LOCATION AND THE VIBE

We loved the uniqueness of this hotel, as well as the great location. The staff was amazing - Allan went out of his way to be of service.

The location on Thesen island is beautiful with great views of the Harbour and headlands. Walking distance to great activities and restaurants in Knysna. Love the decor and boutique style of the reinvented dry dock house.
Shower water pressure was a little light

Fabulous views over lagoon. Airy and modern nicely decorated with two of the best eateries in town on site. Staff all very friendly and helpful. Nice extra touches for guests with complimentary food and drink available.

The Boutique style and feel of the hotel
The bars closed very early (4pm and 8pm). The food portions were very small. The sunset deck was much smaller than anticipated and the sunset party was only on once a fortnight! Not good considering the average length of stay is 3 nights

Stunning location
Outstanding management (Allen) and staff....all very hospitable
Room so amazing
VIP treatment
Can not fault it in any way, what so ever

Amazing customer service. Everyone was so helpful, very well trained! Fantastic food. Beautiful views. Would definitely love to visit again
There was nothing we didn't like. The food was fabulous but maybe a new 'special' dish now and again would be good as we ended up eating there quite a lot! Couldn't fault it though, hats off to the chefs.

This place is really lovely. It's clear a lot of thought has gone into the design of the place - making the most of the original building. The views over the water are great, the rooms are a good size and everyone working there is a joy to interact with (or at least everyone we met or spoke to).
The restaurant is actually really good. We were recommended a place nearby by a number of people, but the food there really wasn't great, so we decided to try the hotel our second night. We wished we'd eaten there both nights!
They have oyster and bubbles on a Sunday night -- which I really do recommend. Also if you can get a table overlooking the sea for sunset this is amazing. You technically can't book those, but if you ask nicely an hour or so before they might be able to hold one for you. Worst case just go a little earlier than the rush and nab one. Totally worth it!
The bakery in the building is actually legendary in the area I'm told (by friends), people come from all over to eat here. As such it does get busy. We managed to get a space for breakfast one morning and it was superb! Not just by local standards, so I can see why people get so excited about it.
The hotel has kayaks you can use, and if you time the tide right it's great to actually swim in the lagoon. Not warm, but the water feels clean enough. There is a private area for guests only overlooking the water.
The hotel does have a pool, however it is very small - maybe 2m x 2m. There are no sun loungers beside it, and probably only enough space for about 4/5 people on the chairs. That said, since it was quiet we happily read our books on the chairs and dipped our feet in the pool. There is a private deck area for guests that is also quite small - with a couple of sun loungers - and some seats. Anyone looking at a lounge by the pool experience this hotel isn't it -- but there are lots of other things to do though!
It's quite hard to find anything that's not positive about this place. Overall, it's probably a place you stay a couple of days rather than a week (more due to the location) -- we were happy with our stay.

Very stylish and at a super beautiful location. On top the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful.

Good breakfast with a choice of 3 venues. We were a little disappointed that having booked B & B we were to be limited to a 300 rand spend.
A big no no for us was a shower over a bath. Dangerous getting in and out.
We are frequent returners to Knysna and know the hotel well. It’s location, it’s style makes it a good place to stay.

The location of the hotel was perfect - right on the water front but still very quiet. We were greeted by Allan who gave us a personal tour of the premises, welcome drink, gave us lots of suggestions and recommendations- nothing was too much bother for him. Our room exceeded expectations and the decor and facilities were excellent. Having its own generator on site meant there was no power outage during load shedding. We particularly liked the voucher system for breakfast which meant having the option of eating at Ile de Pains (which was amazing quality) or at the hotel’s own restaurant The Nest. We ate an evening meal at The Nest seated right on the deck overlooking the lagoon and the meal was delicious.
No faults.

Beautifully presented hotel. Great location. Room spotlessly clean. Staff helpful.
Even better if the room had more drawer storage and the hair dryer/ mirror setup was more practical. Wardrobe does not easily accommodate long garments.
4.5
Beautiful room with a beautiful view, nice restaurant and bar to accompany the hotel. Staff extremely friendly and helpful
The description of our room said there was a bath but there was none (must be taken away after renovations, rooms were brand new)

We were greeted by Allan at the front desk and as we were early our room wasn’t ready. However Allan then gave us a small tour of the surrounding area on Thesen Island, pointing out the restaurants and bars, boat tours we might want to do. It was service above and beyond what one would normally expect.
Our room was wonderful with brilliant views over the water. The hotel is a little gem and all the staff were so friendly. We’d highly recommend it to anyone thinking of staying there..

We absolutely loved The Lofts and would urge anyone to stay on Thesen Island if visiting Knysna. The hotel has a cool vibe, right on the water you can jump in anytime for a dip. The pool is a plunge pool and you can't 'lie out' but there is seating and a gorgeous deck area for drinks & food. The food in The Nest and Il de Paine was fabulous, we had fantastic breakfasts and a dinner there, great service and quality. Special mention to Allan the host, he was exceptionally helpful and he showed us some of the great local bars/restaurants on the 'island' and he made us feel very welcome.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The accommodation was clean and tastefully decorated. The Nest restaurant where breakfast was included was superb!!! The hotel is also very central, so you are close to everything whilst still feeling like you are in a relaxed resort setting.
We had some issues with the aircon in our room, but they were quick to arrange someone to sort it out.

Exceptional apartment, exceptional food. The staff were extremely helpful and attentive.
