Staying at Keiko-san's Guesthouse was an enjoyable and amazing experience. So appreciate the lovely dinner and extra things Keiko-san does. We had to check in early due to heavy rain and was kindly accepted. Not only that, we were served hot tea, which was so welcomed after walking in the rain. And, when we finished our walk, we were given a lift back to Motomiya so we could make it for dinner. Unlimited hot water was well appreciated, too.
The guesthouse is only about 10 mins walk to Magome, so locationwise it was peefect. The house itself is the most beautiful, comfortable, and clean place we have stayed in since we started our trip 2 weeks ago.

Beautiful location, amazing food (both dinner and breakfast) and amazing host. I would recommend this guest house to anyone traveling in the area.

It was fabulous! Set in an old, traditional Japanese house but with modern furnishings inside, Motomiya is the kind of place that you will never want to leave. It is about a 7 mins walk from bus stop in Magome in very calm and quiet surroundings. At night we heard the sound of frogs croaking which was magical. The room was spacious with an amazing view of the mountains and rice fields. Futon beds were raised off the floor and very comfortable. The dinner and breakfast were both exceptional. Keiko san, the landlady, was the perfect host, giving her guests local specialities to taste. It was all very delicious.
There are only 3 rooms available which means it is nearly always booked up so I would advise early booking. Definitely worth the wait! Whether you are a tourist or resident, this place is a must to experience the true “omotenashi” of rural Japan.
Nothing at all!

Our host Keiko met our bus in the village and drove us to the guest house. Breakfast and dinner were excellent, beautifully prepared and presented. The guest house was very quiet & comfortable, Keiko super welcoming and generous. She handed us a bear bell when we set off for our walk on the Nakesendo trail to Tsumago-juku and had prepared a hot soaker bath with citrus for our return. Delightful!

Convenient location right on the Nakasendo Way, 7 mins walk from Magome-juku in a quiet peaceful village. The host is very friendly and speaks good English. A very authentic, homely stay with a beautifully presented and tasty dinner, worthy of a fine dining restaurant! With only 3 guest rooms, the shared bathroom facilities are no problem. The traditional futon beds on tatami mats are super comfortable (mattresses are thicker than most places we’ve stayed) and the fluffy warm duvets make for a great night’s sleep! One night stay is not enough.
Nothing.

The shared bathroom was absolutely NO ISSUE!
The rooms were so cool, our eating area was lovely.. traditional .
Keiko uses veges out of her garden..that was lovely as we tried some we had never had before.
Keiko speaks English really well and there were absolutely no problems at all.. A FABULOUS EXCITING EXPERIENCE..Thank you

Keiko was so accommodating ... people eating different meals..that was no issue at all
We changed eating times and departing times ... no issue at all

Authentic old but modernized Japanese inn, great meals, wonderful host
Was as advertised, so just to alert Europeans; bathrooms are shared and you sleep on a futon, which can take som getting used to.

Everything. Food was the best we'd had of the 5 ryokans we'd been to. Freshest ingredients right out of the garden. Keiko-san was the most amazing host! Rooms were spotless and comfortable. They even took us to the bus station by car in the morning. Bathrooms were individual yet shared, which was nice. You could even do laundry for a small fee. Can't wait to come back!
Nothing.

The house is charming and welcoming.
The path to the house is beautiful (there’s even a shrine on the way), some rice fields and gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains.
The room was of a good size, super clean and the futon super comfy (I slept like a baby ! ).
And the food… the food was delicious ! everything was fresh (as fresh as our host picked the radish from
her garden 1h before our meal) and greatly prepared, the tempura were amazing!!!
We spent some time discussing with the other host and were lucky to have someone from the USA that talked Japanese and could translate a few things 🥰
the breakfast was as fresh as the evening meal, with some salad, that the host picked up from her garden too, egg, fresh orange juice, home made jam with delicious toast. Keiko’s son own the coffee house on the Magome trail and make a special blend for her, a coffee like nowhere else !
Definitely one of the highlight of our trip in Japan !
どうもありがとうございます Keiko-san

The food was excellent, and the hospitality was great. Very comfortable futons!
I would have liked it to have traditional Ryokan style bathing facilities. It felt a bit like a hostel compared to other Ryokans I have stayed in. Also quite a far walk from the main town and bus stop.

My stay at the guesthouse was very memorable. It is the best accommodation I have stayed at in Japan. I would highly recommend.
Nothing! Thank you for a delightful stay.

Such a special, lovely house. Beautiful food, so fresh -
picked from the garden. Best meal we had in Japan. Lovely warm hosts. An absolute highlight of our trip.

There were two places we stayed that really made our trip memorable and Guest House Motomiya was one of them. It was convenient to get to (bus stop was right out the front door) and very quiet, but there was a morning rooster which we found more entertaining than annoying :). The hosts were exceptional and the food was unforgettable. We loved Magome and it was just what we were looking for - it wasn't crowded probably because Japan had just opened up for tourism. We would definitely stay again and our only disappointment was that we didn't stay longer.

This was probably our favourite overnight stay of our entire trip. The hosts were lovely, the food was fantastic, the room and beds were incredibly comfortable. If we could have we would have happily stayed longer. We have no doubt that we intend to go back in the future.

The food was absolutely amazing, both dinner and breakfast. They even prepared something for both kids. The owner was so warm and friendly. She entertained my daughter, who really loved her! They filled up the bath for us, which was perfect and exactly what we needed after our hike.
Honestly the only think I can come up with, was the light in the hallway that had a sensor, that lightened up the room when going to the toilet, but that's it.

We had a very pleasant stay at Guest house Motomiya. The owners were very friendly and helpful and their house is lovely, in the charming countryside on the old Nakasendo. The room was very nice and the beds confortable. And last but not least, the diner was delicious, made of several dishes each of them tastier than the other. Everything was perfect and we highly recommend Motomiya guesthouse !

I originally was going to stay for 2 nights but had to have an extra night added due to heavy rains in the area which stopped all of the public transport (I couldn't get to Nagoya). The owner let me stay an extra night for free and drove me to the nearest station that was working(about an hour and half away). I'm tremendously grateful towards them!
Their meals were also very tasty and healthy!!! Highly recommend this place, great service!

I arrived before checkin time and just intended to leave my luggage but Keiko-san allowed to me to checkin early. Keiko-san also prepared delicious meals, and on top of that she even offered a glass of soju as a free, welcome present! It was indeed a feast!!! Thank you Keiko-san for making my stay at Magome so homey, comfortable and memorable!
None. The place is fab! Quite a walk from the highway BUT the views along the way are fantastic!!!
