the Downeast coast. Pigeon Hill Preserve and the Petit Manan Wildlife Sanctuary wer the closest, but we did Schoodic Island, Acadia on two days, Roques Bluff, Jasper Beach, and Fort O'Brien. We saw gorgeous sunsets and morning coffee on the peaceful deck. Clean, well maintained, loved how welcome the owners made us feel with a few short emails, the details in their notebooks on the cottage and the area. We hope to go back! One child wants to move there and he loves his video games!

Perfection
We had such a refreshing stay! The sunsets and stargazing from the cabin were absolutely gorgeous. We loved the comfortable house. We cooked most of our meals at the cabin, and found the kitchen was stocked and supplied. The gas range was lovely to cook on. The location allowed us to spend most days hiking at Acadia. The house was great for my 4 and 6-year-olds, who spent loads of time playing on the porch. Over all, perfect vacation!

Reset yourself and prepare to be unplugged.
This was a wonderful stay. Simply put the view and the cozy cottage combined to make the most peaceful stay we've ever had away from home. Granted, you can not use a hair dryer so that was a little problematic for my wife but a small trade off for what you get back in relaxation. If lighting stoves and lamps from a propane source makes you nervous, you will get over it quickly. Just follow the instructions and you will be fine. LOVED THIS COTTAGE. We hope to return soon.

A Great Getaway
This was a great get awsy spot. The cabin is all that they say it is no hidden suprises. Loved the wood stove, the views, plenty of hot water. it was fun to go off the grid and relax. One of the best vacations i have taken.

Porch Duty!
The inviting porch in the picture turned out to be just as awesome as it appears, with a long view out to sea! And when the wind was a bit much, the inner porch with a couple of rocking chairs and windows all around was an excellent backup!
Our stay proved smooth sailing all the way from communicating with owner, excellent instructions on the cottage workings, and guides to area interests. We found it to be a very comfortable cottage in a lovely setting!

Beautiful cottage on the ocean!
We spent a wonderful week at Two Jetties. The cottage was cozy, very clean and comfortable. Everything we needed was there and easy to find. We live off grid in NH, so adjusting to the camps solar system was easy for us, but I think it'd be easy for anyone.
The peninsula the cottage is on is beautiful, with spruce and moss forest. Walking trails provide easy access to a stone/sand beach on the other side.
We'd definietly stay again! Thank you Lara.

Wonderful Ocean Stay
Great location, well stocked cottage with responsive hosts. This is a quiet get away from it all spot with just enough amenities for us. No TV, WiFi and limited cell reception help you to unplug and de-stress. We spent the week kayaking,.reading and enjoying the ocean from the deck.

The most delightful place we stayed at was this Solar cabin looking over the bay.
We began our Maine, Nova Scotia vacation almost 3 weeks ago with staying at this wonderful well equipped cabin. It was a gem of simplicity, beauty and location. It was the one cabin and location I would choose to return to if the future.
Lara is wonderful to share her own vacation cabin with others and leave it so well organized and packed with information about near by sights to visit.

Beautiful and unique retreat
Two Jetties Cottage is a very beautiful, unique, and serene property. We stayed in late June. The owners were responsive and helpful in all ways before our stay. The cottage is rustic and magical--and the views and location worth a million bucks. The electric power generated by the solar panels was plenty for the two of us, and it was fun to learn to work with the older stove, propane lights, and other relics in the house. The view of the bay and the trees from the porch kept me enthralled for hours. There are things to explore in the area not too far away, surprisingly for the remote location, and the cottage notebooks with ideas were helpful and thoughtful. A really wonderful place.

Amazing
This place is beautiful. We stayed a week and wish it could of been longer. We will definitely stay here again if we make it back to Maine. At first we were worried about the solar panels and it not supplying enough for 5 of us to shower and everything but we never had an issue. My kids even liked staying off the grid.

The cabin was delightful, simple, unpretentious. We enjoyed the remoteness and disconnectedness. Milbridge was perfectly situated allowing us to do everything we wanted to do. We did not want to leave.
