Lovely place breakfast great but food at night not hot enough
4.3
very comfortable bed, lovely friendly staff, food was good and I loved the decor and location near to the A1. Loved the selection of tea and coffee in the room and a lovely walk for the dog.
The room was full of cobwebs, I had to remove at least 8 spiders. My partner has a real phobia. paint work was in dire need of repaint. No sound proofing in the rooms and the main building needed a wee bit of love and care to get it back to its former glory. Times are hard for Hotels at the moment I understand that but these little things matter.

It was value for money and met our expectations

The staff were very friendly.
We had booked a double room we were given a twin room to start with this was changed to a double but the room smelt very strongly of what I can only think was damp. The smell in room 17 was horrendous we only stayed for the one night which was lucky as the smell was so pungent it turned both mine and my partners stomachs.

Staff were great.
Room was moldy and rotting. Bed was small. Shower was black and very high with small doors. Room was dark and pokey.

Our room was comfortable, the location was one we chose so that was fine too. The staff were friendly - especially the gentleman who checked us in and then also served us while at dinner. His recommendations on food and drink were welcome and very good.
I would say that dinner was a great and breakfast was okay. Maybe a little let down there for them. Note - we had porridge and toast, so I am not sure what the cooked breakfast was like. There were great choices for breakfast on the menu, though. Our room was right next to the sign out front, so maybe a blind in that window would help the light coming in at night time.

The room was nicely furnished and comfortable, we slept really well.
Staff were all very friendly and helpful.
The breakfast room and bar areas were all spotlessly clean and really nicely decorated and furnished.
Good coffee and wine menu
The food wasn't great.
Breakfast - Poached egg was not cooked properly; scrambled egg rubbery and really not edible; croissant very dry and hard in the middle.
Dinner - French fries were only lukewarm; burger was pretty tasteless; lasagne ok but not hot

The noise of deliveries and emptying of bottle bins late at night and early in the morning

Breakfast was lovely and the staff very friendly. They went out of their way to help us. Room decoration reminded us of national trust properties. It was really tasteful. Great shower.
The room was smaller than we expected but maybe we should have paid more attention before booking
