Really nice property. However a really poor experience at the end of our stay spoiled it. Do better ‘The Retreat’.
Checked out of property at 11am on time and told them our flight left at 3pm (so we would leave for airport at 1pm) and that we would need access to facilities so we could shower/change before we left. Instead we were denied access and told we would have to pay £400 to continue using facilities for literally 2 more hours. So after spending £2,000 in less than 24 hours (hotel, spa treatment for GF, dinner at their top restaurant) we get this news. Have never in my life been told we no longer have access to any facilities immediately after we check out at 11am - let alone a hotel that charges this much. They kick paying hotel guests to curb to make way for day guests. There were four other couples sitting around lobby twiddling fingers until flight left for two hours because they were all kicked to curb too. The young brunette guy at counter was extremely unhelpful, very robotic and unsympathetic. BE AWARE! You get access to your room at 3pm and then are kicked out next day at 11am unless you want to pay £400 for even 30 minutes more to use their facilities to shower or change. Disgraceful.

The restaurants are all good 😊
The room was very comfortable with a great view
Yoga is advertised but it was not possible to book in advance. The assignment room was far too small to cater for the supply and demand and we were disappointed to be turned away even though we were 15 -20 mins early.

Great location. Very friendly staff at the reception.
Moss restaurant is unfortunately closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. The SPA restaurant and the Lava restaurant are not up to the standard. Lava is promoted as gourmet dining but that's way off! Most of the restaurant staff is not very attentive and most of them not even friendly. SPA restaurant and Retreat pool fills up with people staying in the Sicilia Hotel who just walk in - as a high rate paying guest of the Retreat you wonder why you have to go through a waiting list to get a table while Sicilia guests dine......

Unbelievable scenery, cosy feel and very professional. Breakfast was great with many options both healthy and not so much ✅. A fantastic place to spend a couple of days relaxing and a good base for adventuring.
There was nothing I could improve about this hotel. Yes, the price is steep, but you definitely get what you pay for!

Very hip hotel at The Blue Lagoon with its own private lagoon and spa. Very relaxing, excellent helpful staff- thank you Thor. Wonderful room looking out onto the lava fields-amazing scenery. Lovely breakfast and dinner at Lava restaurant . The lagoon and spa were amazing.
The beds were a bit soft for us but still very comfortable. It's a very expensive place

The Spa is out of this world. The beds are so comfy, the showers are fantastic and the minibar is free!!
You can’t take photos in the Blue Lagoon.

This was our favorite hotel ever, period. Their private Blue Lagoon pools were so beautiful. We were in and out of them all day. The restaurants were all delicious. Moss was super delicious - every course - and also a really fun experience. Not pretentious. And for lunch I recommend the the teriyaki beef carpaccio in the spa restaurant. So good! (And even more fun to have in your bathrobe between swims!)
Literally, nothing not to like. Oh, wait, they have a beautiful gym with fancy touchscreen treadmills and such, but there are no fans on the equipment, and I was very hot jogging, so I'd suggest keeping that gym about 10 degrees colder. (Fehrenheit. No one wants frost bite!)

Loved the architecture, the lighting in the rooms, the BEST shower, access to the private parts of the Blue Lagoon (especially nice at night), comfortable beds, wonderful service, good breakfast, excellent dinner at Moss, super relaxing water massage, great facial. Loved the robes, slippers, and wool poncho (that was gifted to me by my friend!) Just a very wonderful experience.
It was the most expensive resort I have ever stayed at.

The location and facility are exceptional. Stylish, attention to detail, spectacular views, great ritual experience. Staff is polite. Food is also very good.
In a total of 4 different trips to this hotel, we have never managed to book one massage treatment at the spa. Reservations at the Moss restaurant are also very difficult. So advance bookings are highly recommended.
Service (check in, restaurants) can also be quite slow.

Fantastic luxury hotel. Great spa facilities with a northern lights wake up call (and we saw them!). Lovely breakfast and afternoon tea. A real treat and highlight of our time in Iceland.
Seemed unable to deal with requests at 8pm. We asked for a late check out and they said come back in the morning. I tried to organise a cake for my partners birthday and again “come back in the morning”. Also, it was very expensive but we knew that coming so wasn’t a surprise.

We had previously stayed in Hella experiencing what Iceland has to offer and it was amazing. As it was a belated honeymoon we thought we'd stay a couple days at the retreat to experience what it had to offer. Unfortunately the only thing we liked was the staff, room & cleanliness. The hotel was decorated well and looked nice. The private spa lagoon was a nice intimate touch for relaxing away from the blue lagoon crowd. The breakfast was nice and was hosted in the main lobby. You also get an additional Afternoon tea experience.
The staff were great except for an issue with our pre booked treatments. I booked on the phone 2 days prior for a massage, yet when I got there the Spa staff had booked it for an in-water treatment. The main hotel staff said they would resolve this. I went & spoke to the spa the day after and they said the booking is in-water and it cannot be changed & then tried to convince me to stick to it. This made us very upset and cause a disagreement. I then went to the hotel staff who said it had been updated on their system and they are reading whats happened. However, the spa staff still said no its not and then I had to walk with the Hotel staff to the Spa area to explain and it was already agreed higher up with management. I found the whole issue unprofessional considering the price this hotel charges per night & for treatments also.
The Room was modern but lacked character. It had all the modComs and layout was good but there was not much character. The blue lagoon is highly underwhelming, given its man made & running due to the plant next door which can be seen. Unfortunately the room has a mini pool outside but was not allowed to be touched due to it just being decorative.
The restaurants and on-site food really lacked good vegetarian, vegan or fish options. We only had a choice of around 2 meals to eat from. It was also difficult to source lunch given the lack of options.
We had previously stayed 5nights in another hotel in the middle of nowhere in Hella and we had 5+ options of food.
Unfortunately this hotel for us personally lacked value for money. 2 nights stay cost the same as 5+nights for the rest of our trip and we would not come back to this hotel. If you do not need specific food requirements & like sitting in a lagoon all day then its for you, but for anything else it is not value for money in my personal opinion.
I would recommend the hotel expand their food options, to caterer equally for vegetarian, vegan, Fish eaters.
