The location was was perfect with regard to visiting Grasmere, Windermere, Ambleside and Keswick, and the view over Grasmere village stunning. As the inn was located just off the road down to the village it was peaceful and quiet. Because of the age and design of the inn it was full of nooks and crannies which made finding your room interesting but it added to the enjoyment of our stay. There was a large private beer garden and plenty of parking and Grasmere village was only a five minute walk away.
The Inn decor was stunning; there is an original chair used by Wordsworth in the lounge and it was fascinating to think he walked from his house 5-10 minutes away to drink at the inn.
Every member of staff we spoke to was friendly and helpful. The room we had was spotless and had a good size bed which was extremely comfy. The breakfasts were excellent and the staff could not have been more engaging. We ate in the first night and the food was excellent. There was a good choice on the menu and the food was hot and tasty.
it was a joy to stay at this inn.
Dogs! We understand and appreciate the inn is pet friendly but it was a bit of a nuisance when some of the dogs barked at each other. However, it wasn't so bad it would put us off staying there again.

Location, spacious room, nice staff
Half of the menu for dinner was not available, same for cocktails and breakfast.

I struggle to think of anything that went well. The lady at checkout who had lived on the Canary Islands was nice.
When we arrived I had to wander around the whole pub to find someone who was able to check us in. Parking was horrendous and the staff did not care when I told them. Everyone seemed to be absolutely flabbergasted that the place, located in a tourist hotspot, was busy on a Sunday during the Summer holidays. Staff were rude and clearly new, having no idea about the menu or service in general. Fish & chips took over an hour to arrive with the chef clearly having thought "I don't care how this looks, just get it out of my sight", with neither of us being able to order what we actually wanted as they had sold out. There were a couple of signature gin & tonics cocktails on the menu for marked-up price, but this was literally just some ice, gin and Fever Tree - not even a bit of garnish. The beds were extremely uncomfortable and this coupled with the old, creaky building made sleep near impossible. The wifi was so weak it barely connected. We were only given a 1hr45m window for breakfast and we had to decide the night before what time we were coming. Finally, the card machines didn't work at either arrival or check-out, which was particularly frustrating as we couldn't wait to get out of there. All-in-all, possibly the most disappointing stay I've ever experienced.

Had a lovely stay at The Swan in our favourite area of the lakes, Grasmere! The staff were all welcoming and helpful, room was large, comfortable bed, nice bathroom. Breakfast was nice, cooked breakfast options were tasty and staff accommodated a slight change to hash browns instead of muffins for my eggs royal - nothing was a problem. I also liked how you could fill up your own tea pot with whatever tea / coffee you liked. Nice little selection of help your self stuff such as cereal/toast/pastries/granola/yoghurt/juice. Dog friendly hotel so was lovely to see lots of little cute furry faces on a morning - met a particularly smiley staffie! The Swan is so accessible for going straight out for wonderful walks around Grasmere and beyond, no need to drive anywhere, you just pack up your bag and go out the door and up the mountains.
We really enjoyed our stay, I'm sure we will be back in the future :)

We made a last-minute decision to stay in the Lakes for two nights and found The Swan had rooms available. The Swan did not disappoint us. The room was lovely with a fantastic view of the fells and hotel garden, plus the sheep. The bed was comfortable, and we slept well. The shower room was compact but it had everything we needed, modern, clean and tidy...I love the Sea Kelp soaps and lotions!
The staff were friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. We had breakfast and evening meals on both nights. Service is quick, the meals were lovely...with plenty to eat.
The location is ideal for fell walking, straight out the back of the hotel, also it's a short walk in to Grasmere. The open-top buses run frequently just outside the hotel too.
We would definitely return.
Nothing to dislike.

Staff very friendly and knowledgeable
Room was great, very clean, comfy bed, big TV. Room wise couldnt possibly want for more
Evening meal wasnt great.
Breakfast - nice choice on display. Cooked breakfast OK, one small sausage and one beacon rasher a bit stingy. Toaster was set so high the toast came through cremated

Great location and beautiful rooms, a great stay.
The stay overall was brilliant, rooms and communal areas lovely and staff friendly. However they were lacking enough staff with the same staff doing check in and serving food guests. Service for dinner was slow, they were also out of two wines on the wine list so settled for a third choice.

Newly refurbished with quality fittings in 2023. Lovely views from beer garden and from.some rooms. Handy for access to the town and to bus services. Multiple cosy nooks rather than open plan layout. Helpful staff. Fine decor. Comfortable rooms, good sleep.
Fair menu but not enough traditional pub fare such as Cumberland sausage or meat pies and gravy. Good car parks but often full. No coat hooks in room.

Stunning hotel, dogs are welcome, the owners and staff were brilliant. Food was great, fantastic views from all the windows. We will definitely be booking again in the future.
There wasn't anything I didn't like, if I had to be picky, it would be the size of the lamb burger, but I'm a greedy sod and had just done a big hike so I was very hungry. The cheese board afterwards more than made up for it though. On a serious note we couldn't fault a thing. Stunning place.
