Check in was easy and the location was good. The bedding and towels were clean. The view of the river was nice and the hotel is in a good location.
For £145 a night, I would have at least expected working lamps in the room, a remote for the television and a bathroom fan that wasn’t so loud that I couldn’t relax.

Good breakfast buffet
Décor in reception was a little dark - not really important though.

I love this kind of hotel - grand old building in a large town, with a story to tell. The creaky old place is full of large bedrooms, comfy beds and tartan carpets. There is parking (if you're quick) there is a very nice bar, the reception staff were welcoming and the water in the showers was nice and hot......and there was a BATH, I love a nice bath in a hotel. Breakfast was decent and for us it was included in the (very good value) price.
The dining area overlooks the river which is nice, but feels a little like it was furnished from an Argos catalogue so could do with a bit of an overhaul to make it feel more intimate and comfy. The pictures of the bathrooms on the website must be the latest updated rooms as they were nothing like the quite dated bathroom I had with my room and on the subject of bathrooms the extractor fan in mine made a loud grating noise so I took my bath in the dark (my friend had a similarly knackered extractor fan in her room).
Finally I'd recommend not eating here if you can find alternative eating arrangements in town, dinner felt like it was made by the local catering college as part of their final year project - it was trying and failing to be "clever" and was about 15% more expensive than it needed to be.

Lovely hotel looking onto the river, lovely room, very clean. Good breakfast
Lack of parking spaces.

The kindness of the staff, the charming building and strategic position

Nice location, close to shops & a good walk around a park in short walking distance from the hotel
Room was dusty the radiator in the bathroom hadn’t seen a duster in months, bed very uncomfortable could feel every single spring in the bed and a huge hump in the middle Breakfast rather cold and disappointing

All went well, no complaints. Fine location so near to the city centre.
I have no suggestions for improvement.

Good
Tea sometimes cold

Lovely bright and well decorated bedroom, with equally smart bathroom.
Didn't mind the change now to a buffet breakfast, but would have preferred a pot of tea, rather than1 individual cup each time! Similarly, a rack of toast rather than waiting "your turn" to add bread to the toaster and to wait accordingly...and more at times.
Also a slightly noisy extractor fan in the bathroom.

The breakfast was really decent for such a good value last minute booking.

The room was clean and comfortable , and it was good food for evening high tea / dinner.
Staff helpful and friendly.
The kettle was dirty with white mould inside and had to ask for a clean one , bedsheet was marked and ripped, and the bathroom door could not be closed due to broken catch , TV had a very limited choice of channels.

Quirky Scots hotel and really well placed. Good atmosphere.
Only two points.
1 No Lift
2. Water cold so could not have bath or shower on arrival and before breakfast the following day. Had to wait on the Sunday till we got home for shower/bath.
The lift issue is a physical constraint and there is no quick fix. providing hot water is on the other hand something that should always available to guests 24/7.

The staff were amazing and couldn't do enough to help.
Offered a choice of rooms if water problem not solved.
The division in bed was too large so had to sleep on top of duvet.
We requested dinner on 1st Jan but was not advised we would be charged £40 per head for a set New Years Day 3 course meal. We wanted steak from the standard dinner menu.

Old fashioned in a good way. Very clean, good breakfast and central location
An overlay mattress would make the bed less firm, and we do not like coffee machines in breakfast room table service pots are far better.

Breakfast was good, location is in a good place close to shops etc.
We booked the mini suite and it was lovely and very spacious.
Mini suite could do with a mini fridge in it as there's plenty room for one.

Great location, friendly and efficient staff
Room was a bit dated. Couldn’t see the Tv from the bed.
