The Boat House is one of 4 cottages available to rent on this large waterfront property.
Cozy studio with a small kitchen, full bath, and deck right on the ocean
This one-room studio used to be a storage structure for rowboats and other sailing equipment. We're not kidding when we say this cottage is RIGHT on the water! It was built back in the 1950's before modern zoning laws required homes to be built farther back from the shoreline.
The kitchen is creatively functional. Single burner unit, electric fry pan, large toaster oven, mini microwave, large dorm-style fridge, and deck side BBQ make this a great space for easy-peasy cooks. Coffee & tea kettle included.
Other cottages on this property include:
Barnacle (sleeps 4), Rabbit Hole (sleeps 4-5), & Popover (2-4)

We rent Saturday to Saturday, only!
We would love to secure your vacation time on MDI here at Barnacle Landing. The VRBO connections have been wonderful and everyone has expressed their wonder and amazement at our best-kept secret, the cottages on the bay. Renters are still saying this place 'exceeds expectations'. What else can we say? Come see for yourselves.
This family-run property offers quiet respite steps from Acadia National Park. The cottages are kid-friendly and have great decks for sunsets, b-b-qs, and playing. (Sorry, no pets) The surrounding woods are nature's masterpiece quintessential Maine. There is lots more we offer, email me for details of Barnacle Landing, on the WESTSIDE of MDI off Tremont Road.
The property is 1500 feet of shoreline and the cove proves to be a great place to explore Maine marine life and geology. Nearby, Pretty Marsh is chock full of places to explore in our kayaks and rowboats. The harbor is home to seals, porpoises, great blue heron, osprey, and frequent eagles. Fishing and crabbing are always a great way to spend your time.
If you like to swim in the ocean, there are ladders at the dock and a gravel beach to wander in and out of the waves. Of course, there are warmer ponds and lakes very nearby, too.
The 40 acres surrounding the cottages are full of woodsy pathways and mossy areas for exploring. There are mussels to collect at low tide and you can steam your own lobsters on the deck of your house. And, SUNSET is an amazing feature here on the west side of Mount Desert Island.

Perfect serene cove-front boathouse for two
All aspects of this rental are amazing. Private property with a couple other larger cottages, shared dock, kayaks, and row boat. Mornings are silent except for nature, cove is like glass, just breathtaking. Perfect for couple getaway, or for in-laws along with adjacent rentals. Would definitely rent again. Great experience!

Greater than great
It's exactly what we were hoping for when planning our honeymoon. A week of quiet, time in nature, and slow/adventurous days. The boathouse was more than what we hoped for. We arrived after dark, so we woke to a stunning view over the water. After a day of exploring the island, we were welcomed home with a pink sky. The sunsets are bonkers here! A bald eagle swooped by a couple times too! Sheila and Dave are top notch. We city folks locked ourselves out twice and they happily helped, knowing that locking the door wasn't necessary. They are kind, the place is beautiful, and access to Acadia was easy. The kitchen area is small, but we grilled each night and had the perfect amount of space for storing food for the week. (If you're seeing the sunrise on Cadillac, I suggest leaving the cabin 1.5-2 hrs before sunrise to get a good spot if you like to get places early; 1-1.5 hrs if you like to show up right as things are happening.) Enjoy! We will be back.

Minimalist cottage steps from the ocean
Communication between Sheila and I was terrible. I had to message her 12 hours before our planned leaving time to get the address and other information. She then informed me she sent me multiple emails, from her personal email, informing us we needed to either be vaccinated or have a new covid test before coming. Since she decided to contact me with her personal email instead of Vrbo those went directly to my spam. With such short notice and her never deciding to further try to contact me through this site or my phone number, we settled on us being able to stay but to not have any use of the kayaks or dock. We made it work by bringing our own kayaks down but it was a bummer especially since the posting made it seem like the dock would be for our personal use and not a shared part of the property. Upon arriving we went down a single lane driveway to arrive at the cottage that was surrounded by three other cabins that aren't pictured at all in the listing. There was no separate parking for our cottage, it was simply a narrow stone loop driveway that was shared with the two other cabins, making it difficult to drive around. There were dirty dishes in the cupboards and the grill left on the deck was dirty and didn't work. However, David was great and was sure to help us with that issue immediately, by supplying a new grill the next day. The location itself was very convenient. It was directly on the ocean and we were able to go down and see crabs, starfish and heard seals at night. It was 25 minutes from all major attractions and was definitely on the quiestside of the island, which we enjoyed. However, it was not the secluded cottage we were hoping for and that the listing made it seem.

Waterfront rental on Quietside of Acadia
Small, but comfortable rental for 2 on the water on the "Quietside" of Acadia. If you like nature and being away from the crowds on Ocean Drive, and Bar Harbor with charming Southwest Harbor only 20 min. away, check this place out for next season.

What a gorgeous property! We were so relaxed during our visit. It was everything we hoped it would be and convenient to the other activities on the island.

A perfect couple's retreat.
The Boat House is a great place to get away. Nestled on a lovely cove on the quiet side of the Mount Desert Island, the sunsets here are spectacular.

The Boat House & Acadia
Absolutely beautiful & peaceful trip to Acadia National Park. Our stay at the Boathouse on the quiet side of Mt. Desert Island was extremely comfortable and highly relaxing. A sanctuary to come back to after a days adventure hiking, biking, kayaking & paddle boarding. David & Sheila are wonderful hosts and people....a very special place...

Outstanding geraway
What a great place to stay! The peacefulness of this cottage is second to none. The view of the water rivals any on the island, and access to all of the islands features is nearby. We loved our stay and absolutely would return.
